Okay I am officially pissed at Fen. This is a first, I mea I have been irked before but if my Hawke were in character and able to react to anything Fenris would be laid out flat right now. Doing the quest Faith with Fenris, Anders and Sebastion. My Hawke is a mage, Promage (I micro managed like whoa) friendmanced with Fen though they still haven't gotten back together. But the scenario plays out like this:

Anders: "Like any mage with a brain couldn't concieve "lets rebel"

Fenris: l "Like any mage with a brain could concieve anything else."

And my (My Hawkes) jaw hit the floor. Even Sebastion flinched And I (Hawke) was very...

Hawke: "Buddy you better thank the maker I have no control over myself right now cause I will lay you out flat, we are not talking for the rest of the day, and later, I am going to troll the hell out of you and you're locked into frienship so you can't even get pissy about it.!"Posted ImagePosted Image

Anders:Posted ImagePosted Image

Sebeastion:Posted Image

Fenris: I didn't mean you!Posted Image

Hawke: *cold shoulder* Posted Image

I suspect that the real reason Fenris doesn't move in with my mage Hawke is that he knows he'll be sleeping on the couch a lot.

Who does that punish though? (Tis why I never saw the point in making one's partner sleep on the couch, myself. *evil grin*)

With Canon!Hawke that would last about 5 seconds...then, it'd be up for grabs whether she joined him there or dragged him back. :innocent:

Edit: Maker, ToP. At least it's been a while. Let's see... (Courtesy of our own Arquen and in honor of new chapters of Coffee, Black.) :)

It's funny, but Fenris has NEVER rubbed me the wrong way. I've never been offended or angry at him at all.

I mean, I pretty much get his point from the Gallows and there was never a time when I didn't consider what he had to say. Analyzing what he says about mages -- it never feels like "mage hate" so much as this...

Hawke: Forcing mages into servitude is not the way to prevent the rise of another Imperium.

Fenris: Letting them do as they please is hardly a better path.

Pretty much sums it up. He isn't against mages, and people get so caught in the details and bluntness of what he says. The "viper that will turn on you" the "what has magic touched that it hasn't spoiled" the "what manner of mage are you" the "you ARE a Monster" Merrill comments. None of these things actually bothered me... mostly because I try to see both sides, and Fenris is never very up in your face about the mages, and always considers what Hawke says even if it is aggressive or mean to HIM.

In MotA I just loved Fenris even more...

Sebastian: Do many Tevinter slaves run away to the Qunari?

Fenris: Some. I never understood why they thought it was an improvement.

Sebastian: I imagine that to a slave almost anything is an improvement, no?

Fenris: So, instead of being owned outright you swear voluntarily to do anything the Qun asks of you. Up to and including dying for your betters. It's just slavery by another name.

I was like *FISTPUMP* when he said that, LOL.

I quite agree!  He's never just pushing his own agenda, and he always seems to answer very pragmataically.
Now I have sided with the Templars once, just because he is so convincing!!

I hope you're recovering from your hellish weekend!  I'd send cookies but I'm fresh out - Halloween chocolate suffice??

Yah I have never been pissed until that one comment. All the others are just his opinion or his blunt nature, that "Any mage with a brain thing" is a snipe, and my poor mage Hawke was like "Heyyy!"

Okay, I don't recall where DG said that the name Fenris came from, or it was a derivative of Fenrir...but I just realized that Fenris is the head of the secret police for the White Witch in Narnia.....

Just a totally random aside....

According to IMDB, Gideon's got a voice part in Skyrim (my sister watched the leaked opening and thought she heard him) and he's in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Fenris shall take over all games :P

It's true. A friend and I watched part the leaked opening on Dailymotion (you can hear him in part one of it around the 2:10 to 2:15 mark-- we actually didn't get much farther then that). We kind of cried together, because for him, Balthier is helping kill his Khajiit, and for me, Fenris is helping kill my lady!Breton.

Probably should go dig them back up and see if we have to kill him. :crying:

NOOOOOO!!!! Please TES, don't make me kill my shiny elf! Posted Image

@darkrose- I hope you have a speedy recovery!!

