Also what I was hinting at was this...I received a signed picture of Fenris by mister Gideon emery off his website that a certain friend bought for me. Lets just say I never thought I swoon at a taken man then seeing mister Emery's penmanship.

Introducing ourselves after months, are we?  Oh, I'm not very good at introductions. Well, hiiiii, I am renjility, and no, I did not come up with this odd nickname. I have claimed my boyfriend's account (he redeemed my promo code on it!).:innocent: Uhm... I am 20 years old at the moment, and have been a Fenris fan since the game came out and my first Hawke met him. She/I was a little torn at first between Fenris and Sebastian, but eventually she/I went for Fenris, and no regret of it.:P Chaste marriage, bah. Prime reason for liking Fenris? Voice.
So, introduction. Bye!

@ Ghost: oh, what a lovely present to receive. Lucky you!

I think the most important thing for Fenris is that the person he falls for is strong. He clearly does not appreciate weak-minded people.

I don't think Fenris is looking for a mate.  He is the kind of person who doesn't think of himself as love-able, or worthy of love.  He is quite surprised when Hawke hits on him; he even tells Hawke s/he is too handsome/beautiful for someone like him.

Moto, when does he say that?

He doesn't literally say Hawke is too handsome/beautiful. This is the conversation you have at the beginning of act 2, if I recall correctly. When you flirt with him, he says: "you are a handsome man/beautiful woman, Hawke. Is there no one else who holds your interest?" or something along those lines. And after Hawke's reply, he says: "I am an elf and an escaped slave. Doesn't that bother you?"

The message that he is surprised a person like Hawke shows interest in him is there, but he doesn't say it literally.

I went back and looked at that scene because it never came across to me that Fenris was implying that Hawke was too beautiful for him, rather, what I got was this: Fenris is confused why anyone would be interested. I read it as he has nothing to offer (living in a borrowed mansion) and because he is an elf, he didn't think that would appeal to a human. I say usually appeal to a human, because of the prejudice. I'm not counting Isabela in this scenario.

So... do you think Fenris does not find himself attractive? And if he finds Hawke too beauitiful to be interested in him, then what does that say about Isabela?

That the Isabela romance is a crock and shouldn't be taken as canon because it breaks everything we know and understand about Fenris.

And Fenris does not say, You're a human, Hawke.  Why are you interested in me, an elf?  He says: You're a HANDSOME man/BEAUTIFUL woman, Hawke.  Does NO ONE ELSE have you attention?

It's not just that he's an elf, but that's part of it.  It's not just that he's an escaped slave, but that's part of it (a big part of it).  Fenris has a distorted view of his own self-worth.  He only understands how Danarius valued him (as a tool).  It's hard for him to think of someone feeling genuine affection for and attraction toward him.

It's not that Fenris doesn't think he's attractive, but more like he's never thought of his own attractiveness.

No, I agree with you it's not necessarily about looks there. Fenris clearly has more important issues. I think when Fenris evaluates his appearance, his focus is mostly on his markings, because they are such a prominent aspect. He looks weird, he looks different. People eye him with suspicion and tend to avoid him. Danarius let him pour wine for his guests because his appearance intimidated them. So all in all I don't think Fenris considers himself as attractive. He is a freak. I don't think he really finds himself ugly, but the markings overshadow the rest of his appearance too much.

Hawke is not necessarily too beautiful for him, but a too... impressive/strong person. If it was just about looks, I doubt Fenris would have had that much trouble with accepting the possibility of a relationship. He doesn't seem to value looks that much. After everything he has seen and has been through, he is more interested in the person, in whether that person is strong-willed and not power-hungry.

I still don't really 'get' the Fenris-Isabela relationship, so I'm going to guess here. I don't think Fenris thinks it okay to sleep with her because he finds her ugly. xD Clearly he respects her enough to get this intimate with her, while she is not such a.. hero(?) as Hawke is to him. And because Isabela is quite easy when it comes to sex, he probably believes it less important than when it would have been with Hawke. With Isabela there is simply less pressure in that area, because it is already something not really reserved for the most worthy of people. xD

Hahaha Yeah I know he doesn't sleep with her because he thinks she's ugly

I just don't think the relationship makes sense, period.  But we've already discussed Fenris x Isabela here, and some people like it, so I don't want to get on their bad side >.>

No, I think you're right in saying he thinks he's a freak, not that he thinks he's ugly.  Poor baby.

And although Hawke's attractiveness is not the only thing that intimidates Fenris, I think it's part of it.  Hawke is basically like an Adonis/Athena figure to Fenris.  And beauty is part of that.

Thank you, I must ask this though:

My first playthrough, I was flirting with all the characters I met, being a snarky Hawke, Only I was ambushed by Anders and thus was romanced with him, and all I could do was stare at Fenris going "Whyyyy can't I be with you?!" My second playthrough, I did everything I could to romance Fenris, but he didn't even respond to Hawke, is my Fenris glitched so I can't romance him?

