To sum up everything I read in the last 3 pages: I have never played with an aggressive Hawke (I've always been 95% Diplomatic, 3% humorous and 2% aggressive (only with certain enemies that I just could NOT stand, such as Danarius). I don't know why I keep sticking to the sweet and diplomatic Hawke, even three playthroughs later. I think it's because I tend to choose things that I would personally say were I in Hawke's shoes. But I HAVE to change that and try an aggressive Hawke and a rivalmance with Fenris. It's always been a friendship romance, and that is completely sweet and loving, but I keep reading and hearing that the rivalmance is much more... satisfying, in some way... Hmm... is it?

Information on his family. He didn't really think it was true, and was all but certain it was just a way to lure him into the open, but he couldn't ignore it.
"Did Fenris know about the ritual? Or just the boon?"
Just the boon. Even if he'd known about what was going to be done to him, he wouldn't have known what that meant.

Oh my God.
That's it, I'm getting rid of the phone, never going to family functions, and laying down my writing tools. Because whenever those three things pop up in my life, I miss the Grand Poobah.
Thank you for the info, though, great, ultimate Grand Poobah. My day is so happy and rainy and full of thunder and lightning (a good thing-- I abhor the blasted sun because it's so boring).

Oh, and I remember why I really wanted to post!
I've been listening to a song called "Tell-Tale Eyes" by a band called Leaves' Eyes. Oddly enough, I kind of find it highly appropriate for romance (in general) for Fenris (I can find ways to translate it to both rivalmance, which is the blantant, obvious one, and the friendmance, which I thought of backhandedly).
I wish I had a PC version of DA2 now, simply to make a video to that damn song.

LoL, it's actually rather subjective. Some people prefer the rivalmance some (like me) prefer the friendmance. My personal favorite is the friendmance mage Hawke. I love the dynamic. No, you don't have to be super anti-mage kill Feynriel or send everyone to the circle person. He is very content if you are anti-slaver and just "cautious" about mages. I sent Feynriel to Tevinter. I helped mages. I helped and befriended Anders. There are certain quests you might not take Fenris on in a friendmance PT if you want to help mages, but it isn't as difficult as people make it out to be. I suppose Heiden needs to hurry up with a friendmance guide, LOL.
It took me a long time before I even attempted the rivalmance. I didn't like the drama, the cursing, the seeming unhappiness that Fenris seems to have at times with you. However, upon reflection and analysis and actually doing the rivalmance I found I enjoyed it quite a bit. I love "Festis bei umo canavarum!" I love teasing and trolling Fenris and yet being there for him and him being there for Hawke. He isn't broken, he doesn't waiver on his views, he just wants to protect you and try to have you understand his point of view. He will side with you either way, but he always thinks "it is a mistake." He is steadfast like that.. his hate runs deep and he ISN'T going to forgive magic or magisters ... ever. That being said.. what he has with Hawke is something unique and he trusts Hawke moreso than he does anyone or anything. He can put his personal feelings and hatred aside because he trusts Hawke to do the right thing.
There is a banter where Hawke says "it's the right thing to do," and Fenris goes "i'll take your word on that.." -- He will follow you into the void itself because of his loyalty and trust. Yet it is hard won and there are always things about him that are not going to change.

I'm am just like you. Arquen; I prefer the friendmance. I've seen a few clips of the rivalmance scenes on youtube, and to be honest, such a romance isn't really to my taste. I'm not a "hate that I love you" kinda person, and neither is my Hawke. I think I'll stick to a friendmance, but at the same time, start using a lot more of the aggressive lines with Fenris. For experimentation's sake, if nothing else

Nah, not really. Mother's side is... I don't get along with them for reasons that are stupid and don't need to be brought up, and I see my Father's side often enough that it'd be a good break. And no, I don't call them "my family" in general, because the last time my Mother's side of the family and my Father's side of the family were in the same room, they would start fighting until my Father's side got sick of them, and they got up and went into a different room.

We've been storming off and on here for the past few days.

Ah, Nevada person understands how retarded California (desert part, mind you) person feels. Ten minutes, pouring down rain, thunder, and lightning, and then it's GONE and I'm crying. Exception to a few years back where it snowed a couple of feet and people were going: "Ohmigosh, snowsnowsnowsnowsnow!"

