So. Um.  Hi.  I got trapped by Mass Effect again.  And a certain L2 and a certain turian.

I'm back to work on my DA2 fic.

And I come bearing a Fenris.

Yeah it's weird, I thought the only pretty thing about Fenris was the emo/anime-esque hair they gave him. Otherwise, he looks exactly like an ex boyfriend of mine. Strong, lean, tall, and very masculine facial features (especially the brow, the haggard skin, the tough jawline - eee! I could go on!) Uh for the record my ex did not have elf ears, though. Ha. Just thought I'd clarify that one, there.

Yeah it was the same with me. I had to get used to him, I didn't think he was attractive at all at first. I actually wanted to mod his face but when I couldn't find what I was looking for, I just gave up. And then he started to grow on me. Ho boy did he ever. The voice, his bloody brilliant sarcasm (MAKER, I love that), his everything but clean prettyboy features.

I still think he runs like a goblin though, that hulking over and I don't know, can't he stand straight?

I think the coolest thing about Fenris is how masculine he is. (Thank you Gideon Emery for such a manly voice, by the way.) I remember meeting Anders and not being as nearly as impressed.

Oh wow, that's so interesting.  I don't find Fenris masculine at all (obviously lol).  He's so ... pretty.  And tiny.  The only thing masculine about him is his voice, and that's why it's such a great choice for him.  It's startling.  In fact the first time I saw him I was disappointed because I thought he looked pretty ridiculous lol I know, blasphemy >.<

Well to be honest ... now as I think about it ... I find few aspects of traditional masculinity OR femininity in Fenris. Certainly Anders is the more masculine-looking; he also is the more sensitive and falls easily in love, which are traits traditionally associated with femininity (rubbish, of course, but there it is).

In short, I think Fenris defies stereotypes and tha'ts why we love him

In fact I think DA is very good about that because so far none of the characters have ever turned me off.  The men are very emotional and thoughtful and the women are assertive.  YAY BW <3

I decided that if I was going to get banned it would be for posting erotic pictures of Fenris the male elf, not wasting it on stating the obvious.

Actually I was being no nonsense about how you are pulling this passive agressive thing you got going on and with Aldien on how she shouldn't get mad over a subject on a public forum.
However if your going to ignore it...oh well.

Trista, Zevran was my favorite too. I also played elves. My city elf was my favorite.

Dracuella, I also wish he would stand straight. You would think a physically fit warrior would have better posture. Maybe his spine was injured somehow when he got his lyrium tattoos or something. I always thought Fenris was attractive, but I like elves.

I decided to stay out of whatever was going on yesterday. I don't know anyone here that well, but all of you seem like nice people. I hope those involved were able to resolve things.

I want to thank all of you who answered my question about Fenris's real name. It makes sense that he would want to leave the name Leto and that person in his past. I also don't think he cared to remember that person anymore after his sister told him what he was like.

Sialater, I really like that picture. I love his eyes. He looks happy in that picture. I would be interested in reading your DA2 fic if you don't mind. I would also like to read other fics if anyone has any suggestions for me.

The woman who created Fenris's look once said that he is supposed to look poised like a wolf ready to strike. She also said that after years of being on the run he is always on alert. After learning about her take on Fenris, I went and observed him ingame. He does have that animation where he looks like he is always watching his back. I think, and I can't say for sure, that they were trying to give him a coiled spring, ready to strike, paranoid, but alert warrior feel. If that makes sense. :)

I apologize to you and everyone else not involved for having to endure this. I'm done with it. Sometimes, feelings run high and things get out of hand. I take full blame for arguing the point openly on the thread. This is more of a historical problem that has roots from months and months ago. It's confusing and stupid and I'm sorry for falling for it.

But moving on :)

Yes, it does make sense, Aldien. Thank you for explaining why Fenris walks that way. I knew there had to be a reason. Although it looks kind of strange to me, I also kind of like it, because it makes his character more unique. It adds more to his personality and makes him seem more real. I'm glad the creator of his look chose to add that. I will definitely pay more attention to the way he walks the next time I play the game.

Sialater,. Those eyes... Umph!

So anyway, now that I'm done with my first playthrough of DA2, I'm now playing DAO. And I have to say, I'm really liking Alistair already. I think he may be the first Bioware LI I'm happy romancing who's human! Kaidan doesn't realy count, cos he was the only "straight" LI for the female. If Garrus had been avilible in ME1, I wouldn't have waited to jump his bones ^_^

Fenris may have had some serious competition with Anders, if he had had the same personality as he did in Awakening. But he didn't, so um... win for Fenris, then?

All the ME love interests for (straight) fem shep = poop. Meanwhile male shep has his pick of up to 6 different chicks. Those developers did not give much consideration to straight female (or even gay male) players.

Thane is the only one who mildly intrigues me. But I haven't made it to ME2 yet. Haha

Yes yes I know - I'm whining.

@Trista

Big Thane supporter.......(ya never would have guessed, eh?) :D

As for Fenris; I am just now finishing up my female Amell mage run through in DAO (don't really like playing mage in DAO). I will hopefully be importing into DA2 this weekend for a new mage F!Hawke for Fenris. I will also use the same save for a M!Hawke rivalmance with Anders. It will only be my second ever romance with Anders (takes forever for me to get through an Anders romance.) Really looking forward to my new mage/fenris romance......still trying to figure how I want to play her. I kind of see her as all over the map (mostly because that is how I have been playing her "cousin" in DAO.....blood thicker than water sort of thing... HA!) Time will tell. I post pics once I make her and my new M!Hawke. :)

What is it (for me) about elves and assassins? Must be that bad boy persona, at least in the case of Zevran and Fenris.

