Seriously, I'm going to have to write an essay about Isabella, and how she's the perfect example of a sex-positive female character whose sexiness isn't played soley for male enjoyment... of a realistic female character who is also incredibly sexy. (If you want to know why I'm on about female characters who are sexy not sexist, see this for an explanation of a small part of the DCnU Reboot controversy) 

I never find Izzy threatening because it's clear Fenris would pick Hawke first, if he could. I actually feel bad when I romance Isabella, because then poor Fen is all alone. I always headcanon that we take him with us in the end.

And that pic is just so cute, and such a perfect illustration of her personality and their dynamic. Careful careful, boys.

Ohhh so much pretty! Lol at Zevris - that is so not a common pairing, but it totally is one that makes you go "oh,... nice. I think I had a dream like that once..." lmao.

As for my fenspressions... thank you all! Honestly im trying to practice and his nose and proportions is what kills me. I redraw that nose and jawline like 50 times. I can't do it without obsessively studying a screenshot. Trying to memorize every line and block off proportions in my mind. Also, noticed he has this cute little crinkle above his nose. I was like "Ohhh didn't notice that before... dawwww." One day I hope to draw him without a reference, but I doubt it, lol.

If you do an essay on izzy I would read it cgg! Though you might want to not misspell Isabela

It took me a while to get to like izzy, but now I love her. She isn't so selfish and slattern as people think. "You have to be twice as strong to get half as much respect..." is practically her motto. She's a great character and Fenris could be happy with her. Though he will always be my Hawke's LI in my head. Just as screenshots and fanart of other Hawkes doesn't bother me, neither does izzy and fenris.

Plus omg you guys disney dragon age killed me!

"A whole new world..." for Fenris and "never had a friend like me" for Varric. Ohhh so many... curse you disney! And I can totally still quote the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, and the lion king *facepalm* sad revelations...

Is it totally sad I can imagine Bloodmage Hawke bopping around to "He lives in you" Lion King 2 (possibly the only sequel I like) with Carver during Legacy? And Fenris/Hawke seranading eachother with "Love Will Find a Way". No that I can see either of them singing, but it's Disney! Everyone must sing. And no, I will never let this go. I may start a thread for it. Plus I may have had a fairly good giggle over imagining Fenris sing "I'm like a shooting star, I've come so far." and Varric hits the floor with laughter. I imagine the whole thing goes down like Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling" and Fenris like Spike, "Oh please don't anyone come over in case I start to sing!"

Isabela is my canon threesome. If I romance her I do it with the head canon that they will invite Fenris to join, and then they all leave on a ship together, forever. and Zevran eventually joins (with or without my warden) and... okay to be realistic I obviously just want to see all my fave characters have a tumble or ten.

And Isabela is practically already Megara. I mean come on! So she gets "I won't say I'm in love." and it's so easy to replace Herc with Hawke in Zero to Hero.

I can totally see Velanna breaking into Colors of the Wind. Especially the bit at the beginning where she's basically calling you an ignorant jerk. Ok, maybe it's slightly more in character for Mahariel, but Velanna doing it is funnier.

Ugh, now I'm replaying the entire Disney catalog in my head. I was supposed to be asleep!

Well... now, I'm watching a clip of "Good company" from Oliver, picturing Ser Pounce, and tearing up.

Thanks you Solona(holy hell my phone auto-corrected that to spoons and I giggled)-- I've become an obsessive perfectionist always seeking that "perfect" way to draw Fenris. Those sketches took me hours. Other artist would take minutes, lol.

I'm guessing you're overlooking her physical appearance for that statement?

Because that's definitely been redesigned for male enjoyment rather than any sort of practicality.

That being said, this solely applies to her physical appearance, not her personality.

Again, nothing much to contribute in terms of conversation, other than that I really don't like Isabela, but I don't mind her being with Fenris. I kind of hate the thought of Fenris being alone more. I feel bad for him when I send Isabela away and then romance Anders. Reloading becomes very tempting. D:

I actually think her appearance perfectly suits her personality, and I don't think it's more designed for male enjoyment than Merrill's is. They're both archetypes in a sense,  both were made to look appealing to some players. Male or female, I might add, since practically everyone I know who loves Isabela is a woman.

I guess I was thinking more about the fact that, in DAO, she didn't have a massive cleavage and no pants: they redesigned her to add that, and it so happens that it makes her more visually appealing to males (some females as well, but the original post only mentioned males, so I'm sticking to that). You can probably blame it on the fact that they used a generic human female body model for her in DAO, but still. The "no pants" bit is just overkill, IMO. I don't think she needed such a huge wardrobe overhaul to be sexy, even with her personality being what it is. 

Also, I do think that her appearance ticks a lot more boxes on the traditional "hot babe" checklist than Merrill's. "Big boobs + curves + lots of leg" is also a stereotype of attractiveness that's usually expressed by men. Besides, do those women you mention who love Isabela love her personality, or are they also physically attracted to her?

I find her physically attractive, even if I don't like her personality, but it's somehow cheapened by the fact that, to me, she's clearly been redesigned specifically to be attractive. Something along the lines of "oh well, of course, I'm going to find that hot". It's almost like...there's no merit in me finding her attractive, in a sense. And it does also have to do with the fact that she fits a traditionally male image of attractiveness.

