I have a fic question for the more veteran fanfic authors out there. Kinda. 

I am hating trying to write the Fenfic right now. I have huge chunks of it written @ key plot points (in my head at least), but linking it all together has completely writers' blocked me to the point where I'm considering doing a series of one-offs instead. Has anyone else done that? If so, did you find it feasable to do, or did it just seem disjointed?

Part of me is too perfectionistic and wants *all the things* in the story, even if I feel like I'm just writing filler for some of it. I'm afraid I will psych myself out of writing the fun stuff by agonizing over the 'connecting bits' that link together the companions, the major events, etc.)

And, I admit it - I'm finding myself getting a little distracted by Dat Shep and Dat Turian (writing wise), and Dat School, but school is the most demanding of my 3 distractions.

Aaaand Dat School demands more attention. *waves*

Yet the Fenris romance sex is so connected to emotion I just don't ever see it as being that open. Then he can be with Isabela and you know if they have a relationship Isabela would want to experiment and be more open as that is her way. However, I find it hard to believe that Fenris would get to this point with Hawke or Isabela. While he does show interest in more exotic things, LOL, he is a very protective and even jealous lover. This is seen in the fact that if you sleep with anyone else it breaks his romance, and with Zevran who he plainly tells off.

I guess my point is that I find his romance with Isabela to be on a completely different level while the romance with Hawke is very much an emotional and deep attachment. I hesitate to say that he will ever love Isabela, and I outright deny that he could love Isabela as deeply as Hawke. That isn't to say that it can't work out with Isabela, but there is undoubtedly a difference there. I still don't see him ever doing a threesome though. As loyal and protective as he is I just don't see it happening.

I think you and I share a brain. Very, very well said. That is exactly the way I see it, every single bit that you mentioned.

Which, to be fair, she actually does if you are his LI. Isabela doesn't like to step on toes actually. She abandons you because she doesn't want to drag you into her problems, and she feels she deserves to "go it alone."

I do love shirtless Fenris. I was sadly going through DA yesterday trying to find *new* Fenris pics I haven't seen. Unfortunately, I think I have seen them all. Obsession Unhealthy flag goes off in my head and I quietly ignore it.

Was looking through my screenies of my Warden and my DA:O and DAA playthroughs. Made me so nostalgic for Alistair and Morrigan. Also, my Warden totally is an elf with white hair and green eyes *whistles innocently* Well, I have a Cousland too, but she is all dark hair, dark eyes and badassery. I was also seriously missing Nate and Anders from Awakening looking through my screenies.

Still, I wouldn't trade anything for Fenris. Out of all the characters it just amazes me how much I found myself loving this character. It isn't even like a rabid fangirling thing, but a "Wow, that character is so amazingly written, detailed, done.." thing.

I once had this conversation with friends about what DA characters thought were best like us. We asked each other who they thought we were, and then we said who we thought we were. I got a mix between Morrigan and Fenris. My boyfriend got 100% Alistair, LOL. My other friends were somewhere between Merrills, Alistair, Zevran, and a couple Isabela (inc my best friend, LOL).

It's a fun game, and I was extremely flattered to be the only Fenris and the only Morrigan. Then again I was like "So, basically you guys see me as some hardcore bi***?" and they are like "yeah, pretty much. You don't come off as 'nice.'" LMAO. Everyone should try this.

That's the first thing I thought when I first played DA2; just how absolutely brilliantly this character had been written. The amount of depth and thought  put into him is more than incresible. David Gaider truly is a genius.

I wonder who chooses the voice actors for each character. Is it the writers themselves? Like, did DG choose Gideon for the role of Fenris? Because I gotta tell you, I think quite a significant aspect that makes Fenris such an incredible character is his voice, and not just how incredibly sexy it is, but also the emotion and passion and pain it exudes. Gideon really played such an important part in bringing Fenris to life. I really hope DG is the one who chose him, because that just goes to show how much thought and effort DG puts into his characters. I wonder if Gideon's voice is the voice DG imagined for Fenris when writing him... I certainly can't imagine another voice that is so fitting and so... Fenris.

Ack, now you made me wonder.  
I'd probably get "an odd mixture of Fenris and Merrill".  with a little bit of Alistair, I think. And a touch of Shale.

I'm pretty sure it was DG who chose Gideon as VA for Fenris, but I'm not sure whether it was just by his suggestion or if he actually had the choice because he's the elf's writer.  Probably the latter.

Hmmm... judging myself personally, I think I'd get a mixture of Fenris and Alistair. Yeah, that sounds right. Though I think 90% would be Fenris (this is an honest, unbiased judgment; I'm not just saying that because I happen to adore the elf) and the 10% from Alistair would be his sense of humour, I think. That sarcastic kind of humour. Yeah.

"Like attracts like, it seems." -- I figure more people who would be drawn to Fenris would be like Fenris in some way or another. While people that hate him would be more a polar opposite from his personality and therefore have a harder time relating to him.

I actually found myself relating to and loving both Morrigan and Fenris a lot because they reminded me of myself. Then to have my friends say the same was very flattering especially because I hadn't shared that particular bit with anyone. I felt people would think it comes off as crazy obsessive and they would just roll their eyes going "of course she thinks that..." kind of thing. Yet, here I really don't give a damn if people think that or not, lol.

