"What did Fenris think was in the chest?"

Information on his family. He didn't really think it was true, and was all but certain it was just a way to lure him into the open, but he couldn't ignore it.

"Did Fenris know about the ritual? Or just the boon?"

Just the boon. Even if he'd known about what was going to be done to him, he wouldn't have known what that meant.

G'Day to you, Ser!

Thank you for answering them.

Here, we are running out of cookies at the moment, but we have Tiramisu!

Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions. It is very generous. <3

Thank you for answering those! I've been wondering about both those things for a while, and while I assumed he only knew about the boon (really, why would Danarius explain himself to slaves?), I had no clues about what could have been in the chest, and it's good to have my curiousity satisfied.

It is said, by fans of this threat, Fenris' favourite dessert.

Not confirmed by any dev though.

I KNEW IT... That is exactly what I thought in regards to both those things. I either thought it was something about his family or something about how Danarius was finding him. Of course we know he didn't *really* think it was true, but he just never says what he did think. Also, I always was on board he did it for the boon and nothing else. I couldn't ever accept that he actually knew anything about the ritual or the markings. Gah, I'm so happy and grateful for the answers to these. They have been plaguing the thread and debated forever!

I totally had a fangirl freak-out over here.. something is wrong with me.

I'll second the thank you!  Phenomenal job on the characters - clearly Fenris is a winner 1700+ pages later!

And about the depth/design of those markings....

Thank you sir!
I suspected as much but it's nice to get confirmation from the man that birthed this most amazing creation.
(trying to keep the behind kissing to a minimum .. is it working?)

But that goes against the character set out in the short story, too.  They're both facets.  He'd have the shallow connection thinking he needed/deserved no better, maybe.

Thanks for posting the story, great read! However I must be missing the part inferred by the story that would have a bearing on his character if would be okay with a casual hook-up? (that was a strange sentence, I am no writer.) I *can* see how it might happen but just based on the LI dialogue I had posted before makes it appears to me that he would rather be alone than with anyone else unless there was a level of trust or deeper feeling...
what am I missing?

The first pair of open shutters he saw and Fenris dived through. He landed in a kitchen filled with the smell of baking bread, and a human woman screamed as he rolled to his feet. No doubt the sight of an elf in skintight armor, carrying a blade almost as large as himself, wasn’t a welcome sight. He got to his feet and noticed the surprisingly comely woman, dressed in a nightgown that revealed more of her cleavage than she no doubt expected, pressing against the wall.

He grinned at her, and she screamed again.

~dusts off rhetorical analysis skills~

Fenris leaped through the window, "carrying a blade almost as large as himself." Meaning his sword is out and at the ready -- he's fully armed and armored. He's looking rather threatening and menacing to the two women here. One of them is pretty and happens to be wearing very little.

However, he doesn't ogle her, he grins at her. Someone carrying a sword and grinning isn't going to be all that hot, just menacing. But he apparently thinks he's showing his appreciation.

He is not lighthearted here, or flirtatious, but it's written as if he's trying to be since the woman is "wearing a nightgown that revealed more of her cleavage than she no doubt expected, pressing against the wall." She's standing in a traditional bodice ripper heroine position here, one writers of the genre like to stick women in to show their sexual naivete for the hero to educate/take advantage of.

He's stopping in the middle of running for his life to take note of a pretty, scantily clad girl.  Show's a rather rakish side to him, IMHO.

Your missing the connection he has with Isabela. That he respects her and admires her for freeing those slaves and putting her arse on the line for them.

It's a starting point. Isabela herself isn't one to trust anyone or get close to anyone. I think their "relationship" as it is can bloom from Isabela's courting of Fenris (to which he is not resilient unless romanced) to a real relationship.

Isabela in a sense was a slave herself - locked into a life with a husband whom she despised and who treated her rather badly (he didn't beat me or anything...). Then her sense of individuality and freedom. She represents freedom in all its aspects -- free with her affections, always doing what she wants. I think Fenris would be receptive of that kind of personality. While it may start as harmless flirtations I think with enough wine and persuasion even Fenris wouldn't say no to Izzy. I think they have a lot in common, and in the end could find a solid foundation to build a real "love" on after a while. That is, of course, if they can get over their resistance to trust people, LOL.

Now that we know what he thought was in the chest, I wonder how things might've changed if there had been information in there?

I can easily think of at least one simple answer for that: genetics! People don't always have the same hair colour or eye colour or face shape or whatnot as their siblings. Visual diversity can easily exist within families. If you can't accept that and want another reason, then, well, they could easily have different fathers, with more than one possible reason for that: slave breeding, the older one's father died and their mother took up with another man, etc.

Yes, precisely.  Fenris talks to her about the slave-freeing thing twice, once in the base game, once in Legacy; it's clear that the story intrigues and interests him.  I imagine he's drawn to Isabela for much the same reasons he's drawn to Hawke: Fereldans are independant, proud people, and Hawke grew up in Ferelden, absorbed their culture and their attitudes.    Hawke is a free, proud, independant individual (going with the canon personalities presented; your imagined Hawkes may vary, I suppose), and so is Isabela.  Fenris clearly has a type. ;)

it was just one woman but regardless, I guess it depends on how one interprets the 'grin'... when I read the story I image it as an evil smirk, like he's amused himself for scaring a shem so badly she doesn't even realize how exposed she is and not so much of an appreciation of her heaving bosom. Ahh interpretation...

I apprecaite you taking the time to discuss with me!

Not a problem!  I was an English major.  Ask me to analyze a story and I'll give you a 20 page annotated dissertation.

I doubt it's anti-human feelings.  Fenris never shows them.  Like Zevran, he doesn't care.  His only real prejudice is against mages/magic.

OH MY GOD.

So Fenris, mid combat, just said "Nothing is ever easy."

and I think I just died.

Because its SO CLOSE to my favorite line, which is "Nothing easy is ever simple"

;x

And the Dalish. He dislikes the Dalish far more then he ever would humans. You can tell from his comments on Sundermount if you bring him along to fetch Merrill that he has a very very low opinion of them. Maybe not to the degree that he does mages/magic... but he does.
