Haha Well yeah it bothers me a lil bit but I'm also really really sensitive about animals, hurting animals, seeing animals suffer, etc. So I don't even like to think about them suffering in any way ... now because this is all clearly based on psychological responses on my part and not on logic, I can admit without shame that I'm not at all bothered by animals eating one another. I know, weird. But I just get choked up thinking about anyone hurting a sweet little rabbit. And not just sweet rabbits, but cows and deer and chickens, too. Yes, I know, I have issues ~.~

But I'm just answering your question since you asked, not saying you can't joke about stuff, haha xD At least you are not a total douche like some of my male friends who think it's just soooo hilarious to make meat jokes! Someone tell me please why guys think this is so funny. All my girl friends are really VERY kind about it and my sister even tells me to close my eyes when we are shopping together and she needs some meat from the meat market LOL Oh, and when I shop with my mom, she is careful to put her meaty foods on the far end of the cart so they don't touch mine. It's amazing what the people who love you will do for you, even when you're a little bit insane xD

I'm wondering who I'd get along with best in DA2, and it's surprising to say that it'd probably be Merrill. I think Merrill would indulge my squeamishness because she's a little darling like that, and why do I also get the sense that the Dalish say a prayer of thanks or something each time they shoot an animal, and that they always make sure to shoot so that the animal doesn't suffer.

Fenris would tell me I'm an idiot and would want nothing to do with me xD

Anders would pretend to think it's cute and try to get into my pants. Isabela actually WOULD think it's cute and try to get into my pants.

Aveline would gruffly tell me I've led a pampered life.

Does anyone else sit and think about how they'd interact with Fenris if he really existed? It's troubling to think that he and I really would not get along AT ALL lol

I don't like to see animals suffer either. I wasn't happy I killed 6 rabbits this week, but I live out in the absolute middle of nowhere and there are tons of them on the roads atm. I stop when I can, but when it is a choice between it an accident, well... the bunny unfortunately loses. Often, I will stop and pick up turtles and carry them to the other side of the road. Nothing upset me more than seeing a turtle die. I guess because they live so long.

Men are like that. They are bastardos. Ha to you dirty word filter!

Merril and I would get along too. I'm an avid flower gardner, so I can see her absolutely loving digging in the dirt with me.

Anders I dislike. Isabela I dislike for the most part. Aveline I really love so we would get on. Varric a definite. He would be my drinking/gossip buddy. Maybe an ex boyfriend.

Fenris... Hmmmmmm . The one thing about Fenris is that if you disagree with him he respects your decisions as long as they are rational and not forced upon him, as in, you don't expect him to feel the same way. There are way too many people in the world that expect you to agree with them, and when you don't, they can't handle it. I respect someone who doesn't back down with their beliefs, like Harle, you, Ren, Ghost.(I probably forgot someone) I'm still getting to know other people on the forum. The newbies

Fenris, I think tries to consider different points of view by ACTIII. He's a lost cause in Act I to some extent.

I'm grumpy and moody so that would be an interesting mix and I like to drink. I think as long as you respected him, tried to understand and actually cared for him it would work. Every relationship requires give and take, respect and hard work. So, that's my not so straight forward answer. Would I like him? I think so. Would he get on my nerves? Most definitely, but he has so many redeemable qualities, and personally, I find his moaning cute and so over the top that it is funny.

Sorry for writing a novel!

I think maybe she means his b!tching and moaning?  Which I actually find annoying xD Many times I wish Hawke could just turn and say, Would you hush up about this for ONE second?

Although I do love how when you go to the Gallows with Fenris in your party for the first time, and either Bethany, Anders, or Merrill speaks up, that Hawke will snap at them, You're not helping!

I like to see how s/he treats Fenris with kid gloves a bit, because I like to imagine that s/he's falling for him at this point <3

Off topic, or back to a real old topic. Remember when people were talking about fenris/hawke songs? I think I said "She is Beautiful" by A-dub. Anyway, in playing my Origins game and romancing Zev, I thought about a zev/warden song too. (fem warden). Has to be "Josie" by Blink182. The lyrics are perfect. haha

Well... now that I think about it. Fenris and moaning in the same sentence... yep I can see how that can lead to wonderful thoughts. :D

Awwwwwwww Moto, how can you not find it adorable? I love his little tantrums. I just want to go up to him and  pet that wrinkle right out of the top of his nose.

That is one of the first lengthy conversations Fenris has isn't it? I mean, after the initial meeting. I always liked the gallows scene because you get a feel for what he has been through in a more rational way. It also demonstrates his intelligence. It isn't just: I hate mages. He has real reasons to back up his prejudice. It always came across less mindless than Anders arguments.

Not absolutely sure, but I think box turtles are becoming endangered. :crying: I absolutely love turtles. The other day when I was driving home, and this is why I mentioned turtles, I saw a quarry truck run over one without a second thought. I was so angry. I wanted to kick that guy in the nuts. They are such lovely creatures. I think I read somewhere that every turtle shell has a unique pattern. That sounds too damn intelligent for me.

