Came across this on tumblr:
Hawke's brain: Maker, this elf guy is H-O-T!
Hawke's brain: I just have to wait for the perfect opportunity to use my Hawke charm and then he won't be able to resist me.
Fenris: -and now he wishes his precious investment returned, even if he must rip it from my corpse.
Hawke's brain: OPPORTUNITY STRIKES
Hawke: Seems like a waste of a perfectly handsome elf.
Fenris: *giggle cough*
Hawke's brain: Nailed it

Oh, Hawke. We can always trust you to say something inappropriate in a situation that does not call for it XD.

^ I like that comic because all the guys have rivalry points which makes me think Hawke has been making the rounds xD
Haha yeah even Sebastian disapproves with a slightly "why-is-she-talking-to-HIM" look on his face.. Priceless
I always wanted a harem, perhaps I should try one of those JRPGs I hear people talk about *cough*
I have to admit I found some of Hawke's come-ons so toe-cringing and out of place it made me long for DAO. Particularly the first ones, they were so.. well a lot pushier than I would be when first flirting with someone. Perhaps I'm just timid :innocent:

I always play
You play FemHawke? Maybe it seems weirder for a woman, however freaking bad ass she is, to use those pick-up lines. I mean I know we are all for kick ass women here but perhaps we are subconsciously socially prgrammed to be okay with aggressive romantic males but not females.
Now I DO wanna facepalm over some of the Anders pick up lines. They are just ... wildly inappropriate at times! Here is Anders, going on about how he fears for his life, and Hawke is all, "Wanna come sleep at my place, handsome?" or thereabouts. Anders doesn't even acknowledge it; he just keeps on moaning about the templars. Awkward...

What's wrong with woman using pick up lines, moto? Most guys don't mind women using pick up lines on them. In this day and age, it shouldn't be weird for a woman to attempt to flirt with a man.

To me it wasn't so much using pickup lines in general as it was, as moto said, using 'those' lines. They just seemed so damned inappropriate and overly direct. And the timing? So, so horrible. I think Moto's 'Hawke's Brain Conversation' from before describes it best. I mean, someone has just told you that he's basically being hunted to be killed for something etched in his skin and you use THAT time to flirt with him? Really? I lost count of the amount of facepalming and toe cringing I did. <_<
No, I like subtle and underplayed comments that indicate cheekiness with propriety, served in the proper setting at the proper time. Don't just throw it in there because you can.

I've been told you can't have flirted with anyone -ever- to romance Sebastian, so I haven't tried that yet but it seems I owe it to my facepalm collection to go back and try.renjility wrote...
I think the Fenris flirts weren´t even that bad. Try Sebastian, now that was awful. It kept coming down to "let's have sex". At one point my Hawke basically offered herself for a one-night stand. Ugh. No. Just no.
As for the the flirt comments it's as if they only match the sarcastic line and sometime not even that. Most annoying.

QFT. Some of FemHawke's lines made me think of FemShep with Jacob in ME2.
And that's NOT a good comparison.
Mind you, I have no idea whether MaleHawke's dialogue is any different. I still have to force myself to get my Jackass Pro-Templar MaleHawke out of Lothering. *sigh* Achievements, why do I feel compelled to pursue you? (I was about to type "do you" at first and then did a double-take)

Most are so blunt; I don't like that. Blunt and shallow. They mostly focus on appearance and suggest the need for just sex. Only later in the relationship you get the sweeter lines that indicate you're there for the other.
@ dracuella: I never finished the Sebastian romance. Hawke was an archer as well, so she never took him with her. The relationship score did not get high enough for the final Questioning Beliefs. Then she spared Anders and Seb stomped off to Starkhaven. xD Not that I really liked the idea of a chaste marriage anyway...

Oh don't remind me....I literally felt like a sexual harrashment case around Jacob when all I wanted was a 'kiss on the cheek' dialog or "Flirty banter you don't hear from a $20 who-ore"
As much as I TRY, see the word try, to steer away from Fenris from flirting I always do it around the second time they talk...let my brain chalk it up as Hawke getting flustered around Fenris compliments, yet lands a good flirt when he's near drunk.
Than again thats just me not pulling a Danarius.

As usual, I was misread, misunderstood, or misinterpreted, so I simply highlighted and underlined what I originally said since I think it doesn't require additional explanation

DA2 just seemed to take the randy and aggressive flirt optis from DAO and made them the ONLY flirt options. (At least for the a good chunk of the game.) While they can be awesome, appropriate or funny for some characters, it doesn't always work for every character. =(

But yeah the single romance line option in DA2 is a bummer and definitely only works with sarcastic Hawke.

