No wonder I liked him rivalmancing with my manhawke, huh.

@Fleshdress: I don't know if you ever knew but Anders is the only one to ever say anything like what you described. I also don't see the problem in labeling Fenris as bisexual -- if you start flirting with him as mHawke but then move onto either Merrill or Anders, he could potentially sleep with Isabela later on. He likes both sexes, so what?

Bisexual tends to lean more on being attracted to the physical appearence of both genders, from what I have seen which could indeed be plausible for all characters. I prefer Pansexual for Fenris because I honestly don't think outward appearence phases him at all, I think if you looked like Danarius but acted like Hawke he would still love you. I mean above and beyond the fact that no character can be fazed by what a custoom Hawke looks like, if they could be, I don't think Fenris would be. Didn't get the first part, Anders alludes to what part of my post? I have never done a romance with a male for Anders so I am probably missing something.

I have changed my opinion for DA2 or maybe DA2 changed my opinion for me. The chances of recruiting bisexual people in this day and age is much higher because there is a greater amount of people saying "Hey, liking someone in your own gender won't mean you go to hell." And it is my personal opinion that humans are creatures of pleasure, we seek it out in many forms, I think if it wasn't being drilled into us through media, home life and whatever else they use these days that being gay is apparently wrong there would be no such thing as sexuality, there would just be sex. Back in Dragon Age era we see absolutly no dialogue that supports the chantry being drawn to any sexuality, we don't see parents dissaproval when they *wink wink nudge nudge* toward any LI. There is absolutly no reason for any person in the Dragon Age world to feel like their supposed to be drawn to a specific gender. Except for a Male Hawke who could say "Was it too strange, being with a man? Which I thought was a weird thing to say, still Fenris brushes it off as "Of crourse not". But maybe that works too because back in a day where breeding and carrying the family name are paramount to even love I bet gay relationships are... rare maybe, not the word I want but it will have to do for now.  Of course they all probably have a prefered gender, but I don't think anyone back then would turn down a tumble with a strong, important hottie just because the plumbing is different.

I see Fenris as the last person to ever judge a sexual partner on their appearence, he wants what the personality offers, he... lost my train of thought. Uhg, hate that. wrap it up, Fenris isn't bi, I see him more as pansexual, able to see past the gender of a person or looks period and draw his love for that person from what he sees in their personality.

See, I don't get this complicated. I just think that so far, from what we've seen, elves tend toward bisexuality. It seems to be the dominant sexuality in their race or species or whatever you call it. And I think that's cool. It makes sense, when you consider their history: a race of people who are functionally immortal (or at least ageless) has far less reason for biology to heavily value heterosexual pairings, and, in fact, non-reproducing couples would increase rather than decrease population stability.

I do think we need to move away from the idea that a lot of people who argue for bi LIs repeatedly put forward: the idea that bisexual people are somehow inherently less judgmental because they don't discriminate based on gender, or whatever. It tends to be offputting to people who are straight, because they know that they're not consciously discriminating themselves (in most cases).

To put it more neatly: Fenris doesn't like boys and girls both because he decided not to judge people based on their gender. He likes boys and girls both because that's how he was born: he was born as a kind of person who had potential for attraction to both genders. It is neither an indication of a strong personal decision not to discriminate, nor a flaw of some kind. It's just a thing about him.

Watch the following video about Anders's opinion on love.

And isn't that the case for all LIs anyway? There is no "ugly" flag that will bar romances from happening.

Thats what I meant by saying above and beyond the game mechanics.

CCG: This is why I hate my wordy post what makes sense in my head doesn't always make sense on paper.

As a bisexual person I agree that being bi doesn't make you less judgmental, I have extremely high if not a little shallow views for how a person I am attracted to should look like, but thats why I call myself bi and not pansexual, because I am judgmental, I can't see past a physical attraction and look for an emotional one. I just think Fenris would be different and not judge people by their looks, age, gender, race... he, to me, is the definition of a pansexual person. Isabela is Bi, we already know she'll turn down someone she isn't physically attracted to, I think Anders does as well, but Merrill and Fenris I... I don't know, I have no evidence other then a lack of evidence supporting the other way, so it's just my opinion.

The fact that they all will fall in love with any kind of Hawke kind of destroys that logic.  I'm not sure how only Fenris seems to break the mold when it comes to an emotional attraction.  There is nothing in the game that suggests otherwise.  I guess you could read into it all you want, but the fact of the matter is that he doesn't show any special sort of characterisitic different from the other LIs.  Only Anders will mention something close to pansexuality with a male Hawke.

