Sebastian is a little stud muffin for sure. But personality wise he's still definitely not my type. I'm not sure anyone in the game is my type lol Maybe Donnic. Such a good and steady sort of guy. And a sweetheart to boot. So for me, put Donnic's personality in Seb's body, woohooo!!!

Ohh yeah, totally. Plus his woman is his superior. F*** yeah!!! Get it, Get it, Aveline!! I love that relationship.
Zevran is a sweetheart and a half. I agree that you won't regret romancing him. I hear the Alistair romance is also very sweet, though; Ali has a LOT of fangirls. But can you force yourself to play DA:O twice? It's sooo looong LOL I myself played it three times through so it can be done. If I could edit it the way I can edit DA2 I probably would play it again. But it also looks so god awful on my old non-HD TV.

Who am I kidding, I don't think there's one companion who isn't special. Some are deeper than others but each and every one of them has a reserved place in my heart
I'm reading some of it now because of you! The horror! The poor boy doesn't stand a chance against the collective imagination of fangirls worldwide. What he isn't put through! *blushes furiously*Staarbux wrote...

I've played both and they're both very, VERY nice. If you just want to try out some of the convos ou don't have to play through all of it again, I used savegames extensively and a bit of save game editing to fit my needs (plus pumping your stats in savegames helps speed things up on a new playthrough
I cannot, however, state enough that if you like the goofy, slightly awkward but SO charming Alistair, you mustn't cheat yourself of his romance. My humble opinion is that there is more depth to him than any of the other characters and the fact that his story is tied into the main story so tightly, makes it feel more like you're questing for him than anyone else. I still crush on him when I hear his voice in my fraps videos

So I've heard! I regret not doing DA:O before doing DA2. Back to the drawing board. (Actually I did play some of DA:O on my computer a year or so ago, but things came up and I didn't get far. I also knew zero things about the game. I just played it in my spare time.) But now I'm hardcore into the franchise.

Aveline is pretty cool. I always kept her in my party. She and Fenris got along. And apparently Donnic goes over to Fenris' mansion to play .... what is it... diamondback? Something like that. Some kinda bromance going on there.
Alistair seems fond of me thus so far in the game. And he's cool too. I've heard he has a ton of fangirls, yes. And IS DA:O longer? I suspected it might be. I remember finishing DA2 in a couple days - and leisurely at that.

Yeah they are all pretty stellar in some way or another. I agree. I assume that since I can't have elves in real life, I might as well vicariously live through a computer generated avatar of myself. Ha. (Delusionally fantasize much, Trista?) I heard Zev is special, and his romance looks a bit complicated. Something about saying "no" to an earring the first time around because it makes him propose the second time? You guys have to hold my hand through this. ::: DA:O newb:::

If you finished DA2 in two days you either skipped a LOT of secondary quests or you didn't eat or sleep
Expect to spend about a week on DA:O, assuming you can play every evening for a good 6-7 hours.

This thread has been through hell and back. I'm starting to think it is impossible to kill it, which is a great thing because I don't want to see it die. I find the group on here, as of late, really supportive and friendly. Well... when there's no antagonizing going on

Bows to your superior skill. I don't know if people on here have noticed, but there seems to be a shift going on where Fenris has become more popular. I think it took time for his story to click with people. It was complex. and at first glance, I can see how some would find him to be a complete prig. But the romance is rewarding as well as the friendship. He doesn't **** himself out like Anders, imo.
Yay! Thank you so much for the reassurance that I'm not the only that would die for some Fenris lovin'.
Also really excited to see the thread come back to life.
Loved the bathtub picture Trista! I'm sitting here trying to identify them. LOL Fenris choking Anders.

ANNNNNND... yeah kinda rotted in a cesspool of my own filth for a couple days. That whole "I'll bathe when Hyrule is free!" mentality. (jk) Holy sh*t. It's 3am and I just stumbled home. Sorta not sober at the moment. Maybe I have more in common with Fenris than I thought...