In relation to VAs resembling their characters, I have another to add to the list of those who don't resemble them: Steve Valentine and Alistair. Also, Zev's VA looks nothing like him! But I agree with the notion that, generally, game developers match their characters' physical appearance (face-wise) to their VAs, because the voice should match the look. I'm glad they did that with Fenris. Actually, I'm glad Gideon is so darn good looking!

As to Fenris being annoying, let me put it this way: Fenris annoying me would be like me annoying myself. Apart from when he's really angry (post- A Bitter Pill), everything he says is always supported by a rational, logical reason. He's not one to hate and say "just because". He always has a good reason and I always agree with him.

Once again, there's no need for me to post anything more on the subject because Arquen (who is apparently my long lost twin brain-wise) has pretty much said it all!

Yeah... recovering. Out and about with the boyfriend. I lol at how in sync we are.

That line in "Faith" never needled me. I mean obviously it affected me so much that I barely remembered it, lmao. Listening to it again I see it as a poke at Anders. More like saying "As if mages with a brain should Only be thinking about rebeling." I don't think it means ehat ypu think it means? In that he was suggesting mages are dumb or single minded or something... more that it seems mages would probably think about a lot more than just "rebelling" as Anders seems to suggest.. all the time.

So, uhh.. yeah.. interpretations and all that.

Will be around later.... after some r&r.

Oh.. to add.. because I realize I haven't said Thank you guys for everything and <3 Fen and Coffee, Black. Read the latest chapter and was just what I needed.

Also... get better soon Dark rose! I don't have many M!Fenris fic reqs, but you know the kink meme is always an endless source of smut with some real gems hidden in there.

I could use some fic reqs too, lol. I keep reading the same ones over and over.

Recs for Darkrose. Sorry darlin'! I read recs as reqs and thought you were taking requests, got enthustiastic for more Julian. Posted Image

The Mage and the Wolf, by Phoenike  = Not finished but it has 26 chapters so far, very slowly updated. But I think it's worth it. Is pretty entertaining, a little dark, her take on a rivalmance.

Snare, Rook, Caltrops, Motes, by littleblackdog = In that order, my favourite Fenris/MHawke characters, and one of the only stories I enjoy Anders/Bethany in.

I was going to hand over anything by the lovely Aroihkin, but I can see by the comments you are already a fan. God, I can't remember any others right now, and to be honest I don't think there is anything I have read that you haven't. I have the kink meme faved on the fills that have MHawke/Fenris, you have to sift through the Fenders that creeps in, like a creepy creeper, but tis' a small price to pay.

HawkeOtp, by various anons.

That was probably partly my fault Fleshy -- I've been posting from my phone and OMG typo hell >.<

Typed reqs and meant recs... plus.. just.. Maker, I gave up

I can't stop them.

Actually the only M!Hawke x Fenris one I read is Coffee, Black. I don't really know why. Mostly because Dragon Age is my first foray into smut/fanfiction in general. I get scared on the kink_meme LMAO. So hard to find good things that are actually in character and not .. you know.. random pron for the lulz.

That being said... I tried reading The Mage and the Wolf before, but I just... I couldn't get into that rivalmance kind of headspace. Haven't tried the others.. perhaps will give them a read.

I agree about the Fenders and just the smut in general. It is like sifting through the river for gold nuggets. Really hit and miss. Some things I just get two sentences in and go *eyeroll*

I'm so weird about reading though. I read novels, classic literature, philosophy books, and people look at me sideways when I say Crime and Punishment is one of my favorite books because of the Existentialist ideals of Nietzsche that it presented. Then I just kind of shut my mouth and go "umm... Lord of the Rings is my favorite book series ever?" <-- FACT.

Also, came across more epic dialogue:

Aveline: Orlesians

Fenris: They trouble you?

Aveline: It's the excess of it all. I feel..out of place.

Fenris: I felt that even in Kirkwall. Slaves get accustomed to very simple apparel.

Aveline: Tevinter isn't known for its restraint either.

Fenris: Lyrium scarring is not something that should inspire anything. Let alone fashion.

