I could definately see the child of the Champion of Kirkwall (or even the son/daughter of the PC+LI (whoever that might be) grow up and become a companion. But umm... well.. I don't know about the LI bit. Since 'I' was the previous hero both in DA:O and DA2, it would in a sense be 'my' child and iunno since in DA3 I'm again the hero, there would really be a distinct incestuous feel to having the child of any former 'me' be a LI. I don't think I could do that.Trista Faux Hawke wrote...
I was discussing this on another thread but thought I'd bring it here. For DA3, wouldn't it be cool if a hetero paired couple from DA2 had a child together, and that child grows to adulthood to become a companion (or even LI) of the new protagonist? There's one way to keep Fenris "alive" for the third installment.
If the child was that of, say, Aveline and Donnic, it would of course be completely fine.

Are the developers that afraid of some female players getting offended? (I know some would. I get it.) I think a lot of players would like a girly Hawke option, with prettier clothes, and maybe a less butchy attitude.
Well, I think in that case they would be playing the wrong game ... Hawke is an adventurer, not a supermodel. I would be very p!ssed off if BioWare did something like that with a female player character. The only way I would allow it would be to allow similar clothing for the male player character. If they are going to play the heteronormative game, then I'm not interested in playing, simple as that. But like I think male Hawke should have make-up options. Why only female Hawke? I hate when fantasy/science fiction/AU milieus have our own repressive sensibilities tacked onto them.
It is so funny that people complained about female Hawke not having a dress in MOTA. It's the sort of thing that makes me wish (for the thousandth time) that I'd been born a boy.
renjility wrote...
Uhu. Aaaaaaand male Hawke wears the exact same thing as female Hawke.Same suit, same color. Just no boobs. But yeah, MotA is Tallis' show, and that means lady Hawke can't possibly be sexier than Tallis.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/pouty.png[/smilie]
Well, there's no reason why male and female Hawke shouldn't have the same outfit, or at least shouldn't both wear pants. The MOTA outfit looked bad on both of them, that's for sure! Tallis' outfit (which had pants) looked really nice. You just have to hold your hand over the screen so you can't see her fugly face...
Anyway, peeps, that's what mods are for I guess. I've seen YouTube videos where female Hawke is prancing around in a chain bikini. Isn't that what modding is all about?

I don't see why Hawke can't have an option to look less butch. Enforcing one appearance over another is still a bit narrow. Isabela is an adventurer and she's by no means a tomboy. Her butt is hanging out and she has cleavage. It'd be cool for Hawke to have that option too in some way, without the hassle of modding.

Ah. I wouldn't see it that way because they said in DA3 it's supposed to be a new protagonist. When I play Hawke, I feel like a new character - apart from the warden. If Hawke met the princely son of the warden and Alistair, I wouldn't feel incestuous about romancing him. But therein lies our differences.

re: Fenris and Bethany, actually Fenris doesn't dislike her, at least the way I read things? He'll acknowledge her as "strong" to Anders, and while he has a couple of conversations with her about the Circle and her being an apostate, they're always civil, and he's generally quite polite to her.
And really, it makes sense. Fenris doesn't hate every mage indiscriminately, no matter what; he hates magic, and he doesn't trust mages by default. Bethany, however, never gives him a reason to dislike her personally. She's not a blood mage, and she's not an abomination; in fact, she's the sweetest, kindest mage Fenris knows. Once in the Circle, if you go that route, his worries about her being an apostate are gone; once in the Grey Wardens, she's a respectable member of an organization dedicated to fighting the fallout of the magister's pride and arrogance. So his respect for her in his conversation with Anders isn't a leap, and his being kind to her in MotA doesn't seem strange or out of character to me.
I also don't really feel like he was flirting with her - it's perfectly possible to tell someone they'd look good in a pretty dress without it being a flirt - but then, it's possible it was! Bethany seems to bring something out in people, even Sebastian flirts with her. XD I don't mind, but then, I don't mind Isabela flirting with Fenris, either. I don't have an issue with flirting, I see it as harmless fun! Not everyone does, which is okay (as long as they understand it's also okay for it to be harmless fun for other people, anyways!), and a personal preference thing.
----
I don't like the idea of the child of either the Warden or Hawke showing up - especially as a love interest! - because, with the Warden, my "main" Warden died fighting the Archdemon, and most of the others are either in a homosexual romance, or highly unlikely to have children because of how difficult the taint makes it, and the problems with having a child in the kind of life they lead. Likewise for my Hawkes - all my male Hawkes are in a homosexual relationship with Fenris, and my female Hawkes are unlikely to have children with him, not because they don't necessarily want a family, but because their life is just not conducive to it.
So, from a role-playing perspective, it's a no, because while some people's Hawkes(/Wardens) might decide that they want a kid and don't care if they have to change nappies in mid-battle, many people's Hawkes(/Wardens) wouldn't.
Add to that the fact that you'd have to have multiple different versions of the child - one for each gender's heterosexual romances, so a human child for a female Hawke and Anders, a half-elven child for female Hawke and Fenris, a human child for male Hawke and Isabela, and a half-elven child for male Hawke and Merrill, and that's getting ridiculously complicated on a execution basis.
Then there's execution issues in terms of appearance: how would they make the child look like the child of your Hawke and your LI? The LI, at least, has a certain look, but there are MANY different Hawkes. A male Hawke with dark skin who had a child with Isabela would almost certainly have a dark-skinned child, while a male Hawke with light skin who had a child with Isabela could have a child with light skin, dark skin, in-between skin . . . and the game would have to pick up your choices for Hawke and try to place them on the child in a way that looked natural. That would be very, very difficult to do, if not impossible.
Throw in the fact that the companion/LI would be ONLY available to people who had a heterosexual relationship in the previous game, thereby punishing people who chose a homosexual romance by depriving them of a companion and LI, and the answer is no. No way.
Moreover, I really don't think DA3 is going to happen that far in the future of DA2 . . . XD

