I'm trying to use AO3 for the first time but it's just not doing anything when I do a search. Is it always like this or is there a problem? I'm trying to narrow down the DA fics to the pairing I want but it's just not doing anything...?

You can narrow it down with tags. If the search engine doesn´t work, you can click on the ones you want in the list of fics that you see at the time.

That's the why the thought of not romancing Fenris just makes me sad, and it's why I have to not recruit him if I want to romance someone else. I'm so sorry, but this statement makes me very uncomfortable. Fenris should not need to be in a romantic relationship to figure out who he is or what his place in the world is, and if he does, then that is something he needs to work on too. Finding "independence" through someone else is not independence at all, but another type of dependence. 

Granted, no one is completely independent and it's clear that Fenris needs friends and loved ones just like everyone else, and if he happens to fall in love with Hawke (and the latter doesn't break his heart) then that's great too. I just don't see how not having a serious romantic relationship in the 7-10yrs he knew Hawke is worse than Hawke not picking him up at all. (I mean, Platonic Friend Hawke can solve all of his quests almost line for line and help him become a happier, calmer, freer person same as Love Interest Hawke, just without being his love interest, which I think is just fine. Fenris can discover romantic love on his own time and his own terms. I have faith in him. =)

He needs to figure out who he is in the world on his own. I honestly think the reason the relationship with Hawke failed in Act 2 was because that process was rushed. Fenris has always been in a relationship just not one of his choosing. When he remerges in Act 3, I think he has come to the conclusion that memories or not, he is ready for love, whether that is with Isabela or Hawke, I don't think it matters. It's his choice, on his terms without pressure to make it happen before his journey of self discovery has finished. (let the cheesiness flow) He needs to know who he is before he can commit or sow his oats.

Who said you people could go get a life when I wasn't looking? You can't be too busy to stop by and admire pic porn. I guess I should go find some to entice you.

Whelp, have to say I still disagree! Fenris is not a normal guy. I mean, dude is BROKEN. It is not something many of us can fully comprehend in this day and age, I guess (although severe abuse in the form of slavery does of course still occur today).

I don't think Fenris just needs a "friend." That's why I think just being his pal and not romancing him doesn't make sense. I don't think Fenris would or really could connect with someone so intimately with "just a friend." I think Fenris needs to be convinced that he can TRUST and LOVE someone fully and utterly, and that that person will ALWAYS be there for him and will not desert him. And to be honest, only a lover can make that kind of promise. (Or a family member, but excepting Varania...)

So that's why if Hawke is gonna romance Fenris, I don't recruit him, or maybe I kind of sort of head canon that he falls in love with Sebastian ... I pick Sebastian for him because I did begin to sense a connection between them in Act 3 banters. Plus Sebastian is the caring/nurturing sort, even if he is preachy and overly religious. It doesn't really matter HOW Fenris is nurtured and cared for, but he does need it. And I think he'll always need it. He is not the sort who can fly solo and be content for the rest of the life the way I can imagine Isabela or maybe Merrill doing.

Anyway, this is just how I read his character, and is a big part of why I love him so much. I love the characters who are fighting with every tooth and nail to survive, trying to brave and tough and make it. But deep down they desperately need help; they need someone to take them by the hand and pull them up and help keep them up. Hell, they need to be loved!

What can I say, I'm just a silly ole romantic I guess xD

Well, love comes in many shapes and forms. Not just romantic. I think a platonic relationship would also help Fenris get his life back together, so he can learn how to trust others. But I also think maybe he also needs a good romantic relationship where he and his partner are on equal terms. The Hawke and Fenris relationship was quite equal, might I add. I didn't see any slave/master stuff going on, so people please stop worrying about that.

Yep, I know some people have brought up that master/slave thing in regards to Hawke and Fennypoo but I agree; they are definitely on equal terms!

^^^ LOL oh gosh, that is exactly me. Although atm I'm finally getting through an elf mage origin romancing Leliana, but it is such a struggle. I was so wary of flirting at all with him in case he handed me his rose and declared "maker's breath you're beautiful." I couldn't handle it if he did.

Yep. I inadvertently flirted with him on my recent Zev romancing playthrough. Literally once. But because I got his approval up so high it changed to love. So I had to have the heartbreaking conversation where he said 'so I hear you've chosen Zevran. He's a lucky guy' etc conversation. It was honestly so bloody tough and I was sitting there feeling like a total cow. Bad times...

Haha, I must have accidentally chosen a flirt option for Alistair while romancing Leliana. He suddenly gave me the rose and I was like: oops... Then Wynne gave her preachy converstation, and I could say: 1. You know about Alistair and me? and 2. You know about Leliana and me? Lol. I was planning to romance Leliana, so I chose the second one, but halfway throug the conversation Wynne suddenly jumped from Leliana to Alistair, haha. That was odd.

I can honestly say I've never been ninjamanced in DA:O; I guess it's not hard to not flirt with girls and since I always play a guy, cutie Alistair is never an option *cries* I tried playing a FemCousland once but I wanted her to be snarky with him and that did NOT affect his approval in a positive way. I guess for Alistair you have to be all sweet with him?! That kind of annoyed me since I wanted her to be kinda beotchy, haha.

My DA2 OTP is (sarcastic) Hawke x Fenris, too (just a dude instead of fem) and ... it is torture on my current playthrough because I want to romance Anders again this time, and I'm not NOT going to screw up like last time and recruit Fenris. Because as soon as he walks out from behind that wall, Hawke forgot Anders in like a flash and I ended up romancing Fenris... AGAIN *orz*

I considered recruiting Fenris and just replacing his head morph with like Tomwise or someone ugly LOL but I would not be able to do that until after his initial cut scene and OMG by then it would likely already be too late; my Hawke would have fallen under his wicked spell of elfy sexiness.

So I decided not to recruit him, but oh god, how my heart quaked when I went to check Hawke's letters and saw "Bait and Switch" there.

Why did that come up again? Never said anything about the master/slave relationship. Interesting that it is inferred.

The response was in relation to Moto's response about Fenris needing Hawke in order to work out his problems. That's dependency not equality.

The game only shows one side of the Hawke/Fenris relationship. However, it doesn't matter because Hawke is an enabler when it comes to friends and to some extent family. He/she cleans up everybody's messes so the dysfuntion can continue. That does not make for an equal relationship. No matter how you choose to play Hawke it makes for a dysfunctional one. So yes, love comes in many shapes and forms not always healthy ones. That is what I was trying to get across anyway. Not always great at making a point. :happy:

I have seen plenty of that with FHawkeXFenris. I've also seen plenty of passion and sweetness with MHawkeX Fenris. If it bothers you that much just insert MHawke's face into the FHawkeXFenris picture.

I've yet to see gross and nasty tasteless Fenris x FemHawke art but I'm sure it's out there >.< Seriously though I think I've seen so many Rated XXX M!Hawke x Fenris stuff that I'm just like, aghghghgh can you guys please stop now?! Although yes there's definitely some sweet stuff out there on par with the lovely FemHawke x Fen art.

But I think with the weird sex positions it's down to m/m fans tending to be younger and, uh, not actually knowing anything about the male anatomy *facepalm*