Beyond that point, however, the discussion dips into to what extent female perception of another female's attractiveness has been conditioned by the predominant male perception of a female's attractiveness...and that's probably a bit too OT.

The only thing that ever bothered me about Isabela was... the no pants thing.  It's a little strange. But most of the armor in DA isn't practical anyways.  She is meant to be attractive but so are the other NPCs!  All the romanceable NPCs are all attractive in one way or the other.   Sometimes I can connect to Isabela a little when I hear all the negative things said about her bust size.  And how she couldn't do this or that because of her chest, well as someone with a larger chest I will say... yes you can. I run on average 30 miles a week, lift weights and have been involved with martial arts most of my life.  And guess what my chest doesn't hold me back:lol:.   Most of my negative experiences dealing with a fuller bust have involved other women pre-judging me.   Men and some women will always find something to look at.  

Now, not liking her personality or being angry with her for the stealing the relic, and not telling your Hawke the truth I can understand. 

And when Fenris is not in a romance with my Hawke then I would like to think he and Isabela could find some happiness together (whether temporary or permanent).  Fenris deserves it.

Though, if we're just counting all animated movies now, then "Once upon a December" is Leandra, back when she was first running around with Malcolm, before they fled Kirkwall.

My brain is fried from work, and I'm reading posts about Isabela, and I had to double check to make sure I was in the right thread, LOL.

I think it's nice that Fenris and Isabela get together if not romanced. I also think it is nice how when Fenris is romanced he immediately tells her to "keep [her] distance." It's funny -- with Alistair I totally did the threesome thing with Isabela and my Warden, but with Fenris I just don't see it happening. I don't see him as the "sharing" type. Honestly I found that the Alistair romance was a lot more open. He could sleep with Isabela (with you there of course). He could sleep with Morrigan (the ritual - perhaps not enjoyable). He can sleep with Anora (the whole heir thing). I found it to be very open with the sex thing, and yet my Warden and Alistair (in my headcanon) loved each other very much and understood that having sex with someone else didn't mean they loved you any less. Especially Anora and Morrigan (duty much?)

Yet the Fenris romance sex is so connected to emotion I just don't ever see it as being that open. Then he can be with Isabela and you know if they have a relationship Isabela would want to experiment and be more open as that is her way. However, I find it hard to believe that Fenris would get to this point with Hawke or Isabela. While he does show interest in more exotic things, LOL, he is a very protective and even jealous lover. This is seen in the fact that if you sleep with anyone else it breaks his romance, and with Zevran who he plainly tells off.

I guess my point is that I find his romance with Isabela to be on a completely different level while the romance with Hawke is very much an emotional and deep attachment. I hesitate to say that he will ever love Isabela, and I outright deny that he could love Isabela as deeply as Hawke. That isn't to say that it can't work out with Isabela, but there is undoubtedly a difference there. I still don't see him ever doing a threesome though. As loyal and protective as he is I just don't see it happening.

How Fenris might handle a relationship with Isabela aside... how would Isabela handle it? I think that she, like Fenris, won't get as attached as she would to Hawke, but could she still come to really love him? Or would it stay as her usual "just sex" thing like she has with everyone else?

There's a difference between impractical spiky gauntlets and almost mooning everyone on a regular basis. Are there any other pantsless characters in the game? I wouldn't even qualify her outfit as armour.

Just to make sure I didn't accidentally offend anyone, I wasn't trying to imply any relation between Isabela's combat aptitude and her breast size. I'm not criticizing her as a character because of her appearance either (my qualms in that department are solely related to her actual personality). It's specifically the fact that she's been redesigned that I'm addressing. The fact that they made her boobs larger (or, at least, more exposed) and took half her clothes off. None of the other returning characters underwent any similar changes, just some facial redesign. You could argue that it didn't fit their personality, but what is that saying about their perception of Isabela's personality? That she wasn't...naked enough for who she's supposed to be? She's also presented as a capable melee fighter in DAO, and wouldn't that also include wearing appropriate protection in combat? 

To recenter the discussion, all that is simply to say that Isabela's DA2 appearance weakens the case for her being represented as a sex-positive character who's not pandering to a male audience, IMO.

I agree there. I think it's possible that he may agree to freer practices if his relationship with Isabela stays casual, but if emotions come into play, he may have issues.

With Hawke, any such thing would probably be out of the question.

Yah I can only see the threesome working if Hawke is in a relationship with Isabela, and Fenris is the joiner. Otherewise Fenris is far to posessive. As a slave I think Fenris just never had anything he could call his own so when he gets together with Hawke I doubt he would risk interlopers. A Hawke with Isabela though, I think Fenris would find a place in that because he would feel like he gained two people, I just see it working. Oh whatever, I give up the ruse, I have no justifications on why it would work other then because I want ti to. No one can take my Iz/Hawke/Fen threesome away from me... no one! 

I love Izzys outfit, its her way of setting herself apart from and above all the more insecure females She loves her body and is proud of it, the saying "if you've got it, flaunt it" comes to mind. I love how she uses her sexualality as a weapon in words and looks, her whole vibe is: "You can look, I might even let you touch, but you can't have all this."

Unf, I just love Izzy so much, I am so glad she gets to hook up with Fen if I don't cause I think her freedom is exactly what what Fenris needs to learn.
