Except one it seemed. Hawke could barely stitch together what was going on. At first it sounded like a battle cry. Hawke's head reeled and spun from the one too many alcoholic beverages consumed at the hanged man earlier that night. The sound grew louder, a rumbling voice, deep and sharp and LOUD outside the window.
Hawke couldn't take it anymore, and any effort to cover the sound by placing one's head under a down pillow had failed. Hawke stormed to the window, "WHat in The NAME of Andraste's--- "
But Hawke couldn't finish that sentence... blinking rapidly instead to try and make sense of the hallucination before their eyes.
"Fenris?" it was a choked whisper that escaped Hawke's lips...
The elf was on his knees, clearly inebriated (if that even managed to halfway cover the state he was in). Hawke remembered him stumbling a bit when he had headed home. Clearly he had continued with another few bottles of wine even AFTER that. Now, the elf was in Hawke's yard, on his knees, wine bottle in hand, and was obviously the source of the commotion.
Another battle cry ripped from his chest "HAAAAAWWWKKKEEEEE"
Hawke winced... "FENRIS!? What in the name of Andraste's flaming ass are you doing!?"
Fenris suddenly looked up, his green eyes glittering up even through the darkness. "Hawke! There you Are! Good, I ... I was..." he looked around, apparently realizing where he was for the first time. "I'm sorry Hawke. Clearly this is a bad idea. I.. I should leave..." he slurred.
Hawke laughed. "Just come inside, and for Maker's sakes there are better ways to get my attention than screaming my name outside my window. I swear, you drunk is dangerous for your health and mine."
See??? Perfectly HEAD!CANON-able... muahahaha.

Although it would be funnier if the two jokes involved Fenris and Hawke telling the jokes.

I actually have to side with Harle on the rest of it. Fenris's abilities don't seem to be offensive towards mages, per say, and his magic resistance is no doubt not an accident. However, I don't think he is a mage killing machine, but more an everything killing machine. The lyrium no doubt gave him some magic resistance, and that would be helpful in a place like Tevinter, but his original purpose was as a bodyguard, which means taking out anyone that Danarius wanted, or that would hurt Danarius. That isn't just mages, and no doubt Fenris was also used to defend against Qunari, which are not strictly mages either. No, I think he is a more versatile weapon than just for mages. Pretty much what Harle said in terms of skill tree. He doesn't really have skills geared toward killing mages specifically, but he does have defenses against them.
Also, yeah... an AU can't really be head!canon because the characters in an AU are separate and exist in an "alternate universe" that by definition isn't canon for the game or the characters. So, yeah... there is that.
As far as the lyrium tattoos.. hmmm.. I just don't think it's possible. Templars get addicted to lyrium, and even in its crystalized, raw form, it can be distilled but the least lethal way is potions, and those are still addicting and still have terrible side effects. To etch that into your skin would cause some kind of reaction no doubt. The lyrium would be absorbed somewhat seeing as contact with lyrium seems to cause reaction (much like mercury can be absorbed through contact with skin) when people come in contact with it. So, I just don't think it can be done unless one can find a way to take out the negative side effects of lyrium, but I'm sure the Templar Order won't like that one bit.

Incidently, I have to wonder what correlation exists, if any, between people who refuse to let Fenris kill Varania, and people who make sure to bring Anders to help Bartrand and then have Varric let him live. Do the two segments overlap to a signifigant extent? If not, why? How about people who let Fenris kill Varania? Are they more or less prone to saving Bartrand's life? I could waste so much time studying these pointless questions . . . >_>
hmm interesting... so far I've let Fenris kill Varania every time. I've also let Bartrand live except once when Anders was not in my party to let that little bit of remorseful Bartrand show through. It could also be part sympathy towards Varric since he's known his brother for so long whereas with Fenris, Varania is pretty much a stranger (even though he has that small dawning remembrance upon seeing her)... plus the fact that she says she wants to be a magister seals her fate in my Hawke's eyes, well, as far as Hawke understands, that is everything Fenris hates. I guess it's the remorse that Bartand shows that gives the change of heart to let him live.

