Anders: Oh, you're calling me a person now, that's high praise comming from you.

Velanna: I still just see Anders, who else is here?

Anders: Well, you of course remember Justice, and his little problem.

Velanna: (pinches the bridge of her nose) You became Justice's host? Of all of the things he could pick to inhabit he had to pick the village idiot?

Fenris: (chuckles)

Velanna: Avert your eyes fool, this is a matter between Anders and myself.

Varric: (whispering to Hawke) Maker, she's like Tevinter if he was a mage.

Hawke: And a woman.

Varric: I'm not so sure, anyone who's willing to tell an abomination that he's the village idiot has to have some pretty big stones if you catch my drift.

Gosh, I truely miss Velanna now.

Lol. Great stuff! I actually liked velanna call me weird but I did. Her and fenris together would be really bad or hilariously good. Like a volcano and a hurricane lmao.

Also, I would happily read hard in hightown. I only wish we had excerpts.

Man I wanna do a prompt but so hard to post from my phone and formatting gremlins on this site are evil!

This thread is on a roll tonight. :D

And only Doc can make Vellana seem appealing. Good lord I hated her in Awakenings. She stood in the throne room most of the time and I tossed her gifts at her, but that's about it.

Velanna and Fenris are actually a lot alike, both of them have a large amount of anger (Fenris towards the Magisters, Velanna towards humans) as a part of their personalities. The real difference between the two is how they deal with that anger. Fenris prefers to contain his hatred with a stoic exterior (although he can go ballistic when pushed).

Velanna on the other hand prefers to lash out and take her anger out on whoever is nearby, people tend to act adversely to being yelled at repeatedly. Because of how the Approval/Disapproval system in Awakening works its quite possible that some players miss out on some of the dialog that helps to show the kinder side of her personality. With Friendship/Rivaly we get to see the entirety of Fenris' story.

Of course we could see her again:

Hawke: I can't stand Velanna, she just stands there and disapproves of everything I do.

The Warden: Believe me, I know what that's like.

or:

Varric: Maker's breath, it's broodfest over here.

Velanna & Fenris: (at the same time) I do not brood!

Varric: Are you sure?

Velanna: You will be silent dwarf or so help me...

Varric: You'll rend me limb from limb? Cassie over there threatens to do that to me at least twice a day.

Cassandra: (muttering) I hate all of you.

Good thread. <3

I'm with you on Velanna. She's the only companion NPC I didn't like in the entire series, heh. She spent a LOT of time at the keep, standing in place. :P

Very true. I think she would have benefitted from the new Friendship/Rivalry system. Her lashing out/"I am Dalish hear me RAWR" attitude just grated on me. However her banters with Nathaniel were good, I admit.

Why you hate on Velanna? D: She's, like...all awesome and...and stuff.
Yeah. Ya caught me. I hate her too. xP Annoying wench...

You know what's absolutely heartbreaking? Rejecting Fenris. My poor fangirl heart, it just...D: I feel like a horrible person. No more science for me...

GAH I'm suddenly inspired by The Script's Breakeven to write a short of Hawke going to Anders after Fen dumps her...I also oddly want to write something about Anders thinking Fenris is abusing poor Mage!Hawke...only to discover they just play rough. The Templar and the Naughty Apprentice FTW. >D
(And NOW I want to draw Anders in Assassin's Creed's Ezio's outift. What is wrong with me?!)

You've been lurking to much on the Anders thread DD lol. Sometimes I go to Anders after ten, but just the kissy scene. Then my hawke realizes where her heart truly lies when Anders goes on about fenris being a beast. She can't be silent at that and just goes off at Anders. You know if it were reverse I don't think fenris would sit there in the bedroom before sexy times talking about how Anders is a horrible beast of an abomination. My hawke just rushes to defend him, and it is a total moodkiller.

I do that too. Well, with two Hawkes I did. One broke up with Anders immediatly...the other slept with him then broke up with him. I can hear his snark now "Sorry, Anders, but Fenris is better."
Plus,
Anders: You're breaking up with me?!
Hawke/Me: Figure that out all by yourself, did you?
Anders: I won't forget this!
Hawke/Me: Funny thing, I'm striving to do the opposite.
Yeah, me and my Hawkes are such nice people. xD

-sigh- Well I'll write those up. Maybe I'll post them on deviantArt. Don't mind me; just my muse's b!tch.

That's why I can't really like Anders as a romance. Fenris doesn't **** about Anders before sexytimes. Fenris only really mentions Anders if Anders lives with the player after sleeping with Fenris, but his threats to Anders are more or less empty.

