I asked this awhile back, it may have been buried in the Fenders discussion or no one was interested. I will retry and if it doesn't fly again I'll give it up.

What do people think of Fenris keeping his slave name? I know it is the only name he has known, but he hates Danarius, I see it kinda strange that he would keep a name he doesn't really even think of as his, but as one his master gave him. Do you think he ever trys to change it? After he finds out what his name was does he not identify with that name enought to ever use it again?

I don't see him doing so because of his conversation about Aveline regarding her name (I believe it ends with a "couldn't you just change your name?" "couldn't you?" "Point.".

Like it or not that name is part of him. Part of his history. I don't see him changing it.

While it is a hard concept to really grasp, on rivalry these people are still technically "your friends"...since they are still remaining loyal to you despite disagreeing with your decisions or what you say to them, etc. (which yeah, I think is dumb but that's just how the game is) He becomes consumed with trying to prove to Hawke that he isn't controlled by Justice, and all the while Hawke keeps going "yes you are, yes you are...do something about it." He has no actual support system, and this leads him into a depression where he is desperately trying to prove everyone wrong so he tries extremely hard to fight against Justice and what he has become.

In friendship, Hawke is supportive and doesn't condemn him for his decision to merge with Justice and overall makes him feel better about it. I guess I just don't view him trying to separate from Justice as a necessarily "good" thing, it makes him extremely unstable on the rivalry path. It does more harm than good, because he literally cannot control Justice at all. It is like a completely split personality. How do you expect to separate from something that is literally a part of you? He can't just be all like "oh I'm just going to compartmentalize Justice in this little corner of my brain" and go about his daily life. It doesn't work like that. He loses control by trying so hard to fight against it, which is ironic because Rivalry Hawke is all about "you need to gain control!"

On friendship, he is able to stabilize himself a lot more. He grows to, like I said before, kind of accept what happened. He learns to accept that he has to live with Justice, not fight against it and try to be two different people. He is not just "Anders" anymore...he is Justice and Anders. It's always made perfect sense to me that way...doesn't seem backwards at all to me. But to each their own, I suppose.

I like to think that he keeps Fenris and makes it his own. He doesn't know who Leto is, so I don't think that he would decide to go by that. Being "Fenris" and everything that came with it is what made him who he is, I think that he would want to take that and make it his own as he is doing with his life.

Good point, though I would worry about him carrying a name that carries so much memories to his life as a slave. But I suppose to a elf with no memories at all he will take the good with the bad.

Oh god. I almost want troll Hawke to suggest something like "Fist" and follow it up with something pervy.  Isabela would defintely own the suggestions though.

In a perverse way, it sort of makes sense that Fenris would keep his name. It's like, "So you called me a wolf because you think I'm a pet? I'll show you the sort of wolf I really am! Frack you, Denarius!"

I keep trying to abandon the forum so I can go play my "rival everyone" playthrough and I swear the PTB don't want me to do this. Headache time here and now. It goes away when posting though. Plus I keep getting distracted my amio and her Akiva/Fenris art. I want my Hawke to rival Fen like Akive rivals Fen. *Om nom nom*

Heh. I've recently gone on a romance Fenris binge. I try to romance Anders...but the rivalrymance ends up losing to Fenris' friendship mance...and I dislike friendship Anders (and it doesn't help that Fenris' rivalrymance blows it out of the water IMHO). So...D: 

I just keep on romancing Fenris. I'm just addicted.

It's not an addiction, it's a life choice , I dunno, the other romances don't do much for me. There should be a support group for fenmancers too. People that can't seem to stop, or branch out. I have yet to force myself through a playthrough for each charcter, I cheat and use a Act two save to see how the romance scenes work out for everyone else. I have many many Fenris romancing Hawkes mostly male, a couple female so that he can have kids in my head!canon.

Sorry anout the shortish weird post this was before, my otp walked in a booted me off the comp before I was done. For work! The nerve, right?

And yes, remember during the weeks before DA2 came out, how Aimo would post small pieces of MHawke/Fenris art? hahahaha and there's that one they are in bed, with Fenris on top
