I have no problem about the romance between these two. They are quite cute together.
If my Hawk is romancing someone else, why can't they pursuit their own romance?

LOL another one that got long, but I don't care I ran away with the idea. Based it off a horrible babysitting experience me and my friend had once long ago....

Babysitting

(Night in Hightown. Hawke has asked Fenris to stop by her estate, the messanger Hawke sent was out of breath and said it was urgent. As Fenris walks up to the estate sword at the ready a fireball flies out the window sending debris and sparks lighting up the night. This is followed by muffled screams and the sound of furniture being toppled. Without hesitation Fenris bursts through the main door.)

Hawke: Get over here you little..!! (flings an ice sheet that nearly misses Fenris as he steps through the door. Upon seeing Fenris Hawke turns to him with wide eyes) Oh, thank the maker! Fenris you got my message, HELP ME!

Fenris: Is it bandits? Hunters? Slavers? Coterie? What's going on Hawke? I knew you should have hired guards.

Hawke: It's this little brat my mother had me watch for one of her friends! It's horrible! She is wrecking my house!

Fenris: A child? Hawke, you called me with an urgent messenger to come help you catch... a female child?

Hawke: Look what she did to my mabari! (points to mabari, who is cowering in the corner covered in colored inks, paints, and some substances Fenris doesn't really recognize)

Fenris: Must be fierce indeed if she did that to a mabari war hound. Hawke, are you sure this is just a normal child?

Hawke: My mother had me watch one of her noble friend's daughter. She does whatever she wants! She calls me a Ferelden refugee! She respects nothing, look what she has done! (points at the walls -- which now become apparent to Fenris to also be covered in the same inks and colors and strange substances.)

Fenris: Alright, Hawke, but is it necessary to be using spells of ice and fire to subdue her? It's just a child. You've gone into the deep roads and faced darkspawn, you battled the Arishok. What is one child?

Hawke: That's why I called you.. I thought if I could just catch her.. I don't know.. you could intimidate her or something. She won't listen to me! Plus your mansion was the closest. I don't think anyone else could have made it in time (suddenly a loud crash is heard from the library) Oh, maker, what now?!

(they rush toward the noise only to find the girl throwing books one by one onto the floor. The girl then sits amidst the papers, she digs her hands into an inkwell as she attempts to paint over every page and surface she can find.)

Hawke: Alright, Katrina.. lets hand that ink over to nice miss Hawke now...

Katrina: (looks up from her mess) You want ink Ferelden lady.. here you go! (she throws ink at Hawke, which splays all over her face and shirt, the glare of pure rage in her eyes is unmistakeable, her hands raise up to ignite some spell.. Fenris decides to intervene)

Fenris: Hawke, don't. You will burn your entire mansion down along with us and the child.

(upon hearing Fenris speak Katrina turns her attention to the elf for the first time. Her eyes brighten, and she gets up gleefully..)

Katrina: Your a funny looking elf! You have markings. Mamma says all elves live in alienages and are filthy and poor. She says that elves are no better than Ferelden refugees like miss Hawke.

Fenris: Your mother sounds like she belongs in Tevinter.

Hawke: (chuckles) that's what I told my mother before she stuck me with this..

Katrina: (runs up to Fenris) That's a big sword. My papa has a big sword. He says he kills people with it. Do you kill people mister?

Fenris: (getting agitated) Only people who ask inane incessant questions...

Katrina: what about those markings? Other elves don't have those. How did you get those markings mister...?

Fenris: (Starts to glow) -- they were carved into my flesh in a ritual I remember only for the pain it caused me. Tell me little one, do you know what that is like? (Katrina's eyes become big and wide and she looks at Hawke with a scared expression) Now, do you want to stop with the questions and listen to Hawke? (Katrina nods)

Hawke: wow, I should bring you here more often to intimidate children. And you thought I was being to harsh with my magic... ha.

Katrina: Miss Hawke, elf is scary...

Hawke: Oh, don't mind Fenris.. he's a big softy really, you know.. when he isn't killing people.

Fenris: I don't know if that was a compliment or an insult.

Hawke: come on Katrina, now that your done can you please go to bed now.

Katrina: wait, wait... She runs back up to Fenris standing up tall.. one more question mr scary elf.

