Fenris never shows them.  Like Zevran, he doesn't care.  His only real

And the Dalish. He dislikes the Dalish far more then he ever would humans. You can tell from his comments on Sundermount if you bring him along to fetch Merrill that he has a very very low opinion of them. Maybe not to the degree that he does mages/magic... but he does.

That's true.  He'd probably never use the word Shem, then.  Or even think badly about them.  You know, unless they're mages.

So, after a lot of thinking, I think I'm going to have another go at romancing Fenris and *not* switching over to Anders in Act 2. I think the problem that I had on my last attempt was that I was trying to come up with a character that would never in a million years even remotely consider Anders attractive. As a result, I wound up with a character I loathed. Seriously. I hate that Hawke with a fiery passion. I was trying to go the friendship route with Fenris, since I've heard so many people say that if you have trouble appreciating the Fenris romance, friendship is much better than rivalry. The only problem was that I can't really do "mage-hater" and not despise that Hawke. At least that's what I found on my attempts to rivalmance Anders. And that's the reason I detest the Hawke I reserved for friendmanced Fenris. The mage thing was a big deal.

So, I'm thinking that if I do an aggressive/direct Mage!Hawke, I may not run up against the self-loathing that ruined previous attempts, but that the new Hawke may find Anders too emotional to want to get involved with. This would be a Fenris rivalmance, but it might work.

I know when you rival Anders, you pretty much have to destroy him in the process. Do you have to do that if you want to rivalmance Fenris?

The rivalmance is a lot more passionate with some anger and raised eyebrows. However, it does not break Fenris and actually ends up well for him. He realizes the limitations of his hate, he just basically sees Hawke as naive about magic and mages. He sees Hawke as reckless with their affections and leniency with mages and that one day "you will realize that not all mages are worth saving."

It's a good thing, albeit a bit more *dramatic* than the friendmance but it does not break Fenris in any way. An aggressive mage is perfect.. one who sticks to their beliefs and doesn't give a flying fig about killing or what people think of him/her. Been there.. loved it. I didn't loathe any of my Hawke's though. I loved my aggro Hawke.

@Sialater...I always loved Fenris' lips, and that picture is definitely doing them justice!

@bereline - I too had a Hawke I loathed - but I deleted her off my hard drive :) As for the rivalmance with Fenris, I agree with Arquen. It's a little more "heated' but definitely worth it!

I love Rivalmance. Unlike the Anders-breaking of the Anders-rivalmance, the Rivalmance for Fenris is about him realizing that Pro-Mage Hawke is in need of a voice of reason.

I'd like to think that THIS (shameless self promotion) bit of Fenris-thoughts about my pro-mage-mage Hawke that I wrote sums up how he feels at the end of a Rivalmance

Not that he particularly liked Templars. No. While they were necessary, that didn't mean he approved of their actions. Not anymore. Not when he had so very much to lose to them. It was one of the few truths to a life lived when one loved a mage. Especially a mage like Angel Hawke.

If he were honest with himself, and he usually was to a fault, there probably could be no life to be lead, with her or anyone else. There were two sets of armies hunting them now. There would have only been one, but she had refused to execute that ****ing abomination. That meant that his one time friend, Sebastian, was now gunning for them with his reclaimed army from Starkhaven. Not to mention that the Chantry's Seekers were leaving no stone unturned for them.

It didn't matter, because she had shown him that there were some things worth fighting for. While he didn't believe in her particular cause, he did believe in her. So, he would fight for her. He'd fight until he died, and then, Maker willing, he'd get up and keep right on fighting. He'd never leave her alone again.

DG has a way of portraying men that are masculine and strong without being psycho male (well Fenris gets a little psycho but...). Both Nathaniel and Fenris come across as being very intellectually intelligent while Alistair is very emotionally intelligent (and smart too).  Fenris didn't interest me much utnil he spoke to the Arishok in his own language and I thought to myself "There's a brain behind all that broodiness."  I like smart guys.

Well put.  I also like the way in Awakening Nathaniel is trying to figure out the mess his father left behind, but he's still polite, intelligent and doing it with dignity.  He wasn't prepared to throw everything away because of mistakes his family made.  Plus some of his banter is super funny.

And Fenris, well....*swoon, drool, fans self" all at once*!

So uh... I felt like popping in to say hello to my (now) fellow Fengirls.

I used to hate Fenris. A lot. Which is odd, considering that when I first started following DA2 stuff before it came out, I decided that I was going to romance him. But when I met him, and heard him talk about mages, I got an inexplicable hate for him. I'm ashamed to say I let Dararius take him on my first play through. I was all about Anders, too.

