Why, in art and... actually, pretty much everything fan-made, Fenris most often seems to get the 'feminine' role/pose/whatnot.
Am I the only one bothered by this? Fen's a fierce boy, someone make him look like it, damnit! *fistshake*
...or maybe I just haven't looked at/read enough...
I think it's because he's an elf... when you put the build of an elf dude next to the build of a human dude, even in the game, the elf ends up looking either very young or feminine.
Though I agree -- while I really like the art on that cover, I've never seen a guy stand in the position that Fenris has there. Women have a lower center of gravity, and perhaps that's why such poses look more natural on them.
OR maybe it's because we have such a long history in art and advertising of putting women in ridiculous poses that they look normal to us now? (Okay, this is slightly tangential, but
these photos are hilarious.
Also these. )
Okay, I started down a looooong intenet rabbit hole of reading arguments about how women are objectified in advertising, but I'm not going to share it all with y'all because it's not really germane to Fenris.
Long story short -- too late! -- I think Fenris gets put in more feminine poses because of body type rather than personality. Though depending on your interpretation of the character, he can have a dependant streak which we tend to associate more with the female, which could also be a factor.
Oh gender assumptions, how riled up you can make me. I am closing my browser now, before I go all ranty.
