@Arquen- I think it's so cool that your man's ringtone for you is Fenris' theme! Gahhh if only someone would do that for me! And about the loyalty bit, can I just say that I complete agree? I can? Great. Yeps, the main thing that attracts me to Fenris and makes me really value him as a character is the fact that you have to earn his trust, loyalty and friendship. I love how he basically does a 180 and actually helps you defend the mages (if you choose to do so) in the end. It's amazing and it's a testament of how much Hawke has been able to affect his views and really influence him and change his mind. He doesn't stubbornly stick to his hatred for mages; he is always willing to see both sides of the argument and consider them before making a decision, and I l really respect and admire that. All other characters (especially Anders) just don't take it well at all if you oppose their views or call them off for something they've done.

Fenris... I am yours.

Haven't had the heart to let either sibling die (yet). Finished last PT a few moments ago, became viscount finally. So, it's time to reload DA: Origins since I want each Hawke to be an import,looks like it's warrior time (only class I haven't tried yet). I am so ready for another Fen-mance, it's been too long... and I suppose I'll let dear Bethany die this time. Can someone advise the timing on when to leave Fenris behind so he is kidnapped? Should I just avoid taking him as soon as Best Served Cold quest starts?

@AbsoluteApril , leave him behind as soon as it started is what I usually do. I've managed to get Anders/Merrill/Carver/Bethy/Issie kidnapped so far. Not sure if Seb could get kidnapped at all. Going to try Varric next.

Umm... 1st - @ Solona -- Fenris really never changes his views. He really doesn't do a 180 to help you defend mages. He always maintains it is a mistake. "It is a mistake, but I will not abandon you." He doesn't do it because he feels it is the right thing to do. He does it because he believes in Hawke, and he believes Hawke is trying to do the right thing. Even if he doesn't agree he will enter himself into "hopeless battle defending these mages..." because he doesn't want to see Hawke do it alone. He wants to be there to help because Hawke means that much to him. He makes that choice to follow you regardless of his own feelings, and his own views, not because he's changed them. He still opposes magic, and complete freedom for mages. I think he always will, but it says more about how far he has come in that he makes a choice to stand by Hawke regardless. To risk his life for a cause that he doesn't fully believe in or agree with, simply because he believes in Hawke, and respects them that much.

Also, the kidnapping thing -- I've had Carver, Bethany, Fenris, Isabela, Anders, and Aveline kidnapped. You can have all of them kidnapped in Best Served Cold if you reload and play your cards right. If you have a sibling it always defaults to sibling. If you do not then it defaults to LI, and after that it defaults to highest approval. All companions are eligible. Even Varric and Aveline though I think because they are not LI in the game it is harder to accomplish because they are usually overshadowed by someone else.

Fenris's so incredibly embarassed reaction. I love it! Also, Fenris is the only one who  "took out four men before they subdued him." Everyone else doesn't have such claims. They get taken in their sleep or something. Still, in that scene Fenris is just so calm and disappointed in himself. Blood magic being used on him, and I expect him to wake up seriously ANGRY, and instead he is like "crap.. thanks for saving me, Hawke... I'm sorry I let you down." Still, the reaction is so fantastic, and I head!canon a serious discussion afterwards. I'm thinking it was just a serious shock back to reality that he isn't as invulnerable as he thinks (which he says), and he probably thought it was Danarius or slavers or something coming for him, and so fell back more on that self preservation stoicicism than outright anger. Makes me somewhere between "rage!" at taking him and "FENRIS don't worry I got you, always!" I smile like a fool when he is like "It is comforting to know that I have you at my back." Always, my dear Fenris, Always...

As for Gamlen -- he says the same with Female Hawke as well, and yeah it shows more of his racist against elves self than really anything making fun of Fenris specifically.

Also, Leandra says "I see the way you and that elf look at each other," and she isn't upset. She says "I don't like you hanging out with that pirate woman of yours." (paraphrased) In a clearly disapproving tone. She says "those elves your friends with.. are quite strange, aren't they?" which is more a curious observation tone than a condemnation. This "Leandra is racist" thing came up before, but I don't see it. She seems to have more disapproval of Isabela than Fenris or Merrill. She doesn't really seem to be racist at all, and actually seems supporting with her teasing tone. Like "ohh.. I see how you look at that boy... You've got it bad..." sort of tone. LOL, To which I see Hawke going: "Oh, Mother... please.. I do..not.. THERE ARE NO PUPPY EYES, MOM!" LOL.

and *blinks* that's MY Screenshot, April. LOL, maybe I should start tagging them . Though it's cool.. I know when they are mine, LOL.

Finally @ Tash *hugs* I'm soooo SORRY! Come to the thread! We miss you! I've been wondering where you went. Figured Skyrim or Tumblr or another place like everyone else, LOL. Glad to see you're back!

 @Arquen Yep, my bad. He doesn't do a 180- he just stands by Hawke and respects his/her decision while still maintaining a firm belief that mages are dangerous and should not be free. I guess what I was trying to say was that I never, ever imagined Fenris defending mages when I first played the game, so it was a very pleasant surprise to see that he would go to any length to stand by Hawke and maintain his loyalty. It's amazing how far he is willing to go for Hawke, even if it means defending the very thing he hates and fears most in life.

How many of you tried all the kidnap alternatives?

In my first playthrough, Bethany died, as I had no idea I needed Anders along to prevent that, and I'd brought Fenris so that I could have a tank (and because let's face it, Fenris is almost never out of the party).  I did learn of the kidnapping in advance, though, so I left him out at the crucial moment so he could get kidnapped because I liked the idea of riding to the rescue.

And then I felt terrible, because Fenris, honey, you do not need to apologize to Hawke for being kidnapped.  You killed four of the [explitives] before they managed to take you down with blood magic. And even if you hadn't, it's still not your fault.  It's theirs.  You didn't fail Hawke by being kidnapped.

So yeah, I really wish there had been the ability for Hawke to tell him that.

Now, in my Templar-supporting playthrough, I let Bethany die again, because as much as that hurt, there was no way I could have gone through with supporting the Templars at the end otherwise.  I haven't made it to the kidnapping with that one yet (it's crawling glacially slowly, since I'm horrid at playing warriors, they simply aren't that much fun to me) but I'm undecided whether I'll let Fenris get kidnapped yet again or not.  It does make a fantastic chance for even a diplomatic Hawke like my pro-Templar Hawke to use red conversation options for once, but on the other hand, watching Fenris be ashamed for being victimized and not being able to talk to him about it hurts. :/  I may just see who would get kidnapped when I have everyone fully friended (Aveline, Isabela, Varric, Sebastian) or rivaled (Anders, Merrill)  and I have Fenris with me so that he's not elegible.

i LOVE that Leandra is happy for you and Fenris. warms my heart. of course, Coffee, Black is now my headcanon.... so thanks to that, Leandra is the coolest mom on the planet anyway. The only thing that I'm not taking from that... is my absolutely LOVE of Sebastian. If Fen weren't around, my gods I would adore that Scottish bastard so hard. and his hatred of Anders and the fact that he and Fenris get along so damned well... they're total BFFs in my headcanon.

It isn't because it was my first romanced character, it is because I love the development of it. It feels very real to me, and at the end it feels so utterly satisfying. Makes you wonder how Hawke can stay on their feet, let alone go into battle, after that kiss. Then you know what is waiting for you, and what you have to protect, and it's just so goddamn beautiful how someone can go from not relying on anyone or anything to falling in love with someone, and being so attached to them that they can't "bear the thought" of living without them. C'mon you don't see that kind of loyalty and development every day people. It's fantastic.

As a friend as well Fenris is the best one you could hope for. He's so damn honest and loyal, and sticks by you no matter what if you earn his respect and friendship. You have to earn it, and that makes all the difference. If you don't care to earn it then he doesn't care to give it. You don't care about him and he doesn't care about you, but once you get into that shell, see the cracks, and he lets you in.. he's really an amazing person to know. Tells you everything like it is, never lies to you, doesn't manipulate you or try to lead you on with ulterior motives. He is "what you see is what you get," and yet so much more than that underneath. Then even if you rival him he respects you, he needs you, and he goes to you for help and advice even though he has never once had the opportunity to discuss himself or his life before to anyone. He asks you, because he values your opinion. Even as a friend Fenris is one of the best you could hope to have.

As for the romance scene... I'm not terribly into all the explicit things, and while "fade to black" with no shirtless Fenris can be kind of frustrating.. the emotional development alone in that scene satisfies me every time. How you go from "Ready to do this.. ready to take this step..." to "I can't... I can't..." and the expressions and the emotions. I think it truly is a fantastic cutscene. Everyone else is a quip about their past, a "hey can I move in now," but Fenris is this emotional upheaval for both him and Hawke. Again, fantastic.