@ Arcane_Solona, Obsydian: That's not really what headcanon means . . .? Headcanon doesn't mean an AU idea you like, it means something that isn't specified within the canon which you consider to have happened. For example, one headcanon would be that the red cloth around Fenris' wrist is actually Hawke's underpants that Fenris grabbed on his way out of the room. Coffee, Black cannot be part of headcanon because it and the game are completely seperate, aside from sharing characters of the same names and some similar personality traits.
(Don't get me wrong, I like Coffee, Black! It's entertaining. But It's not compatible with actual canon. You can't have barista!Merrill and Isabela living in actual canon Kirkwall, for example.)
mrr. i know what headcanon means. i dont necessarily mean the story, per say. i mean the attitudes of the characters. i'm not a huge fan of a lot of the characters in the game. Isabela annoys me and Merrill.... i really wish i could love her. but the blood magic thing just irks me so much.
I understand that its an alternate universe. its a different time and a different style of life. I get that... i didn't mean that the actual events of the story are my headcanon. Just, now in my head, whenever I interact with someone, I generally kinda frame the personality of the character from the game in the personality of the character from the story. if that makes sense.
And that particulary Garrett Hawke (while being just like me. which is weird and scary) is now the canon for my Hawke. Not a barista, but an awkward, sarcastic, silly, happy boy.
make sense?
and now for more Fenris.

Makes perfect sense to me, Obsy, because that's exactly what I meant as well. I didn't mean head!canon in every single sense of the term. There obviously wouldn't be a barista Garrett and a photographer Fenris in Kirkwall. It's just the personality traits that I sort of headcanon.

I just.. will refrain from posting my comments on Lacrimosa. I read it, and I found it sad, but no... I didn't cry either ren. I'm starting to think something might be wrong with me. All these sad fics and I am just.. well.. I don't have the same reaction you guys do. Then again, even in my real life people tilt their head at me and go "seriously?" when things they cry at come up, and I don't even tear up. *sigh*
I feel similarly, Arquen. It's pretty hard to get me to choke up. I just don't (or very rarely do). I don't think anything's wrong with either of us, or with the 'easy criers' (my mother was one, and she was one of the most courageous people I know). People just take things differently.
Arquen wrote...
To jump in on Varania. I killed her every playthrough. The only playthrough I did not kill her in was the one where I let Bethany die in the deep roads. Only because I wanted to say the line "I know what it is like to kill your own sister," and Varric chime in with "it's not worth it." It was moving, and I loved it, but it wasn't for Varania's sake and it wasn't because I felt Fenris should let her live. It was because my Hawke believed that no matter how depraved and horrible a person is, if they are family, they should be spared.
Of course then Varania turns around and **** twists the knife and says "you competed for them.." and I just wanted to kill her all over again. Honestly, that bit she says is just being cruel. *snip*
For me the best thing is my Hawke saying "Fenris does as he likes," when she asks HAWKE to "please, don't let him do this." As if I would stop him. As if I would step in and make the choice for him or supersede his own choice. No, "Fenris does as he likes," and I'm okay with that.

Arcane_Solana wrote...
Varania's fate depends on my mood when I'm playing. If I'm in a reasonably good or okay mood, she lives. If I'm pissed or broody, she dies. To be honest, I think she deserves to die too. To betray her own brother like that so easily, all for personal gain.
**** you, Varania. That's what I always say when she explains why she did it.
You know, I used to let Varania live, for reasons I bolded in Arquen's quote above. However, I just...can't get past the betrayal of Fenris for what are likely a Magister's lies. To me, it seems really screwed up that a complete stranger (Hawke) whom Fenris has no reason to trust at all ends up being far better for Fenris (and far more loyal) than a blood relationship. From now on, it will probably depend on my mood and the tone I'm setting with that particular Hawke.
That said, I used to not think I'd be able to let Fenris kill her. I was wrong.
*swoons at some of the latest art* Very nice finds!
At least Exams are at the halfway point. Now I just have to survive 4 finals next week. I'm taking the night off, and I've earned it.

Mustn't join Stormcloaks, no no no no! *Giggle* No more dead Fenrises, no no no no. *Cackle* Join Legion from now on, with their nice red uniforms and their nice, nice familiar voices. Very nice familiar voices. *More evil cackling* Feel bad for killing the Penty Optical guard son though-- very bad. He had the Fenris voice, but it had to be done. *Giggle*
I miss my marbles... they were all nice, and shiny. Have any of you seen them?
*Falls over* Must play DA2. I have abandoned Fenris for too long.

Ahh the voice. You know I love Fenris for so much more than the voice, but I can't imagine him with any other voice. It's almost unexpected how deep, steady, and fluid it seems. How it perfectly coincides with the manner in which he speaks. I seriously can't imagine another voice being as fitting.

1.) FFXII
2.) Skyrim, clearly. (Now, what words should he be using? That is the question...)
3.) Uhh... I think I need to break out of the fantasy genre for a little and try some horror games with zombies.
And it's not wrong at all... I was worried I was going to get a "you freaky ass woman" for thinking Fen's VA is one yummy hot-cake.
