I didn't notice since I play on the 360 and the camera doesn't get that close to it.

I don't get my buddy at all, he didn't do any of Fenris or Isablla's personal quests! Argh. I told him he needs to do another playthrought right now and do it the correct way this time. Posted Image I always do every quest... can't help it... the completionist in me I guess.

Arquen wrote...

And also.. HOW DID YOU NOT NOTICE. His opening scene has a very up close shot of his back, and I went O.O is that exposed skin through that armor? That's fantastic!

I play on the 360 so graphics aren't as good plus I'm using a very old tv (with a built in vcr) that is maybe 24" so it really sucks for details (I also cannot read ANY of the codex entries). Yes Yes I know, sucks. I will be buying a 'proper' tv after the holidays.

I just feel so bad that the console users can't see what us PC players do. I mean, it also depends on your PC, but there is just nothing like playing a game on a huge monitor (mine practically IS my tv) and just taking in all the little details.

Plus I am such a detail noticer anyways. I tend to pick up on things other people rarely notice. What types of shoes people are wearing, if they have earrings, and I will often make some kind of comment and others will be like "I didn't even notice that!" So, it isn't like a new thing for me, but I couldn't imagine playing Dragon Age or Dragon Age 2 on the console. Though, I admit, I have spent a lot of money and investment into my rig, and I play MOST games on PC.

Only exception being my Halo and FPS (COD and such) -- mostly because it is either exclusive or just downright don't want to play it on the PC (like COD). Played Batman: Arkham City on the console, but I AM SO BUYING the PC version when it comes out.

Sorry, went on a little off-topic rant, LOL. However, the point is I love all the little details in Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2. I love Fenris's facial animations and his Fenspressions, and just the whole Fenris package. It makes me somewhat sad that other people don't see what I do when they look at him. Not necessarily the fangirlness and attraction to him, but the character growth and depth that I saw when I did my first PT. The physical attraction to him was actually secondary. Usually I am in the more masculine, tall, Male Hawke kind of field when it comes to physical attraction. Though not so much into beards, LOL.

Fenris is just an anomaly for me. In all the ways. I've never met a Fenris before, and I just got attached. REALLY attached.

Uh, if I played this game (or DA:O or Mass Effect) on my computer.... I'd never write again.

LMAO, I actually get a huge muse boost from it. My eyes are overloaded with the awesome to such a degree that my muses go "HARK! What is this light that shines with the ferocity of a thousand rainbows and sunbeams!? Quickly, we must bombard this brain with ideas now for this is too beautiful to not inspire!"

Okay, my muses seriously don't talk like that, but I swear they get kicked into high gear every time I play a new game on my PC that has ALL OF THE BEAUTY and details like Dragon Age. I mean, I hadn't written fic or done any kind of art in YEARS before playing DA2 on my computer.

Also, screenshots. Gahh.. how can you guys live without screenshots? I have.. well.. lets just say thousands of them. I can't imagine not being able to Fraps or screenshot.

Speaking of, I found THIS one in my library today, and I thought it was fantastic. Act 2, pre-romance, pre-QB and Hadrianna. "I see how you and that elf look at each other." Muahaha.

Arquen, I'm just easily distracted. If it weren't for the forced breaks from the console, I'd give in to the temptation.

Though... I'm beginning to get really tired of never being able to patch the bugs. I may have to move to console eventually.

lol when I did this -- just recently actually -- I didn't do ALL my screenshots with Fenris in them because that would be like... a million...

However, I did do screenshots that I felt were "keepers" -- I separated my Hawkes out into separate folders though so there was some sorting before-hand. If your screenshots are just hodgepodged into a mass folder then I would suggest going through and taking all the individual Fenris screenshots and separating them out first. This isn't too bad, but it does take a while to sift through. I just used thumbnails and any time I saw white hair I moved it over, LOL.

After that you can go through the files again and judge which ones are "keepers," and if you want to move any into the "Fenris" folder.

You can also subcategorize your Fenris folder.. You know.. Fenris romance, Fenris combat, Fenris back, Fenris cutscene, Fenris random...

OKAY I AM STOPPING NOW... I'm starting to feel like people are looking at me funny :?

AND yes I may or may not have a folder named Fenris back -- that strip of leather that exposes his spine... it.. intrigues me... you know.. RESEARCH. heh... yeah...:P

Thanks for your advice ... I'm gonna start separating them now because they are all hodgepodded into one massive folder .. gets very confusing at times .. especially if I can't see Hawke in the scene & am not sure of which PT it is!!  That is what I get for constantly switching back & forth between characters!!I will start collecting the "keepers" because it IS way TOO many to keep every one of them!!

Thanks for the back mention and the pics, I had never noticed that about him ... even though I do play on PC (laptop) ... I really need to start playing closer attention.

Wow...I may just be lucky then. I had noticed the back detail on the armor, but then, I'm playing on a 42" LCD ... maybe that's the (XBox) ticket?

Yum.

I probably will end up converting to PC someday. I would like to do screencaps and fraps. (For those great caption and tribute vid ideas...ok, I only have a couple of those, but it would still be fun to do!)

Nope, that's what I've got, too.  Apparently, I just don't around enough to watch him.  I should do that.

Oh my gosh... yummy back!! I've definitely noticed it before (brain twin, I too have a knack for picking up on even the slightest details) and I agree with you all on the armour thing; he has the most beautiful and unique clothing I have ever seen on a warrior. Usually, warrior's are strapped in all kinds of heavy armour and such, but his is just so light and fitted and unique and intricate and gahhhh so darn beautiful!

I love how you can see snippets of his skin through small parts of his armour. I find it... enticing. And I simply adore the subtlety of it as well. Yum. Just yummm.

Also, I'm known to have a thing for lanky, androgynous men. I never noticed that about myself until one of my close friends pointed that out a few months ago. So the M!Hawke type (tall, muscular and manly) has never been my type. When I showed my friends a picture of Fenris, they all went like "why are we NOT surprised that you've fallen for yet another one of your androgynous types?" Although, I do hate how people mistake him for a girl when they first see him. Or how they keep insisting that he IS a girl. Gah. A lot of them say that, if it wasn't for his voice, they would've thought he was a girl throughout. YEAH RIGHT.

Ignorant fools.

Sorry.Got a bit carried away there. Now I have to disappear into my studies again.

How can people think he's female? Just look at his shoulders and the shape of his torso, even from the back I'd know he was male. Wasn't it also said that his body model has broader shoulders then the default male elf model?
But then I'm like you Arcane_Solona, I've always been attracted to people that had qualities most people assign to the opposite gender. I love women with muscles and small chests who are kind of on the rough and tumble side (hello Sarah Connor in T2, Hello Aveline) and I love men who are slight and have 'pretty' features and not very hairy (though DA fandom has made me far more accepting of body hair then I used to be!) it's the combination of traditionally feminine and masculine features on one person that really gets me for whatever reason.

This - especially for the guys. I don't get how Fenris could be taken for female in any way without some seriously bad eyesight and some seriously bad assumptions based on anatomy (shoulder width etc).

I love his armor!  It's very distinct and yet is half way functional, it seems like most of Dragon Age armors aren't but that's a discussion for another place.

It's funny I usually never go for the androgynous type.  And yet I really like Fenris but I'm drawn a lot to his character's story and his growth as a person.  And of course his voice...I love the voice.  Ahh, the power of the voice.

Fenris a girl?! that's crazy... I don't even see how someone could think that, he may be lanky but he is still quite masculine, especially his face.

speaking of his voice, I noticed Mr Emery mentioned he has a girlfriend on twitter
ah, mah dreams, they have been crushed

I never understood why people mistook him for a female either. I guess it is due to his smaller jaw and more angular/lithe features. Still, he is androgynous in his facial features, but appears more masculine than feminine to me. Perhaps it is the lips? The largeness of the eyes? Yet that nose and especially that jaw are more masculine to me than feminine.

I never saw "female" when I looked at him. I saw beautiful, but that is most elves. I've seen anime where literally I couldn't tell if it was male or female and ones where in the Japanese they were male but got changed to female for the American dub. THOSE are the ones I go "huh?!" but never with Fenris.

People simply see his white hair, lithe figure, and pass him off as a pretty-boy. It isn't wrong to call him pretty, but he isn't really a boy. His features are elven, and like all elves he has that small face with large eyes, but his whole build is broader shoulders, musculature but lithe, and even with his posture there is no way you look at his body and can't tell he is male.

I think it is simply a kneejerk reaction to seeing him and having a stereotypical attitude of what constitutes male/female. As in males should be tall, broad shoulders, square jaws, and big muscles, and females should be small, lithe, with obvious breasts and an hourglass figure. When presented with something that doesn't fit this "standard" people go "Well.. it must be a girl because of ____________"

So yeah... TL:DR --> Fenris is Fenris and people have stereotypes built around what male/females should look like. Yet, when you look at Fenris he is obviously more masculine than feminine in his features, and I never thought once that he was so feminine that he could be mistaken for a female.

Just another quick suggestion as to the purpose of the gap in the back of Fenris' armour - I doubt he acquired it while on the run, it's quite good quality and clearly fitted to him specifically.. So it must be a leftover from his days either on Seheron, or with Danarius, the latter of which were spent on Seheron - and Seheron is a jungle. The gap could, very simply, be ventilation.

And a bit of headcanon - all of my Hawkes have the most difficult time not tracing their fingers down that bare line of skin while wandering about Kirkwall with Fenris.

Truthfully, I don't even see him as androgynous. He just doesn't look that ambiguously gendered to me.

He's beautiful as opposed to rugged and many people are judging him against a human ideal when he isn't. He's the most masculine and the best looking elf in the game. So if he's feminine or ambiguous, then what does that make the rest?

Well, I think both he and Zevran (pre DA2 Zevran) are often accused of being effeminate or androgynous.  They are both clearly male and definitely masculine.

Jenthann... however....

Oh, I totally see him as androgynous. But maybe that's just me, because I LOVE me some androgynous ;) (Jared Leto, anyone? With that lanky physique, long hair and incredibly pretty blue eyes? RAWR!).
