Just unequip his gear before he betrays you. No need to swap to a lower setting. I almost never drop below Hard on any encounter. I'm just not "hard kore enuff" to go Nightmare just yet. Also? Crushing Prison. Live it, learn it, love it ;p

Greetings, all. I come with a question: What have you guys speculated Fenris was hoping was in the chest during the Bait and Switch quest?
Working on a fic now, and doing some long range planning. I'm pretty sure this came up as a topic at least once and I'm hoping to pick your brains for opinions. Thanks!
Also, the box.. the best description we have is that it was "lyrium" from Anso. Of course most people assume that is a lie and what was really in the box is a trap, but Fenris was lured to it because he thought it was something more. That something being the ever present mystery.
In my personal opinion it was either information about Danarius coming to Kirkwall and where he was hiding (which Fenris found on the dead guard anyways) or something about his past that was "leaked" for him to be interested in. It could be information on how he was being tracked by Danarius, something about recovering his memories, even something about his real name and personal history. Even if it was documents or something he would be tempted to find these things and just have someone read them to him (willing or no, lol). Yet Fenris being Fenris realizes it is just a trap, looks mildly disappointed but not surprised and forgets all about it.
Meanwhile Hawke is like.. but... what were you expecting? telll meeeeee
Hawke: so what were you expecting to find in the box?
Fenris: It was a trap, nothing more.
Hawke: but.. but...
Fenris: It is not important. The chest was empty.
Hawke: but.. I HAVE to know what you thought it was! It's killing me not to know!
Fenris: It's been almost 10 years Hawke. I can't believe you still remember that. How is it still bothering you after all this time?
Hawke: It drives me mad! I keep thinking about that day, and your face, and how you were so disappointed. What did you hope to find? tell meeee.
Fenris: I don't remember now...
Hawke: what? seriously? YOU ALWAYS say that.
Fenris: It is the truth. It was not important. I don't really remember. Leave it be, Hawke.
Hawke: HmfpH! Fine. Don't tell me. I'll learn your secrets! Just you wait! (leaves in a huff)
Fenris: (under his breath) I don't think the "don't remember" excuse is going to work much longer... hmm. Must think of something else.

He one-shotted my mage Hawke the first time I did that quest. Since then, I hit him with a Petrify at the beginning of the fight, deal with the demon, then take care of Fenris. My typical party is Isabela, Fenris, and Anders, so I have Justice there too; one of the rare instances when I actually like having him around.

I always talk to Torpor and off Anders - or actually, Fenris offs Anders for me. He one-shots Anders quite nicely . . . and then I generally do the Desire demon, and lose Isabela (I always take her, I can't miss the 'big boats' line!), and then go and do Wryme with just Fenris and myself. And yeah, as someone said earlier, Cone of Cold works great against Fenris. I don't bother to move away, I just throw that out the second he turns hostile, and one-shot HIM. Or use Twin Fangs or Assassinate, on my rogues.

Seriously, I always assumed Fenris thought it had information about his past in it. Papers perhaps?
On monogomy - yes I am in games. I find an LI I like and have problems finishing runs with anyone else. Fenris is my guy in DA2, Zev for DAO, Kaidan in ME's. If I mix it up I tend not to be able to finish the runs. I'm odd I know.
Oh and /wave Fenris fans, long time no post

If he got the first hit in, I'm sure he'd oneshot me, but I try to make sure that doesn't happen.

Not me. I usually get torn between two of the LIs. In ME that's Garrus and Kaidan. DA:O, Alistair and Zev. DA2, Fenris and Anders.
DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!

To chime in on that romance thing. I've not been able to do any other romance besides Fenris on my FemHawkes. I have 6 playthroughs... well.. 7 now since I started this one.
I knew immediately when I saw the character I wasn't going to go back on my decision, LOL. In origins as well I didn't want any other romance except Alistair's. I know.. Zevran.. I loved him and his story but he wasn't the one that "got" me.
On my one male Hawke I romanced Isabela. To quote Fenris... "it was.. fine," but didn't have that satisfaction that the Fenris romance does. I've watched all of Anders' romance on YouTube, but I still can't seem to go through with it. I keep telling myself "one day.. one day..."
So yeah you could say when it comes to Dragon Age I'm pretty monogamous too, LOL.

I happen to have romanced Anders 2 times more than Fenris. Reason being the comfort Anders gives you when your mother dies is possibly the best of all the companions, Isabela as second.
Though Fenris comfort fits him. I would have said out loud "Are you getting soft?" had he started talking about hugs and stuff.

I don't rock the earth/lightning tree till way at the end of act 2/begining of act 3 on my mage, so I don't have petrify that early in. I go full Primal, then take the weapon enchant sustain, Mindblast, and Crushing Prison, and full Force Mage so I can shut down the waves and Fireball/Firestorm my little heart out. then I throw one point into Spirit Healer for the regen ;p
I like to "betray" Anders to torpor, mostly just for the "Prig" line. I always double cross torpor afterwards, because my mage (and my rogue, and my warrior) is better then that (and Anders is my mage's bestiest best best guy-friend evar, and my rogue's boyfriend) and its so worth it for the 5 points of friendship and then 10 points of rivarly from Fenris
Actually the only one who Friend's Fenris anymore is My warrior, and that's because she Rivals Anders

I love Fenris' attempt to offer comfort, because it's so realistic. What do you say in that situation? What do you say to the person you're in love with to the point where it freaked you out and you ran away? What do you say if you're not exactly someone who's comfortable dealing with emotions? Fenris' response was spot on, to me.

I completely agree about the Fenris dialogue after Leandra. In fact I find it exactly what my Hawkes want to hear most of the time. They don't want "sorry for your loss," and explanations of why's and platitudes. They just want someone there. Someone they care about.
When he says: "To be honest I don't see much point in filling these moments with idle talk." I completely agree. When a tragic event like that occurs there really isn't anything to say. It is just enough to know that he comes by and tries. That is enough for my Hawkes.

Hey everyone! I lurk around this thread at least twice a day...or more and never actually post anything so...yeah. Here's the link to a video I made about Fenris: www.youtube.com/watch and I'd like some constructive criticism about it and where better to go for that then here. Also, I have to thank someone on here for giving me a VAST obsession. They suggusted that the song "Flames" would go well with the Fenris romance so I listened to it and it goes extremely well, but now I'm addicted to VAST. Not that I'm complaining.