I guess the closest to shy/subtle is to respond positively to some of his flirting, but even then, for the romance to actually trigger you usually have to get him to start the flirting at all (ask him why he's staring at you, question him when he calls you beautiful/handsome/sexy) and the game expects you to play along and flirt right back, so yeah, it is a bummer for shy/reserved folk. :/
I guess it makes sense that yone would need to be more direct with Fenris, who comes across as rather dense, socially awkward and lacking in self-worth, but come on Hawke! Give the guy a chance to miss the subtler flirting before you hit him over the head with a clue-by-four. xD

Oh, that's very true. I forgot about that. (Come to think of it, I tried to romance Zevran as a reserved elf--not shy so much as just bad at showing physical and emotional affection--and I also had to have her break character just to get the romance off the ground.)

Actually, as long as you don't turn the romance off by outright rejecting him, you simply need to get his approval to 70+ (which is extremely easy, even without straightforward flirting) for him to proposition the Warden himself (massage convo). And there are a couple of shy replies to that proposal too. Heck, you can even refuse the massage without turning the romance off (by picking the "we're not exactly alone..." line). Meaning that it's possible to romance Zev without actually sleeping with him. I've not tried it myself, but I've heard about it being done.
EDIT: Partially

Hear hear. Seriously, to me, his response to the "waste of a perfectly handsome elf" flirt sounds like a nervous "who-the-hell-is-this-psycho" laugh.

There was one shy line ... when Zevran suggests a "massage" (ahem), the Warden can reply that s/he isn't ready for that (d'awww SO CUTE!!!) and Zev will charmingly back off xD
But you have to make the next move though and take him to bed.
OMG I remember that scene! (SQUEE!)
*ahem* Yeah, either way, you have to come out of your comfort zone to get him to come hither. I guess it makes sense for Zevran's character since he's really careful about testing the waters and always wants to make absolutely sure that the other person definitely wants to be with him before pursuing (for all his faults, he's definitely not the kind of guy that takes a lack of "no" as consent... *cough*Alistair*cough*), but it can still be really frustrating for those of us that don't want to flirt. >_<
(I guess you can see it as your character being forced to come out of their comfort zone to pursue the person they like the same way Zevran eventually has to come out of his comfort zone to express emotional love, so you guys end up ruffling each other's feathers and become uncomfortable together!

True, but then getting the romance triggered without being sassy or sexy is a little difficult. While he definitely comes onto the PC regardless of gender, the PC also has to return the sentiment for him to think he actually has a chance and start flirting seriously. If you don't trigger the romance, 70+ approval will come and go and you won't get any message offers. ='( (A voice of bitter experience.)
I guess it's not so bad though. An shy-ish way to get the romance triggered is just to ask him if he stares at everyone like that, and when he asks if it bothers you, tell him that you like it. (I guess I can see a blushing virgin squeaking that out.) It's true that once the romance is triggered, Zevran pretty much takes the reigns and can do most of the heavy come-ons (Antivan poetry, anyone? Message night, anyone? ;D) which you can respond with any level of shyness or enthusiasm without offending him.

Lol No kidding! XD To be honest, I remember when I first met Fenris and he mentioned how Danarius wanted to strip the lyrium from his flesh, I mentally saw a chance to flirt too, but not in the extremely awkward and intense way the line was delivered. >_> Maybe I'm no better for finding such an inappropriate time to let the guy know I'm interested, but still. ^^;

I'd say that's Leliana much more so than Alistair. I mean, simply asking her whether she had feelings of Marjolaine triggers a love confession. Seriously...wha?
I got ninjamanced by Alistair my first time through, but having looked at his lines on subsequent playthroughs, I don't quite understand how, because his triggers seemed pretty obvious. I can only think I must've done it on purpose out of curiosity.

Well, what about his convo at 30+, where he asks whether he can leave once the Blight is over? If you lead him to say "is there no one I could stay for?" ("not at all, you could leave if you wanted" > "but what if I prefer to stay?" > "why wouldn't you leave, if you had the chance?"), the reply to that is something along the lines of "I'd like that". That's not excessively flirty, and I'm pretty sure that it triggers the romance. Then you can safely proceed to 70+.
Fenris: Danarius would strip the lyrium from my flesh if he had the chance.Lol No kidding!
