Hmm...I didn't detect any specific accent there. Fenris, in particular, just sounded default British. Same for Danarius, whom I'd expect to be the real authority on Tevinter pronunciation. I admit Varania's pronunciation seemed peculiar, but I'd put it down to her VA's personal quirk. It's the same actress as Cassandra, she's got a very recognisable timbre.

As for the generic Dalish accent, I don't remember hearing any Scottish. But motomoto is right that it ran the gamut between Welsh and Irish, depending on the VA's proficiencies. Scottish is pretty harsh, and it would really stand out, Welsh and Irish are more lilting, with softer consonants (particularly the "r"s and the "l"s), which is what I remember hearing. This is also what the Wiki page about elves says (all the way in the Trivia section at the bottom).

Antiva seems like it was intentionally a mix between Italy and Spain. Rialto is an Italian term (name of a place in Venice), and if you look at a map of Antiva, there's also a city called Treviso (which is an actual Italian city). On the other hand, Ignacio, Castillon and Vincento (Feynriel's father) sound distinctly Spanish, and I believe Vincento even says "maldicion" at one point, which is straight-up Spanish. "Felicisima Armada" is straight-up Spanish as well.

EDIT for ToP: Fenris ponders about accents as well.

Wow, that Witch of the Wilds has the wardrobe budget of the gods!

It's definitely "her", though!

Uh, but Sebastian Vael's VA voices one of the generic Dalish elves! :D

Didn't know that one.

Just went and looked him up: he voices Fenarel, the elf who tells Merrill off after Marethari dies. Youtubed the scene, and he's actually doing an Irish accent. The same VA also does Seneschal Bran, who has a British accent. So he's just versatile Posted Image

Would that mean that Sebastian's Scottish accent was intentional then? That would entail that Starkhaven has its own signature accent.

I always assumed so. Whenever you read fanfic set in Starkhaven they tend to imply they've all got the same accent too. Guess I never considered otherwise actually...

Bah... are they ever going to announce anything for DA3? I'm starting to wonder if there will be a DA3.

Why is it when I play Skyrim I see so many similarities between it and DA2? It's as if they were copying off of each other. Bonkers.

I've always seen Thedas as different European countries so hence the different accents depending on the nationality. Kirkwall has to be England imo. Or not...it's just how I see it today. Interesting, though considering the accents and VA's. I felt Sebastian's Scottish accent was softer spoken than usual.

^Well, there was some artwork and strong hints at PAX. It still seems to me they are working on it, but want to wait with an official announcement until they are pretty far with the development.

Usually with a game I have a good feeling that it is going to be made like Half-Life, Max Payne, Elder Scrolls etc... but not so sure about this one for some reason. Someone told me the new ME3 ending was worth it. I just feel pessimistic about DA3 being made. Paranoia!

Well, there you go! Still different from most other "American-accented" English-speaking city elves! Posted Image

So it is, my mistake. I don't know, I think Scottish can sound very pretty and melodic (depending on the speaker), but it's probably just me. I always thought the logic behind Merrill's Welsh accent was that she was originally from a different clan.
Since Dalish clans are about as isolated from each other as they are from humans and city elves, I think it makes sense that they would have different accents from each other. I guess I just assumed that Scottish is probably in there in some tribe, somewhere, even if we haven't heard them yet.

Ugh...

I've said it before, but if it's to mess up their romanced flags yet again, I'd just rather they didn't bring them back at all...All it does is aggravate people.

I can see it now Zevran stuck in a spiderman situation not knowing he was in love with the Warden only to have retconned but still remember it!
And for Fenris.....I rather have him with lyrium addiction being tended to by a mysterious bearded mage (cause we all know the game has a male hawke as the default
 on the packaging....mumble mumble)

Got a question for you Fenris fans. Do you think he can swim?

Since, for people who don't live on islands where shellfish fishing or pearl diving is a way to make a living, I'm thinking that swimming is a leisure activity and that a former slave would never have learned, but I'm curious what you think.

^ I am going to say a huge maybe...he might of learned around Danarius since he accompanied him on trips for unseen events, or the fog warriors teached him, or he might of learned when he had the time in Kirkwall.

Hmm, I think he can't swim. Minrathous is a port city, but I doubt there was time to teach him.

We still need a Fenris on this page.:o

Fenris must have soiled himself when he was escaping via boat, Ren. ;) I just wanted to say that I appreciate you are posting both FHawke and MHawke piccies :D It is very considerate unlike the rest of us biased bastards ;) Mostly me.

Hmmmmmm it is a seriously wonderful question. I have to consider that Danarius would have insisted Fenris learn to swim in case he was rendered unconscious during a voyage to Seheron. Then, Danarius would sleep easy knowing Fenris would be able to save his master. ;) (let the bastard drown!)

I read today that speculation says DA3 will be delayed a year due to the team being needed elsewhere on another project. Heresay, but what was said made sense. Thought I'd throw that out there. Interestingly, people assume another year will equal greater quality in the end product. Nonsense I say! It is either production lined or crafted. Same with everything.

Thanks for the answers, folks! I think I'm going to go with "no," tho. Danarius liked to play head games too much to allow Fenris to do something that would make him feel normal. He liked him to feel isolated. It must have galled Fenris to see other young people playing in the water on a hot day and been unable to join them. I could imagine Danarius picking up on that resentment and capitalizing upon it.

Is this for fanfic?  I think either explanation would work, meaning, neither one will make your reader call foul ^_^ If you wanted him to seem vulnerable, then BOOM, you've got your scene where it's revealed he can't swim.  If you want him to see him capable and swoon-worthy, then BOOM, you've got your scene whre he escapes from the notorious smugglers by slipping into the water and moving, stealth-like, through the depths...

Works both ways xD
