I actually have a shirt that says "I have a thing for broody, tortured elves", and I am in LOVE with it! I also love the confused look of people's faces when they read it and haven't got a clue what it means:P

I just have a question, excuse me if it has been asked before, is Bioware planning on making a "I <3 Fenris" shirt like the Alistair one that I am wearing right now!
I have no idea, but I would definitely buy one!
Edit: Near ToP. I have seen this one before, and I was thinking of it when I wrote Fenris's intro into Common Ground.

[...]Even with her manipulation and such I don't doubt that she is telling the truth when she says Fenris has a horrible accent. That doesn't necessarily mean he speaks the words/sentences incorrectly, but it indicates that he at least is not fluent in the language. Either that or he has a very thick Tevene or common tongue accent in his speech that comes off to a native Qunari as garbled or incorrect. While he may know the language enough to speak it, he still speaks it "badly" to someone who basically learned it as their first or at least primary language.
I would lean more toward the idea that Fenris just has a thick Tevene accent in his Qunari, but knows the language well enough. Even his common tongue has a bit of that Tevinter accent in it.
Pardon me while I rant a bit over the highlighted section: people who don't care about language may wish to skip to the end of the rant.
Accents have nothing to do with fluency in a language. Yes, with practice, an accent can be reduced, but almost never eradicated entirely. A person can speak, understand, write and read a secondary language as expertly as a native speaker, and still sound funny to a someone who grew up surrounded by that language, learned it as a child. Pretty much the only way to speak a foreign language without any accent is to learn it as a young child, the way you learn your native language. This is because of the neural pathways which form our language centres; the parts which hold the 'blueprints' for language forms we don't use die out early, giving us what is called a 'critical window' - the period of time in which we are best able to learn language, and after which, it becomes much more difficult. That window varies a bit, but is generally the breakoff point is somewhere around puberty, while the process of the dying-off begins even earlier. Given that Fenris has likely had little chance to actually speak Qunari, and he definitely learned it after the 'critical window' closed, it certainly wouldn't surprise me that he has a thick accent, and not a polished, practiced one that's less bothersome to the native ear.
Doesn't mean Tallis is right for pointing it out; in fact, it means she's even more wrong, because it's literally something he cannot change. She's effectively mocking him for a speech impediment. I don't tolerate people mocking others for their accents in real life, and it still makes me angry when the characters aren't real.
Okay, end rant, it's safe to read again!
I believe Tallis chose to join the Qun, and not raised under it? She never says it directly, but the implication from a few banters is that she was from Tevinter, and she does say directly that she wasn't born to the Qun. She talks about it to . . . Aveline, I believe, in a banter, and to Hawke directly. And to Fenris, I recall that she says she chose the Qun, when he compares it to slavery.
Which brings me to something that I find interesting is Fenris' respect for the Arishok, when put next to his several comparisons of the Qun to slavery in MotA. As for me,I certainly agree with Fenris about that outlook on the Qun - not just for mages, but for everyone born to it, who never even have a choice, and who will be brainwashed into believing it by the Ben-Hassrath if they doubt and can't manage to get away to be Tal-Vashoth.
And actually, I have a whole thing on how a lot of Tal-Vashoth are still allowing themselves to be bound by the Qun even if they tried to reject it, but this is not the thread for it.
To respond to this real quick. I completely agree actually. I think instead of "accent" I should have said "dialect." It would have made my point a bit better. In that an accent IS something that you can't help having if you are not a native speaker of the language. Whereas a dialect can be something learned and may indeed be or sound incorrect to someone with another dialect. Even though it is effectively the same language.
Regardless of Tallis's intentions/etc. I don't think she genuinely meant malice toward Fenris. She did try to put him down by saying "that is so cute," but really I agree that she was being coy and dodgy in that conversation. I was talking more about the conversation with Varric where she goes "I wouldn't call what he does.. speaking Qunari.." To which they both ignore her, and I lol. She probably is a bit rattled that Fenris tests her, but I don't truly believe she was being malicious to him on purpose. More cautious I'm sure, and her comment about the accent was more snarky because of his apparent dislike of her than anything. At least that is how I took it.
Tallis is snarky and cautious, and a one-upper. She is also conflicted and realizes that none of the companions want to help her or like her in the least. So she is defensive.
It is still up in the air whether or not Fenris's Qunari "sucks" or not, but I can at least accept that he might speak it badly at least when compared to a native Qunari speaker. I say native because Tallis states that while she wasn't "born" to the Qun she seems to have spent her whole or at least most of her life living and being with them, even before the Ben-Hassrath recruited her. It would have been her primary language that she spoke most of the time if not always. Hence I don't blame her too much for saying such things. Often times when you go to another country people will be snarky about your accent being terrible... if only in jest or a slight backhanded comment. This has happened to me before more than once