Thane supporter too, just in case you didn't notice. :) And I completely understand what you are saying Trista. Thane is very intriguing...must be the bad boy thing...

Yeah he's pretty hot. Beats the hell out of Kaidan (sorry if anyone likes him). That other alien Garrus is super cool but his face slightly weirds me out lol. Thane has a more human-like appearance.

And yes - assassins. Rogues, rather. I love them! Blame Harrison Ford from his Star Wars days. I was groomed to fall for the handsome rogue. <3

<-- hasn't played any ME at all!!
>__< I want to play now! But I have to redo some of my DA2 and I can't seem to get my arse in gear for Act III (the stuff that goes on freaks me out and makes me so sad. I procrastinated even more so the first time around).

I swear, after this? ME1, 2 and 3!

Not sure why, but Thane´s voice annoyed me. xD Well, the sound effect his voice had did. Garrus may not be the most handsom option, but his personality more than makes up for it. A badass and a sweetheart at the same time.

Oh, this is the Fenris thread? Ehhhh

(Shoves Trilogy into dracuella's arms) Go. Play. Now!

@ renjility. That's one of the many reasons why I think revealing Tali's face was a bad idea on Bioware's part. Tali is one of the most popular characters in the series, and the whole time, we never saw her face. We fell in love with her personality. So, we never really needed to see how she looked.

But, ahem. Right, Fenris thread. He . . . is handsome?

I was wondering how Fenris views himself in relation to other elves.

In some respects, Fenris reminds me more of a human in the way he acts than an elf. There were times in the game when it felt like he wanted to make certain people knew he was different, that he was no ordinary alienage elf. But, then there were times when he talked about 'our people' with Merrill in a sincere way.

That also brings me around to wondering if Fenris would ever consider a relationship with another elf. For some reason, I cannot for the life of me see him with a common ordinary elf. It's as if that wouldn't be good enough for him. Is Fenris a snob in some ways or is it pride or both? o_O

I think it is more Fenris has to be convinced by the person in question that he/she is worth being respected. It doesn't matter whether your an elf or a human. He doesn't have much respect for the alienage elves because he feels they squander their freedom. They are free, but are mostly content with living under the heel of humans. They have accepted their inferiority in a way, and that is something that pisses Fenris off. :P It makes he can't feel a connection to most of them. But I think that he would definitely respect a city elf Warden, for example, one that fought a human noble to free herself and her friends.

Fenris is a proud man, and thus he is not interested in people who don't try to make the best out of their lifes, but waste it living in poverty and with little (self-)respect. It is about what they do with the freedom they have.

So you think he sees the alienage almost like willing slavery? A prison perhaps?

Do the elves have to live in the alienage?

Yes I think so too. It's too bad we couldn't play as an elf. It would have been cute to see him with another elf, not that I think Hawke isn't great, but there is something funny about the idea of a small elf giving him hell.

Fenris is a proud man, and thus he is not interested in people who don't try to make the best out of their lifes

But is he really making the best out of his from Act 1 to 2?

I also wondered what would happen if Hawke died and had left Fenris say property or coin. Can an elf own property in somewhere like HIghtown?

No... worse, because the whole point is those elves are not locked up. They live there voluntarily, complain about it, but don't do anything to actually change their fate. They didn't have to do anything to be free, they were born free, and he feels like they waste it.
Do the elves have to live in the alienage?
They don't have to, as far as I know, but it is true most don't have much other options dus to the racism in Thedas. Of course an alternative is always going to the Dalish, so they have at least that choice, but there are many negative rumors about the Dalish, even among the City Elves, so it is a bit of a gamble for them to seek out the Dalish.
I imagine it also depends on the location they live. It seems likely the larger cities like Denerim and Kirkwall have an alienage with many elves packed upon each other, but they could also move to the countryside, I suppose. Circumstances may be better there.

You could say he isn't, no, but that's not completely fair. Keep in mind he is not truly free at that time. Danarius is still out there, possibly sending more armies of slavers after him. He doesn't have the chance to move forward while his past is trying to catch up with him and drag him back. That's the sad thing, and that is also (I think) an important reason why the romance with Fenris has such a rough start. He can't live the life he wants to yet. He still has to hide, look over his shoulder, live like a ghost. He is still fighting for his freedom at the time.

As Aldien said, perhaps he hasn't made the best of his own life yet but it seems he's struggling to get there. I'm on the same page as renji here, In act I+II he's constantly been on the run from Danarius and to me it seems as if he's come to the conclusion that in order to really get the most out of his life, he has to end Danarius'. So before that happens, he cannot be the best he can, in a sense.

So yeah, I think pride is a big thing for Fenris. Perhaps because of all that he has lost, it is one of the few things he can still claim as his own.

I don't know if he despises the elves in the Alienage. I think he does, as Renji said, to some extent think they're wasting their lives but the following conversation made me think he also pities them:

Merrill: You never come to the alienage, Fenris.
Fenris: I don't live in the alienage.
Merrill: Don't you care about the plight of our people? Not even a little bit?
Fenris: I don't need to visit the alienage to know what they suffer. I know it better than you.
Merrill: I've lived there for years! I see it firsthand!
Fenris: And I lived it.

I've often wondered if they could simply up and return to the Dalish and whether they would be welcomed back. Some of Merrils responses make me believe that they would (for instance when Fenris talks about being a slave in Tevinter, she says why they didn't just run away, the Dalish would have helped them. But since we never really hear about elves going back, it makes me wonder.
And if they could, why don't they then? Is it perhaps the idea of living in the wilderness with all it's uncertainty that makes them stay in the relative safety that is an Alienage?

Edit: stupid colours
