The scenario I put on my pro-Templar mage was that they were tired of the fear, uncertainty and isolation being an apostate brings, so saw sending people to the Circle as a kinder path than always wondering when someone was going to turn on them, or if the next knock on the door would be the templars coming to take them away.

Mind they did switch sides later in the game after finding out more about what the Circle was actually like.

See, that's the thing: my mage wouldn't change sides even after finding out. Maybe I will once I've got Fenris' friendship maxed out and he's too in love with my mage to get rival points anymore:devil:

That is exactly it.. max it out as fast as you can then do evrything promage and go "nyah nyah" lmao. So horrible, but I am so guilty of doing that.

Here is a funny... my virgin PT.. first PT I ever did...my diplo Hawke. She was promage all the way. I actually was stuck in neutral zone at the beginning of act 2. I gave him the book and he got pissed.. I got rival points! Now, by the end of the game... somehow... I ended up with a maxed friendmanced Fenris. To this day I have no idea how it happened exactly. I just love how that was my first playthrough. I sent Feynriel to Tevinter.. I was nice to everyone.

You know I think I triggered A Bitter Pill before his QB... he walked away - no glowy kiss. Then I remember being lost in thought about what quests I was going to be doing next.. going "crap I need to dump some things in storage.. well trip to house...then do this.. then this..." and got surprised the hell out of when he was there waiting for me. Literally surprised... me and my Hawke both said Fenris!? At the same time. Best reaction ever.. totally was unprepared.

I remember my first thought was "you want to do this now, Fenris?! But i've got quests! Oh well.. screw it, this is awesome." *throws planner over shoulder* "commence smexy times!" Lol.

Sided with the mages.. had a comeback from rivalry to friendship. I swear I don't think I could do it again and have it work out like that, lol.

Heh, my very first playthrough was an angry femHawke mage rivalmancing Fenris. I got the glowy scene. I didn't actually realise there was an alternative until the latest playthrough (where I actually ended up going Fenris-Isabela-Anders, since I hadn't see the Andersmance yet; Fenris is still my favourite). It was the first time I'd done A Bitter Pill before his QB, when he left I was in shock - I was like "OMG, did I break the romance!!? ). There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and consulting of the DA wiki.

As a matter of interest, is it actually possible to romance *everyone*? I remember reading that Merrill and Anders both lock the relationship (presumably because they move in), so I was unsure. Obviusly I'm not counting Sebastian here. Just the people who get sexytimes.

There is only the tri-fecta because both Izzy and Fenris have a "break." And get overshadowed by Anders and Merrill.

You can do Izzy --> Fenris ---> Anders. If you sleep with Anders you can break up afterward but cannot pick up the Fenris or Isabela romance again. I am unsure with Merrill, but I am pretty sure if you sleep with Anders she will not come by, and if you sleep with her first Anders will not come by. Fenris won't come back even if he smells a hint of Izzy on you, lol. He is also watching outside your window when Anders comes over and if you don't send him packing and sleep with the abomination he will not take sloppy seconds.

Ok so maybe not.. but that is how it seems, lmao. Like.. "Fenris how you know I slept with these people?! I still luv you? No? Plz?...no?" Lol. He is kind of temperamental that way. Izzy can break his romance if not done right, and it is arguable what "right" is. Then you can't go to him after sleeping with Anders or Merrill, and with Izzy you have to do it 1st, and end it taking the "for funsies" option before you even start initiating the Fenris romance.

This was my forever alone Hawke. She did the trifecta, and slept with but dumped Anders and was forever alooone... lol.

Aw, I'm rather sad about that. And he probably finds out via Varric. Varric is a terrible busybody, as Merrill says. For a second I thought you were serious about Fenris being outside the window - like you could see him there if you looked carefully, peering in tragically through the pane alongside Messere Pointy-Face.

I always go Fenris first, none of my characters can resist his broodiness. They sometimes move on after he leaves though. I just love the tension and passion there, particularly with a mage Hawke (I always play mages, I just like their style in DA2 - and the Item Pack outfits). I haven't done Merrill's romance yet, but I watched it on Youtube. Fenris is still my favourite. Isabela's was nice and very sweet at the end, but it didn't strike me as having the raw passion and longing of the Fenris path. Anders' was rather adorable in the "Let's be rebel apostates together!" kind of way, but half the time I was cringing at femHawke's lines ("I want you *right* here - until the *day* we *die*!") *shudder*. Why do Ander's flirt lines not change based on personality, whyyyy!? I'm pretty sure a lot if not most of the other characters' ones do.

Flirt lines actually don't change really. I did an Isabela romance and I agree ... I found it lacking a bit. The Fenrismance I have done 7 times *facepalm* It is my favorite. I've stalked the Andersmance on Youtube and keep telling mysel one day... one day....

The Merrillmance I watched for kicks, but I can't romance Merrill.. I don't like her, and I usually rival her. I killed her once *dodges tomatos* Though, I killed Anders too.. for SCIENCE I swear! I love that apostate... I just can't .. romantically love him. Gahh Anders... another time and place.

Fenris sits outside the top floor window, enshrouded in darkness, pained by his guilt and remorse about leaving Hawke.... sees Anders walking to the estate at night. He listens, watches, remains unseen.. pushing himself just so close to the pane as a hint of fog from his quickening breath appears as morning dew to those inside. He watches.. he hears Anders' confession, what they mean to do. He wants to run, but can't - his guilt won't let him. He deserves this. Hawke deserves better.

Anders is calling him a beast, he wants to barge in the room. Wants to say otherwise, but he can't. He won't do that to Hawke.

Then.. He hears Hawke's voice...telling Anders to leave. Defending HIM... even after everything. Even after he left her...

He watches Anders leave, and he knows that feeling. Remorse...

Cuz that totally isn't my headcanon or anything. Delicious angst! Muahaha.

 Urgh, that femHawke line made me shudder as well. Yuck. That was the corniest, lamest and most pathetic line in the entire game. Maker.
After romancing Fenris, I can never, ever romance anyone else. I tried romancing Anders in my current (5th) playthrough, but nah. I just cant. I figured that because I'm a mage it'd be cute, but I just couldn't. Fenris has cast this powerful spell on me (that hypocrite; I thought he was anti-magic!) and I can't seem to be able to get enough of him. But hey, I'm not complaining!

Hah! That is exactly how I feel about Anders! I love him, I really do, but just not in a romantic way. I love him like a dear friend, which is why I find it hard to be mean to him, but oh, how amused I get when he gets angry at me! He's just one of those people whose anger is very amusing because they're usually nice, gentle, kind and funny people, so when they get angry, its hard to take their anger seriously. I love that line he told my Warrior femHawke once: "Why is it that you can't say anything without making me want to wring your neck?" Hah! I love that line, sends me into a fit of laughter every time! 

Gotta love Anders (says the girl who lurks in the Anders thread and never really says anything).

Well, you can't romance all of them but you can definitely sleep with all of them and pick whoever you want to end up with as the last person Hawke taps. I've done Fenris -> Isabela -> Merrill -> Anders (Rivalmance) and Isabela -> Merrill -> Anders -> Fenris (Friendmance). The key to making sure you get the next one is to make sure you choose the break up options after each person you tap and if you want to boink Fenris last, you have to make sure NOT to touch any of his character quests AT ALL until you sleep with, and break up with everyone else.

I think DemonSaya also wrote a guide on how to do this somewhere in this thread a looooooooong while back if anyone's interested in a more in-depth guide \\o\\

You cannot sleep with Anders then go to Fenris. You can kissyface get him to your house, but if you go all the way you can't. Fenris won't go for it. And didn't know about Merrill.. thought she broke Anders.. hmm. Yeah I remember that guide. I haven't looked at it in a loooong time though.

Huh... I definitely got it though? Sleeping with Anders, dumping him afterward, then going to do everything about Fenris in Act 2, from the talk to him quest, to giving him the book, to questioning beliefs and then a bitter pill and the love scene happened :(a

In that case, your game bugged, because it's not meant to happen like that. Anders' relationship is supposed to kill the Fenris and Isabela romances dead. XD You're considerably luckier than most.

Edit: And so is the Merrill romance, for that matter.  You're definitely lucky, since you managed to sleep with both and somehow still get Fenris. XD

But yeah.. Anders and Merrill are supposed to supercede anyone else. We seriously need a Faq there,are so many rumors and conflicting info on Fenris lol. He is a conflicted guy... what ya gonna do? Lmao.

Really? Maybe it's just the early ones. Some of the Act 1 flirts (when you're talking in thier houses) seem to change. Like saying Fenris sounds like he's about to ask for a loan (snarky), or just-straight-out asking Merrill for a kiss (which I think is aggressive). I always thought the whole 'Shut up.' *grab* scene with Fenris was a Red Hawke thing, maybe it isn't.

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to do the Merrillmance. I nearly always rival her (because I like her arc more that way), and romancing her on that path just seems so fundamentally wrong to me. She's very sweet but... not to my taste, really.

