As an artist myself I had to laugh at that....almost choked on my pinaepple chunks. Plus I dont think most women would complain if Fenris was pinching their ass. *looks at Cosmo, Arquen and moto cause those are the only names I can remember)
Ok I must say, wouldn't be thrilled with a guy pinching my ass. However as I wheeled around with the slap hand ready, and noticed those chiseled features and moss green eyes, I may hesitate. If Fenris spoke and regretted his actions, I'd be a goner. That voice....mmmmm....

@Ursula -- oh god I want to share head!canon so bad Asunder is killing me and no one read it! Gahh! My main, Gwenya is a mage - yes. She is friendmanced Fenris, but also supported Anders and, much to the after arguments of Fenris, let Anders join with them and didn't send him away after Jenga. Then then... FIGCYJCHRSSRGUHCKHVTCXUXGKHHKB ASUNDER changed almost everything for me. I mean, not really what Gwenya does, but where and how she does it. So much head!canon fodder!
As for the ass pinching, lol! If I were to answer this question honestly, I don't think Fenris would do that to Hawke or anyone. Especially not in public. He definitely does the ass grab, but that is when it is sort of mutual against the wall... I don't see him pinching or slapping Hawke's ass. He is far too reserved for that, unless it is something he knows Hawke would approve of, and in closed quarters. Other than that, lol. Fenris imagined as a today guy... and pinching MY ass, lmao. I don't think I would mind. Maybe if I didn't know him and like random stranger guy pinches me.. thsn he gets a fist to face, but if I knew him, if he was my Fenris (crazy talk!) Then, no, I wouldn't mind at all. Especially in closed quarters between friends/lovers (which is the only way I see it coming to pass anyways).
I over-analyze things. Yeah.. work now!

Nothing directly related to Hawke. Don't expect Hawke and party to show up any time or anything or you will be disappointed. Just.. XD STILL! Everyone needs to read it.
Also, to answer Cosmo -- No you really don't have to have read the other books. It isn't really a continuation of the story of The Calling or anything. The Stolen Throne addresses history -- Maric and Loghain and such. The Calling addresses events in Awakenings and the Architect type intelligent darkspawn. Asunder literally takes place 1 year after Act 3 and the game's conclusion, and it just picks up where that left off, but focuses on Thedas and other characters and what happens next after DA2.
Uhh... I don't think I posted this anywhere, but was messing around with screenies again.. thought I would share since this page is seriously lacking some Fenris:

I'm always saddened to read on the boards that others hated DA2. It just means that so many people won't get to meet Fenris and crew. I of course reply with my two cents of loving the game. Sure it was different from DA:O, but that doesn't make it a total write-off!

Hell Ive already heard from friends its a shame this game is just DA1.5 and 3 will be the 'REAL' DA2. (Granted I tune out that drama in effect for ME3 cause nothing brings people together over hate of biotech zombies with shotguns.)
That and when you get drama from fan threads or others popping up about dislike for certain npc's actions becoming cannon storywise by the writers *cough*couples*cough* It does sorta cast a bad light on the game...then again thats every game with a fandom...just popular ones are the worse.
Also my Fenris contribution isnt much except noticing Arcane updated her wolf print fanfic and this little link by Enerjak. So inlove with that woman's sketches.

Well when it was made it in less than a year....yeaaah I can see some justified hate on it on not being a true sequel.

