I had no idea that a character could turn on you when I got the game. Sadly, Fenris didn't survive on my first go round. He's stuck with me since then, though.

You know what I did not like about MY first time playing DA2? No hot angry rivarly sex scenes with my mage. We never go to see the special markings my mage Lady Hawke made on his back. I am sure it gave him some new super powers.

The Fenris that plays with my rogue Sir Hawke has some interesting markings on his shoulder though. They line up with his teeth. Those were tenderly applied though since they were friendship lovers.

Yeah, the Fog Warriors was just so tragic to listen to. When he says "It felt inevitable. My master had returned and this.. fantasy life was over," I felt my heart jolt because I just... I get it. I know that feeling. Not the master, but that feeling of inevitability. That loss of control over your own life, your own fate. That feeling of waking from a dream... only it was real. That moment haunting you forever.

"I looked down at their bodies... " and he can't even finish because there is no word for that feeling, that emotion.

This is one of those moments that dwells in my mind, and is truly defining of Fenris. It's so profoundly personal .. "i've never spoken about this to anyone.." I can't help but feel both proud of him for taking that step of trust and truly priviledged that he would share something like that with you.

I've actually always wanted to write a fic about Fenris's time with the Fog Warriors and on the run. The growth and trials and challenges he overcame before we even knew him.

Just remember, Fenris doesn't want your pity.

No, he doesn't. Which is why we give him love instead.

Which is great, because we've got an insane amount of love to give him ;)

I love that Fog Warrior story too. I love the expressions on his face as he recounts that time. Fenris is seriously the most facially expressive character in the game (Anders is really expressive too, just not as much as Fenris).

I think the major thing that struck me most about Fenris' in-game model is just how expressive he is. He has loads of nice little expressions, like the rolling eyes. I like expressive people, which might be one reason I romanced him on my first playthrough, despite being a mage (he was also the only character on rivalry, other than Carver). That and Gideon Emery. Seriously. You're right, Anders is expressive too, but Fenris has the best range by far. And there are so many awesome lines ("I'm an escaped slave, and an elf, doesn't that bother you?", "And *I'm* an apostate refugee, doesn't that bother *you*?"), plus Varric's concerned talk about him is absolutely hilarious: "You know he's covered in spikes, right? Like some kind of angsty porcupine." Just remember that there were totally no puppy eye. Oh, and kiss before the last battle: A.Mazing.

I just love the Fenris romance, part of me wonders if it's just because it was the first one I did and so everything seemed fresh and new and bright, but a lot of me just thinks it really is the best one. I love the tension, intimacy and passion of it, and his fog warrior confession is one of the deepest moments of the relationship. The cinematics designers did a fantastic job with his expressions in that scene.

Gah, I need to find the time to continue my new playthrough!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that he has the best theme tune (and possibly the only theme tune).

He does have the only theme tune; no other character has a theme named after them on the soundtrack. It just goes to show what a special and valuable character he is. I was not surprised at all when I came across his theme song; he's definitely worth it.

And his romance really is the best. Everything you mentioned- the tension, intimacy, passion, loyalty and trust... it's a beautiful and realistic relationship. It definitely takes its time to progress, which makes it seem genuine.

Gah, I could go on and on about the Fenmance!

And some people have the nerve to never recruit him!!  How could they?  His dialouge is fantastic and those cut scenes - especially when he's opening up to you - ah *swoon* - he's just so - LOVELY.  How my Hawke has the restraint to not throw him on the ground and rip his armor off right there is a miracle itself.

Funny - mine did the same thing!  I wish the scene was a little more developed and didn't "fade to black" so quickly - more like the ME1 romance scene.  However, it's Fenris - which makes up for it!

Well not everyone wants to romance him, LOL. Which is understandable. He isn't the romance for everyone, although I have tried the Isabela romance and have seen all the other romances (both rival and friend) on YouTube and they just... don't compare for me.

It isn't because it was my first romanced character, it is because I love the development of it. It feels very real to me, and at the end it feels so utterly satisfying. Makes you wonder how Hawke can stay on their feet, let alone go into battle, after that kiss. Then you know what is waiting for you, and what you have to protect, and it's just so goddamn beautiful how someone can go from not relying on anyone or anything to falling in love with someone, and being so attached to them that they can't "bear the thought" of living without them. C'mon you don't see that kind of loyalty and development every day people. It's fantastic.

