Yeah as far as the Tumblr -- I just... "don't care a fig" for what people say there. I've given up a long time ago trying to figure people out.

I do like how they think we are all insane rabid fangirls that gossip like old fish-wives and see no faults in Fenris at all. That we cocoon ourselves in blankets of denial and delusion and defend "OUR MAN" until death claims us or we mentally snap.

Honestly, it seems all very "highschool" with the "DID YOU HEAR WHAT THEY DID/SAID" -- as if people from here don't actually have a Tumblr or you know... give a crap.

I'm usually up for good debate, and when people have good evidence and conjectures other than "Well, if your too blind to see it then I'm not going to explain it to you!" I am more than willing to listen and throw theories/ debate around. I used to love that about the BSN. How there were legitimately intelligent people here who could argue intelligently without going into "OMG WTF FROTH FROTH RABBLE RABBLE" territory.

Though lately, we don't really argue/debate much around here mostly because it's been done, and we all kind of agree or at least have our own reasons for believing what we do that aren't really subject to change much.

All that being said I don't care what people say/think/act/whatever -- However, I want to point out that Fenris is NOT perfect, and it is one of the reasons that I think people around here DO like/love him. In the same way people love/like all the Dragon Age characters -- NONE of them are perfect. Most of them have deep rooted issues/faults that are off-putting to people, but Fenris just fits that right kind of anti-hero, angsty, reserved and slightly prideful soft spot that I have for characters.

As for bi/tri/sexual orientation whatever argument. LOL.. just... LOL. I'm not touching that argument with a 10 foot pole (AS ALWAYS). Fenris can be romanced with a male or female -- but as I've always said Fenris isn't so much bisexual or gay or straight as he is Hawke-sexual. Whoever Hawke is -- that is who he falls in love with/ is attracted to. Regardless of gender.

Right on, Arquen. It's the characters' faults that make us love them so much. It's what makes them real. And if Fenris is anything, he truly is "real" in the sense that he's far from perfect.

Agreed, I would not love Fenris half so much if he wasn't a snarly jerk sometimes. The fact that you never know how he'll react to you dialogue, I really love that, I mean all the other characters it's super easy:

Aveline= Diplo>Sarcasm
Anders= Diplo>Sarcasm
Varric= Sarcasm>Diplo
Isabela=Sarcasm>Diplo
Merrill= No clue, she responds well to pro demon works, I don't usually get any or many points from her convos.

^^^ All these characters respond positively to Diplomatic and Sarcastic Hawkes and rival aggro Hawkes.

Fenris: Whatever flavour appeals to him at the moment. I get smushed with rival points with diplo, my head gets bitten off with sarcasm, he smirks and laughs at my aggro. Or he laughs at my snark, smiles sweetly at my diplo and pushes my aggro down a flight of stairs. I mean the guy responds like a person, not like a game character where you just best suit your Hawke to their personality.

I love him. I sometimes froth and drool at him, but I also know he's a slightly bi-polar mass of bad baggage. Like my Hawke says to Varric "In all the years you've known me have I ever given you the impression I was turned off by crazy?"

Fenris' faults are a big part of why I   him so much (besides the fact that he is ridiculously good looking). I could give a flying fig what anyone thinks of my fangasms and I will proudly label myself 'fangirl'. Maybe my tshirt should say "Fenris Fangirl" above his lovely smirky smile. (actually kind of like that idea now that I said it...)

Mage!Hawke works to show Fenris that not all mages are bad, that some can even be trusted; works to break down his bias and hatred of mages which has built up for so long after the abuse and torment of being a slave of a magister; I think that is my favorite aspect. Any!Hawke showing him friendship (and love if a romance) which he has probably never known at that level*. Romance!Hawke standing by him through his personal struggles and inner confliting emotions, standing by him even as he walks away and tries to push Hawke out of his life.

Fenris has a very 'real' personality, the way he was written is brilliant. The voice acting is superb. I also enjoy how he reacts, not always as expected, how Fenris gets caught off guard by a compliment or how he goes off on a tirade only to reel himself back in and apologize. Peel back those layers and see the depth of his character, not just some 'emo whiner who hates mages'.

My fanart is F!HawkexFenris simply because I'm a girl and roll female hawke/warden/shepard about 75% of the time. I also don't dislike Izy, I just get jealous easy (one of my faults).

bah, I'm rambling now and this is turning into a wall of text saying points others have already made, I'll stop now.

*this is part of the reason why I  Alistair as well

Actually it was a prompt I filled for the kink-meme a long time ago, but I liked it and always meant to go back and edit it for publishing.

I've... never written smut... Maker help me Dragon Age has corrupted me in ways I can't even describe.

Also, yay for fics, and yes send me mooarrr Heiden! All of these are inspiring me to write my own, though, and that is dangerous. Between my art muse, my writing muse, and my philosophy muse I can't keep up with all the demands.

I agree with you.  I came to this thread to see how others reacted to him.  I love that we can all have different opinions and still like Fenris a lot.  Our life experiences colour how we see things. That's what so interesting to me.  And good gracious Fenris is far from perfect, who here has said that, again it's his character growth I love.  Well that, the eyes, and the voice too    As for the orientation bit, well I don't care really.  It's good eveyone as choices

And believe me Arquen, I've been corrupted by this thread too. I've never ever written smut before, and something tells me there'll be quite a bit of that in my fic. Funny thing is, I'm a prude in every way possible, so I'm kinda already getting nervous about being "creative" in the bedroom with Fenris:P I'm gonna have to borrow ideas from other published works!

Yeah...I have 'stage fright' now. That was very good! I feel the same way as you do, Solana. Fortunately (or un-), it will be a while before I can start publishing Act II, so I have some time to either talk myself out of writing it (not likely) or get the heck over it and write it anyway. 

Would it be out of line to say I'm a smut-writing-virgin?

@ Ursula - Me too - I wrote my first very tame Zevran thing a few weeks ago. Its hard because you dont want it to sound awkward and finding/using words that you feel comfortable can be a challenge. I read piles of smut ranging all the way to straight up porn to find the language Im comfortable with. The second part is expressing what is going on in your head - its scary letting ppl inside your head ... especially on those topics. LOL

Do it anon for awhile until you feel comfortable - I liken it to putting a bag on your head and taking off your clothes in public for the first time. It is easier to express everything you want to if you are not concerned with what ppl think.

Ahh I still get nervous posting smutty things, even if I do have a terrible gutter mind....

I think that's what freaks me out the most. Being a prude, the very thought of writing smut and having people read it, knowing that I was visualising all of that in my head is a scary thing! It makes me feel... I don't know... dirty? Lol. You can so tell I'm a prude, can't you?

@Ursula I'm glad I'm not alone! It is a bit like stagefright, isn't it? That's a nice way of putting it.  And no, it wouldn't be out of line to call yourself a smut-writing-virgin, because that's just the word I was looking for to describe my predicament!