The other two questions have already been answered, but I think the one peeking over the edge of the tub is supposed to be Hawke. You can see a hint of the red stripe on his nose. The guy on the left would then be Carver, meaning Bethany did not survive to make it to the bathtub.
Have you decided whether you'll romance Alistair or Zevran the first time?
I romanced Alistair on my first playthrough, and got my heart broken.
And DAO is pretty long indeed, although it depends on how many side quests you do. And how many times you die, LOL (I died soooo many times with my first character). Finnishing it in two days won't be possible, unless you barely sleep and go on full-time.
@ aldien: you didn't find the people friendly when you were here a few months ago? I remember you were upset and said you were leaving, but I never fully understood why exactly, because I didn't see a personal attack directed at you. I hope I wasn't the one who chased you away.

Oh duh, true. See, I assumed they just threw together the whole clan - but YES. According to DA2, it's either carver or bethany.

Have you decided whether you'll romance Alistair or Zevran the first time? Both are cute, but of the two, the Alistair romance is easiest to screw up in the end... depends on your decisions... Zevran is pretty easy, however. As long as you're not an ass to him, you won't accidentally ruin the relationship. As for the earring... I don't want to spoil too much for you, but when he offers it the first time, you can press him to admit that it is a token of affection. He'll refuse to give the earring then, but will offer it again later. You can also accept the earring first time around.
I romanced Alistair on my first playthrough, and got my heart broken. Tried to make Zevran my rebound then, but it was already too late in the game and there were no more flirt options available. Poor mage elf. No lover in the end.

lol oh lame. (to the whole heart broken thing). Men are not this difficult in real life. Typically they're like "hurrrr boobs - i'll do whatever you want" but those Dragon Age character developers have NO sense of reality! lol. Kidding. No I like that they make it challenging.
Zevran or Alistair... It's a tough call, but I want to go for Zevran. HOWEVER - I am very new in the game, you know? So all I have by my side is Alistair (well and Morrigan and Leliana - but pff... girls - not interested.) So I keep staying friendly with Alistair and his approval rating goes up. It's high because I toyed around with gift-giving. (Never did it before. I'm in experimentation mode.) I assume I can do all these things as long as we don't sleep together, or does Zevran not care? I am unsure how the love triangles work in the game. And when I look up what to do/what not to do - it gives me a headache. No joke.

As a rule, forums are the first place you would go to get into a fight. Doesn't matter what you say - someone will have a problem with you. I posted something in the general DA discussion (somewhere) about a possible feature for DA3 and I can't begin to tell you how many trolls jumped down my throat. I just kept dropping the smiley emoticons and ignored it. I think people like that enjoy baiting others into fighting, not realizing that the basis of most of these forums posts are pure opinion. You can't change someone's opinion most of the time. (And definitely not over the internet.) What's *really* interesting is that most people get fired up on forums when you have something positive to say. Lots of naysayers lurking out there, waiting for a reason to say, 'NUH UH and lemme tell ya why!"
Anyway that's my little sidenote.

Hey, don't lol at my broken heart!
Oooh, you don't even have Zevran yet? So you don't know how you are going to meet him exactly? LOL, the first meeting isn't very peaceful. You can get as friendly as you want with Alistair, and you could even sleep with him if you want. However, before you have reached that point in the relationship, you've probably acquired Zevran already, so then you would have to choose. You can flirt with everyone if you want. It will not jeopardize any of the romances. But, when they are in the flirt mode, they will confront you if you have shown interest in someone else as well, and force you to choose. So if you have gotten very friendly with Alistair, but then started getting cozy with Zevran, either of them will bring this up and force you to choose (the one you first talk to will do this). You can then dump Alistair and happily carry on with Zevran. So the love traingles are no reason for panic in DAO. Romances don't get screwed up as easily as Fenris' romance in DA2.
So, good luck with it all.

You know what I would like to see? I would like to see some fanart of the characters wearing... scabbards. Like, that is an absolutely gorgeous pic, but for some reason it bothers me that the artist (and bless her, she's truly gifted, no doubt) is suggesting he just lugs that giant sword around over his shoulder lol
lol.
It's a rather "anime" approach isn't it? Not the style she drew him in, but the idea of lugging around a huge sword on your back - no scabbard. (Think of the character Guts from the Berserk series. LOL.)
This also made me laugh, because I'm currently in the middle of writing/publishing my second book. In the book, I just wrote out a scene where the protagonist is given a "Sword" to look after. It's one of those excalibur types of blades, vs. something Asian or machete-like. Anyway, she's unaccustomed to swords, and asks the individual who gives it to her, "What... no... cover thing?" And the individual who had given it to her says, "You mean a scabbard? No. Strap it to your back. Don't get stabbed."
Anyway, and I agree. I really like the above artist's redition of Fenris. I thought it was very stylized.

