I asked this awhile back, it may have been buried in the Fenders discussion or no one was interested. I will retry and if it doesn't fly again I'll give it up.

What do people think of Fenris keeping his slave name? I know it is the only name he has known, but he hates Danarius, I see it kinda strange that he would keep a name he doesn't really even think of as his, but as one his master gave him. Do you think he ever trys to change it? After he finds out what his name was does he not identify with that name enought to ever use it again?

In my opinion, Fenris keeps his slave name because it's the only name he knows.  He has nothing else to identify himself with or by.  His memories are gone.  The name is a link to the only thing familiar.  As he grows and re-creates as himself then that may change.  Leto is just a name and besides he was a slave as Leto, I believe.  The name change from Leto to Fenris comes later, doesn't it.

For me, the whole kiss scene when he comes back is odd. Not the idea of him coming back and all that, but the animation. It has always struck me as being done awkwardly, so I usually try to aim for getting the slam-against-the-wall kiss if I can get it.

I remember the first time I played DA2 and got that scene, I felt really bad because of the look on Fenris's face as the camera pans away. To me it came across as him thinking 'DO NOT WANT' with a tragic expression. But as one of my friends explained, he was probably just taken aback by how things had suddenly changed.

And now I really want to play DA2 again. Garr.

Agree on all points, the friendmance wall scene is always the way go for me cause it makes me oh so happy. I love the idea of passion catching up to people in a moment they didn't expect. Its the rivalmance verseion that makes me feel like things are a bit off, so I prefer when he comes back to initiate.
Now I have to change my opinion with this Danarius squick going down. I take it back, there were no find feelings for Danarius coming from Leto. Also, if I had that thing... Posted Image, I can't even think about it. If I were Leto I would have been looking for a way out. God as if I didn't hate that creepy mage enough. Fens anger toward mages is so, so justified. Posted Image My poor elf. Now how will I be able to rival him!

Fenris: Where are the plans?

Danarius: I have no idea what you're talking about. I am a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Kirkwall.

Also, best drunk Fenris pic ever RIGHT HERE:

Hawke: Fenris how did you do that?
Fenris: The markings curse me with the ability to reach through a man's chest and tear out his heart. I figured, why not?
Hawke: That could make you so much coin!
Fenris: As you and Isabela keep reminding me...

Is it me or is there something wrong with how he's holding that bottle?

Mages are not slaves. "I see no oppression here, I see danger, and fear." Fenris does NOT equivolate slavery with the circle.

No, he doesn't. However, that doesn't mean that he's right, either. Sure, he doesn't see oppression, because he doesn't want to see it. Presumably he isn't listening to any of the ambient conversations in the Gallows, like the one where the mage says the templars will have her flogged for speaking to a civilian, or the heartbreaking one where the mage meets his ex-lover, who's been made Tranquil. Throughout the game, Fenris doesn't change his opinion on mages, except with regards to a mage Hawke, or Bethany, even after it's become quite clear that there are more than a few out-of-control templars, and that Meredith isn't doing jack to rein them in.

That's why I think Anders and Fenris are the opposite sides of the same coin: neither one of them is willing to admit that they might be wrong. Anders will never admit that mages are, in fact, inherently dangerous, and Fenris will never admit that the current system is inherently prone to abuse, and needs to be changed.

Hm...I didn't find it disturbing. Definitely not rape. Fenris could easily rip off my dude Hawke's balls off if he wanted too.

I see it as more boiling passion and reluctance before he finally gives in.

No, I never see it as rape, but I do see it as being highly uncomfortable with what he is doing/allowing/wanting. My Hawke is so sensitive to that with Fenris they rival because of a difference in opinion my rivalmance was never cruel to him. So when he was refusing to look I myself was looking for a way to get my Hawke to back off. It felt too strange. If people are uncomfortable it's usally because they are not ready and I got that vibe big tiime.

I found it disturbing, but I honestly don't think it was intentional. There are other moments where Fenris' eyes don't track properly, and I just handwave it as an animation goof.

Jeez, I was just watching Fenris get pissy with Hawke when she trolls him about keeping Orana as a slave and I have now decided Tevene is the only language worth swearing in.