But recently, I decided to try something different and be friends with Fenris.
And then he totally ninja'd me and had my Hawke romance him and holy crap what the hell have I been missing why did I not do this sooner.
Andrastae's ass, that decision completely made my head canon do a 180. It was tough getting on his good side- I'm pro mage through and through, and he wasn't fond of me prancing around and helping Merrill. But it was worth it.

The fact that he's so surprised that Hawke wants to be his friend, and nggg that face when you tell him that he's not alone, that he has Hawke sdjhgasdgahdaghaaa Fenris wry u turn me into gibbering idiot.

Anyway, to wrap up this little ramble, I'm a Fenris convert for life. (Also, woe-ing over the bugged romance dialogue in Legacy.)

Greetings to a Fenris Convert from a Garrus Conver t! (oh who am I kidding I knew I'd love that romance)!

"What did Fenris think was in the chest?"

Information on his family. He didn't really think it was true, and was all but certain it was just a way to lure him into the open, but he couldn't ignore it.

"Did Fenris know about the ritual? Or just the boon?"

Just the boon. Even if he'd known about what was going to be done to him, he wouldn't have known what that meant.

YES! Thank you! :)

Hasn't it been said that even Fenris doesn't fully understand the extent of his markings' power? That's a scary/cool concept.

Just finished watching the current season of True Blood... OMG SO MANY EMOTIONS!

I started out thinking I would not like Nathaniel one bit since he was a Howe and hated my guts and all. However, throughout the course of Awakenings I really fell in love with his character. His personality, his humor, his banters. I loved him. I also am a to the core Alistair fan. I love that bastard prince so much you don't even know, LOL.

Then Fenris comes along and I just click with him. I relate with him so well. I was drawn to his character like a moth to flame, LOL. I don't know he just represents that kind of anti-hero personality that I just love.

Though as I've said before... Alistair totally is a gateway drug..

Exactly!  Nathaniel is just a classy guy through and through. His humor, what there is of it, is very dry.  And Fenris is steadfast, both in his beliefs and in his love and loyalty to the PC. Alistair is much stronger and smarter  than he gives himself credit for being, and it's his self-deprecating humor that I adore.   The three characters represent things that I very much admire in men.

Thanks for the advice, Arquen and Heiden!Posted Image I was hoping that romanced rival Fenris would maybe admit that he was wrong, but I can probably live with it if he doesn't. After all, the Hawke I'm planning on rolling sure as hells won't! Never admit defeat, no compromises, etc. Playthrough will probably be slow because I'm still working on my Anders fic, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to live with this character, as opposed to poor Rowan, the mage-hater.
No worries about the drama! After all, I'm still and will probably always be Anders romance fan, and you don't get much more drama than that. I'm just thinking that it is possible to learn to appreciate different things. Hey, I didn't like beer the first few times I tried it, either. I still prefer wine, but when you're eating fish 'n' chips, beer just works better.

My last Hawke was a mage because I thought it would finally free me up to romance Anders.  Fenris hates mages I thought; thus he won't like my Hawke and I can *finally* see what all of the fuss was about with the Anders romance.  Sure enough, when he meets my mage I get the -10.

However, I still wanted to have a freindship with him.  So I meta-gamed a little (although would any Hawke take a companion they wanted to remain friends with on a mission they know they're going to hate?) and Fenris was soon friendly with my sarcastic (usually) mage.  It was hard when I saw that little Posted Image pop up to start the romance with Fenris not to click it.  (and he give's you a second shot...must not click heart).

As long as you hate slavers -and demons -(which all my Hawke's do) I don't think a friendmance would be difficult.  For example, I still took Fenris on the Wayward son quest and I told Feynriel to go to the Dalish.

As a matter of fact, now that I've played a mage (I usually play rogue Posted Image) I'm planing on romancing Fenris with my mage.

I've never rivaled Fenris though so I can't really say it *isn't* better.  (The only character I routinely rival is Merrill).

(as a side note: I actually did enjoy the Anders romance.  It was difficult -especially because I knew how much fun romancing Fenris was - but it was worth it).

Also not that it matters but you can friendmance Fenris with promage Hawkes. It just takes some micro managing of quests. I love the friendmance because I hate being snarled at, not that it changes drastically when you are a mage.

Man I just went back to my rivalmance with a mage and I forgot how I was trying to rival everyone. Too fun, poor Malcolm jr.
