If Fenris is allergic to mages I'm going to be a sad, sad horse. :crying: Please don't break my heart, hothot magical warrior elf, pleeease?

You know, it's too bad that a non-dev didn't start this thread so that fan art could be relocatd and centralized on page 1...

I second that. But at least there's ankuu putting up all fan art on the first page. Yay for her! :wizard:

I could see something like this happening between mage!Hawke and Fenris

Hawke: So, you still want to be together even though I'm a mage?

Fenris: As I see it, somebody has to keep you out of trouble.

Hawke:
Its not my fault that trouble follows in my wake.

Fenris: It follows me around as well. And that's why I want to be together, you may wield power similar to my old master, but you are no monster, your someone who also knows what its like to live on the run,, in fear of being captured by those who hunt you. No matter how things work out, know that you will always have me.

Hawke: Thank you Fenris, that means a lot to me (pulls Fenris into a hug, the elf inhales sharply at first, and then breathes out with a genuine smile on his face)

It would be interesting if Fenris wouldn't romance a mage. I don't think I've ever seen class influence a romance in a BioWare game, only race.

I thought it would be interesting if a mage could only romance him on the rivalry path.

But I still have no idea how those kinds of romances will work in-game. A Slap Slap Kiss I suppose.

Also I can see this happening:

Isabela: So what's it like being with a mage? I bet all of that lyrium you have there makes things fun.

Fenris: Well, there is this strange tingling sensation when she's near me. (Hawke is shown with a big smile on her face)

Isabela: Oh, that sounds interesting, and then what.

Fenris: (deadpan serious) Then that tingling starts to feel like I've been submerged in a giant hornet's nest, you couldn't imagine the pain (Hawke has a WTF expression on her face)

Isabela: Alright then (turns to Hawke) Hawke, I've known some people who were into some pretty kinky things, but that right there is messed up, even to me. (Isabela walks off)

Hawke: That was quite the lie you told her my dear.

Fenris: It was the truth, the lyrium does tingle when your near me, and I like that, besides little miss pirate over there doesn't need to know everything that goes on between us.

Aww, jeez...

When I read this post it was on my phone while sitting in my car listening to the radio, and the song that just happened to be playing was Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. Hearing: "All that I am / All that I ever was / Is here in your perfect eyes / they're all I can see / I don't know where / Confused about how as well / Just know that these things will never change for us at all" while reading just tripled the d'awww factor for me. :D
And then while I was driving home, still with Fenris on the mind, my Zune shuffled to the achingly romantic song "All I Need" by Mat Kearney and I was d'awww-ing all over again. I'm all mushy tonight. Posted Image

Well Varric's thread seems to have sank into the abyss for now. Nice to see Fenris's still kicking.

Not hating, but a serious question. I've been wondering this since ElfQuest back in the day, but what is the attractiveness (not just in DA, but in other fantasy realms) about elves? I just never saw the attractiveness of elves, but would he be getting the same amount of love if he were human or dwarf? As an aside, yeah, Im on the Varric thread a lot, but see him more as a bro than anything else...I just don't get the bro vibe from Fen (I guess stoicism just doesnt appeal to me).

Again, the original question (elves overall, not Fen in particular) is meant more in earnest curiousity rather than to start a character X is better than character Y argument, so please focus on the former rather than the latter

There are characters who deliver a bro vibe (Oghren, Alistair) and those who do not (Sten, Zevran). Fenris may side with the no bros. Just my opinion.

I don't know about the attractiveness about elves in DA, but what I think is fascinating about the classical elves (Tolkien style) is that they are these eternal beings, wise and beautiful and perfect. It's aweinspiring to try to imagine how a life with no end would look like. At least for me. Whether or not others feel the same I have no idea.

Now Fenris and the elves in DA is another matter. Here I would say we feel maybe pity for them? That Fenris is not only a second class citizen by definition, but knows only what it is like to live as a slave makes him even more intriguing and pitiful (I mean this in a good way). Honestly, I want to hug him and make his pain go away. But it seems that would just result in the opposite... :?

For me... I guess I've always been kind of partial to elves ever since I fell in love with Movie!Legolas when I was about 13. And do I really have to explain why Legolas/Orlando Bloom was attractive? ^_^

It's just typical of the fantasy genre. Humans come in all varieties, elves are portrayed as pretty, and dwarves/gnomes/humanoids who live underground are less conventionally attractive and are hairy. DA has managed to subvert some of this, there are less attractive elves and appealing dwarves, some without beards.

To me, anyway, it doesn't particualrly matter that Fenris is an elf; if his personality is interesting, and he's not a mass murdering sociopath who eats babies, I'm going to like him.

Same with Varric. Did I notice he was a dwarf? Of course. Is what I know of his personality interesting? Absolutely (to me, anyway). Would I romance him? Without a doubt.

It's the same thing with Fenris. It helps that he's pretty, but it'll all depend on what he's like. If he's pure evil I'm not going to have him in my party, no matter how pretty he is, and no matter what his race.

Although there is some sort of. . . masochistic part of me that loves the idea of a rivalry romance with someone that (potentially) hates mages and is the spawn of all things foul. It's a very messed up, sort of sexy idea. Seduce the demon-spawn you hate. You may want to cave in his skull half the time, but at least he's good for something, eh?

Rivalry romances are sounding better and better. . .

. . . sorry. Got carried away, there. At some point in that rant I think I answered you, though.

Off topic and nitpicky:

I wouldn't say that they're perfect. Many of the problems in Middle-Earth (and elsewhere) can be attributed to things that elves have done, directly or indirectly.

Back on topic, though, I wanted to add: It probably doesn't hurt that, unless the elves in question live at the north pole, they're pretty much always extremely pretty.

regarding the first part:  So you almost see elves in a similar way to vampires then (I don't mean these sparkly ones that the tweens go crazy about) with the attraction to eternal life?

regarding the second:  So it's like the typical outsider/bad boy thing?

I really don't care if Fenris is Bi or straight, but I would like him to be a little bit harder to crack like Alistair was. It was much more fun. Also I think he shouldn't be a fling like Zevran was, but a character that you intended to have with you in the Epilogue.

Harder to crack? Have you romaced Zevran? He is not just "a fling" ...and does end up in the epi slides with his warden, whatever the warden decides to do. It is a thrilling romance that was very well written and really ramps up near the end.

Aaaand it's harder to romance Zevran than Alistair. I would say that Alistair is easy to romance and hard to get in bed and Zevran is viceversa. But at least Zevran doesn't dump you cause you are a mage #@1&*$E!

I didn't get dumped 'cause I was a mage.

I got dumped because I was a elf.

I was an elf and I didn't get dumped.

Hell yeah. B)

Elves in general? They're appealing if you like slender or nimble builds, and many people do. They also tend to have angular and more refined features.

Elves also have a range of associations that many find attractive: sensitivity to the natural world, a touch of otherworldliness, freedom from the more industrial attitudes of dwarfs and humans, a preference for settling and maintaining an area and its resources instead of constantly conquering and plundering, and typically a more open attitude toward sexuality.

Fenris would look handsome for a human man as well. I don't think his look would work on a dwarf.

It's all good, this is part of the reason why I asked...like I said, from what I read in the thread (here and there), the stoicisim aspect just doesn't appeal to me...