Hawke: Says the glowing elf.

Aveline: I dunno. Dying for clothes doesn't seem beyond some of them.

Fenris: What they inflict is not fashion. It's more like a child dressing a doll.

I about died at Hawke's little aside there ... "says the glowing elf."

LOL, Hawke has always been snarky.. even diplo Hawke can be snarky.

I just love how Fenris trolls people like a boss in MotA and then Hawke trolls him right back. It is how I imagine Gwenya and Fenris to talk all the time. The snark, the trolling, the lulz.

I love the comment about Kirkwall.. and feeling out of place. Also about the "child dressing a doll." Hmmm...

Awww, doing a playthrough of MotA inact one, took Fenris and Bethany. Fenris is so sweet to Bethany all the time.

"You should wear a Orlesian dress Bethany"
"Why because I am a girl!"
"Because you would look pretty in one"

So cute. I may need to find a fic with them in it. (I paraphrased the hell out of the actual banter just so you all know,)

Arquen: Lol, I haven't been bogged down or really noticed your typos so you're still doing well, my post came awhile ago but I am more then happy to let you shoulder some of the guilt to lessen my embarressment at my snap assumption.  So yah "Bad Arquen, who's typos are to blame for all my mistakes." Posted Image

The Mage and the Wolf, there are a couple spots where I am iffy, but for the most part it is just a fun new take on things, the rivalmance can't even be called a mance yet, they actually seem to sort of hate eachother, not in a Fenris vs Anders way though, I don't know how I feel about her Fenris, but her pissy Hawke, and her Isabela are awesome, and the Zevran cameo makes me happy. Her Fenris runs a bit hot and cold at times.

The saddest thing about the kink meme is that most of the best fics on there are also abandoned. Which makes me incredibly annoyed. But like you said, there is occasionally a real gem in there. It's where I found Snare, Coffee,Black and the Scarlet and Silver series... these three sustain me through the very long breaks between me having a series to read, and waiting to find something to intrigue me. I read them over and over again.

I agree with the boook thing to, though I can't read anything non fiction. I get bored or something. Loved Lord of the Rings, even enjoyed Twilight ( it's like a really horrid sweet chocolate cake festooned with spinkles that you can only eat a bite of before your feel ill, I shared it with unicorns) My favourite moments are when friends come home complaining about the books they are reading in their enlglish course, and how I am so lucky I don't have to read them, and I can (quite smugly) tell them I read it years ago. Posted Image

Oh my effing lord it is freezing here! I am litterally sore from typing with cold fingers. playing my first female today and it is taking forever cause my hands get cold and I have to stop, and I am trying to avoid romancing Fen cause I wanted a Sebastian romance! I am thinking it won't work out for me. Posted Image

There are so many banters I want to hear, Like Carver and Fenris in the rescue scene with one of my mage Hawkes.  I was a little disappointed with my Diplo and aggro run throughs of MotA, much less banter. Plus no "Elves breed quickly too, we're plucky that way" Which is one of my fave lines in the whole DA series. The way he says it. *gigglesnort* watch out lady!Hawkes. Luckily I have yet to romance Fen with a female so none of my Hawkes need to worry about being knocked up by a plucky elf. Posted Image

LMAO... Oh so MANY gems in MotA indeed.

Also, Fenris likes apples....

Sebastian: You can't swing a dead cat in Starkhaven without hitting an Orlesian.

Fenris: Truly? Starkhaven seems like a long way fallen to go.

Sebastian: The Minanter river flows across half of Thedas. Orlesian merchants bob in it like apples.

Fenris: I like apples.

Sebastian: Yes, well, these apples will buy your sister, eat your house, and woo your chickens.

My sleep deprived mind took me to horrible places, Fleshy... horrible, dark places I don't want to share, but mostly thinking about how it must be in Tevinter where everyone shows off their slaves and tries to one-up each other through displays of power and cruelty.

Of course now I seriously want to draw Fenris with apples after that banter... LOL. I've replayed MotA .. umm.... 6 times now? I only played Legacy 3 times, LOL. I keep going back and trying to get the best pairs. I absolutely adore Carver/Fenris and Warden!Bethany/Fenris and Aveline/Fenris. Of course Anders/Fenris.