Fenris: alright, one more. what is it?

Katrina: do your markings still hurt?

Fenris: you don't want to know the answer to that little one. (suddenly Katrina jumps at Fenris, he recoils but catches the little child, a look of shock and horror on his face)

Katrina: I'm sorry they hurt you mr. elf! I'll be good, I'll listen to miss Hawke if it will make you hurt less!

Fenris: (still in apparent shock) Hawke, I think Katrina has done enough today. (puts katrina down hurriedly, a small smile coming to his lips)

Hawke: Katrina... damn.. (scoops her up) now I don't know whether to hate you or love you. Ha, like someone else I know.. (she gives Fenris a knowing look).

Fenris: Hawke, never ask me to come help you babysit again, deal?

Hawke: Oh, don't worry.. this is the LAST time this will ever happen. Maker, now to clean up this mess. Oh, and you bet your going to help me with that mr. mean scary elf.

No reason, I'm just curious if it's a double-standard, given that Fenris really likes to hear that you only have eyes for him and aren't interested in anyone else. I'm curious why Hawke can't turn that around and ask why he'd "consider" a crazy human who gets in trouble all the time, instead of one of the throngs of admirers who would be attracted to his brooding. mysterious exotic qualties. Varric decreed that women would have broody babies in his honor.

I think the general consensus is that it's the difference between fun and love...

Fenris and Isabella just starts off as fun. If I'm hitting on someone I consider cute but not serious relationship material, there's much less at stake than if I'm hitting on someone who I consider, well... the most important person I've ever met (I have never been in the latter situation, but you get the idea.)

If Hawke has been with someone else, Fenris has two dueling fears: the fear that Hawke is just using him as a replacement for the person she really likes, and fear that Hawke will cast him aside in the same way. With Isabella, at least at first, he doesn't really care about any of that because it isn't serious. If she doesn't want to see him again, then meh. If she does, then good. I'm sure their relationship has a potential to develop further - if there's one person who can teach you what to do with your newfound freedom, it's Isabella - but it starts off as just friends with benefits. His relationship with Hawke obviously starts out with deeply felt emotions, no matter the path.

Hello Fenris-Thread!

I was wondering your opinion on Fenris/Isabella. If neither of them romance Hawke, they will talk about their hook-ups in banter. More then once. (Learned this when my F!Hawke romanced Anders exclusively)

I looked up the dialog:

* Isabela: That night...I can't stop thinking about it.
* Fenris: Well, then I'll see you later.
* Isabela: That was direct.
* Fenris: I thought I'd get straight to the point. Were you expecting flowers or something?
* Isabela: Don't be absurd.
* Fenris: Then I'll see you tonight.

What does the Fenris Thread think of this? I know Isabella eyeballs Fenris as soon as she meets him, but I wonder how this gels with his "Will not romance Hawke unless sure Hawke doesn't want anyone else" attitude. It seems like a double-standard. Hawke doesn't get to ask him if there's anyone else HE wants...

I guess it kinda of is a double-standard because Hawke doesn't really get to ask if he wants anyone but I don't really think he wants Isabela if you romance him because he seems pretty in love with Hawke to me. And Isabela's like the town bicycle so not really romance in my opinion. It's a friends with benefits situation. I mean if you were considering entering your first long-term lovey-dovey relationship, you'd want to make sure they weren't eyeing other people, or maybe he wants to know who the competition is?  That's what I think anyway. Isabela and Fenris are cute together though, and it could definately go further if they wanted it to but knowing those two I personally don't think it would.

I don't see it as a double standard. He'll only go after Isabela if a) Neither have been romanced or B) If Fenris slept with Hawke but then Hawke moved on to Anders/Merrill. From the dialogue, it comes across as more of a "Friends with Benefits" relationship anyway.

I personally see it as that Fenris hasn't got a lot of confidence/self-esteem. I don't think Fenris really believed about the whole "Broody babies" thing, or when any of the other companions compliment him on his skills/what he's done.

So, to him, Hawke could choose anyone, but he/she chooses Fenris, and he's rather shocked and flattered by it. The way I see it, Fenris admires Hawke a little (though chances are he'll not admit to it), so for somebody like Hawke to like him is rather amazing to him.

(That being said, I have yet to Rivalmance him, so I could be wrong).

Edit: Also, I think Fenris just wanted to get laid by Act 3, seeing as Hawke isn't interested.

Because I do like this pair as well!

It's sort of as CGG says, but I think there is an important distinction. That being that it is hard to tell exactly what the relationship Fenris and Isabela have other than the little dialogues and that "one night" that potentially grows into more.

At first Fenris is rather stand offish of Isabela, stating "you've enjoyed many I suspect.." and such comments. Then the banter grows to harmless flirting back/forth. The underclothes thing I don't even see as a real flirt comment honestly. It's Fenris being humorous moreso I think, not flirty. However, the telling convo is the one about "the night," and yet Fenris also is a bit standoffish on this one saying "you expect flowers or something?" -- It is hard to tell from that if they are just having fun and using each other for various "needs" or if they genuinely have some kind of relationship.

I don't think Fenris is the jealous type or anything. It isn't out of jealousy or anger or anything that he gets all unromanceable if Hawke goes to someone else. It is a matter of loyalty. Hawke can flirt with anyone in Act 1 and still retain Fenris' romance. In Act 2 is where you have to be careful because that is the "lets take this to the next step" act when it comes to romances. Basically Hawke offers him/herself to Fenris and Fenris has to "think about it" and only after Hadrianna does he really get the sense he wants to pursue the relationship further. If Hawke is busy flirting up others and making offers to someone else, then Fenris simply feels that Hawke has found someone else, and he backs off. He doesn't want to stay with someone who is romancing everyone else, and that is understandable. That being said he won't sit there and be mr. flirty with anyone else if Hawke romances him. Only if Hawke starts going to others does Fenris go to others as well. He is loyal, and expects Hawke to be as well. Understandable.

I don't see it as a double standard because as soon as Hawke even attempts to romance Fenris he completely shuts Isabela down. He doesn't respond to her flirts and remains stand offish toward her for the remainder of the game. If Hawke goes flirting and romancing others, then Fenris commences with his flirting etc. with Isabela. So, it really isn't a double standard. It is like if Hawke is interested in Fenris he is loyal and doesn't flirt, and if Hawke is flirting and romancing others, then he does the same.

As far as their relationship I think the disapproval of the Izzy x Fenris pair comes from the idea that he can have a relationship with Isabela and NOT leave her high and dry for 3 years whereas with Hawke it is inevitable that he does this. People feel like Isabela gets a better relationship with Fenris because he doesn't appear to leave her at any time after they "hook up." Yet, it is really hard to judge what their relationship is, and to me at least it would never seem as fulfilling and whole and sound as the relationship with Hawke. Not to say they don't make a good pair, but I think Hawke and Fenris have the potential for a deeper, longer lasting relationship.

With Isabela it may just be for fun, it may not last as a solid "love," but it definitely does have potential. They both have serious issues when it comes to trust and love, but sex doesn't appear to be a hindrance to either of them. Fenris can have sex with whoever he wants if Hawke isn't romancing him, that is only fair. Yet, he chooses Isabela because he does have some respect for her that grows from the moment he finds out about her freeing slaves. I think that in itself can be used to blossom into a relationship, and Isabela no doubt respects Fenris and we already know she would jump his bones at any time. Yet I think she could learn to really trust him and maybe eventually love him because he is so loyal and trustworthy and not like anyone else who just uses her. If anything she would be afraid of using him, but as I said it is all assumption and guesswork based on pathetically little knowledge and banter.

Believe me, the statement is accurate for a rivalmance as well. I'll try not to give away too much just in case you don't want it to be spoiled for you, but in the rivalmance, Fenris acknowledges [more than once if I remember correctly] that you two don't always agree, but he still respects you quiet a bit.

And I agree that the relationship he and Isabela have is a little more of a "Friends with Benefits" relationship too, but I can still see the two being there for each other emotionally, despite what Isabela says about herself. The two would work very well together in a more relaxed relationship, in my opinion, but I think both of them are a little too guarded about themselves to engage in the kind of relationship Fenris has with Hawke, unless given a little push. [if that made any sense, what-so-ever. My mind is a little frazzled, I haven't slept.]

