My vision of how they continue after Kirkwall is to some extent along the lines of what's been said already: Fenris and Hawke initially help get things going in Kirkwall but soon after move somewhere quiet and out of the hectic aftermath. I imagine Fenris is feeling worn out from his constant running from Danarius and now that he no longer needs to constantly look over his shoulder he wants some sort of normalcy in his life. Perhaps they move to Ferelden (inspired by the conversation Fenris and Hawke have where Fenris asks if she has considered going back. "Still, to have the option must be gratifying" made me think that while he himself may not want to go back to his home, he might like to follow Hawke to hers, possibly making it his own); wherever they go, it is somewhere on the outskirts of a town, where peace and quiet reigns and ease of mind comes easily.
They never have children in my stories. There is always some sort of complication; be it the lyrium in Fenris body or some early torture he was exposed to or he simply does not consider it an option, something always prevents it. They are happy, though, and while time doesn't heal all wounds, it makes the memory of them fade so much that Fenris in time puts most of his ghosts from his past behind him.
I always imagine them going out exploring, adventuring and getting into trouble, though. I mean, just as many soldiers of war seem unable to settle down after what they've experienced, I cannot see Fenris and Hawke staying put for long. They would use their home as a base of sorts, a gathering place, a waterhole for the rest of the gang to come together but eventually they would leave if for nothing else then to see the world. I'm 100% certain they will go to Seheron and seek out the Fog Warriors for some sort of redemption for Fenris just as surely as they will go back to Kirkwall to see Gamlen and the place they first met.
So.. after an initial cooldown period, it's business as usual. Just a bit more relaxed and with lots more light-hearted party banter. I imagine Varric having more success getting Fenris to drink and play cards with him
I always wondered about this myself. I mean 'Fenris' was given to him by Danarius and as he hates everything Danarius stands for, the default logic would be to assume he'd reject it. But perhaps a name - even a forcifully given one - becomes personal after a time and changing it to what it once was would feel even more forced and fake than the one he has now. Also I can't imagine Fenris trying to explain that he now has a new (old) name to the rest of the gang; I'm sure that would feel extremely annoying and uncomfortable for him.dralkjin wrote...I have a question. Does anyone think Hawke would ever call Fenris by his real name? Do you think Fenris would allow it or would he want to leave the name behind him?
I would like to use his real name, though, and I think in my private fanfiction I'll write it in somehow. Perhaps as a personal pet name between the two of them for pillow talk? I haven't figured it out quite yet
Edit: EEEK sorry for wall of text!
