I'm sure this topic has come up before, but almost 2000 pages is A LOT to look through! I was wondering what you thought about how Fenris feels about being an elf. In my recent game, he talks to Merrill and says that the elves history is not HIS, it's just history. I'm thinking he really does not identify himself as an elf first. I'm thinking his self identity is 'slave'. Or, ex-slave. I'm wondering how important race is to him. Any thoughts?

*Shifty eyes* You guys don't bite newbies, do you? I've been a lurker for a long while, just joined because this thread makes me laugh.
If you do bite, might I suggest a nice steak instead? I'm not all that tastey.

He says something about Andraste fearing magic because she fought against the Tevinters. And that if the Maker thought magic was bad, he wouldn't still gift people with it.
I only friendmanced him, but if/when he read aloud to my Hawke, I'm sure my sarcastic little brat of a Hawke probably fell asleep within five minutes of magey ranting
You guys, let's petition for a Hawke mansion dinner party DLC. Don't you know Anders and Sebastian would probably come to blows. Fenris would get quietly drunk. Isabela would start hitting on a confused Aveline. (Donnic would watch with a wistful smile.) Merrill pretending not to notice Carver's poorly disguised innuendos. Varric and Hawke engaged in a drinking contest, ignoring the chaos around them.
Oh, that would be grand.
Stop talking you hit gold. NOw take my money to fund this operation. (Also early happy new years and happy birthday to me tomorrow. Ill be sleeping for my last day of being drunk...spouse's birthday wish)<_<

Dammit.. have to work and there is good DISCUSSION. Why do you guys always do this to me!? LOL.
As for Fenribela -- I actually see it happening. Again because Fenris actually has some respect for Isabela. He returns her flirtations. He's a big boy and he knows his own limitations and himself. IF he didn't want to pursue Isabela or he didn't want her pursuing him then he would say so. He is rather stand offish at first "you've enjoyed many." Yet he also knows the difference between a truly selfish and heartless individual and someone who is just trying to be "twice as tough" as everyone else. He teases her. Even in MotA "That's our Isabela -- such a giver!" He has an interest in Isabela because of who she is and what she does. He doesn't ignore her faults, but he is willing to respect her as someone who is a good person underneath the facade she puts on. Again, respect is key with Fenris, and he can grow to respect Isabela. This can in turn grow into something more.
And I've run out of time. Quickie post because WORK.. JfkLDJFKL:JLEJJSL:JFLAIEIEOU!!!!

If you read DG's short story for Fenris, you'll see that Fenris (correct me if I'm wrong) notices a drunk elf in the alley or something. He reflects on how frustrating this is, how these elves are free and yet they allow themselves to be treated as servants and slaves.
So I think Fenris does think of himself as an elf, and he feels doubly frustrated as both an elf and an ex-slave. When he snaps at other elves, whether they're Dalish or city elves or what have you, I think it comes from a severe level of self-consciousness, of knowing that he is an elf, and that others will always see this about him, no matter what, in the same way that he can't seem to shake off being a slave ... it's a part of him.