Lol I never said take a break. Anders is great in his own way. Fenris is better to me though. Doesn't mean that you can't do both :P. A lot of ppl do.

So don't feel guilty.. well except for dumping fenris.. that's just wrong :P.

I want to do more fanfic but im not really sure where to start and if anyone would even give a flying nug if I did, lol.

I guess I'm one of the minority that liked Velanna, but I've only played through with a Dalish so you get some bonding going on right away (My irritable Dalish Warden had an "I don't really sound like that do I?" moment with Velanna). But then I seem to have a soft spot for characetrs who are cute when they're angry/snappy... Oh hi Fenris Rivalmance

^ Oh god, I do love pictures where Fenris is wearing a shirt too big for him. Because he's skinny, it rather suits him.... especially when it shows off more of the markings.

I love how he has a bit of a sneer. The look is great, and the shirt thing I agree. It seems to be common in a lot of pictures. I assume people just think that is probably what his underarmor shirt looks like *shrug* I like it either way :P.
also....

ARISHOK (sorry it got kind of long, LOL. I started it before work and finished after, meh.. it is what it is)

(Hawke decides to pay Fenris a visit at his mansion after way to many drinks a few days after defeating the Arishok...)

Hawke: Okay! (she bursts into the back room uninvited and doesn't care) Now that this whole mess with the Arishok is over I have to know one thing, Fenris.

Fenris: (already standing and at the ready, having heard Hawke's less than quiet entrance) Hello, Hawke. I don't believe you knocked before you rampaged into my house. What is this about?

Hawke: What possessed you to bring up that duel idea?! I'm a mage, a mage! I wear robes, and cloth and I don't "DO" melee combat. The Arishok is this huge guy with a giant axe. (she drunkenly makes grand gesticulations to emphasize her point) You know, now that I look back we should have just killed them all. What were you thinking... what in maker's name was I thinking accepting the damn duel! Andraste's buttcheeks, Fenris.. why didn't you stop me?

Fenris: It was an honorable way to resolve the situation, Hawke. It seemed the best idea at the time to get the Qunari to leave. Besides, I never doubted your abilities. I knew you would win.

Hawke: Oh, really... even when I was running around like an idiot casting ice spells desperately and failing? Casting slow spells and the guy keeps rushing me over and over. I spent more time flat on my back than.. well... Isabela!

Fenris: well...

Hawke: Thought I was doing just great on my own, did you!? OH, yeah that's Hawke.. just like in Varric's stories. Running around screaming like a little girl while the Arishok is running me down with his giant axe. And did you SEE the biceps on the guy? I thought for a second I was done for.

Fenris: I don't recall the screaming like a child, though there was a lot of cursing and running around in circles.

Hawke: And you didn't think I could have used some back-up? Thought never crossed your mind that my squishy innards could have been splattered across the room? No, just let Hawke handle it.

Fenris: It was a duel Hawke, and you accepted. I couldn't interfere. Besides, I respect your skill enough to know you would win. You did not need any help. Why are you pestering me about this anyway? The Arishok was the one who named you Basalit-an.

Hawke: Pestering? Pestering! Oh, yeah Hawke is Basalit-an.. now suddenly she can battle a Qunari ten times her size with a HUGE AXE! Seriously, did you see me when I was dangling on the point of the thing? I suppose you all just thought "No, no.. don't worry guys.. SHE GOT THIS!"... pfff... I almost died, and you would have all watched.

Fenris: Hawke, enough. You won. Call it whatever you want, but you won the duel. The Arishok is dead. The Qunari are gone, and your champion of Kirkwall. Why are you going on about this?

Hawke: I just... when I was fighting the Arishok it was different. You were all watching me, depending on me, and all I have is my staff, my flimsy robes, and my magic. I didn't think I could win there for a minute. I don't know why you thought I could.

Fenris: Of all the mages I've ever seen or known Hawke. Only you have been proclaimed Basalit-an. Only you would be strong enough to win in a duel with an Arishok. You are strong, Hawke. That's why I said it.

Hawke: Sometimes people just have to much faith in me I think. Honestly, the only reason I accepted the damn duel is so I could wipe that look off his face myself. Them leaving was just a bonus. Alright, so it may not have been a pretty duel, but I did win. I guess I can't complain.

Fenris: Alright, so this tirade is over now? Oh, and Hawke, in the future if you are drinking at the Hanged Man and feel like coming over to rant at me about something, do me a favor, and knock first. I have an escape window for just such occasions.

If you post 'em, I'd be interested in reading them.

Dumped!Anders and Nonromanced!Anders are secret shames of mine, and you don't see them too often because well... people who write Anders generally can't bear to do that to him.

Dumping him at the door when he mentions Fenris is nicely dramatic. He gives you a last chance to back out and you simply take him up on it. He thinks Hawke's already seen him at his worst, and he shows that side of himself, and Hawke rethinks everything. He's upset, but I get the feeling that he's more frustrated and mad at himself than at you.

Dumping him after that night... it's not so much his reaction that is so dramatic, but what his emotional rollercoaster might be. Here he is finally thinking he can have one good thing in his life, one night of actual hope for a chance at happiness and then hopes: dashed. In my mind he runs out of the house and basically collapses in the nearest alley, with Justice doing an 'I told you so' tapdance on the shattered remains of his heart.

My sane mage Hawke dumps him after the kiss because she doesn't like the fact that he can't let the Fenris thing go, and because she realizes the relationship is a bad idea in general. The only reason my terrible!Hawke dumps Fenris and keeps Anders around is that three years of constant sex is preferable to three years of no sex. But hey, you don't want her near Fenris anyway. She is terrible. It's a pity you can't have the three years in game with Fenris, though I suppose that's what the post-game is for. I do wish there were a way you could run back to Fenris in Act 3 when Anders is acting all squirrely, because I get the idea that that's what a lot of girls want to do.

(I always have to write an offscreen happy ending for Anders in my head though, where he wanders off to find Sigrun or Nate or the Warden to put him back together in the end, because I can't put a character through that kind of ringer without the promise of some kind of respite. Luckily, unromanced or dumped Fenris has an offscreen happy ending that is practically canon anyway, with Isabella.)

Had to delurk to express my appreciation for this. HILARIOUS! Indeed, the Arishok mano y mano duel, which should be the pinnacle of hero-dom, was just pathetic with lots of sad running in circles.  I salute this Hawke, and Arquen. LOL

Wow, a lot of people didn't like Velanna. I liked her, so I guess I'm an exception. Also @ Arquen Great story!! That's how I felt the first time he mentioned the duel to my mage Hawke. I was like "What?! Are you INSANE!!" But yeah, great story. Nothing like humor to start your day. :)

I romanced everybody via my multiple playthroughs, just to see the different outcomes because I get a kick out of that.

Gotta say, when Anders eats your face at his clinic, I thought that was hot. So, I have a tendency to get to that scene then dump him at the door (lol, poor Anders). I'm a patient woman. I'll wait 3 years for Fenris because it is my firm belief, in the cesspool that is my imagination, that he's a damn ANIMAL in bed. Getting thrown against a wall during sexy-times? Yeah, I'll wait 3 years to experience that again, lol.

I wanted to like Velanna really I did.  But no way, her constant whining got to me and I hated her.  One of the few characters I've ever hated.  I can usually see the good and bad in all of a game's NPCs but she really stepped on my last nerve and just would not get off.  <_<
I too have multiple playthroughs and have romanced everyone but Anders.  Fenris is my favourite.  I swear I will complete the Anders romance just so I can see the other side.  But Fenris always steals my Hawke's heart:P  That voice and that kiss do it everytime.  Naughty elf!  [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]

The forums are against me today.  They keep cutting off my post.

Break-even

Fenris stared into the empty bottle of Aggregio. A few, red drops of the wine were at the bottle, but he didn't feel like going for them. That would just be pathetic.

A second later, he drained the bottle of the last few drops.
He stared at the label, making out a few words. Faline had been teaching him, but he was afraid it was going no where. Their sessions were... awkward, to say the least. Since he'd walked out, she hardly looked at him. He missed the elven mage's quirky ways, the way she would nervously giggle when she spoke, how when he surprised her she'd let out a benign jolt of electricity around her hands...he really was hopeless.

But...earlier that day, she'd been different. She'd been her bubbly, cheerful self again. She'd actually smiled at him. He'd been...confused. When he asked her if something was wrong, he'd found out.
Apparently that filthy abomination had gotten his hands on her.
You have no right to feel jealous. You left. he told himself firmly.
She was there with him now. He was probably...touching her. The thought made Fenris sick to his stomach. Without even realizing what he was doing, he tightening his grip on the wine bottle until is shattered with a loud, offensive noise.