And yeah - this all sounds way more laid back than DA2. In DA2 it's like, "DON'T eat cheese, Isablea will sleep with your sister. DO flip off the Viscount and Fenris will turn green. But only do that AFTER you pray to Andraste at NIGHT in the chantry while wearing nothing but your boots and you must be at 100% rivalry with your mother."

Then again, I don't watch a lot of action anime like that, mostly slice of life stuff like Natsume Yuujinchou. Someone explain to me how Natsume is like Fenris o.O I think people who make those comparisons don't actually watch anime ... maybe they are thinking of stuff like Final Fantasy (Fenris' hair does resemble those kinds of guys, I guess.)

Oh nooooooooo, not the anime comparisonPeople are always saying Fenris is like an anime character, and I can't figure out what they mean. Hmm, I've never heard of Berserk, but yeah, that guy does look pretty silly xD All of the anime I watch, however, if anyone has a sword or other pointy weapon, they usually have a scabbard.
Then again, I don't watch a lot of action anime like that, mostly slice of life stuff like Natsume Yuujinchou. I'd say that Final Fantasy, being a predominantly japanese rpg, has been dominated by the whole anime franchise over the years. But that's to be expected.
I will admit that the way they designed Fenris for DA2, he doesn't look very medieval. (But I'm cool with that.) Between the hair and the outfit and the glowing lyrium - he does have "anime character tendencies" but I wouldn't say he's a full blown anime character. Definitely not.
Honestly? Haters are gonna hate. I despise using that phrase but it best fits the scenario. People are going to attack Fenris below the belt (settle down ladies that's NOT what I meant hehe), criticizing Bioware for "making an anime character WTF" when really... that's not what they did. They just branched out a little on his hair and armour to make him stand out, look attractive/mysterious, be appealing (or in other words... sell).
But I must say that big swords without scabbards falling into the hands of dashing, lanky males with cool hair - it's akin to something they do in most animes. But... I also say... so what? I'm 31. I like anime alright. I've never gone full blown anime nerd and done a convention or spent hundreds of dollars on a plethora of manga comics and dvds. But it'd be a lie if I said I didn't like a few animes here and there.
I think anime is just one of those franchises that has gotten SO big that you have to sift through a lot of garbage to find something cool. (Which I highly recommend Berserk. It is one of the few I own. Amazing storyline. Not complicated and weird like most animes. Just pure medieval fantasy. And a lot of macabre themes in it, too...) And so, because of that, a lot of people run around and say, "Anime sucks. It's lame." etc. etc. And when a character in Dragon Age slightly resembles something out of the typical D&D element, they freak, wondering when Fenris is going to start flying through the air with a gigantic sweat drop glued to the side of his head. lol
lol ah well. White people problems (aka First World Problems).
"Grrr that Dragon Age character is too anime for me." Awww poor babies....

Who says DA2 is medieval? DA2 is fantasy. The medieval period is a time period here on earth. You sure as heck didn't have women wielding swords during OUR "medieval" period, yet no one bats an eye about them doing it in the DA2 universe. Thedas is a created world; its creators pulled from various aspects of earth history. I watched the Lord of the Rings movies, and DA2 sort of reminds me of that. The outfits that they wore in that movie, and how they did their hair, the culture they created (yeah I know it was taken from the books a lot, but like their appearance, that was all Peter Jackson and his team) ... it's not "medieval" or anything, it's Middle-Earth.
Yeah I do know that the DA2 (and DA:O) team drew from medieval fashion and such, to some degree. It was a mistake in my opinion because, for example, Hawke looks a fool in tights *snark* ... but no, seriously, they should have showed a little more creative effort and created more unique costumes the way the WETA people did for Lord of the Rings.
For the record, I sometimes like complicated and weird anime
