Greetings, long time lurker here - first time poster :)

Could anyone please tell me how I get Fenris to suggest a duel with the Arishok at then end of Act 2?  I always take him with me but the Arishok always says I must duel him, must be doing something wrong?

Welcome to the Fenris Thread!

Is your Izzy's friendship or rivalry maxed out or close to being so? Because if it is, she'll always come back, and that's when the Arishok forces you to duel him. If she's on neutral, she won't ever come back after initially escaping, so that's when Fenris will suggest it. Hope I helped!

Thanks for the welcome and yes that does help me.  I will probably do this in my current pt, totally lost on it tbh, it just isn't working out right for me and it doesn't feel right.  As I normally max out Isabela's friendship think I will "let her go" on this one just to see the outcome

Morning all! And welcome to all the new Fenris fans!

@Zeno - great job cleaning! I'll take my shoes off :)

And almost ToP...this made me laugh (those playing Skyrim will find it humourous) and I love the look on Mr Broody's face!

You also shouldn't win the Araishok's respect, because then he will also suggest the duel himself, I think. So only if you're not Basalit-an and Isabela doesn't return with the tome, Fenris will suggest the duel as a means to solve the conflict.

@ Cosmo: LOL, priceless.:D

If I remember correctly, you may have to be Basalit-an - that's the argument Fenris uses in suggesting the duel (you are one who is worthy of honor - by extension, worthy of dueling the Arishok.)

The only reason I mention this is in my unspoiled PT, Isy never came back, but I wasn't Basalit-an either, I don't think. (Either that or I didn't have Fenris with me - I don't remember.) At any rate, we just ended up straight-up fighting a LOT of Qunari in addition to the Arishok with the duel not even an option. (I didn't find out it WAS until Hubby's PT when Isy did come back - then I got the Fenris speech on second PT where I was Basalit-an.)

Hahaha! Arrow to the knee.... :D His expression just makes it that much better. I may steal it for future Luls. :P

Has anyone read some lovers on FF.net? It jsut updated and I died of happy times. She's doing 100 prompts and she just put up number 20.

Edited for conversation relavance-I never get Izzy to stay because I never bring her with me. XD So I always get Fenris's little speech. Loooove him. Though that duel as a mage? Lots of running. XD

i think that duel as most people is lots of running.... and yeah. i have the same problem with Isabela. i never bring her anywhere so i'm usually so close to neutral with her that she just runs away cause she doesn't care. *shrug* which is usually ok with me.
sadly i didn't even know there was an option for anyone else to fight the Arishok.

I am 100% certain that you don't have to be Basalit-an for Fenris to suggest the duel. It was my first playthrough, so no way I knew I could win the Arishok's respect and how. I brought Fenris with me (my friendmance) and he suggested the duel. I accepted, and then hated Fenris for the blasted idea.:P Dieeeee, big horned guy! Y no die?!

I'm actually taking me with her on this play through, so here's hoping she either likes or hates me enough to come back. :D I really want to get that clip and then happily dance around going 'Awwwwwe yea.' :P Then I get to do the quest where you slap her! :D
Also there's this, which sums up my mage duel wonderfully.

I like the top comment.

Varric's story = Fame and respect for Hawke forever.
What actually happened.
Hawke ".....so, when you tell people..."
Varric "I'll change the fight scene completely...."

Hahaha, yeah, that sums it up pretty nicely, and that's exactly why I hated Fenris for his stupid suggestion. xD

And getting Izzy to come back for you is certainly worth it. Her entrance is so awesome! She actually is a real sweetheart. ;)

Right? Made me laugh because of how true it was. Haha. And when 'Help' Flashed on the screen? I cracked up.

Getting to hear Fenris talk some more was worth the panic, I think. *Melts* I hear it's good. I haven't yet watched it because I am a spoilerphobe. :)

@Ursula- start writing the fic!! I sooooo wanna read it! I need inspiration right now. I've lost all motivation to keep writing my own fic. I think I'm gonna just stop at this point.
And that picture of Gideon is just priceless! Oh my gosh! Allow me to post it here for you, Nappa :)

Ah, Gideon.

Thank you Arcane, I swear Ill learn how to do it properly....once I uninstall Ubuntu and find my windows 7 professional again lurking in my storage bin.

Now onto the whole Basalit thing...I sorta lucked into fighting him him one on one, I know weird, yet I didnt know how to keep isabella, which turned into trololo on me cause she always exscaped with the book after I give her to old Arishok...Think it didnt take me till my 4th playthrough about payin attention to the rivalry and friendship when I had to kill fenris after I sided with the mages...after hawke got him back. It was like the perfect excuse for him to end the relationship;

*brings out the zamboni to wax the floor* That help Zen?

Fair enough! Like I said, it could be that I didn't have Fenris with me on the unspoiled PT (I know, I know...the horror! ;) ) so he wasn't there to suggest the duel in teh first place. That was probably the issue for me. In any case, I've been Basalit-an every PT since..

