Lol. I tend to hide my gamer-ness, especially at work. People just tend to glaze over if it comes up. All blank stares and "you do what now? Games? Rpgs? I... don't understand..."

haha yeah I know the feeling although I don't hide my gamer-ness at work, only one of the warehouse guys understands (but he's only into shooters). We get packages from amazon a lot, one came in not addressed to anyone, so the secretary opened it and sent the message company wide 'did someone order an xbox game?'. Not even a few minutes later a 3 people had already replied 'oh that's probably april's'. *blush* My boss even got me xbox live point card last year for xmas.

I am so behind on tech, still using an old razr, I think I would die if I could knew how to set up a fenris ring tone. I'd let everything go to voicemail just to hear it over and over...

Happy Turkey Day to those that celebrated!

I get most of that as well but I persevere.  I work in the financial industry, so mostly suits and stuffed shirts all after the same end goal - and huge egos abound!
So, I like the "wtf?" looks - and it's nice to be different.  And I have you guys and a hubby that (sometimes) understands!

I already have the Halo theme as my ring tone, and my SMS messages are "revive me" from Gears of War.  I usually get BBMs (Blackberry Messenger messages) though, and they are the Halo teleport sound.
Thanks to Meezy & Obsydian, I now have Fenris "I am yours" as my SMS!!  And he is my wallpaper on my Blackbery.  I have several pictures that I rotate through of him.  He is also my wallpaper at work.  People always ask, and I always tell them who he is.  The eyerolls about but what are you going to do??

I am also now the "ask her about games for my kids" person at work.  Super.  <_<

lol. I'm not ashamed at all of my gamerness. I've got Joker as my texttone, the Doctor Who theme as my ringtone, the Torchwood theme as my alarm, lol. and some Portal themes as various other things on my phone.
Talyn from Farscape is my phone background and I have a Garrus shirt.
I have an N7 logo on my car... and am fast working on aquiring more. I'm a proud nerd.

lol @Cosmo... glad you got that all straightened out.

Well, I started another DA2 game this week - *another* female mage. Probably aggressive, because I love that dominant tone (and I'm actually thinking of siding with Petricee for once, because I've never done it before). Going to go Fenris friendmance all the way through this time, I've only ever seen the rivalmance to completion. The one time I had him on friendship I ended up with Isabela, and last time I wanted to try the Anders romance out. I could go Merril, but the thought disturbs me. I'm going to try and make this my "canon" playthrough (like, every other playthrough I do), so it's back to the Fenris romance for me. I do love it the most. Couple of queries, though, for those of you who know the Fenris romance much better than I:

- How much of the romance actually alters based on friendship/rivalry?
- (This is just because I can't remember) Does friendshipped Fenris automatically assume you're anti-mage, like how rivalled Anders does, irrespective of your actual in-game choices?

A mage siding with Petrice isn't so much of a stretch since a mage Hawke should have NO SYMPATHY WHAT SO EVER for the Qunari (even cute Elven assassins) given how they treat mages. I really don't see how you could "friend" romance Fenris as a mage unless you leave him home during any mission that could help a mage.

It's quite possible to friend Fenris with a mage. Very possible... I've done it for 2 PT -- I have 3 mages.

I sided with Petrice once, but I reloaded. It isn't even about the Qunari, but the fact that she leads you into a trap and then has the audacity to get away with it -- the Cleric thinks it is just some Qunari strife, and she continues to remain oblivious. I just -- wanted to KILL her so bad, LOL.

I have to go to work so can't get into the whole Friendmance step by step guide, however, the wiki has some very good info about where you can pick up friendship. Most of it is from his convos. You can escape his first convo without gaining a ton of rivalry if you pick the right options. You can max his friendship at LATEST in mid-act 2. I've done it, and been VERY pro mage. You might have to leave him for a couple of quests like the Starkhaven mages, but you don't have to leave him behind for everything.

no matter what sort of person i play... Petrice makes me want to hurl very heavy things at her head. like rocks.

and yep, i've got a friendmance going at near 100% with my mage.

I try NOT to metagame and play a character as "naturally" as I can, which makes it difficult for me to get many friendship points. I never romance him myself since I don't play gay characters (my GF does and squees over him with both genders), so eventually we just agree to disagree he turned on one mage and left Meredith to return for the other.

I never blood mage since I can't stand how there is no mention of it in the game.

As for Petrice, I CAN'T STAND HER AT ALL, but my mages tend to view her as the lesser of two evils. If they could they would try to get the religious fanatics and the Qunari into a box and push it into the sea.

So, you do realize saying you "don't romance gay characters," is a huge hot button trigger that is no doubt going to incite flames?

I also don't think you have to metagame with Fenris. You can play naturally, there isn't much to it. If you want his friendship you kill slavers no questions and regard magic with caution. Hell, you can take Fenris to Feynriel quest and still come out neutral or with some friendship.

My favorites are being mean to Merrill and getting money from Thrask, lol. It isn't terribly anti mage, but is aggro Hawke all the way. Still with all Hawkes YMMV. Still, the RP excuse is individual discretion. Fenris, despite some opinions, is possible to friend. People can use whatever excuse, but it is very possible. It is my canon, and Gwenya is pro-mage.

I got Fenris' friendship maxed up in my pro-mage playthrough by the end of Act I, but it wasn't exactly a 100% pro-mage playthrough because I cheated a bit, meaning I was basically I HATE MAGES, THEY SHOULD ALL DIE (even though I was one) for the majority of Act I, got Fenris' friendship maxed out, then immediately went pro-mage and ALL TEMPLARS DESERVE TO DIE for the rest of the playthrough. I didn't feel good doing it, but I did it anyway *shrugs*

Speaking of gay romances, it's funny that this came up because I initially dropped by to express my desire to write a gay romance fic between M!/Hawke and Fenris! But I think I'll do that once The Wolf's Imprint is done. Simultaneously writing two stories really does not work well for me.

I think it's fairly easy to do this if you play your mage!Hawke a bit like Bethany (whom you start at 50% friendship with, and so we can assume are fairly close to), as in you feel a bit guilty about forcing your family to be on the run and think that maybe you should have been in the Circle and things would be easier. Most of the anti-Mage quests involve sending people to the Circle (Feynriel and Grace et al.). You can RP it that by Act 2 Hawke has realised just how atrocious the Kirkwall Circle is compared to others, feels guilty about her earlier choices (and so let's Feynriel go as opposed to making him Tranquil, etc.) This is probably how I'll do it, since I'm also going to try and get Carver to friendship for once.

Don't know why it should be a problem. I've been a supporter of the s/s option being placed in Bioware games (including the m/m option FINALLY being introduced in Mass Effect), and I think the "all bi" LIs introduced in DA2 was the best way to give greater diversity with limited resources.

I don't play gay characters (normally) because when I do I'm just choosing different options to see the result and those games rarely hold my interest all the way through. Plus, I am living with a woman who LOVES DA2 and ME2 and is more than happy to explore EVERY m/f and m/m combo in the game and I can just look at her cut scenes. I usually only have two or three "canon" play throughs with Bioware games.

I don't think that is even possible. Even if I do get on a roll and start getting friend points with Carver, it's like he internally starts thinking, "HEY! My brother/sister is manipulating me to like him/her! How dare s/he!" and 50+ rivalry points suddenly appear.

Hehe, well it is *statistically* possible now, with Legacy you can gain exactly 155 Friendship points, which is exactly the right amount to get him to 100 Friendship. I think you only need 30-50 Friendship or so for his 'Friendship dialogue' to trigger in the later encounters. It is tricky, though. And I enjoy antagonising him, so I usually end up firmly on the rivalry side. But there are some dialogues like the Family History gift/quest where I just thought the friendship dialogue was so sweet. I seem to make a habit of friending/rivalling 4 characters each on every playthrough. Last time it was Aveline, Varric, Anders and Isabela on friend and Fenris, Merrill, Sebastian and Carver on rival. It just seems to end up that way.

Of course, I never romance Fenris at all. I like to visit the sites dedicated to the characters I like role-playing as Hawke's friend or rival.

I am a big Carver and Fenris fan because it is nearly impossible to get them to kiss my Hawkes' tushes the way I role play them. I respect that. For similar reasons Merrill and Bethany can get on my nerves at times. The rivalry romance with Merrill saved her character for me, I loved Hawke getting chewed out.

I actually haven't played a mage yet, so I didn't know that. I do know that I like that Fenris has your back even if he disagrees. :)

I love that about Fenris too. His loyalty is really incredible (if you've got him at max friendship/rivalry, that is).