I've seen the Imperial language referred to as Tevene, Tevinter, and Arcanum. Does anyone know what, officially, it's called?

The even ground those two will never come to is that mages are just people, as a group they no more or less dangerous than any other. Its all about the individual, the tools they use to harm people are irrelevant. You don't say this guy killed 5 people and that guy killed 20, the latter is more dangerous, no their both dangerous killers.

But both choose to generalize and ignore the individual, that is why they can never come together. You see it with Fenris when you talk to him about the Magisters and say that all cant be evil blood mages and he backs down for a second to entertain the thought, but then goes right back into the tirade against them.

Can all you voice actor experts listen to this? I think it's Gideon Emery voicing a character in Guild Wars 2. What I think is his voice is in the audio called "arching boughs": http://www.arena.net...he-sylvari-soul If that is him then I'm going to be all over this game looking for NPCs that sound like Fenris.

Actually he points out that there *was* such a good magister (tried to abolish slavery) but he was quickly assassinated.

From whta I can recall anyway.

You can always check with Mr. Emery. Have you looked the credit? If his name is among them, chances are it's probably him.

I think it is him. I checked IMDb and there's no guild wars 2 (Star Wars: OR is listed however) but maybe it's just too early. :wizard:

I think it was finally settled as Tevene. A fic writer explained it and everything and she explained why the other option were not the language. I can try to fin it later and link it for you. Posted Image

*Pops on*

See, I wasn't going to listen to all of these. I looked at the sylvari redesign, decided I was OK with it and still totally going to play my already planned Winter-aligned Necromancer sylvari and Spring-aligned Thief sylvari, and then I didn't want any more knowledge besides the basics.

I think if it is and we find the NPC, I'm going to be afraid of how many people are simply going to stalk the poor NPC.

And I already think the guy VA'ing Logan Thackeray is kinda cute (really odd for me to say, but it's true), and now I imagine him in the same room as Gideon Emery.

Well, ****. That's kinda... you know... nosebleed status to me. (I feel very weird and dirty now)

Now, I'm going to listen to all the audio clips. *Pops in headphones and hangs sign around neck that says: "Do Not Disturb".*

I also don't think that he would resume the name Leto because he learns it from his sister as she betrays him.  He has no positive connections to the name.  Why would he want to associate with it?  At least 'Fenris' has six years of positive use as the name he's been called by Hawke and the rest of his friends.

I got that, like I said there was another girl looking into it, I don't know exactly what was decided since I didn't care and therefore didn't read, but I noticed the people posting in the thread eventually started calling it Tevene and I have seen some call it Arcanum and then cross it out for Tevene so I assumed thats what was being used. As I don't know wether it is fanon or not I still though I would link it for darkrose since it seemed like a convo she would be interested in.

Darkrose: Uhg, I won't link it since most everything is out of context but apparently Gaider refers to the language as Tevinter, and a Dragon Age pen-and-paper RPG guide says that a Circle Mage would start out knowing "Ancient Tevine."  I think though I haen't checked yet that the DAwiki also refers to it as Tevene, or Tevine.

The Hanged Man

Varric: If he were to punch you in the face, you'd have to fight off the urge to thank him. Bear hugs are what he gives bears. The guard often question him, just because they find him interesting. He punched out a mage's heart. That's right you heard me. He's a lover not a fighter...but he's a fighter too so don't try anything.

Fenris: (still phasing hand through bottle) Are we done yet?

Varric: Hold on elf, I'm still working on the wild falsehoods. (inhales) He is the most interesting elf in the world.

Fenris: I don't always drink wine. But when I do, I prefer...what was this swill called again?

Varric: Damned if I know. Maker's breath I told the Merchant's Guild that marketing cheap wine using Hawke and the rest of us as spokesmen was a bad idea.

This has been driving me nuts, so I've done all the research I could. In DG's short story about Fenris, he refers to the language as "Tevinter". I have not found any other canon source that refers to the language by name. In fanon, it is widely referred to as Arcanum, but that seems to have originated in the DA wiki, there is no source for it, and nothing in the game, books or Codex ever refers to it as "Arcanum". No clue where that even came from.