Still, DIIIIIEEEEE big horned guy! The sad thing is, at this point, with DLC gear and lots of practice especially as a rogue, it's not that bad anymore. ;) (So much so that it makes head!canon hard to believe, but it's staying head!canon anyway. )

Damn you Fenris, being all 'Nugh mages' :P Though it's so easy to rivalmance him. Don't kill slavers and side with mages. Bam, he's a rival.

Has anyone else listened to the companion cries for Hawke when He/she dies? Anders is Hearbreaking and Fenris pretty much commands you not to die. Teehee.

It does help, thank you! *Big grin* Always wanted to drive one of these things.

I admit the Arishok duel was a lot easier with my current mage.

My rogue killed him pretty easily, because he had Shadow spec and decoy breaks the Arishok. xD

I tried to find the exact blog entry where David Gaider commented on this, but I got a bunch of 'noise' on Google. While I'm trying to sort through it, my DA muse is going, "SQUIRREL!", so I'll put what I remember.

TGP (David Gaider) said in a relatively recent interview that those who thought Danarius and Fenris were intimate 'weren't entirely wrong'. If someone with a less-distractable muse wants to try to find it, or has the link handy, you can google "David Gaider Danarius" and get parts of the quote.

I'm leaving this as is because despite the fact that many of us have our own head!canons about this (and that there's still some room for interpretation), the topic may inspire some 'New Blood' discussion/debate and that's a good thing IMO. :)

*puts her muse in the cone of shame and keeps going...* *after she EDITS FOR GRAMMAR FAIL! *sigh*...*

My head!Canon exploded during this part, right around here. Then I was all 'Well goddamn you, Dick. He's MINE."

Then Fenris rips his throat out and I cheered. Has anyone here ever had the nerve to give Fenris back? I cannot do it. I don't think I ever will.

I would slog through all of them, but I have to go in about twenty minutes and I doubt I'd find it by then. However, I feel my head!canon is now confirmed. :D

Now I keep watching up clips. Thanks. :P

Oh yeah they have gone over that topic like Peter the rabbit in Mr. Mcgregoir's garden. But as for the 'close' questions.
I WOULD like to think he treated fenris more as a tool to kill and make him feel as emotionless as possible. Sorta like if you had a cyborg bodyguard....but no about 90% of the fandom like to think "naughty touch" time....which when I think about it is probably what happened offscreen. *shudders*

Maybe its the evil bastard in me, or the rpg nut who played final fantasy tactics and tactics ogre, but if I have someone as my bodyguard I make damn sure they are in pristine condition to watch my ass if I am asleep or catching a dagger in the head for dropping a duece(the number one killer for all mages)

It's only a little quote as far as I could find. The Wiki links to this: aicosu.tumblr.com/post/8674926256/you-never-told-us-about-the-da3-spoilers-you-got-from

Did you get the sense that Danarius had a really sketchy (*cough* intimate *cough*) relationship with Fenris? Yeah, you weren’t exactly wrong…. :/

So it is true then.:o Hmmz. I suspected as much, because you really get that hint... I would interpret it as sexual abuse, although Danarius speaks of 'affection' from Fenris' side... I will give it a little more thought.

Ahhhhh master thinking his actions are rewards for his puppets/slaves mentality....yeah time to burst the bubble and just soak in the truth like I originally thought...god why do I alays call on crap like that.

Although I am getting that weird vibe that the programmers really love screwing over the rwiters or writers not being told what the programming team is doing...oh EA.

Also if anyone has Syfy channel around 9pm tonight Mr. Gideon will be fishing up crocosharks in Primeval. Check local listings.

Wow, don't you hate when RL gets in the way of game time? Trying to get caught up. I had always thought Danarius was 'intimate' with Fenris because of the tone he uses when he asks about Hawke being jealous. I also think this is one of the reasons Fenris has such a difficult time with his emotions when dealing with Hawke. Danarius is a major slime-ball. I could never, ever give Fenris back to him.

I think Arquen or Arcane_Solana put herself through this 'for science', and I think it got YouTubed. At the time, I remember whoever it was reloading very quickly.

I know I have to go through and watch the Act III reconcilation after reading descriptions of it, and to this day I stll refuse to watch it, even on YouTube for Science. *shudder*

I don't think "intimate" is the right word; in fact, it makes me sick every time people use it.

Fenris was a slave. It reminds me of white southern slave owners (US) abusing black female slaves. Then the women would get pregnant and they would sell their own children. Sick sons of ****es.

So I don't doubt Danarius raped Fenris (because that's all you can call it), and that's why the scene where Fenris kills him is so damned satisfying.

Momo thats the whole point of why Danarius calls it "intimate". We all know its rape, but in Danarius land, or land of the magisters and all slaves owners, its their right to do...that.

Plus I doubt any slave born children would be sold off in the south versus here...though they didnt elaborate if said bastards were sold as barginign chips, given special treatment and raised as heirs(very unlikely) or used as blood sacrafices.

Also Danarius death was satisfying...for the first 10 seconds, but Fenboy needs to plan bigger. Im talking a four post bed, chicken wire, a knife in the gut and a kite spool.
You connect the horrible dots.
