It's a lovely poem aldien, very well written.

On that note I have never seen Fenris as a poetry writing type, or even ever that expressive about his feelings lol, seems more an Anders cup of tea. I don't really hear Fenris in it. But don't let my opinion stop you! I mostly only read smut. very classy, I know.Posted Image

Uhg, trying to post top Can't get internet to load photobucket.

When did posting top become a chore? Probably when we started recycling old pics, we need new stuff... work on that artistic people.Posted Image

Why do I get the feeling he just got dressed and is passing my Hawke a shy, post sexytimez smile? Oh yah, because I'm insane, and obsessed with the glowy elf, thats why.

Oh, I don't think that's insane at all. :) It's perfectly reasonable - at least as reasonable as we get on this thread! ;)

@darkrose- I hope you have a speedy recovery!!

In relation to VAs resembling their characters, I have another to add to the list of those who don't resemble them: Steve Valentine and Alistair. Also, Zev's VA looks nothing like him! But I agree with the notion that, generally, game developers match their characters' physical appearance (face-wise) to their VAs, because the voice should match the look. I'm glad they did that with Fenris. Actually, I'm glad Gideon is so darn good looking!

As to Fenris being annoying, let me put it this way: Fenris annoying me would be like me annoying myself. Apart from when he's really angry (post- A Bitter Pill), everything he says is always supported by a rational, logical reason. He's not one to hate and say "just because". He always has a good reason and I always agree with him.

Once again, there's no need for me to post anything more on the subject because Arquen (who is apparently my long lost twin brain-wise) has pretty much said it all!

Thank you! More than anything it's frustrating because control freak that I am, I hate not being able to do things for myself.

And I was totally going to mention Steve Valentine. :) He seems like a great guy, but he doesn't look anything like Alistair.

I'm the odd one out here, because Fenris's attitude toward mages gets really old really fast for me. I don't think he's any more rational on the subject than Anders is: both of them are taking their experiences and generalizing to an entire class of people based on how they were born.

The Gallows dialogue, to me, is important because of the first thing he says: "This looks like a prison." So despite the fact that mages are locked up in the former slave prison, with the lovely statuary, Fenris thinks that's acceptable. Even by the time we get to Act 3, his only concession is that Hawke's okay. His rationalization that most mages aren't strong enough to handle their power isn't really that different from Anders's insistance that since only a minority of mages fall to blood magic, no mages should be controlled in any way. Anders sees mages like Quentin as an aberration and ignores the fact that having that level of power leads to abuses; Fenris apparently sees Templars like Alrik as aberrations and ignores the fact that giving someone that degree of power leads to abuses.

Even with my non-mage Hawke, I can't side with the Templars. Meredith wants to annull the Circle, even before Anders. That means killing every single mage, including the 5- and 6-year-old kids who've just been torn from the families and locked in the Gallows. Even knowing full well that Orsino's a lying coward, I can't justify that.

Also... get better soon Dark rose! I don't have many M!Fenris fic reqs, but you know the kink meme is always an endless source of smut with some real gems hidden in there.

I could use some fic reqs too, lol. I keep reading the same ones over and over.

Thanks! I've been scanning the kink meme, and I have found a couple of awesome fics--both Fenders, oddly enough:

Avete Vos
AU where Fenris is a gladiator. He's still a slave, but he has enough status to have slaves of his own, one of whom is a snarky apostate from Ferelden. The authors did their research on the Roman Empire, which makes my little history geek heart beat faster. WIP that hasn't been updated in a while.

Volutions
Series that features an Anders I can actually connect with Awakening Anders, and a brilliantly-written Fenris. It's best read in order, which is why I linked to AO3.

Where I disagree here is that I don't see Fenris making such grand conclusions. He is the first to admit that 1.) Magic has its uses 2.) I do not doubt that some of them are good and noble men 3.) Absolute power corrupts, as they say, and mages have power enough already (that does not exclude other "normal" people with power, just makes a distinction between mages and normal people).

Also, I think it can be argued that he doesn't exactly find the Circle "acceptable" -- when confronted with it he will always ask YOU "what is the alternative" - Provide him one that isn't "fear, and danger," and he would likely support it. He asks Bethany if "the Circle here is really that bad," and she retorts "Do you have to ask that?" Yet, when she actually goes to the Circle she is quite content. Saying "the thought of going to the Circle is worse than actually being in the Circle." Even Anders will admit that the Circle offers mages training, something that even HE believes all mages should have.

Where I fundamentally disagree is that people inherently think that Fenris supports and condones people like Alrik and such while condemning people like Quentin because he is a mage. Fenris doesn't do this. He doesn't think or agree with what Alrik does, and he doesn't agree with what Quentin does. It all comes back around to the "can you stop with the all mages are evil diatribe for ONE minute?" -- "They may not all be evil..." -- There isn't one instance where Fenris makes some kind of grand encompassing statements that ALL mages are evil or that ALL mages deserve Tranquility or Punishment or abuses. Likewise, there isn't a time when he isn't wary of the Knight Commander or her Templars. He doesn't like either of them, but he will support the annulment (If not properly convinced) because you, Hawke, have shown him no other alternative. Annul the circle or let the mages run free and do what they want. He absolutely will not believe that it is a better solution to allow them to be completely free.

What we need for BOTH Anders and Fenris is a middle-ground option -- a "The circle here doesn't work," and when he goes "But what is the alternative?" You can actually GIVE ONE. Too bad Thedas doesn't work that way.

I just can't get on board with that mentality, and Maker knows people believe whatever they want so I gave up arguing the point. In the end as well it depends on interpretations. What other people read into his dialogue I tend to disagree with. I always include context and the whole conversation -- not just snippets of dialogue. Hence, I don't get so angry or offended. Fenris is logical and rational. He isn't off the handles prejudice. He is a bigot - in that he has strong opinions based in actual experience and knowledge, but he doesn't condemn all mages, or write them all off automatically. He just believes that the majority of them are to be feared, and that is not wrong.

Though I guess it is wrong if you believe that magic really is meant to serve man and not condemn him, and that the use of magic, even blood magic, doesn't lead to abominations or any kind of consequences that can result in world ending catastrophes (blight much?). Which, in that case, I just won't ever agree.

As an aside -- LOL at Fenders.. I've actually read a couple of "Fenders," but not that kind of "Fenders." I find their banter and back/forth so much fun to watch. The trolling and snark... pure quality. I'll probably give them a read. Though I don't much go for AU, but what the hell.. I'm bored.

The Mage and the Wolf, by Phoenike  = Not finished but it has 26 chapters so far, very slowly updated. But I think it's worth it. Is pretty entertaining, a little dark, her take on a rivalmance.

Snare, Rook, Caltrops, Motes, by littleblackdog = In that order, my favourite Fenris/MHawke characters, and one of the only stories I enjoy Anders/Bethany in.

I was going to hand over anything by the lovely Aroihkin, but I can see by the comments you are already a fan. God, I can't remember any others right now, and to be honest I don't think there is anything I have read that you haven't. I have the kink meme faved on the fills that have MHawke/Fenris, you have to sift through the Fenders that creeps in, like a creepy creeper, but tis' a small price to pay.

Its 3 in the morning, I am stuck on my Fem Hawke playthrough and I can't stop revamping the way she looks, I don't know how I ever made it through Origins without revamping my wardens every three seconds. I imagine Fenris is very:

"Mage, you're a mage!"

"No I am a warrior. You okay?"

*pulls out hair* "I swear you look different every single time I see you!"

"Thats madness, lay off the booze Fenris." *evil smile* 'I shall be the only one to use the mirror, no one must ever know it exists!'

LMAO Fleshy -- NO NO... I meant scenes and stories with Anders/Fenris -- I don't ship Fenders.. I don't think I ever could or will. I just.. can't get there.

Also, I change my Hawke's appearances at least 20 - 30 times during a PT, but more subtle changes. I don't exactly change them dramatically.

On my rival bloodmage PT I actually had this strange little thing that I incorporated into her RP. That her eyes were a soft/hazel brown at the beginning of the game, but as she went further into blood magic and madness they would change into bright/red/crystal type color. Then as time went on and she restrained herself a bit (Fenris influence and all) they would change to a more brown/hazel color again. Mostly it was just because I kept taking her to the Black Emporium, but I ended up throwing it in as a head!canon aside, LOL.

Though if blood mage's eyes really did change color that would be an excellent way to track them, no? LMAO.

It's 4:22AM here and I am wide awake because I work nights and it is my night off. I'm SO BORED... Everyone is asleep <_<

Thank the fluffy lord cause I am beginning to feel a little alone in my Fenders distaste, there is just so much of it! Though I too love their banter in MotA mostly.