As a friend as well Fenris is the best one you could hope for. He's so damn honest and loyal, and sticks by you no matter what if you earn his respect and friendship. You have to earn it, and that makes all the difference. If you don't care to earn it then he doesn't care to give it. You don't care about him and he doesn't care about you, but once you get into that shell, see the cracks, and he lets you in.. he's really an amazing person to know. Tells you everything like it is, never lies to you, doesn't manipulate you or try to lead you on with ulterior motives. He is "what you see is what you get," and yet so much more than that underneath. Then even if you rival him he respects you, he needs you, and he goes to you for help and advice even though he has never once had the opportunity to discuss himself or his life before to anyone. He asks you, because he values your opinion. Even as a friend Fenris is one of the best you could hope to have.

As for the romance scene... I'm not terribly into all the explicit things, and while "fade to black" with no shirtless Fenris can be kind of frustrating.. the emotional development alone in that scene satisfies me every time. How you go from "Ready to do this.. ready to take this step..." to "I can't... I can't..." and the expressions and the emotions. I think it truly is a fantastic cutscene. Everyone else is a quip about their past, a "hey can I move in now," but Fenris is this emotional upheaval for both him and Hawke. Again, fantastic.

I'm stopping now. I could go on forever about this, LOL. I'm also very tired and probably very rambly right now. :?

Hmmm, I agree that he is honest to Hawke, but not always loyal, and I think that is a GOOD thing. One of the things I love about DA:O (if you don't game the system with gifts), DA2, and -- from what I'm hearing -- about ME3 is that the party members don't blindly follow him/her no matter what. Like I said before, Fenris was killed in my first play through (mage) and I found it sad but nice at the same time since it showed that how I played my character actually matters. My rogue almost killed him, too, but then he was able to convince him to leave Meredith at the Gallows.

I really like that Fenris has his own theme tune. Background music tends to escape my attention, but I noticed the music that accompanied many of his cutscenes rather quickly. I found that it sounded so very sad but yet beautiful, especially the first part. Somehow it doesn't sound half as good when I play the file just in media player. It just needs Fenris for the perfection. :)

My e-mail notification is now.... "Mages is glass houses shouldn't throw fireballs". I LOVE IT!! And I love when it goes off and people start looking around to see who's talking or where it came from... I just smile pretty at them. ;)

I used to have Captain Jack Sparrow saying "I feel all sullied and unusual"... that was a head turner!

Exactly, exactly, exactly, exactly. Seriously, it is the most satisfying romance I have ever had the fortune to come across. It's flawless because it is flawed. Because it is real. Because it's slow and gradual and believable. And most of all, what really, REALLY nails it for me is how detached and closed off and fiercely unwilling to let anyone in Fenris is at the beginning, only to have him profess that he can't live without Hawke at the end. And then that passionate, emotional kiss. It's so filled with love and sincerety and urgency; you can really tell that Hawke means everything to him. Everything. My God. If that isn't perfection, I seriously have no idea what is. I'm getting all emotional writing this!

I too could go on and on and on and on. Oh, Fenris. I freaking love you. Way, wayyy too much.

Was on my way to work today and Fenris's theme came up on my playlist. Whenever I hear it I find my mind replaying cutscenes, and hearing Fenris's voice in my head. The music itself is so fitting and fantastic. Has this sad, melodic, haunting voice with overtones of strong melody and rhythm. It emanates strength in its beat, but such sorrow in its melody. I love it, and even without being in game it is so fitting of Fenris. My love for the composer. Even mage's pride, while similar is just different enough to not get those Fenris images in my head.