He is pretty easy to initiate a romance with.  Just flirt with him at every given opportunity.  You do not get to actually kiss him until his "Bitter Pill" quest, which takes place in Act II when you leave Kirkwall.

Hmm, that's odd. The romance should get started in act 2. Flirts in act 1 don't count. How far are you into the game? Two things are necessary to get his romance started. You have to complete his first Questioning Beliefs quest, which will trigger once you reach 50% friendship or rivalry. If you are successfully romancing him, at the end of that conversation you should have a heart option.

And, after having completed Blackpowder Courtesy (with the Qunari gas and the crazy elf), you have to travel to an area outside of Kirkwall (so Wounded Coast or Sundermount) with Fenris in your party. You should get ambushed by slavers and his Bitter Pill quest should trigger.

Before I go on and on with more explaining, have you reached those points yet?

Hello DAOJust!!!!!!!!!!  Lovely Fenris picture:wub::wub::wub:

Many good points! Though, Isabela still doesn't make sense for an LI for Fenris imo. No, I can't let it go.

So do you think it can be inferred that either Hawke was a virgin, therefore the sex being a big deal first time or that maybe Hawke stated up front it had to be more than a one night stand or is it simply that Fenris places the importance on it out of love???? Or maybe Hawke knew if there was a a child it would come out green and have antennas :P

Sometimes, I am of the opinion that unless an apostate mage has been with another mage they remain virgins because of the risk factor of being caught and if even then I'd call it risky to trust. Rogues...well need I say it? Warriors maybe are inclined to remain virgins for virtuous reasons. You two are probably going to rip me to shreds on this one.

Psssst I have it on good authority that he doesn't wear underclothes.

Welcome DAOJust...glad to here that your Lei Hawke is now with her rightful man! :)

hmmmmmm.....so, this is group therapy now, eh? Ok, I'll bite:
Hi, I'm coldi, 42.....picked the name for two reasons. Every morning after my husband takes our pug for a walk, he runs into my arms and sticks his coldwetnose into my face. The second is a nod to the movie Stripes. Just a bit of silliness.

As for Fenris, I didn't read any spoilers about the game. The only bit of info I had was that Anders from DAA was to be in the game. First thought through my head was.....hell, yeah! Come here mister sparkle fingers. UNTIL..................."Your men are dead..." <gulp> Who....wut.......what happened. Is it hot in hear. That voice............I was lost. Anders who? Fenris gets my Hawkes nearly everytime. I have only romanced Isabela once, and I am still trying to get through even one Anders romance.

Funny thing is (and I can't remember who brought this up, if it was Ren, motomoto, or aldien), but I do make stronger or more confident Hawkes BECAUSE I choose to romance Fenris. My Anders romance get my "sachrine" sweet gal, who is a bit on the naive side. That could be yet another reason she is so hard for me to play. I prefer a snarky or an aggro/snarky. (still throw in a few diplos when the RPing calls for it). Well, off for coffee and shortbread.....(standard therapy fare, right??)
:)

PFFFFT Like every time I reload a save  I have a cute screen cap of Anders and Hawke smiling at one another.  He's a really cute Hawke, too, with wild orange hair.

Yes, I tolerate the silliness, for I am not remotely silly myself =]

On whether or not Hawke is a virgin: Um, NO.  My Hawke's are always guys ... plus they're freaking hot.  No way are they in their 20's and still virgins xDDD  Some of my Hawke's can't even wait for the romance to commense and spend some time at the Blooming Rose.  One even slept with Isabela xD

And Coldi, I always have brash young confident Hawke's, too.  One of my Hawke's, Nemanja, (My first Hawke, bless him), is very steady and mature (diplo), but he's still incredibly confident.  The two who romanced Anders are also pretty confident, but Anders is definitely the older, more mature one in the relationship (we agree on that, too!)

I know, and I agree it doesn't make sense. But that was what I came up with anyway, if I'm forced to make sense of it.=]

Sure, Hawke could be a virgin. That is up to the player. Nothing is known about Hawke's previous relationships, if there are any. But I think a Hawke romancing Fenris already implies Hawke is not a giant flirt or someone who easily sleeps with people. Hawke has to wait for three years without romancing anybody else for Fenris to come back after all.
Or maybe Hawke knew if there was a a child it would come out green and have antennas :P
Lol, whaaat?

:o:O:O

Since when are warriors always virtuous?:P Does Carver seem that virtuous?

Chances seem slim there were other apostates in Lothering (except Morrigan, who visited the village on occasion). But unless a mages shoots lightning when he/she *ahem* climaxes, I don't see why mage Hawke could not have had a sexual relationship with some non-magical person in Lothering. Oh Maker, I shouldn't have said that about the lightning... I now have images in my head.... :pinched:
