I think it would be good for Fenris to have a motherly figure like Wynne; the most badass grandma ever.

Then I thought about it and realised the closest person to being Team Mum in DA2 is HAWKE. No wonder the origins gang seems so stable by comparison! (Aveline comes a close second but seems more 'cool big sis' to me. Varric, of coarse is the Team Dad)

I can also see Wynne having a conversation about where babies come from with Fenris and/or Merrill if they're in a relationship with Hawke. And her having a "swaying hips" convo with Fenris in a relationship with Hawke (especially female Hawke, because she *definitely* has swaying hips).

And no, I'm not dead. Just extremely busy playing NWN:HotU:whistle:

Wynne: *Chuckle*

Fenris: *Annoyed* Something funny, mage?

Wynne: You were watching her.

Fenris: *Put-upon sigh* No, I wasn't.

Wynne: You were.  Quite intently in fact.  With the most soulful look in your eyes.

Fenris: My eyes are not "soulful".  And besides, I wasn't watching her. I was just...thinking.

Wynne: *Self-satisfied* Yes.  Yes, I'm sure you were.

Fenris: What?  That's not what I--!

Hawke: What are you two talking about back there?

Fenris: *Very red* Nothing!

Eh, my Hawke could never qualify as Team Mum (too sarcastic anymore). I don't even think I see the party having a Team Mum. Just a Team Parent.

Aveline is Team Awesome Amazon Big Sis. Isabela is Team Cool Big Sis. Merrill is Team Woobie/Little Sister. Anders doesn't even have a Team in my book-- he's just "The Chick" and as about as useful as Eragon in the first two Inheritance Cycle books with my healing!Hawke (which, for those of you who never read the books, Eragon is only pretty useful in the first two when he's knocked out and dragged along while knocked out). Fenris is Team Badass (but mind you, not Team Badass Normal. NOBODY qualifies for Badass Normal in this gig). Varric is the only Team Parent.

Hawke's The Hero

Fenris is  The Lancer, our grizzled, grumpy second.

Varric is The Smart Guy

Aveline is The Big Guy Girl

Merrill's The Chick

Anders is The Medic

Aveline is definitely team mom, she can give Wynne a run for her money when it comes to finger wagging. And she is so overbearing, wish there was a dialogue option to say "Just relax" lol. Though she did get along with Fenris pretty well eventually. Though he didn't want to play cards with her.

As for Danarius and giving him back. I can buy into it completely. I know people get irked and want to see him angry and pissed and trying to kill you, to run, to do SOMETHING, but the fact is that it is beyond betrayal.

Basically everyone in the game has that one event that just throws them over the edge. Whether on friendship, rivalry, romance, or not if you betray him to Danarius it is a shattering of his psyche. He let you in, let you help him, trusted you, and in the end he realizes you thought of him as nothing but property to bargain away.

I agree, it would have been unbelievable if he just got angry and wanted to fight and wouldn't have been nearly as good of a scene, that kind of betrayal is soul shattering. They handled that scene very well.

It is the perfect way to handle it, I wouldn't have it any other way, but damn is it heartbreaking.  It's painful to watch because you can see everything Arquen said in his voice and body language during that scene.  The fact that it makes people angry, makes them want him to fight tooth and nail to escape is another testament to the quality of the writing in the game, in my opinion.  The kind of Hawke you'd have to play for that sort of thing to be in character...*Shudder*

One of the things that really gets me about that scene is how Anders seems to take such glee in Hawke giving Fenris away.  By that point in Act III he's gone as crazy as Meredith.  Justice-free Anders was never that cruel and Justice used to get pissed off about Ser Pounce having no freedom, let alone actual people.  This is why humans and fade spirits should under no circumstances share head space. :pinched:

What about Wynne and Faith? They share head space.

Seriously, it makes me queasy to even think of giving Fenris back to that monster under any circumstance.  I watched the scene on YouTube, and it made me sick to my stomach.  How could anyone do that to another person?  It's one of those things (like giving Branka the anvil -- just the thought of pouring molten lyrium into someone makes me ill) that I have never done in the game and probably never will.  It's just too....evil....to even consider.  How any "human" being could do that to another is beyond me.

I think it's a terrible thing to do.  Even if you hate Fenris, to me, the better action is to send Fenris away (or in this case not use him).  I'm not sure you can after the original quest to pick Fenris up.  I can't imagine how anyone could given anyone to Danarius.  It's a icky thing to do. And that scene is tough to watch, as it should be, again in my opinion.

I've been RPGing a very long time. No character I've *ever* played would do this in character. I guess I am just predictable, but I tend to play 'good' characters.

Restarted the canon PT - and within 3 minutes I wasn't sorry; it's been months since I've seen the early game. (I was EEKing over deleting all the old save files, but I'm on summer break now and I want to review parts of the early game content anyway since I actually have time to write now).  DAMN but Fenris owns his entrance; I was still squeeing like a Fengirl.  (And I needed that after all the talk of handing him over. :crying:)

I have to confess, I bought a thumb drive to hold canon Wardens and Hawkes.  I was asking myself as I moved them from my hard drive just why in the heck I'd done it, but I just can't delete them.....

I have tried to play a "wicked" character.   Best I can do is mildly antisocial. It's funny, but there are a few things I just can't make myself do in these games, even being "bad."   I go out to the gods of gameplay threads and borrow their builds...I just finished a DW Shadow Duelist....I was truly a superwoman by the end of the game.  Great fun!  I was going to romance Sebastian because someone says you can kiss him in Legacy...but I guess I started the DLC too early...no kiss.  Even at that, I still ended up with the Wolf.  I just couldn't resist.   My sister is a big House fan, so I sent her a pic of Fenris.  She returned with one of Hugh Laurie.  I sent another of Fenris saying, "I'll see your House and raise you a Fenris."  So, she raised with "Eric Northman" from True Blood.  Much as I love the elf, that viking is hard to beat Posted Image

I have tried very hard to be a wicked character and I never pull it off.  Even my renegade Shepard isn't that renegade.:pinched:  And like some of those interrupts.   I always end up with a relatively good characters.  Sometimes I can pull off neutral but not truly agressive hard heart main characters.

Even when I  was rivaled him - I did not send him back to slavery - he turned on me  for siding with  Mages and get a warriors death. Thats  how he and Hawke  saw Fenris   a worthy rivial . Sending back to Slavery is  just plan cruel.

Ugh...formatting demons...

 Prompt: Memory

An obscure inn in one of the cities of the Free Marches
9:37 Dragon

Fenris closed the copy of The Tales of the Black Fox that he’d borrowed from Aniya. She was right; he had enjoyed It. “It’s been one of my favorites for a very long time,” she’d said, right after he’d nearly put it back. It was the only book she’d ever even remotely hesitated to loan him.

He was glad, not for the first time, she’d suggested teaching him to read and write, even though at the time it had made him acutely uncomfortable. It took his mind off the incessant waiting for information or, now, waiting to see if Varania would even respond to his first attempt at contacting her.  It was also, after one of the more frustrating early ‘lessons’ where he’d been bested by an advanced child’s primer, when he’d started to really believe that Hawke viewed him not simply as a useful ally.

He’d paced back and forth in her library and ranted angrily about not seeing the point, and why she was even bothering to waste her time teaching a slave how to read. She’d tolerated his rant up until that point, and let him vent, but the second he’d said that, she’d set the primer down on the table so hard it made the glasses jump.

“All right, that’s enough!”

As he took a breath to retort, she continued. “No, shut it and listen to me. You’re. Not. A. Slave. Anymore. I can’t imagine what that was like, but the sooner you get it through your thick skull that you aren’t, the sooner you can start trying to live like it.”

He started to retort about her thinking him stupid, but she cut him off.

I’m not done.  No, I don’t think you’re stupid. Far from it, and you’ve proven me right about that multiple times. This isn’t a waste of time unless you think it is. I think one day you’ll thank me.” She took a deep breath and calmed herself, then continued, as he stared at her in stunned silence. “Besides,” she commented dryly, “it might give you something to do besides sit around at night and brood about being a slave when you aren’t.”

Now he had a chance to get a word in – and found that she’d defused his anger as easily as she disarmed most traps. “I don’t brood! And why would you think I…” He sighed and sat back down. “…might need that?” Drily, he muttered, “I walked right into that.”

Aniya was trying not to grin but failing. “Yes, you did. “ Then, she turned serious. “Look, I don’t think this is a waste of time, but if you really don’t want to do this – “

“No.” What she was really saying was still sinking in, and he was too surprised, and too flattered, to be angry now. “I apologize.”

He started to reach for the primer, but she set her hand down on it thoughtfully.

“Let’s look at this another way. I love to read. Let me explain why.”  She folded her hands and sat back more comfortably. “Then, you can tell me what you think.”

“One of my first memories of my father of him reading. He used to read to me when I was little, especially when I was sick or had nightmares. When Mother found she was with child again, he started to teach me to read too. Still, when I had nightmares, or sometimes just because we could, we’d read to each other, and even read like we were the characters. It was usually pretty silly, and always fun. “ She smiled. “The best memory I have of him is falling asleep to the sound of his voice. When I read now, I can still hear it.”