I think you're putting him on a pedastal that he doesn't necessarily belong on, or if you are going to put him there, the others could be placed there as well.

I already put Merrill and Fenris on the pedastal then, and though I can't find it with Anders The Emile quest shows Isabela say she won't sleep with Emile because he's revolting. I had the impression that you could offer Emile Anders as well but who knows, I guess the only one who has to stay off my pedestal is Izzy.

It's okay Isabela, I still love you second best.

I don't think Fenris would sleep with him either.  He IS revolting.  He's pathetic -- someone that Izzy wouldn't give a second chance to.  Are you trying to say that Fenris would sleep with Emile if he was asked to?

Can you really blame her, though?  I mean, standards are a good thing, in most cases.

 Funny that Emille comes up.

Most of my Hawkes wouldn't ask anyone to do something she isn't willing to do herself if she's expected to lead (particularly canon Hawke). Hence...no one else has to touch Emille with a 10-foot pole either. *evil grin* It won't even come up.

I wish I had a better "Screenshot" of Aniya than my avatar, but that's canon Hawke. Darn XBox.

As far as Fenris's preferences - let's just put it this way. I have a friend  who is gay (actually several, but I am thinking of this specific one) and we inevitably wind up mooning over the same DA characters. (And yes, he's teased me over a very smexy photo of my hubby on vacation. ) . So, whatever the writers are doing, or specifically whatever Gaider is doing (since our shared interests are all Gaider characters) - he's doin' it right. Of course, said friend has been out of luck in Mass Effect thus far, but I think he may be a Garrus fan as well.

I think I really like the idea of elves perhaps tending towards being bi or even pan. (Honestly, Pansexual isn't something I'd ever heard of, but it sounds like an incredibly cool way of living/loving, and honestly even a noble one. Personally, I am not that noble - I am definitely too biased to be anything but hetero. It makes a certain amount of sense, though, especially given the former immortality and possibly because at least some elves try to reproduce solely with elves because of the whole "half elves are humans" thing.

I do find it very, very interesting that the Word of Gaider is that Fenris was written with a male!Hawke in mind, especially given how many female fans he has. This is a good thing; I really like the idea of a hero-sexual character in general, and this is a great example of how well that can work.

@Arquen - I'm sorry to hear of your family emergency. I'll shoot you a PM - and good thoughts/prayers/whatever you prefer are headed your way.

Bah, stupid coffeeshop that blocks DA. *grumble* Can someone please pick up my slack and post some moar Fenris? ;)

No. :( We haven't seen Doc in weeks, mostly since the hurricane (Irene?) went up the coast. I think he is somewhere along the east coast though, and ... *worries*

I miss his Fen banters. Heck, I miss his banters full stop (regardless of characters). Heck, I miss Doc. If you're out there, Doc, please let us know you're OK.:?

I'm thinking about getting that Roxio game capture device... at least be able to share screen captures and save my favorite Fen moments even if can't use all the awesome mods PC users have access to.

Glad the stupid sexual discussion is over. Im sorry, but Im kinda like Fleshy in that this particular subject makes me roll my eyes, sigh loudly, and just want to move on. Mostly because everyone tends to think something personal based on their own beliefs and others get offended and most do not budge at all.

Blah... thanks for the good wishes haven't slept in 23+ hours.

I'd disagree with this definition of bisexuality. Clinically, as well as in my experience, it means that someone is (roughly) equally likely to be attracted to a male as they are to a female.

For Fenris, I really think that gender is much less important than whether or not the person he's attracted to is a mage. He's had horrible experiences with both male and female mages, Unfortunately, the limitations of the game mean that there just wasn't time to write the romance arc with specific dialogue for mage!Hawkes, so we have to extrapolate a lot.

Ahhh, Bioware (and David Gaider, for that matter). Only your games can spark a debate about a character's sexuality that spans nearly 3 pages. LOVE it!

Sexuality issues aside, all I know is this: Fenris is the most perfect fictional character that I have ever had the fortune to "meet", whether he is gay/bi/pan/straight, and I'm sure you all will agree with me^_^

Hope you're okay Arquen, and that you eventually get some sleep.

Hmmm, what haven't we talked to death about Fenris?

Leto? No, done that. Relationship with Danarius? No, no done that and really prefer to not go back. Varania? Bah, no.

Hey does DG's comment on no longer having Danarius around to maintain the lyrium mean my favourite brooder is going to go crazy? Or can my mage Hawkes take over for that? What does "maintain" mean exactly? Awww now I want to read a story with a River!Fenris or a Druscilla!Fenris. All riddles and general crazy.