All in all, I don't dislike the idea of them as a couple, they would be very cute, and probably even supportive of each other, but a serious relationship between the two is a bit difficult to imagine. Unless it develops in a very melodramatic, soap-opera kind of way. But that's just me. [I like dramatics.  Especially in romances.]

Can't legitamately have an opinion on this (they never get together in my game, -snicker-) but I'm fine with it. Izzie's mah Partner in Hedonistic Crime, and...y'know, chicks before d!cks and all that. :P
I think it's more a Friends with Benefits. I just hope Fen gets himself checked out afterwards...I love Izzie, but even she has too admit, pirates get into some...ah...'nasty' situations. -snickers-

He did, on the first day (the date was on the third night)-- and then about a minute after I did the first kiss, it wore off. <_< I nearly redid it, but it's still so cute. :D

Ezio tanned, Merle tanned (actually, she more turned a nice chocolate brown because she's a dark elf :P), but Fenris... Not so much. Poor guy burned, and I was mean and let Marian constantly hug him. Good thing Sims don't react like elves humans people, or he'd have been in agony and be totally mad at Marian.

Speaking of gutters, I need some help.

I'm trying to see the glowy-kiss-wall-slam scene. I'm told that it happens when he comes to Hawke's house after A Bitter Pill, but when I got to that point, he just Angsted, I was supportive and...then he left.

Questioning Beliefs came up then though, and he would sleep with Hawke if I kept up the Flirtation through THAT. But not only did he not glow, but my F!Hawke threw HIM against the wall. Which I just found embarrassing for all parties.

So I reloaded my save from the beginning of the year. I thought maybe I didn't flirt hard enough. So I played through Act 2 again, flirting whenever I got a chance to, until I got to the Bitter Pill scene and AGAIN he just walked away.

So do I somehow need to get his Questioning Beliefs BEFORE A Bitter Pill in order to make the glowy kisses happen? This all seems a very roundabout way of doing things.

Bingo. :D

You MUST do Questioning Beliefs before A Bitter Pill if you want glowy-wall-kiss. Usually, if your Friendship/Rivalry is high enough with him at the end of Act I, it's one of the first conversations you can get at the start of Act II. If you can't, drag him on all the quests that you stay in the city (he can be brought on Blackpowder Courtsey as well-- you don't leave Kirkwall via map when you go out to Smugglers Cut, so no Slavers, and it seems you can't encounter them if you're going back to Kirkwall) until the poison you picked (Friendship/Rivalry) is high enough to pop Questioning Beliefs. Then go wherever outside of Kirkwall that tickles your fancy with Fenris, do A Bitter Pill, and then use the flirt at the last dialogue option at the end of the quest when you're back home (I believe it's, "Don't go."), which should then trigger the kiss you're after.

=DO NOT READ ON UNLESS YOU WANT SPOILERS ABOUT HOW THE GLOWY-WALL-KISS GOES DOWN! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!=

And the Hawke throwing Fenris against the wall (even though it's OOC to the extreme for Diplomatic Lady!Hawke) doesn't stop-- Fenris will slam Hawke against the wall and Hawke (or at least mine-- I primarily play Diplomatic Lady!Hawkes with points of humor to counter the normally door-mattish-ness) sort of has this split second look of horror before s/he hauls of and kisses him, turns him around, and then throws him against the wall. It's all very weird when I describe it, but it makes sense when you see it.

...So basically, there is very little way to get the Glowy Kiss on a pro-mage playthrough. I support mages without getting Fenris to hate me, but he doesn't like me enough for just being nice to him in conversations and sending Ella back to the Circle to get approval high enough.

I never understand how people have such a prob with fenris' romance. It takes some micromanaging but it is easy to build friendship with him even as pro-mage. You have to do qb before and not flirt with anyone else in act 2 to get glowy kiss.

In my playthroughs he gets a look of horror, she first looks surprised, then gets this little smile just before kissing him.  I have often wondered what her train of thought was there....

(Now my turn fenris.. ) *grabs him and reverses..* (now were even...)

At least how it goes in my head lol. I love the reversal. Hawke showing he/she can be just as strong and fenris submitting somewhat to accept hawke on even terms, and enjoy the ride ;p

That fanart is beautiful, you are among the talented! Do more do more!