I must have read this chapter like 5+ times now, and I love it.
Good Fenfic is so hard to find these days. I was cruising FF.net and AO3 earlier, and came up with nothing. *sigh*
So indeed.. keep it up! You too Ursula and Heiden
However, proofreading all these stories, and watching Castle makes me so want to write my own fenfic, LOL.
Speaking of Castle. Totally had a Gideon Emery cameo. I got all giddy, and even though he wasn't using his "Fenris voice," I still laughed more than I should have at his dialogue. His character was a manager of an online male stripper service. Worth it...

He was in Burn Notice as well, and I saw the one in the Mentalist *grins like a fool*
He also will be a voice in Uncharted 3 and Guild Wars 2 (various) -- Looks like MRC was right about those sylvari. I think I'm totally going to play one too... yep.. I was torn before, but that just made my mind up for me. LOL.

It was back in the days before we even know the name of a certain charming Teventer elf. Good times..*sage nod* good times.....

Then I lurked here for like 2 months before I actually registered my game and got involved.
Still.. I think that picture will always bring back memories for me as well.
Interesting thought... I wonder if Fenris has ever had chocolate? or sweets for that matter.
Also, curious about the gifts in Hawke's house. The Tevinter wine -- "Fenris says all Tevinter wine is made from the blood and tears of slaves. I hope he was joking." -- too tired so paraphrasing. I just imagine that scene in my head and laugh... Him actually bringing the wine over and saying these things to Hawke with that smirk smile he does. Ha.
Totally should write a one-shot of that... hmmm...

@Arquen- Hah!! I could so picture Fenris saying that to Hawke with that impeccable dry sense of humour. And then when Hawke's as confused and as shocked as hell and asks him "wha..what?", he'll just smirk and leave.
And maybe its just me, but Fenris strikes me as the sort of person who has a sweet tooth. Maybe its because I do and I'm being biased, but of well!

Not it is not wrong - I was thinking the EXACT same thing
His smirk is what helps make his character and demeanor I think - and that scene should have been in the game. Hawke definitely would have been speechless as he walks out. I'm playing again with aggro Hawke and his lines are just so priceless....
And I want a t-shirt too! Who doesn't

I thought he explained it pretty well himself in the QB quest in act 3 (which i just completed for the first time and i was blushing at the end. it was so cute)...
but i think the short answer is:
- he realized he was in love with hawke
- he didn't think he deserved to be in love because he was still thinking of himself as a slave on the run
- he'd rather have hawke hate him than admit his vulnerability and insecurity
and
- he can't get over that insecurity until danarius is dealt with
oh, and edit: hi sia!
btw, Just thought i'd post this. This is my (Rather long! i tried to put in colored highlights):
Guide to Friending Fenris while still being Pro-mage AND taking him almost everywhere.
it took me a while to test it out. it was a lot of fun, too.

There is a whole book on this subject.
(I KID, I hate relationship books like the above geared towards women)
I think the fact that he doesn't actually leave Hawke's presence after that one night, and wears the favor then, instead after reconciling in Act Three, says a lot about Fenris's feelings for Hawke. It's one of the few times I would actually believe "it's not you, it's me" after a breakup.
Beyond the reasons he gives in game, I can also imagine that he feels like Hawke comes from a completely different world from his background. Hawke was born and raised free (and preserving freedom was important to his/her parents), into a loving family, and Fenris can't relate to that at all. I know that in the past, when I was younger, I had a hard time dating or even being friends with people I looked at as "normal"...I was so caught up in letting my crappy childhood define who I was as a teenager and young adult, it really did make me push people away for no good reason. Maybe I'm projecting, but I can see that sort of low self esteem being a reason for him to think that he can't be with Hawke.

But, in all seriousness, I'm just trying to get a better grasp of his character since he'll be one of the POVs in my DA2 project. (Trying something new with structure. I figured BW can experiment, so can I.)
I guess I just don't grasp the self-esteem thing. Because he doesn't act like it. He seems more prideful than anything.