As for Fenris's loyalty. It is earned, as I said. Once earned, it is the strongest bond from any companion. He takes his "debt" to Hawke so seriously, and makes personal decisions to stand by you even though he disagrees with you. No other companion does this. The others balk when you say they are wrong. He considers your point. He is seriously the best friend you could hope to gain, but you have to gain it. It is a hard fought relationship, and because of that it is more meaningful in the end. IMHO at least. He will turn on you, only because you haven't proven to him that he should reverse his views and help mages. His reasons when he comes to kill you make so much sense to me. "I oppose what they hope to become," and he doesn't think Hawke knows what they are fighting for or trying to achieve. He doesn't fully believe in you. That line.. "either you die, or I do, but either way the story ends here." - my heart. In my opinion if he betrays you it is more because you let him down, and couldn't convince him that there is more to it than fighting for the mages, and that Hawke is doing the best they can to do what is right. Otherwise, he does what he thinks is right, and he dies doing the best he can to do what is right. Again, beautiful character growth, but Maker.. killing him ... I just... why? How? It's so easy not to have to do this.

Ok so funny thing just happened in my office - I had my phone on extra loud, and most of my colleagues just heard "I am yours"!  One guy just came in and said "excuse me?"

Oh Fenris....

Urghghghhgghh Anyone mind if I vent?

I'm confused o.O (and somewhat pissed off). I am playing Best Served Cold, and I left Fenris out of my party. Yet who does Karan say they kidnapped? Bethany.

I don't get it. I didn't romance or flirt with a single other soul save Fenris. He's at 100% friendship. I did all his quests. I did the follow up Questioning Beliefs quest after Alone, during which he apologized to Hawke for leaving for three years after their first night together. Hawke forgave him (in his cute sacrastic Hawke way) and they kissed and made up.

The reason I am not TOO surprised this happened is because during Isabela's Questioning Beliefs Act 3 quest, when she offers Hawke a spot on board her ship, there was no "But what about Fenris?" option. So I had a sneaking suspicion my romance had been bugged.

I mean ...wtf else is there to do?! This game annoys me sometimes with all its lousy bugs.

No, the game is not bugged, at least not the first half.

In order to get Fenris successfully kidnapped, Hawke's sibling had to die at the Deep Road. I know, it's cruel to the extreme. But that's how it goes. I did that in one of my 10 pt. I adore both of them, watching them die because of the taint is torture.

As for the Issie's response. I really wasn't sure. The only consolation is she will ask Fenris the same thing later, inviting him onboard the ship. Theough Fenris replied: "Your and your invisible ship?"

Quite fun really.

Thank you Thank you Thank you for assuaging my fears!  To be quite honest with you, I was about to put the game aside in disgust :pinched:  Yes that is how important my Fenris romances are to me

I mean, I was actually thinking about playing Legacy and MOTA again, but then I also thought ... why not just start a whole new game ... AND ROMANCE THE FENMEISTER ALL OVER AGAIN :o

Yes I need help :innocent:

Yeah, not bugged moto -- you have to NOT have a sibling, otherwise the sibling ALWAYS defaults as the one kidnapped. Then it goes to your LI, and if they are in your party it goes to your next BFF.

As for the Isabela response, it doesn't trigger, and I've heard about this before. For some reason the dialogue in Act 3 just doesn't include Fenris. It may be a bug, or it may be they just left Fenris out of the dialogue tree because you have a chance to not get back with him in act 3 and they didn't want to make 2 different dialogue tree options trigger there. However, I've never had it trigger, though I have had the dialogue with Varric trigger before.

So, there is that. BTW Cosmo that picture is one of my favorites. SmaiLika is my freakin hero when it comes to drawing Fenris. She does him so beautifully, and VERY in game realness. I just.. I want to be half as good as that one day and I might be able to die happy. >.<

LoL at "I am yours" -- my boyfriend actually put Fenris's theme as his ringtone for ME. So when I call him that is what comes up. He says because suddenly everything having to do with Fenris makes him think of me. Bwaahaahaa.

Isn't it funny that the only one who seems to not really mind Hawke's romance with Fenris (and this probably extends to all romance-able Companions) is ... Gamlen?!

I don't know what he says to F!Hawke, but his "So you're into ELVES, are you?  I guess I don't have to ask which one of you is the GIRL" is, while fairly rude and snarky, not necessarily a sign of strict disapproval LOL

In fact, in my heart of hearts, I like to pretend the old fella's a little jealous!

At the Gallows scene, and I got my "You're the most important thing that ever happened to me" scene, so it looks like the romance is all good

Uh hi, sorta newish to the socialboards and I'ma Fenris-holic. Probably because he's the only one I find tolerable for Hawke...or my weakness for broody men I just wanna smack in the (fill in bodypart)