I am lucky I have at least 4 people I know in RL that have actually played both DA:O and DA2. They aren't as obsessed with the fandom as I am, but they did like the games, and the characters.

I found it hilarious that my boyfriend got Alistair.. from like.. everyone. I was like -- really? He's like Alistair and I'm like Morrigan/Fenris... hmmm. It made me totally think of Morristair and Fenris/Alistair ships. Also, no Anders in my little group. Was a bit sad that I don't know anyone who really fit that kind of personality. Was not surprised that my friend whom I love and cherish dearly, but who is totally a rival friendship was described as a Merrill. Seriously, it's a fun thinking/drinking game to be had.

I think Fenris has a fantastic sense of humor. It almost amazes me how he can sit there and deadpan a joke. People write him off as nothing but broody and angsty and just "whiny" type, but when you actually go through and listen to his banters and dialogue he is quite free with the humor and jokes. It is subtle, for certain, and doesn't often come with a smile or a laugh, but it is one of the things that intrigues me about him. It's so carelessly weaved into him that he just says things and you don't know if he is intentionally making a joke or if he just *IS* funny. This type of wit is my favorite, and I found myself cracking up so many times at Fenris' banters and dialogue because of it.

I completely agree, Arquen, about Fenris's sense of humor.  That kind of subtle, deadpan, intelligent humor appeals to me more than, say, slapstick or fart jokes.  Farts are still funny, but I do laugh harder at humor that twists language or takes a moment to fully catch on.

Hmmm, I think I may be a mixture of sarcasm and more sarcasm. My friends and family and boyfriend say I am so sarcastic, so often, that they never know when I am being serious anymore. So I am probably a mixture of Morrigan/Shale with Isabelas sexualness thrown in because, boundries? What are boundries, my favourite topic is sex. Hmm Maybe a bit of Merrill too cause I have foot in mouth disease.

I love people watching for what they would be in a gamer world. I would have to be a mage, or a victim, cause sneaky or strong are not my strength. My boyfriend would be a rogue, He is lithe and I have seen the guy scale building with a charming smile and a quip the whole way. I actually don't know anyone I think could handle being a warrior.

I don't remember the exact quote, but I suddenly remember that and totally could see Fenris as a prankster. In fact, I bet Leto was a prankster. I could see the prankster in him as well.  I love his sarcastic/humourous answers when you are "harsh" with him - like:
Hawke:  are you done complaining?
Fenris:  I am now.

Plus that line with Varric about the choreographing routines was so unexpected - I laughed out loud.  And of course then re-loaded my game to hear it again

And as for what's wrong with you - NOTHING!!  He's a great character and you must enjoy drawing him, so keep it up!  I don't even draw and I'm always looking up new Fenris pics!

So... back to my Fenris people.

I like how he responds to Isabela in that one "From what I gather, you like a lot of things."

He always tends to put Izzy in her place with the sex stuff. Borderline insulting at times, LOL. I get the feeling the open sexuality side of her is not what he is drawn to at all. Though again going back to the humor thing: he does respond well to sarcasm and jokes. Often times he just jokes back with Izzy. That whole "color of my underclothes" banter never came off to me as a flirt thing. It was more a "I'm sorry for pushing a subject your uncomfortable with so lets go back to something saucy since you always enjoy that kind of talk" thing.

I guess I don't have that primal jealousy instinct. I trust Fenris completely and don't feel the need to jump in when Isabela is being Isabela.

I'm with you Arquen.. I remember people getting hateful towards Kelly Chambers because she says nice things about the male LIs. To be honest I kind of like when other characters mention the things my own characters like about their LIs, my reaction is kind of "I know right!?" I guess I just feel secure in my status as player character, I know that Izzy isn't going to seduce Fenris away from my Hawke and Kelly isn't going to hit on Garrus... and hey they ARE awesome *shrug*

My favourite romances in DAO are Morrigan's (it's my favourite) and Zervan's.  And in DA2 my favourite is Fenris' by far.  I enjoy the growth that these romances experience.  Morrigan and Zervan impress me with how much they change (IMHO).  Alistair's romance is nice...a little young?...not sure how to describe it really.  It's nice but something is missing for me.  I have two female friends who played DAO and both loved Alistair and will only romance him.  My DH played and romanced Morrigan but he played so sparingly, he lost the thread of the plot  and would have to ask me what was going on.  I think it took him almost a year to finish.

Fenris' character growth impresses me whether I romance him or not.  He is re-defining himself.  And that isn't an easy process.  It's one of the reason I get the time gap (in his case) I just wish there was a more robust dialogue regarding his re-connecting with Hawke.  Fenris is a well written character and your right he does have a sense of humour, it's just a little dry which I like.

I kept thinking about Fenris' three years on the run. That time when he was developing his independent personality. He mentions how he "once" tried to hide his markings. How he "once" tried to fit in and hide among the elves of the alienage. I imagine those first few hours after he left Danarius and my mind starts racing at the possibilities.

I've always wanted to write or see this story -- that of Fenris breaking through the slave mentality and becoming the person Hawke meets. Not completely over it by any means, but he has more growth and has obviously learned a lot in his years on the run.

In my head I see him running from the fog warriors and just not stopping until physical exhaustion takes him. Then thinking -- now what? "I am.. was.. a slave.. now I'm.. what?"