Well I admit that 15 months in the making is probably too short, but I never expected it to be a continuation of DA:O. That story pretty much wrapped up for me, and my head filled in the blanks. Sure I would like to see more Warden, but I thought the epilogue was a great help.
I had always assumed that DA2 would be a separate story when the Warden wasn't the protagonist.
Anyway, back to Fenris!! I feel like this picture sums up how my Hawke and Fenris celebrate after getting back together in Act III

I REALLY don't understand the people that complain about the story. I understand that there could always be "more." Hell, even in Dragon Age: Origins there could have been "more." More of the story, more of the companions, more of the explanations and interactions. Yes there could have been more, there always could be more. I don't understand why people find it so "lacking" in story department though. I think a lot of it stems from a dislike of Hawke and perhaps a dislike of the companions and Hawke in general. If you want to be a grand hero saving the world, then Hawke will disappoint you. Hawke is reactionary. Hawke is an above average, average person, who gets thrown into events they can't control. I LOVED that about DA2. A lot of people hated that. They wanted their "saved the day/world" hero story. They wanted their Wardens back, and they wanted someone besides what and who Hawke is. Plus there is a lot in the game that personally offends people and gets on their nerves. Some people simply hate it for personal reasons outside of what the game is. I think when something touches on something so personal whether negative or positive then it is doing something RIGHT, not WRONG. It's impacting you, and that in itself is something.
Still, I'm not going to say that one is better than the other. While I like DA2 more than DA:O for various reasons (coughFENRIScough) I don't think of it as a game vs game thing. I don't think it needs to be.
The whole reason I loved DA2's story was because it was so personal. One of the reasons I like Fenris's story is because it is more personal. Something outside Mages vs. Templars, and yet SO relevant to the main story, because here is your example of what Mages in powerful positions are capable of. So yea.. don't really get all the hate for DA2. I think people just like to complain about everything and anything, personally.
*collapses onto keyboard* Sorry.. I'm.. so tired... so very very tired right now...

If they hadn't done that I would've have gotten the game in the first place, let alone be disappointed in it. So yes I can understand people being pissed.
It's like someone advertised giving you a double decker chocolate cake and instead you get a plain vanilla. Some people will be pissed.

So, no, for me, combat was not fluid nor fun. Yes, the animations and speed were an improvement, but the combat itself was certainly not in my opinion. I have gotten used to it by now, but the first time around I was very annoyed.
I don't hate the story though. The story was what kept me going. I love the companions and the party banter. Still, the story is also not that strong at certain key moments, especially with everyone going insane/hostile for no real reason.
Having played the game several times over now, makes it very clear the replay variation is not that high. I've made every choice that could be made by now, and it's really not that much.
I think I mostly keep playing this game because of the companions. I really have the most fun with them. The companions were the most important thing to me in Origins as well. Luckily, DA2 has Fenris.