There's also the fact I prefer her non-romanced armor by quite a long way.

The "shut up" is aggro specific, and there are a few examples of this, yes. I was thinking more along the lines of the flirt lines don't change much from rival/friend. They change with personality a bit.

Some lines are based on how high your friend/rival is. Like the "upkeep" line from Fenris. Yet most of the time the heart option produces the same line.

See, I can NEVER get the Fenris romance to work if I sleep with anyone else first. It's.. very irritating.

I hear there's a trick to it (as in, if you give bela her gift and heart her that way it doesn't break the rest of the romances) or something, but ..for me, if I sleep with anyone else, when I get to his quests he leaves and never comes back, and his QB doesn't allow me to initiate the romance.

Trying to get through a Merrill Rivalmance, not enjoying it very much. Merrill is just... I don't know, little sister-ish? It's hard to connect with her in a romance sense IMO. Last PT was a friendmance with Anders, it was okay but... nothing holds a candle to Fenris. I ruined the other romances for myself by doing his first. I wasn't sure who my first Hawke would romance but by mid act 2 knew it would be Fenris, however I had him the neutral zone (didn't understand how the friend/rival thing worked at first and figured neutral was a good place to be). Got to Act 3 with no romance, realized something was wrong and luckily Heidenreich helped out with rival tips and I reloaded Act 1 so I could rivalmance him. It was so worth it!

Want to do to the Fenris friendmance but saving it until I've done all the others first... 'cause I must try *everything*.

The only thing I liked about the glowly kiss was the glow.. the kiss itself seemed forced ("no Hawke, don't rape the poor guy!") maybe with a M!Hawke it would be more passionate but it felt weird to me... silly preconceived sexist notions in my head I suppose.

I did a speed re-load of my aggro rivalmage at act 2 and.. and... I slept with everyone! I left a trail of broken hearts in my wake, LMAO.

mini-guide...
Isabela ----> Merrill ----> Anders -----> Fenris

First and foremost you must NOT touch Fenris. Do not do *ANY* of his quests in Act 2 until you have slept with everyone else and broken up with them.

Second, it works better and faster if you have them at least over 50 friend/rival so their QB quests trigger. Luckily I had it on this PT.

I did this...

-- Hi act 2.. hi viscount.. hi new swanky house...
-- Hanged man, hey Izzy... "flirt" --> QB
-- Go home at night.. oh Izzy.. surprise!... Sexytimes.. choose the for funsies option, send her packing.

-- Go talk to Merrill her 1st convo.
-- Go do Blackpowder Courtesy -- to progress the story line a bit

-- Go back and do Merrill's Mirror quest -- refuse to give her arulin'holm (LOL, no but I totally did >.>)
-- Make sure you DON'T take Fenris out of Kirkwall because it could trigger A Bitter Pill and that just ruins everything
-- Go back and get yelled at by Merrill or whatever..
-- Do Merrill's QB quest and get yelled at some more (chose flirts)
-- Go home and Merrill apologizes.. sexy times... then tell her "this was a fling" and sit there LIKE A BOSS on the bed as she walks out (Maker I was facepalming so bad.. Sitting there thinking "I am a horrible person...")

-- Go to Anders --> Dissent -- Feel Justice's burn... etc.
-- Go to Anders' clinic --> finish Dissent ---> QB (flirty flirt) --> Drown us both in blood --> smoochy kissyface --> "do that again"
--- Go home at night, meet Anders --- sexy times --> (I named this save "I am a horrible person.") Dump Anders -- get yelled at "You Used ME?!" (Maker, it actually hurts when he says that, I am scum...)

--- Go cry to Fenris -- he's all not Danarius' mansion, (flirty flirt) Give you problems, etc.
--- Do Fenris's QB --> flirty flirt "I'm willing"
--- Take Fenris out of Kirkwall -- fresh air and Slavers and all. -- Go crush a bit**'s heart
--- Go home at night -- hi Fenris.. oh how unexpected.. may do glowy kiss or send him off with non-glowy kiss return.

I did a speed load into Act 3 -- using the jump to scenario thing.. his romance dialogue did trigger in Act 3. So I figure it was a success.

and because I didn't deserve him after all that destruction... I dumped him too... ForEVER ALONE YOU HEARTBREAKER Hawke! >.<

btw.. Fenris's breakup dialogue ... I had tears in my eyes.. horrible.. absolutely horrible.

I don't think I could do this as a real playthrough, LOL. My Izzy --> Anders (nosex) --> Fenris was hard enough... LOL.

Still.. it IS possible. I just did it. *goes and takes a bath* "I feel unclean."