Haha yeah I know, and it shouldn't bother me, it just somehow rubs me the wrong way. I guess it matches how I felt guilty picking an LI in DA2, since it made me feel a little like I was cheating on Alistair.Trista Faux Hawke wrote...

For me, it's not that I think wearing a dress or being feminine makes someone less awesome, it's that my female Hawkes just aren't the type. They're like me, they feel naked in a skirt. XD Some people's f!Hawkes are, and a dress option would have been nice for them, but a dress default would have pissed me off because it wouldn't suit my Hawkes, and it would have been forcing a normative view onto f!Hawke. (And I, personally, thought the outfit looked nice on my f! and m! Hawkes, so we must agree to disagree on that, as there's no accounting for taste for one or the other of us.

And part of that customisation could well include the trousers/skirt/shirt/dress/chainmailbikini options. I mean we're already picking our PCs beards, tattoos, makeup, hairstyle+colour, so why not let us decide what they're going to wear as well?

I don´t want Hawke fighting with her boobs and ass hanging out like Isabela, but when going to a noble party, there is less need for the tomboy look. The fact that she is wearing pants is not what bothers me; as has been said, Tallis was wearing pants and her outfit looked acceptable. My problem is she was wearing UGLY, unflattering pants, with an ugly, manly blouse. And I guess I don't see how a decent dress would diminish lady Hawke's credibility. Wearing a dress doesn't make you less of a skilled fighter. Dressing up and showing a more feminine side is not a sign of weakness, or ****tyness, or whatever.
A new page and you guys haven't posted a new Fenris pic!I will remedy that!

That is truly a lovely picture of Fenris. He looks so regal.
As for F Hawke's clothing, I doubt there would be so much fuss if you wanted to put M Hawke in a kilt. I'd just like to have the option to have the option of more feminine clothing. It doesn't mean I would want that to be the only outfit she wears, just have the choice. That's all! AHhhhhhhh Why does this always equal some debate about sexual orientation and post modern feminist discussions? It's just a damn dress for someone who likes them not because I want her to become a supermodel.
Nope, I have never been able to get my avatar to change, Ren. F knows why.

Exactly. This is what I've been trying to say all along. There should be an option. Ever play Fable 2 or 3? They should make the clothing customizable like that, only a bit more improved.

I do love a good serious debate, and that's what we often have here in the Fenris thread, minus all the nastiness that some of the other threads have. It's pretty cool.
I do Moto... I do! I begrudge you! Wait... dresses are a serious topic for you? You do know that I was only talking about a dress right? I wasn't suggesting that should be the only thing that she is allowed to wear. I was thinking more along the lines that she had different types of clothing to choose from. Like for MoTA, it would have been nice if she had more than just the default outfit. I always hated her robes that she wore around the house as well. I would have liked more options, mix and match etc, not just with the armor.
I can't handle all the big words flying around. It makes my brain hurt.
And I swear Harle that if you take what I said previously and argue I'm going to beat you with my funny stick.

Tiers of clothing for femme Hawke should include:
1. butchy clothes.
2. sexy clothes
3. girly clothes
4. full on drag king, if that's what you like. (Why can't she be dapper at noble parties if she's forced into being dumpy and butch?)
(And yes. Provide these same tiers for male Hawke.)
To clarify between sexy clothes and girly clothes: one set is more stylish/reserved (for women) and the other is more like Isabela's outfit or worse (for women). Yes. Think chainmail undies.
An easy way to do this is to just provide different versions of the same armour. I played Guild Wars for a while and they did that all the time. You would go to buy armour and it had 3 or so different versions of the same armour. You were able to try it on and say, "Ew that's ugly" or "That looks AWESOME!"
I mean... why didn't mages have the armour option that Flemeth was wearing? Or at least a variation of it. Her armour looked amazing. Pro: it didn't look dumpy and butch. And, I certainly wouldn't call Flemeth a girly supermodel. (Though there's nothing wrong with wanting to look like one. I would. It's a fantasy game. I am not a supermodel in real life - let me be one in a game. One that wields daggers and f*cks you up...)
I'd make Hawke look like Karen Elson.

I knew a guy who used to make chainmail for fun. He could make a pair of undies no problem. I think the lock is an optional extra.
To be fair I always make my Hawke's gorgeous. It seems like a crime to pair that gorgeous elf with something not as pretty.

I agree, it is a sweet picture of him. Most I see have him either angry or broody. Makes a nice change.
I have a question. At the end of the game, if you have romanced Fenris Varric says everyone leaves the champion's side except Fenris. I was wondering about Bethany, if you sided with the mages and she is freed from the Circle don't you think she would have gone with Hawke and Fenris too? Carver I can see going his own way, but if you have a friendship with Bethany, Hawke and her seem so close.