The combat with random spawns appearing at random intervals behind, around, dropping from the sky, whatever.. was laughable at times. Like, where in the name of the MAKER are these people coming from?! Still, you had the option to pause, form lines, assign actions to your companions (which they followed and it was excellent how they can self manage and maintain). The key (as in any RPG) is finding the right build and the right level for maximum devastation.
For me I found that having Fenris as a tank was always more advantageous than having Aveline. Now, now... I know that is a huge debate starter, but FOR ME I liked the extra massive damage Fenris can wield even against bosses despite his less meat shield like status. He is less defensive tank and more offensive tank and when I have him AND Carver in a party it was just HILARIOUS the way things would die so fast. I put a lot of points into Dexterity as well as Strength for Fenris. He can get those critical hits and things die FAST. The extra dudes who drop down don't really bother me. Anders is on ranged and so sticks to the back, and not the front. He heals and everyone pots (themselves mostly because Actions FTW). The worst thing is running out of pots and pot cool down times, but I can usually alternate that with heals either through Bethany, myself, or Anders.
Still with Aveline the battles are more drawn out and take longer. Yes there is less chance for Aveline to die, and she holds the aggro well with her taunts and meat shieldness. STILL, she doesn't do much damage. Definitely not as much damage as Fenris, and you can set his actions to Taunt things that are targeting Hawke or other party members so he won't lose aggro. He can tank a boss like a pro, and he can avoid being hit while doing massive damage. So yeah, maybe it is because I play on the PC, maybe it is because I am familiar with other games that throw those kind of "random guys from NOWHERE!" at you. It didn't bother me much. It was laughable from a lore standpoint and RPG standpoint at times, but the mobs didn't bother me.
I will say though, that in DA:O I very much disliked the combat. I also felt no need to do the side quests. I mean, I'm a Warden trying to gather an ARMY to fight the ARCHDEMON, and time is running out. Why should I be the "gopher" for you people? Why do I care about doing side quests when all I really need to do is get my army. I found it difficult to care about the random NPCs who needed help because there were other pressing matters. Eventually I did a full and complete playthrough where I did every quest, but still.. it felt like a deviation from my main goal and while I'm futzing around in Redcliff or Orzammar the Archdemon is growing more powerful by the second and my chance is slipping by. Whereas with Hawke I felt it almost necessary to do all the side quests. I felt that every job was something that would further my goals, and every person who offered me a quest, a task, a mission, was someone who I could obtain something from to HELP me in my pursuit of the main story. Even if it was to simply protect my family, or move out of Lowtown, or just get more coin to move up in the world. I never felt the side missions were deviations from something bigger, but just a part of the whole picture.
I'm ranting and going into TMI, but the point is I don't think it matters if you are a hardcore gamer or a casual gamer. Different people are going to react to DA2 differently based on personal preferences. To me, I found the game very fulfilling. So much so that after a year I am still heavily into the DA fandom, and even read the books and have played so many runthroughs of DA2 and DA:O in a row that it is ridiculous. Is DA2 a perfect "game?" No, I don't think it is. I think it can be judged fairly though, and there isn't so much need for the venom and vitriole it receives.
Though, I say the same thing about Fenris too. He has every right to be judged fairly, and still people throw vitriole and venom his way. *shrug* again.. that is just people though.

I, too, think DA2 got too much hate and not enough credit. Do I have my problems with it? Yes, but not enough to hate the game. Far from it.
I replayed DA:O after my first DA2 PT to generate a 'Queen Cousland" and finish my Awakenings run with Canon!Warden (Sorry, Architect, you gots ta die, especially after reading The Calling...). I still love the 'be a hero' feel and the epicness of building an army to deal with the Archdemon, but GOOD LORD I hated the combat after playing DA2. The waves thing never really bothered me, I love how tactics work (once I figured out how to build good ones, thanks Hubby!), and I still (obviously) love the story. The 'not getting to be a hero' thing bugs me (as a player) a little, but that's because it's fantasy. I *want* to be the hero.
I see now why one of the designers called the DA:O combat the "shuffle of doom" compared to the rapid engagement in combat in DA2. Yeah, it's a little goofy at times, but it works.
I also don't get the complaining about how 'all the companions' or 'most of them' suck. I swear the people making those complaints don't bother to talk to their companions much. It took me a while to warm to a couple of them, but I do think they're well written. Are they Wynne, Alistair, Zev, and Lei? No, nor should they be.
I love my Fenris, Varric, Isy, Aveline, and Bethany the way they are. Anders is a crazy, tragic mess, but I like how he's written. Merrill is the only companion I still actively dislike, but hey, I wasn't crazy about Morrigan either, and it took me a while to learn to appreciate Oghren, though now I think he's a hoot.
Ugh, off to bed. 5 hours of sleep ain't gonna cut it - this ain't Undergrad anymore, Ursula.
EDIT - I left out poor Bethany! How could I forget her, especially since I do enjoy writing her!

That's a very nice pic. And poor Fenris does need more loving attention.
And I can't believe I only just noticed it, but Arcane_Solana: You're the one who's writing "The Wolf's Imprint" ? I love it! Your re-imagining is excellent! And I just love the image of Fenris in a black turtleneck! The last chapter was wretching. Very well done!
It is I indeed! Lol. You're actually reading it? I'm really, REALLY flattered! Like really! I had such a ****ty day, so seeing your post put a much longed-for smile on my face. Thank you so much