I loved my aggro Hawke PT, and I got the "plucky" comment on that one too. I don't think it is personality specific? My diplo was kind of "meh" (as always), but my snarky was hilariousness in a box. Loved it.

Yeah, a lot of people get frustrated or burnt out on the kink_meme as far as stories. There aren't exactly many "epic fills" on there. Just one-shots mostly. Which is okay for me, but sometimes I do want to read an epic story.

Luckily Tash, Ursula, and Heiden (*pokes*) don't seem to disappoint me with their stories.

I wish I could find more time and motivation to write one of my own with Gwenya. However, I just don't think I could find the stamina to go from Act 1 - Act 3. I just... I think I would lose interest or something half-way. Plus, busy as hell with work lately. *sigh*

I miss being able to do a run-through of DA2 and stay up all night posting/drawing/writing. LOL.

*Giggles*:P Believe me... the last word my Hawke(s) would use is "worry" when it comes to being knocked up by Fenris. More like "You're way too sexy, you frikking freak of nature, come and devour me NOW like the wolf you are! Rawr!"

Sorry. Got carried away. Fenris has that effect on me.

Any point he may have had is lost in his towering rage.  The fact that he can still voice support for the templars after seeing Alrik and Karras especially tells me that his issues run deep.  Then again, I've thought the circle was a monumental injustice since DAO.

But, as mentioned, he was epic in MotA.  He might be hung up about mages, but he gets the Qunari.  Slavery by another name indeed.

Again his comments just never bothered me. I never truly took them so personally. The viper comment to Bethany or even the comment to mage Hawke... I just... I got over it. It's not that I give him a free pass for being angry or lashing out, especially after Hadrianna, but I do take his apologies to heart. Unlike most people who shrug them off or find them laughable I actually think he really means them, and I also think that when he says "If I appear ungrateful..." he is doing his best to be sincere. I can imagine Fenris never Thanks anybody, and it takes a lot for him to apologize, but when he does he seems sincere.

Especially after Hadriana -- "you didn't deserve my anger" and "I was not myself." His towering rage isn't so much towering rage as it is short bursts of anger/rage, and not so much at mages, but at specific mages and magic. It isn't "what do mages touch that they don't spoil," but "what does magic touch that it doesn't spoil," and that includes himself. He also makes the comment later "Is there anyone who's life has been touched by magic who actually benefits?" which gets a lot of flack as well. Still, Fenris makes the distinction between mages and magic quite often, and he respects Bethany and Hawke as a strong mage.

Merrill is walking a dark path, and he takes a "yes, ignore the tiger.. never mind that it is going to eat you. Sound advice." approach with her. He doesn't sugar coat it with Merrill.. he has seen many mages walk down that same path, and says as much to her. His "monster" comment and then the "I'm not glad she's dead" comment is actually a backhanded "tough love" comment akin to Anders' comment about how the world is worse off for having Merrill in it instead of Marethari. I don't disagree with either of them there, but I'm not a Merrill fan. I honestly wish Merrill could have paid for her own choices instead of someone else choosing to pay for her. Still.. another time.

Fenris isn't being outright hateful to mages there either -- He's glad Marethari is dead because she became an abomination. He sees Merrill as a witch and a monster because she is a bloodmage who made a pact with a demon to gain power (any excuse will do, remember?)

I'm not saying his issues don't run deep because they totally do. "If I seem bitter.. it is not without cause," but his rage isn't something he shows very often or outwardly to everyone. If anything his rage issues are rather miniscule. He contains his emotions most of the time, but he lets you know about his experiences and opinions. If only because he doesn't want Hawke to be naive about mages.

Hello aldien! It's been a while since I had time to post, but I have stopped in to read so I'm not so far behind! Thank you everyone for pointing me in the right direction for good fanfic! It is truly hard to find. I just started new game with F!Hawke mage, planning to rivalmance this go round. Never went that route before. After reading this morning, I can't wait to do MoTA!