One of my favorite PT was my straight up snark warrior. I had THE most fun on her. She was completely sarcastic, but she was so broken inside. She lost her whole family, lost Isabela, sided with the Templars, and killed Anders. All the while her only defense mechanism was her sarcastic humor carefully guarding her rage. Her and Fenris got on well because they understood that kind of deep seated rage and hate that comes with losing everything you ever cared about and what made you... you.

diplo Hawke is my least favorite. She has nothing in common with me and I despise her a little, LOL. I much prefer sarcastic/aggressive Hawke. It fits my personality a bit better. I do have 2 diplo Hawkes though. One is my male archer the other is my first female mage. She is so sweet and innocent it gave me cavities. Always trying to do the right thing and say the right thing. Never step on anyone's toes... the poor sap, LOL.

Wow... that's really... deep. I'm impressed, truly! Its funny that you say that, because I myself am an INCREDIBLY sarcastic person, yet for some reason, in certain more serious situations in the game, I find it very difficult to choose a sarcastic or aggressive option, such as after Fenris' "Alone" and "A Bitter Pill" quests. I just find it impertinent and a bit insensitive, so I go along the safe way: Diplo.
But I completely know where you're coming from: there is something so deep, inspiring and moving about a broken Hawke, a vulnerable Hawke, who uses her wit and humour to survive and carry on in an otherwise harsh and unbearable world. And, like you said, Fenris is very much like that himself, which would make their relationship all the more valuable, since they both understand each other completely.
Seriously, you have completely changed my mind about my diplo Hawkes! I am definitely opting for the more sarcastic/aggressive Hawke in the future.
Alistair is also quite that way as well, when you really think about it. He had such a difficult childhood, hated by the Arlessa, without a family, alone, and thrown into a profession he despised (Templar). Yet, he disguises all that pain, hardship and vulnerability with his wit and humour, which is really what drew me to him in the first place (apart from that sinfully sexy voice and angelic face

My aggro Hawke just tended to roll her eyes and go "Okay, this again.. really... alright get it all out Fenris" -- The sarcastic line after a bitter pill is priceless.. "another successful negotiation Fenris..." I seriously die laughing at these lines. I do.

LOL, I didn't mean to completely change your ways or anything. I find that Fenris reacts well to the sarcastic/aggro Hawke lines. Sometimes better than he does to the diplo lines. In sensitive situations Fenris prefers no comforts, no pity. I can go sarcastic/aggro because he doesn't want that mushy "I'm here for you, comfort you.." crap. Also, your Hawke is not a goddamn doormat for him to just vent his anger at. He knows it's wrong. You know it's wrong. He owes you an apology. You owe him a snarky/aggro remark or two. Calling him out on his rage actually makes him better for it. He stops himself and realizes what he is doing. A diplo Hawke seems to peeve him off more. He seems to think them more patronizing.

But I appreciate that you've changed my mind! I seriously thought that I would get +10000 Rivalry points and countless scolding and yelling bouts if I went down the aggressive/sarcastic route. Simply put, I was a coward:P I was constantly worried about making sure that I pleased Fenris and didn't add to his anger, and I thought that would be best done by going down the diplo way. I know that works with Anders; mostly, he gets REALLY angry at me if I try to be sarcastic or aggressive. He doesn't take it well. Neither does Varric, and I think Aveline as well. Oh, and DEFINITELY Merrill. But, I guess Fenris is different, and I shouldn't be surprised. He's truly one of a kind!

but really great guys - Alistair and Fenris. He's a fantastic writer as
far as I am concerned. Did he write Nathaniel? Because if he did, he
pretty much hits it out of the park for me.[/quote]
Thank you-- and, yes, I also wrote Nathaniel.

Wooooo! Good to know! The other question I still want to ask is about his animations possibly being glitched for the rivalmance wall mackin', but that one bothers me far less then the box ever wiil, and now I know and am content.

I'm inclined to think it is a glitchy thing. Like how sometimes in cutscenes there is like this *snip* where it looks like there should be an animation but it just doesn't play.
I was simply content that my 2 most burning questions finally have an answer.
I still would like to know a couple of things, but alas:
If Fenris would ever be able to get past his magic/mage hatred or is it something that will always be a part of him?
If Varania really did have such a horrible life and is being spiteful towards him and consciously betrayed him or if she really did have no choice.
If Fenris might be able to recover his memories in time or is it something that happened once with Hawke and now it's gone forever? Does it happen every time they are together?
Also on the memories -- Were his memories wiped with trauma or magic or a mix of both?
Ahh... so many questions.. I could do a freakin panel on these things I've questioned, LOL.
