Awww, have fun Arquen! Its not sad, really. I think we'd all say the same. Who in their right mind can wilfully stay away from the Fenris Thread?

A toast to all us Fenris-lovers!

I came here to post something but was temporarily distracted by a particular avatar gif on the previous page.

......

Okay. Enjoy Fenrisabela. Sorry for crappy quality, I have a 25-cent digital camera and I'm on Xbox.

Maker... That's.... disturbing, to say the least. Although I can't even count the number of times my Hawkes have morphed with Anders.

Well, their relationship is definitely...physical...Posted Image

The most disturbing morph I've witnessed was Aveline with a mustachioed guy (voiced by Sebastian) during A Noble Agenda. His head sprouted out of the side of her face during the end cutscene for that quest.

LOL! In the second picture, it looks like they're one of those two-headed babies!

And the first picture reminds of that movie... what was it called? Stuck on you? The one with Eva Mendes, I think.

Okay, I am soooo straying off topic. Time to get back to studying.

Poor Varric looks a bit uncomfortable. Posted Image  or like he's trying very hard to ignore them both...
And now I want to go hunting for Fenders-art... and I don't even like that pairing. Posted Image *runs off to scribble Fen*

In my latest playthrough I romanced Fenris (rivalmanced him forever ago but don't remember much about it) and all the act 3 stuff made me cry. I like the scene where he touches Hawke's face at the end of Alone if you tell him he's not alone, he has you.

He broke my Lady Mage Hawke's heart running off after their first time... in Act III. So she stuck with Isabela. Although my Hawke flirted with everyone... going as far as breaking Merrill's little heart in Act II. But in MotA suddenly Fenris is all worried and concerned for her... too little too late bub.

@Asch Lavigne I think everyone on this thread can agree on that scene being their favourite, or at least one of their favourites. That look never fails to melt my heart and give me butterflies.

My friend did the Anders romance the first time she played, I went the Fenris route (my other friend with DA2 went with Isabela, apparently none of us liked Merrill). My friend was so jealous when I described half the Fenris scenes, particularly this one. Friendmanced Anders doesn't even give you a kiss. Bwahahaha!

I was kinda spoiled by doing the Fenris romance first, though. I've done Anders and Isabela since, and none of them seem to match up. I think part of it is the facial animations - Fenris' are just so darn good. That and he has an amazing theme tune.

Oh, and Gideon Emery.

I can never see my Hawke romancing Anders. To me, he's like an incredibly annoying and whiney yet extremely loveable friend who I can only consider as a dearest buddy or a brother. I adore that crazy mage, just not in a romantic sense. On the far end of the scale, however, I can only see Fenris as a love interest. I can obviously see him as a friend too, but not in a brotherly or buddy-like way. The romance has got to be there.

Arquen you are an absolute gem! The romance style works the same for Xbox, got heartbreaker Hawke.Posted Image I have been through Isabela, Merrill and then Anders, breaking up with Anders was hardest but mwuhahahahaha. Now my Hawke can go be with Fenris whom he wanted all along. I feel no shame, evil!****ty!hawke rules!Posted Image

Even better I maxed all their frienships beforehand so none could even ding me for breaking up with them. in fact Merrill gave me frienship points. The breakup was just that good. *preens* No to complate my rivalmance with Fenris. I somehow maxed his rivalry in act one. Thankyou Legacy.Posted Image

I agree that I find it very difficult not to romance Fenris, but was forced to not even flirt with him when I was trying out the Sebastian romance and I found it very touching when he told my mage Hawke that she was his only true friend, an irony that they both appreciated, and that he hoped they would stay together in the future. Since she had lost Carver in the Deep Roads, it was like she did have a substitute brother and she was his substitute sister. I ignored Varric's epilogue - what does he know anyway!

Welcome to the club. I found the only way to not romance him is not picking him up at all. Gosh, it was the hardest thing I've ever done!

I've never done a playthrough where I didn't romance Fenris. I get to Bait and Switch and he looks at you with those huge green puppy eyes and GAH! I'm gone...You've got more self control than I do Gervaise.

I really did like Anders in Awakening...But he's so different personality-wise in DAII, he's...harsher.

I can't not romance him. I do in every playthrough, then after he leaves I'll go to whatever romance I was supposed to. Even that hurts though because I just adore his gallows scene. Such a passionate elf. I miss his face touching scene, the last couple times I have used the diplomatic "You have friends" option but I think I'll go with "I'm here." For my rival rogue. There needs to be some tender moments here.

i have that 'problem' too. see. part of what it is... its the same reason i romance Garrus over and over again in ME. not just that he's absolutely HOT, but to me their relationships feel the most sincere. Fenris' relationship is absolutely the sweetest thing ever, even if he's got more baggage than an airport. When he says he cares for you, you KNOW beyond the shadow of a doubt that he means it. and the fact that there is a bit of awkwardness and a few issues just makes it all the more realistic and sweet.

that said, i watched that video that was posted with the heartbreaking-ness and then i had to immediatly go and watch the "promise me you won't die" video. cause thats just the sweetest thing ever. followed by the hottest kiss in all of video gaming history. but yeah. anyone who can break Fenris' heart like that... damn. i applaude your courage and strength, cause my heart broke just watching it.

and yes. I miss Awakenings!Anders too...

I never romanced anyone else after he leaves in Act II. My Hawke remains single (in a physical sense; she's emotionally involved with Fenris, even if he cant be in a relationship anymore). I play it that way because 1) its the way I'd act in real life- if I love someone with all my heart and soul, and I know that he loves me back just as much, but certain emotional/psychological issues make it difficult for him to be intimate with me, there is no way I can just move on and be with someone else. The only way I could move on is if I knew he doesn't feel the same way about me and/or he has moved on himself. 2) The best scenes with Fenris are in Act III- no romance with any other character beats the passion and depth of raw emotion that those scenes exude. His eyes are enough to kill me in "Alone" when you choose the "I'm here, Fenris" option.

Ah. Fenris... I am yours.

I'm definitely in the minority here in that I do love the Fenmance (and the post-Alone puppy eyes are just...gah!)...but I still prefer Anders. Maybe it's because I liked the character before DA2, maybe it's because I did his romance first, or maybe it's because I'm so firmly pro-mage. Not only do I think his romance is a tad better paced, I also think it flows better with the story (and it certainly feels like you actually have to work to avoid it). As it is, my Fenmancing Hawke is a mage, and I don't know if I'll make any other ones for him (only if I muster the courage for a rivalmance with a mage at some point, I guess); any other class would just have felt...too disconnected from the plot to me. Which is paradoxical, because I had no problem with staying away from Alistair in DAO. As things stand, I actually had trouble enjoying the Fenmance sometimes, because I'd get twangs of guilt while speaking to Anders, who would go on about how thankful he was that Hawke believed in him. There's also the fact that personal knowledge of the "I leave you for several years because I need to sort myself out" situation kinda puts a damper on things.

None of that lessens my appreciation of Fenris as a character though. Which is saying something, because both of the female LI options irk and/or annoy me.

I can't romance Anders. I tried and failed, because it felt... well, unhealthy. I got the feeling that, regardless of how I played - even if I made love to Fenris in front of him then used blood magic to screw with mages, then sell the mages out to the templars for fun and profit - that he'd always be obsessed with my character, and it felt uncomfortable.

Also, I just really hate the flirt lines that Hawke has. I mean, come on "I want you right here, until the day we die!" is way too dramatic as a response to "Can I move in with you, Hawke?". I actually cringe every time I hear it.

The flirt lines for Hawke in the Fenmance generally feel more natural, and the Friendmance in particular felt more natural than the Anders Friendmance. (I don't want to rivalmance either, sorry to say.)

See, Anders doses, can, and will leave a Hawke who messes with demons. If you romance Anders, and then make the deal with torpor, Anders will break up with your Hawke. It's just to much for even his ETERNAL FLAME OF LURVE.

So, yea, he's not completely obsessed. :P

Well, the thing is, he's essentially put it into his head that Hawke is his one anchor to a normal life, be they a friend who believes in him or a rival who tries to call out his bull****. No one else really bothers, except maybe Varric. Even Fenris has more friends. I agree that it can be uncomfortable, but I can't really blame him for it. Intensity is his middle name.

I didn't know about the breakup over Torpor though (mainly because I wouldn't even consider making a deal). But that's certainly a good point.

Also, I just really hate the flirt lines that Hawke has. I mean, come on "I want you right here, until the day we die!" is way too dramatic as a response to "Can I move in with you, Hawke?". I actually cringe every time I hear it.

I actually agree about Hawke's overly dramatic responses being a tad cringeworthy, but again, I think that comes with the tone of the romance in general. After all, it is literally true that Templars could come knocking and arrest him any day, so the day either of them dies isn't necessarily that far away. Less so after he moves in, because Hawke's status protects him, but it's still rather flimsy. Still, I do wish that Hawke could have toned it down a bit in that one, especially since it's unavoidable if you want to continue the romance. Other than that, not systematically picking all flirts sometimes leads to better dialogue. And that's no different for the Fenmance. Several examples:

- While I *love* Fenris' embarrassed chuckle when you tell him "that would be a waste of a perfectly handsome elf" when he says that Danarius would rip the lyrium from his bones if he could, I feel it's rather inappropriate, considering the context.

- Again, when you talk to him right afterwards in the mansion, and he says that Danarius used him to scare his guests, Hawke's flirty reponse of "I can't imagine why they would be scared" strikes me as inappropriate, and Fenris' reaction sounds like Hawke's coming on too strong.

- Last but not least, there's Hawke's flirt during the post-Alone convo. When Fenris asks where the future leads, and Hawke can answer "I don't know, but I hope we stay together". Considering that they've been on a break for three years and that there hasn't been ANY verbal acknowledgement that he has changed his mind, it feels awkward for Hawke to come up with that.

Beyond that, I find that the Fenmance dialogue has other snags. One particular convo stands out: the "you are a beautiful woman, Hawke" one. To me, it sounds a bit like they're bargaining on a deal rather than flirting: Mutually Agreeable Terms for Having a Fling. And it ends on "intriguing, I'll have to think about it"...No one's forcing you, mate. Especially if you've been flirting with him before: he's not dumb, you've already made it obvious that you were interested, he's had plenty of time to think about it.