Off topic, or back to a real old topic. Remember when people were talking about fenris/hawke songs? I think I said "She is Beautiful" by A-dub. But hey! He does not lack in the bulge.

I never answered this....

Let's see. Music is so personal.

Invincible by Muse.  Hawke trying to convey how they can do anything together and trying to express to him that he is loved even when he f's up.

Rolling In the Deep by Adele--for when Fenris leaves Hawke after their night together. Naughty man!

I'll be waiting by Adele--when Fenris realizes he wants Hawke back.

And on and on... Adele isn't my favorite artist but some of her lyrics fit the Fenris/Hawke relationship perfectly.

Yep!  Well, that is true to a certain extent, BUT, he concludes the conversation with something along the lines of, "I see no oppression here.  I see fear and [something else, can't remember].  But enough.  I'm sure we came here for a reason."

I think Fenris is initially shocked by the Gallows.  He admits that it seems rather like a prison.  But at the end of the conversation, he basically, and very huffily, declares that the mages aren't treated SO badly here, and even if things ARE a little rough for them, it's for the better good, isn't it?

So at this point I don't believe that Fenris is very sympathetic to mages as people AT ALL.  I think his initial reaction -shock upon seeing how terrible the Gallows is- is the true one.  The bit at the end is him falling back into his old mage-hating routine, and trying to act the tough guy, basically.

So in a way, I do see this as a glimpse into his psyche, showing that he IS a compassionate person.  But he can't reveal or admit to that side of himself just yet.  He MUST hate mages, he MUST!

Oooh I love Muse. Super massive Black Hole!!

Lol no he doesn't lack in a bulge. (or so i hope) Though he is short - we'll just pretend he's lacking in height. Haha

And turtles! It's sad, yes. People run right over them which is heartless but also VERY STUPID if they care about their car. And decent sized turtle can f*ck up your tire. I've never hit one. Though once I ran over a cat, which was the absolute worst day of my entire life ever. I'm a cat lover, and that's the last animal I'd want to dart out in front of my car. It was pretty traumatic. I turned around and went back for him, even rushed him to the vet - hysterical and in tears of course. Said i'd pay anything if they could save him - but they couldn't. :(

It can't be avoided sometimes, but it's horrible when people don't care or don't even try to avoid them or help them.

*pets lurkers* I know you are there. Do they freak anyone else out? I'm assuming there are some. Maybe they were all scared away by Harle and me sharing a "special" moment. I don't know. Love you Harle. <3

But enough.  I'm sure we came here for a reason."

He is such a party pooper. Just wanted to listen to him talk for another twenty minutes. Fenris knows his voice is sexy. That is why he is the quietest party member in the game. <_< He is one big tease.

I think Fenris is initially shocked by the Gallows.  He admits that it
seems rather like a prison.  But at the end of the conversation, he
basically, and very huffily, declares that the mages aren't treated SO
badly here, and even if things ARE a little rough for them, it's for the
better good, isn't it?

I can see what you are getting at and I agree with your interpretation but I also have one of my own, because I don't think there is a wrong answer.

I think the gallows reminded him of Tevinter. Those statues are horrendous and must have been a major mind f for him. Someone once said to me that they looked at those statues and then at Fenris and they thought about that collar Danarius had him wear. They noticed the slave statues have their heads bowed and Fenris has his head down too. You know how he slouches. Danarius walked him around like a dog. Ugggg I don't like to think about it.

Fenris is very self absorbed in Act I. And who can blame him? He has this wonderful person who helps him out and listens! First time in his life someone is listening to him. It's Fenris therapy.

But at the end of the conversation, he basically, and very huffily,
declares that the mages aren't treated SO badly here, and even if things
ARE a little rough for them, it's for the better good, isn't it?

I think Fenris compares everything to how he was treated by Danarius. I can just see him standing there thinking: The mages aren't treated badly compared to what Danarius did to me. They get fed, beds and aren't led around in a collar. It's.... disturbing really.

I agree that he always falls back into that old mode. Must hate mages! Suspect that is probably one of the things that kept him going. LOL! It gave him something to believe in.

My husband said that reminds him of me. <_< Bastardo!

Muse is my favorite band. Have you ever seen them live? If you haven't you must! They are amazing!!!!

Isn't Fenris the same height as female Hawke? Is male Hawke taller than female Hawke?

I've only hit rabbits, the occasional bird and raccoons. Never anything huge. I hope that never happens. Poor kitty :crying: I love cats too and I would have done the same thing. You're a sweetie.

WHAT?! NO!  M!Hawke is a paragon of masculinity!  He's 6'4 and full of muscles!

Okay maybe not quite like that but he is definitely taller than her in my head.  I see him as around 5'11, 6'.  Anders is really tall in my mind, like 6'2, 6'3.  Fenris is around 5'9 (and thus FemHawke would be quite tall if they're the same size, which I believe is Word of God [DG]).

EDIT: Also, happy to say I've never hit a living creature with my car!  KEEP KITTIES INDOORS!  People don't let dogs and children run wild and free, why cats?  Cats belong on your couch all comfy, not under the wheel of your car, all smooshed...

oh lol no I meant Zev is short. Shorter than the human female warden.

Another good FENRIS/Hawke song is "So Nice, So Smart" by Kimya Dawson.

"You're so nice
You're so smart
You're such a good friend I have to break your heart
I'll tell you that I love you then I'll tear your world apart
Just pretend I didn't tear your world apart..."

Ooh, more discussion!

motomotogirl wrote...

I have seen many people accusing Fenris of whining, and I have to say that personally, I have never really gotten that vibe. Unless when Fenris is really upset (Hadriana), he shows intelligence and the ability to reason. After everything he has been through, I wouldn't say the way he discusses some of those things is moaning and b*tching. Fenris doesn't want pity. He wants to move on, put his terrible past behind him. And for that he needs somebody with a listening ear. I don't think he talks that much about it either. Many details of his time with Danarius remain very vague ("the lad is rather skilled, isn't he?"  "Shut your mouth, Danarius!"). He doesn't reveal all that much about what Danarius did to him. He mostly speaks of the markings, and the ritual that cost him his memory. In fact, we know more of what Hadriana did (in small words: "deny my meals, hound my sleep") than Danarius. We assume torture from Danarius as well, and perhaps rape, but Fenris never ever mentions this himself. I assume because he is ashamed of some things (rape), and has put other things more past him (torture). The markings and his memory are more frequent topics because those are the most important to him. With this, Danarius took his chance of a normal, free life. Danarius took part of his humanity. And because that is such a terrible thing to have done to you, the worst thing, that is what Fenris needs to talk about to give it a place, to learn to deal with it.

Anders was moaning and b*tching a lot more, it seemed to me (I don't mean this as a bash Anders and uplift Fenris post. This is just my experience). When debating with Anders, his "arguments" were always a lot more emotional compared to Fenris' rather calm analyses. Whereas Fenris agrees to disagree, Anders keeps pressing Hawke to accept his point of view. I know why Anders acts that way, with Justice and all, but when simply putting these two guys next to each other, I can't agree with Fenris being the one whining.

motomotogirl wrote...

Yup, because he sees them all as potential Danarius material. All mages he has seen so far are magisters, or tools of the magisters. All doing terrible things to gain power. Not all may do this because they are powerhungry, but to survive in Tevinter, but that doesn't change the fact that they do it. The reasons don't matter when they do it. Why would it not be better to lock those potential monsters up?

He MUST hate mages.

On the one hand, yeah, I see that, I see what you mean, but on the other I have the feeling that that's not entirely it. I'm not sure how to express it. Perhaps that I don't think it is a conscious thing of him, and it could be that you mean that as well. I think he may have been weighing the Gallows he sees, and what he considers to be the alternative: the Tevinter Imperium. Then it's not so strange he comes to the conclusion the Gallows is the better option.

Renji LOL I love your sims xDDDD Flipping Fenris and Isabela are fantastic xD

I've just been busy and haven't had a chance to reply to your response xD Suffice it to say, I would NEVER accuse Fenris of whining; hey, I am one of his biggest fans so no worries on that account. I think he is a fabulous character (duh) and I've said before that I think DG and the other writers (if they had any input) balanced his "whining" (so-called) very evenly. He complains enough so that you feel sorry for him but not the point where he's being "Oh poor me, woe is me." The man was a slave, a SLAVE. It's a delicate thing to balance for a writer, I would imagine.

No, when I want Hawke to slap Fenris is when he says something NASTY to other companions, for the most part, such as when he calls Merrill a monster after Pol is killed.

Why, because you can´t see the markings otherwise, of course! I do have clothing that resembles his armor somewhat, but it has long sleeves, so you barely see a thing. I can also let sim Fenris walk around in his underwear. And let him take a shower.:wizard:

Haha, yeah, the ears and the markings are two very popular subjects to be exploited. The markings especially.

Fedcon? Your lucky...I had to miss Zenkaikon due to this semester draining my wallet in supplies AND Mocca to gather up news with the Illustrator's guild.

*Sniffles* I hate not going to cons after sampling a taste of going to my first 2 years ago. Now Otacon is gonna be filled with Bioware cosplayers. Oh well happy thoughts.

I need go back and answer some posts. You may beat me later for my evil.

Too much self indulging on my part. Should figure it out myself before giving people headaches.

Wow, I think your Hawke needs a VERY high persuasion skill for that one. When you ask if Fenris will allow it, my first reaction would be: "hell no". That doesn't mean you couldn't make it work, however. I think it depends on what you imagine with Fenris' past with Danarius. I believe in a sexual aspect, and combined with Fenris' "shut your mouth, Danarius!" that suggests to me that he is not comfortable with other people knowing about this (he also claims to Isabela he was Danarius' bodyguard, when she inquires about the 'glistening'). So he would be very reluctant at least when Hawke comes with this offer.
On the other hand, he does trust Hawke, and thus it may be possible to persuade him. It probably depends on the importance of this. Is the primary goal of the possession for Hawke to get to know everything about Fenris? Because then I don't think he would want to do that. It seems to me he wants to control what he shares, and when.