I'm stopping now. I could go on forever about this, LOL. I'm also very tired and probably very rambly right now. 

Wow spend a few days playing Skyrim and Saints Row the Third, and I missed a lot.

This is why I love Fenris' romance.  Overall it's why I love his character.  I enjoy the process of Fenris finding himself, and I hated that expression but right now I can't think of a better way to put it.
I have tried most of the romances, Anders is the only one I don't romance, and I like his the best and Izzy's the least.  And I love Izzy, but her romance to me is a bit shallow...it just doesn't appeal to me.

Only have done Merrill and Varric and just youtubed the rest. Based off main Hawke in which Bethany died for the same reason as Harle's did. 1st playthrough I only maxed friendship with Anders, and Sebastian and maxed rivalry with Merrill. Anders and Sebastian were in my party, so Merrill was the one to be kidnapped. 2nd ("clean up") playthrough I also managed to max friendship with Aveline (learned about the bug workaround for Captain's Condolences), and Varric (oh, so that's where his gift item was), so Varric was kidnapped. It didn't have the same kick as Merrill's imo. Merril has that waif and moe quality, plus her line "You're a better friend to me than I deserve" really works on rivalry with dead clan type Merrill.

My next Hawke is a mage Hawke that kills off Carver. "He could become a grey warden." "No! I won't force him into such a miserable life." I've been debating on who to set up for the kidnapping. She's an Anders friendmancer, so there's that choice. A part of me really wants Fenris though just for this:

Yes, I have a Hawke who is going to do this. I like having variety among my Hawkes. She's set up as a mage who actually does want to become a magister and rule over non-mages, but she's Diplomatic so she puts on a sweet face and manipulates people. The main reason she sells Fenris is to "gain a tevinter magister's favor". In headcanon epilogue, she and Anders flee to Tevinter and circumstances lead to her killing Danarius and inheriting his assets. Things play out similar to Magister!Hawke fanfiction in which the slaves come to love her and Fenris is extremely devoted to her. The closing scene kills me. "See, Anders? He is much happier now and he's even willing to support our cause. He's better off this way, don't you think?" Ugh. Ugh. UGH. I hate this girl so much.

Plus it pretty much just doesn't make sense canonically -- I mean, if there was a chance for a rescue you wouldn't get a nice little note from Danarius containing a thank you and a "we wiped his memory, and now he's back to his old self" thing.

It's hard for me to just hand-waive certain things for the sake of head!canon or roleplay. Granted, I don't mind playing a horrible, manipulative, and awful person, but when it comes to selling Fenris back to Danarius. It just WILL.NEVER.HAPPEN. in any of my playthroughs. For no reason.

Plus, why would he want to be with someone who did that to him? He doesn't remember them? This somehow makes it "better." He's a slave. To have slave Fenris and not the Fenris that I got to know and love. Nope, I would rather see him dead than a shell or husk of his former self. Ugh... I couldn't do it. Not for anything. I watched it on YouTube and that was enough to make my stomach churn and I think I actually felt physical pain at watching that utter breaking of will/spirit/soul. I said "well, F that..." and that was the end of it.

On a happier note... Solona my pic >.< LOL Yeah, I did that. Took me forever too. I'm currently doing another one. Will post soon. We needs more Fenart.

I never suggested Gamlen was being racist; I guess it can be seen in that way ... though it's hard to compare since we don't literally have different SPECIES of people the way they do. I guess it would be akin to saying, "So, you and that Hispanic boy ... I guess you'll be eating a lot of TACOS for dinner." LOL I don't know; I guess I just always saw it as Gamlen trying to find something mean to say to Hawke because he's a bastard, but deep down he doesn't really disapprove of the relationship at all. Gamlen's a complicated character, I think; wish we could've seen more of him... I really love his "Greatest Treasure" quest and I'd love to hear more from his daughter, too.

So the "I guess I don't have to guess which one of you is the GIRL" is said to F!Hawke, too?! That really makes no kinda sense...

About the Fenris getting kidnapped thing; I've done it before, and I have to say I was underwhelmed. Hmm, saw the video of Anders being kidnapped, and at least he says something cute to Hawke (something about how pretty his/her face looks), and Fenris is just like, Dude, thanks for being there for me. I was like, wow Fenris, you suck so hard at romantic moments. But then again my Hawke did just stand there like a douche instead of running forward and embracing his love the way I felt the moment truly called for... *cough* gosh if I rewrote this game it would be nothing but a 24 hour lovefest with only a smattering of actual fighting >.> I'm so bad.

When I first became a FenFan, I did a google image search and saved my favorites to a folder (which rotates through as my screen saver at home) - you have some of the most spectacular screenshots! (subtle hint to post more... heh)

@moto - Yeah Gamlen is kind of an ass. I wouldn't doubt he probably is a bit racist toward elves, living in Kirkwall and being part of that 'society' for so long. There is definitely racism in Thedas, elves are particularly discriminated against terribly. I mean, I guess since they are elves they aren't really the same species. Still, it is a different race of people, and so I call it racist. It's pretty much Gamlen just calling Fenris a girl.. which is.. ridiculous, but yeah... that's Gamlen. It is more obvious with male Hawke, but still ironically funny with Female Hawke. Especially an aggro female Hawke, LOL.

I should do more screenies April. I have thousands, LOL. I can only imagine that going.. poorly.. if I tried to edit them all. Usually I just wait for someone to bring something up and I go find the screenshot from that scene. *shrug*

My feelings exactly which is probably one of the main reasons why I haven't been so eager to play this girl. Also to clarify, there never was supposed to be a rescue. After the fiasco at the Gallows, she and Anders fled to Tevinter for sanctuary as well as to find supporters for their freedom fighting cause (recall Fenris's comment on how the resolutionists were likely recieving support from the Imperium during Faith). This eventually leads her to meeting with Danarius. Their relationship had been cordial until the power hungry -expletive- backstabbed her and so they pulled the standard sanctioned duel, winner takes all thing I read about so much. Not sure if it's canon, but Feynriel did comment that his master dueled another magister before. As such inheriting Fenris had been a bonus, not an objective. Also, his memory is wiped and neither she nor Anders have any inclination to restore the mage-hating Fenris of Kirkwall, so they keep him on as an eager and willing slave. Ugh. I gotta go wretch in a wastebasket. Excuse me.

Aye, that's me. Ugh. Puppy eyes. Don't get me started on that <insert various expletives here> picture <_<

If I recall correctly, Gamlen's reaction to a f!Hawke with Fenris is something akin to "So you're in to elves eh? Well it takes all kinds". I don't think he's being intentionally racist, he's just being Gamlen. I don't think he has a filter between his brain and his mouth.

@ GhostMaiden: Simultaneously proving Fenris completely right about mages and power and manipulation, LOL. Sorry, nope. Even as a story where you inherit him. He's just slave Fenris. Also, always in the back of your mind is the knowledge of WHO he is outside of being a slave. It would cause paranoia to say the least. He will serve you because he has too, but there is no "will" in it. It's a broken doll. Someone would really, REALLY, have to hate Fenris to do this. Not even worth it. Nope. Not in a million years. Also, as much as Anders and Fenris hate each other I don't see Anders being able to stand seeing Fenris like that either. It's one thing to make a crude and harsh comment when you sell him back, but a completely different thing when faced with the actual reality. In essence Fenris is Tranquil, and I don't think Anders could live with himself or a Hawke who did that to him for NO OTHER REASON than to gain power and influence. Which is just what Fenris *says* mages do.

Yeah.. nope. Not really feasible to me, LOL.

@Ranorm -- LOL I say that about ALL my Fenris pictures, and my art in general. Yours is excellent! I love the eyes. I love the colors and textures and shadows and .. it's really, really, good. I Fav'ed it for Maker's sakes.

It's hard for me to just hand-waive certain things for the sake of head!canon or roleplay. Granted, I don't mind playing a horrible, manipulative, and awful person, but when it comes to selling Fenris back to Danarius. It just WILL.NEVER.HAPPEN. in any of my playthroughs. For no reason.

Plus, why would he want to be with someone who did that to him? He doesn't remember them? This somehow makes it "better." He's a slave. To have slave Fenris and not the Fenris that I got to know and love. Nope, I would rather see him dead than a shell or husk of his former self. Ugh... I couldn't do it. Not for anything. I watched it on YouTube and that was enough to make my stomach churn and I think I actually felt physical pain at watching that utter breaking of will/spirit/soul. I said "well, F that..." and that was the end of it.

I have to agree I couldnt do that to him even when I was on the
Anders-express....something about him being a victim going back to his
abuser makes me just plainly think "Ah f-hell no!" If anything we would
tie up Danarius Reservoir Dogs style and let the healing process begin.