I dunno, this is getting ridiculous, maybe it's a blessing I am on Xbox and can't use mods, I already play with my Hawkes looks too much. Just my fem Hawkes to, I make my snazzy male Hawkes and move right aling, I may shave them eventually of give them more stubble for headcanons sake, but they mostly stay as what I originally do. My Fem Hawkes, I am in act one and have been all day cause I can't stop tweaking her, I'll think I have her exactly where I want then actually see her in a cut scene and tick off more thing that need to change, I mean she looks bloody perfect in the mirror but outside for some reason she changes. I am at the point that no amout of head canon can justify her hair, jaw, chin, lips, nose tweaking ways. She has become a plastic surgery monster. Posted Image

I dunno, if the Templars can't notice the staffs/robes/spells, right in front of them... then I don't think the eyes will make too much difference. Though it would be hilarious. Hawke finishes impaling herself for bloodwound.

Cullen: "Good job on killing those mages with me Hawke!"

"No problem, anytime. I hate bloodmages."

Cullen: "Me too, my you got a lot of blood on you! And, your staff, that you must just hit people with is covered in blood!"

"Ummm, yah, I... fell?"

Cullen: "Oh yah, I saw you fall... almost seemed like the blood floated around you."

*slowly reaches for murder knife* "Did it now?"

Cullen: "Yup, weird huh? Well here is your money. Have a nice day!"

"Oh yah, uh bye then... thanks."

Cullen: "Yah no pro... wait, your eyes? They are slightly redder then before. You're a bloodmage!"

Later that evening. Hawke is killed by Templars.

Templars: "And to think she had managed to hide it for so long, never saw her do anything out of the ordinary, and she fought with a stick and not magic. Good thing she forgot about here eyes, otherwise we never would have had proof. Foolish sneaky mages. They must think we're blind, to not hide something so obvious." Don't they know out motto?

Templars: We miss nothing!

ROFL... Seriously....

Where is it.. where is it....

http://www.halforums...mage2-jpg.2337/

It's true... even when you can outright confess to Cullen that you are a mage he's like "I didn't hear that..."

I'm not sure if they are willfully ignoring you because you are Hawke, or just plain stupid. Still, I always suspected it was just one of those things. I hate to say Cullen is that willfully blind/stupid. I like Cullen. I remember DG saying something about how that first year in Kirkwall and in Act 1 they wanted to do a bit of a story arc where Hawke had to deal with Templars. Unfortunately, it never made it into the game. Though that really kind of explains some of the in-continuity there.

Also, my version of Fenders... LMAO...
Posted Image

Don't worry.. my Hawke turned it to Ice.. the hilariousness of this moment, though.. hence the pause and screenie.

Anders: Suck on a fireball!

Hawke: Anders, no.. just.. no! I saw that...

Fenris: Watch where you are casting! Venhedis!

Hawke: Yes, Anders.. do watch where you are casting. I almost didn't catch that in time.

Anders:  I was watching. I was watching perfectly.

Fenris: Abomination I swear...

Anders: What? I was clearly aiming for the other guy. You just happened to be in the way...

Hawke: *facepalm*

Lmao: Oh Poor Fen, having jealous mage at your back in battle, fun. And the art!pic, I have to assume they are dumb, cause mage in the Gallows very first scene, I mean your IN the Gallows, all they have to go is not let you out, instead they help you get out. Although to be fair that was a guard, but a Templar is right there, above you, with a birds eye view of things.

My fave Anders/Fenris moment is during that cut scene in Justice, right as it ends and they snark at eachother, and then draw weapons! I didn't see the raiders the first time and was scrambling to the 'load previous save' button. I really thought they were going to kill eachother over me. Alas...

Edit: omg, that "Safety first bro" makes me giggle everytime I read it. and Anders: "Oh, I was Watching...." I would take them together with me everywhere, but I like to friend them both and it just doesn't work out to keep them togeher until I have them locked in. Posted Image micro managing the group for the win.

I'm actually inclined for them to just hash it out. Hawke as a mediator perhaps, but they are grown boys and can handle their own squabbles.

As for fighting over little ole' me... well.. never really had that problem since I always made my choice for Fenris quite clear. I usually choose the "You just don't know him" option when Anders gets all "are you sure you don't want someone a little more.. open minded?" Plus, I always take Fenris with me on that quest so he can pipe up for himself.

Anders likes to talk about Fenris behind his back, LOL. I like it how Fenris responds to him. I honestly wish there was more of it.

I don't think they could ever get to a point where they like each other unless one of them changes their views or outlook dramatically. Fenris will never back down on his abomination theory about Anders and Anders won't back down on the "Circle and Templars are bad and mages need to rule themselves" thing. The best they can hope for is a small thread of similarity that they can balance on.

Ala Legacy:

Anders: When I left the Wardens I swore I'd never spend another minute in the Deep Roads.

Fenris: "Left" sounds like it was a mutual arrangement.

Anders: Fine. I ran away, what's it to you?

Fenris: Ran away from the Circle, ran away from the Wardens... it sounds like a habit.

Anders: Running away from your family, straight to Danarius, running away from Danarius, straight to Hawke. Maybe we're more alike than you think.

Varric: I've always said so.

----

Which, I do agree with, and I would think Anders would have to be the one to actually make that kind of leap. Fenris will just.. never accept Anders abomination self. He is like the epitome of everything Fenris loathes. A mage who sacrifices themself to a demon/spirit/whatever for power.. even if it is power to pursue a righteous cause.

And Anders really doesn't care to actually try and convince Fenris of anything because he hates Fenris, and eventually just gives up on him and his "all mages are evil diatribe." Thinking "he has let one bad experience color his whole world."

Oh those boys...

And Tashy.. working on your story... I also have another one I'm working on.. and I'm bored.. and a bit slow to edit since I've been spending some R&R time with the boyfriend the last couple days. I'll get it done before this weekend. Hopefully today.

Oh boy I feel like I haven't been here in so long! Hi everyone!
On Anders and Fenris, I kind of love their fighting, because I'm a weird person who hates when people fight in real life but if I'm watching two fictional characters sniping at each other I'm all "Pass the popcorn, this is great!" and you can spot moments early in act 1 banters when one says something that you know is going to set the other off and you just want to set one or both straight but you can't and... oh, those two!

I've got some new Fenris art, mostly from my Ask Marric tumblr

REI! Welcomes back even if it is to run away again :(.

I actually saw that on your Tumblr.. I wanted to take you up on your offer to totally write that scene, LOL. I just... I don't think I can do it any kind of justice.

Though I kind of adore how Marric and Fenris troll eachother in their rivalmance. Marric's humor... <3.

I think it is important for people to argue and get it all out there in the open at times. Especially people who are so utterly opposed to one another. Hence, I would absolutely love a no holds barred debate the mages GO! between Anders and Fenris, LOL.

I always find it interesting to listen to the other side. Even if I never agree.. Even if there isn't a snowball's chance in Hell that I'm ever going to agree. I at least am willing to listen to people's arguments and justifications. I try to be objective in all things, but I've always been more brain than heart.

I think Fenris is this way as well, but man does he have deep seated issues. His hatred of magic and magisters and what mages are capable of colors his judgements, no doubt, but it surprises me how he at least is willing to listen to Hawke and not get all antagonized when Hawke doesn't agree with him. Unlike Anders' "I will MAKE you see!" Fenris is more like "think about it Hawke."

Though I do love the dialogue he says after Hadrianna. "Am I supposed to forgive, no matter how many times they hunt me down? Am I supposed to forget all the tings they've done to me?" -- the therapist in me yells.. "that's not.. possible, but it doesn't have to control who you are..." Instead my Hawke offers "If your looking for a reason why you can't move on.. this is it," and I *facepalm* -- Oh Hawke... no.. just.. no..Therapeutic communication FAILURE. Suppose it is better than "You may not wear chains anymore, but you're not free." Although.. I kind of love that response. So trolltacular, and not really wrong.. though SO NOT HELPFUL... LOL.

Right after Fenris kills Hadriana, Julian always picks the "Do you want to talk about it?" response. I know it's not the right thing to say, but he's so incredibly earnest and he wants to be supportive. Also, sarcastic!Hawke should be called inappropriate!Hawke.

I usually go for "Cullen is a complete and utter moron," myself. I mean, he's seen Hawke casting spells, and he still says "Mages aren't people like you and me." I always imagine Carver having to clap a hand over his brother's mouth to keep him from saying, "No, they're EXACTLY like me you blithering idiot!"

The lack of reaction to mages is one of the things that drives me absolutely insane about this game, because it completely destroys the immersion for me. If you're making a huge deal and centering the plot around the templar/mage conflict, and setting up Kirkwall as a city where the templars have all the power, having Hawke blithely casting spells in the middle of the freaking Gallows when he gets off the boat makes absolutely no sense.

It really makes me miss BG2, and the Cowled Wizards popping up all over the place. They were annoying, but at least it was consistent with the lore.