That last was said in a quieter voice, and he was surprised to see the usually brash mercenary on the edge of tears. When she realized he’d seen it, she waved a hand and made a face. “I didn’t mean to get all misty on you. I’m sorry.”

“No, don't apologize. I can see why you feel the way you do. It makes sense.”

“That’s the thing about memories, Fenris. Even they have a price. They can be beautiful, and very real, but they can also remind you of what you’ve lost.”

A week or so later, with the help of a significant amount of wine, he’d summoned the trust and the courage to
tell her of the Fog Warriors.

As he finished rethinking that conversation in his head, his hand moved over the cover of the book he’d borrowed. It was old. Its cover had been torn and repaired multiple times, and the binding lovingly re-stitched at least once. He flipped it back open to realize that some of the pages had even been painstakingly re-lettered, in handwriting he now recognized as Aniya’s.

“It’s been one of my favorites for a long time…”

He suddenly understood the significance of the most battered book in Aniya’s library. He tucked it carefully back into his pack, hoping to return it to her without a need for further repairs.

Marshmallow

Hawke: Come on, I think it's cute.

Fenris: It isn't cute, it's embarrasing.

Hawke: I think it's fitting, you're sweet, soft, and your hair is white.

Fenris: I don't understand your obsession with pet names. What's wrong with the name I have?

Hawke: Nothing's wrong with it, I just think Marshmallow is a cute nickname for you. Maker knows that it beats "That Angsty Tevinter Elf."

Fenris: You have a point there.

I've missed some good stuff, lol.

Working again... also been hinging on anime. Let me tell you mixing anime and dragon age obsessions can cause some messed up dreams.

To chime in on the danarius and evil char thing. I can play seriously evil characters. I have roleplayed mass murdering psychopaths who are antisocial and sociopathic to extreme degrees. However, I cannot give fenris back. Even my total biatch hawke could not do it. I've murder knifed Anders, killed merrill, let isabela leave (tho I never gave her to the arishok just let her go), rivaled varric and aveline (which leads to a hilarious punch scene). Yet when that scene comes up for fenris I just can't do it. It makes waaayyy more sense even as evil to kill the magister, keep the warrior of awesome, and take the loots. To turn over fenris and get what... 5 gold? Wtf cheapskate I can kill your ass and loot more.

So it doesn't benefit evil or any hawke. If you hate Fenris don't recruit him. I want to say also that if you refuse to help him with hadrianna he leaves the party. Not sure though.

Personally I get teary watching that scene on youtube and I've never been able to click it. Ever...

Yeah I can't RP evil Hawke handing over Fenris either. He's a slavishly devoted superpowered elf (as far as my Hawke's concerned). That's far more valuable than idiot Danarius and his lousy 5 sovereigns. Besides my evil Hawkes tend to be mages. They like to see how good they are compared to a Tevinter Magister.

Vault

Hawke Estate
Cellars

Fenris: So this place is safe?

Hawke: Well, considering that so far this vault held up to a group of slavers, various assassins, and Isabela's attempts to break in I'd say its safe from any interruptions.

Fenris: (wraping an arm around Hawke's shoulders) So no ancient evils, blood mages, or Templars?

Hawke: No it's just us and- Merrill? How did you get in here?

Merrill: I...I don't really know. I was trying to get back home and I just sort of ended up here.

Hawke: But the cellar's rigged with death traps, and the vault door's made of solid iron and triple-locked.

Merrill: So I'm not in Lowtown?

Hawke: No you're under my house.

Merrill: Oh. Do you think you could help me get home?

Hawke: (sighs) Alright, come on Fenris.

Fenris: But-

Hawke: I'll make it up to you later, alright?

Fenris: Very well. (starts muttering under his breath) Mages.

This Right here its full of win... wait... You killed  Merrill but but but  ah what the hell ... I killed  Fenris though he left me no  choice it was at end of game.  Posted Image

Anders I can understand  - I wanted to knife him soooo bad but damn  him having the only group heal in the game and my uwavering loyalty even when they do something  epically stupid.

Though with  the whole Fenris I wish was some Last ditch effort to sway him dialogue before .

Now I am going to try to watch some of last episodes  of Xam'd Lost Memory on Hulu   and feed my anime addicition.

Ok if fenris turns on you there is an option to get him back. If he meets you with his templar posse its to late.

My bf didn't even do his last qb quest and still got him back. I find it so strange how people have to kill him with no options. He's always sided with me and if he betrays you he most of the time has the option to go back.

The only one im not sure about is rival... if he leaves you on rival I don't think you can convince him back. But I know for sure you don't have to even do his last qb quest to get him back.

It boggles my mind. Just because I can't even get him to betray me... I would have to try at it for that result. My kneejerk reaction is to be like "what did you do wrong?!" When people say that they killed him lol.