He hissed as splinters of glass pierced his lyrium-lined skin. He dropped the remains of what had been a handsome bottle and headed towards the privy. There was a bowl of cold water, which he slowly lowered his hand into. He hisses again as the cuts on his skin stung violently, but ignored it and began to pull out the shards with his teeth and fingers.

It was a slow, agonizing process, but it at least took his mind off of Anders and Faline-
Dammit.
He shook his hand, droplets of watery blood flying around, and grabbed his keys to head back down to the cellar. He needed more alcohol.

He began to unlock the heavy wood door, when he suddenly heard a soft knock. He was confused. It had to be past midnight; who would visit him so late? He knew it had to be visitors. A bounty hunter would have just barged in. So he was left pondering warily as he slowly opened his door.

It was raining heavily, and the tiny figure on his doorstep was soaked to the bone. The mage robes she usually wore were gone, and she was only in a thin nightgown, which stuck her her wet skin. Fenris raised an eyebrow when he noticed she wasn't exactly wearing anything underneath.
The pale elf's bare feet made splashing noises as she shifted her weight from one to the other in a nervous manner.
"Faline?"

The blond-haired Champion watched him eagerly, and sadly. "F-fen...can I come in, please?"
"I...of course," he moved to one side so she could enter the decrepit manor. "But why are you here?"
"It's...complicated." she murmured. As he shut the door, she turned to him with bird-bright blue eyes. "Why are you even up?"
"I could ask you the same," he retorted with humor. A stricken look overtook her youthful features, and she turned from him. He began to feel guilty, until his eyes, against his will, drifted down to watch her hips sway as she moved into the main room.

"Would you...like some wine?" he asked, a bit hoarsely.
"I...suppose."
Relieved, he took advantage of her consent and hurried to the cellar.

The time it took to get the wine was far too short for his liking.

When he returned, she was frowning at the shattered remains of the bottle he'd broken earlier.
"I thought you were just throwing them at the walls," she said, slightly accusingly.
"I tired of decorating the walls." he said. She continued to frown at him. "Will you tell me what's wrong, now?"
"What do you mean?"
"You came running into my mansion in the middle of the night while it was raining in nothing but your nightgown."
"Oh. That." she brushed a lock of hair, which was getting increasingly unrulier as it dried, behind one sharply pointed ear. "It was...nothing important, I...just..."

"Faline, you know I can tell when you're lying."
"...Maker preserve me, but I missed you." she blurted out. "Anders...Anders is an utter moron! He's obnoxious and rude and he smells and he wears shoes - shoes! - even in the house." she crossed her arms and huffed, blowing a strand of hair out of her eyes. "Apparently he thought bad-mouthing you was a brilliant way to get me to bed."
Fenris furrowed his brow with confusion. "What?"

"I was in my room. He came in there. He asked about you. Then called you a beast." Faline let out a small growl from the back of her throat. "I couldn't...I won't...he can't call you that. Not in front of me. So...I had to tell him the truth." her countenance softened and she turned to him again. "I...love you. I know that this is...weird and out of place and you probably don't feel the same way and I'm rambling and dear Maker I need to stop talking to Merrill so much, but...I do. I love you."

"I..." Fenris watched her with a small amount of shock as she walked towards him, not really looking him in the eyes and focusing more on the ties on his tunic.
"Besides, I've always been more of a dog person. Anders is far too...catty, for me." she grinned wryly up and him, and he found himself chuckling at her little pun.

Well, she is an elf.  Their intolerance for shoes must be more then a thing that the artists have. D-D's OCD demands it.
Plus it's hard to go back to playing human!Hawke after playing so many elf!Hawkes. Especially since now I ALWAYS notice their shoes. I'm worse then Leliana, seriosly! <_<

Aveline: *squints eyes* Hawke, what is that?

Hawke: What is what?

Aveline: That ugly bruise on the back of your shoulder?

Hawke: Oh that... *blushes* Honestly, Aveline, we're always fighting a small horde of raiders or carta scum every 20 minutes, I'm not surprised I have a bruise.

Aveline: I don't remember you falling to your back though. And that one looks recent.

Isabela: Oh, no, Aveline. There was one raider who everso aggressively threw our leader against the wall last night.

Aveline: I don't remember that? Did you encounter thugs on your way back to your estate? *glares at Fenris* I thought you walked her home.

Fenris: I did... *looks away*

Isabela: Oh, yeah, he did. *winks at Hawke*

Hawke: Isabela!

Isabela: *grins* Oh, Fenris, those are some nasty scratches along the back of your arms. Care to explain them? I don't remember raiders scratching you in the fit of ecstasy.
