Okay, it's official. I am addicted to this game and yes *Fenrisy grumbles* it is much better than DA2.

Its weird - until this playthrough of DAO I'm doing I'd have said DA2 was easily  my favourite. Now I'm not so sure. Its sort of like having children. They've both come from the same set of parents but bloody hell they're pretty damn different! I can't possibly choose which one I love more; I love them both in equal amounts for completely different reasons.

On a side note I'm seriously considering getting the DA2 Collectors Edition Prima Guide, purely because its designed like the Seekers book from the end of DA2. Am I an idiot for wanting to spend the money just for this?  It just looks so damn gorgeous. I have no beliefs it will have any information that I don't already know but......MAKER IT'S PURTY! :o Does anyone else have it who can attest to it's beauty? ;)

Snipsy!

Thank you Amirit! :D

Oh nice Fen piccie. :DDD I haven't seen that one before.

Don't get me wrong I love DA2 and for a long time I really could not understand what people were complaining about. The complaining in particular put me off of playing DAO strangely enough.

Honestly, after playing DA2 first and then DAO. It is like two separate games by two different companies. Did that make sense? It's obvious that they rushed DA2 but I never denied that. If you compare the two then I understand why people complain so much. It does make DA2 look like an add on.

One of the biggest differences, and I'm going sound like a victim of abuse, is the way the companions treat you. Everyone is so angry in DA2! I think I would have preferred more compassion from the companions in DA2 and a bit more attention. Everything with Hawke feel very one-sided. Do this for me, do that for me and if you are lucky I might compliment you. ;) I know, I'm sure I said the complete opposite several posts back but that was before I played DAO. Merrill feels like she might be kind of the Alistair replacement but she didn't pull it off. Poor Hawke just needed a hug. :( Actually, maybe the Arishock needed a hug or a cookie.

sweet! I'm glad you are enjoying it (and Staarbux replaying too!). I really do love both games but DA:O is my favorite. On my.. 6th?.. PT now and still finding new banters.

I started mapping out the Leto/Varania one, hopefully it won't take too long to complete but trying some new ideas and a full background.. so we'll see.

Speaking of which, I now understand why everyone loves Alistair.

It makes sense that the 2 best (imo) male LIs (Ali & Fen) were written by the same guy. They are so different and yet so wonderful.

haha oh yeah the ginormous hands and the long arms.. especially when playing a female dwarf. I love this Aimo comic

Any of  you see this BioWare Men's Club meme challenge 'Hair club for men'?

I'm going to fill it out for Fenris, one with long hair, one with mohawk, what other hairstyles should he have?

QFTT

Would not go in to details - you all know the arguments. I will only say "tрanks" for the definition. DA2 might be a good add-on (Fenris alone makes it a great add-on) - but it's still an add-on.

Actually, if you look at DA2 (and I am afraid DA3 too) from this point of view it can save a lot of disappointment. There is a great game - DAO - and several perfect add-ons to it with different plots expanding the world. At least I will look at the rest of the series this way.

As a note, Zevran was also written by Gaider, like Alistair and Fenris! ;) He has a knack for good romances, I guess. Personally, I prefer Zevran to Alistair . . . I don't know, I guess because Alistair's romance always seemed so puppy-crush, high school romance to me, and while that's some people's idea of a great romance and that's perfectly fine, it just doesn't work for me. Zevran, on the other hand, takes more work to build the relationship, and when he falls, it feels deeper and more real to me.

I think part of it is just that I like the romances that really make you work for the emotional payoff. Alistair and Anders are both "I LOVE YOU!!!" way too fast for me, while Fenris and Zevran take their time to come to that conclusion (and neither one ever actually says it in those exact words, which I am fine with). Plenty of people feel exactly the opposite! XD

Big Zev fan here *claps Harle on the back*! But, I do still adore Alistair.....just find Zev more to my taste. In fact I am doing an interesting PT right now with a CE who starts off with Alistair, but will end up with Zev. (and yes....grabbing the bottle of wine for the breakup with Ali, but the breakup is fitting for RPing this Warden. *wink*)

@Almirit and @Aldien - Good job remembering the No Helmet hack mod, Almirit! @aldien, this mod works brilliantly! Oh, and I PM'ed you a bunch of mods. Just make sure to read instructions; some mods don't always play nice with other mods. But that is what multiple play throughs are for, am I right!?! :D

I have it!

I got it as a present this past Christmas haha. It is very pretty! It's on sale I believe in the BioWare store or even on Amazon, so it's not as much as it used to be when my sister bought it for me.

It didn't think I would ever use it while playing but surprisingly I have been using it on my current third playthrough. I just wanted to max out friendships and rivalry as soon as possible so the book came in very handy for that. So I would say, GO for it!

I had no idea he wrote Zevran as well! He has a knack indeed! I was planning current Warden to mess around with Zev and then move to Ali but here we are, about to go to the Landsmeet and she's still with Zevran. best laid plans were thrawted by his ridiculous awesomeness.

Is this the link to the tumblr account? http://kjfern.tumblr.com/

It has April's picture on there so I thought it might be.

*Ahem* There are some really lovely pictures of Fenris on there too at least two that are adult material.

As far as Alistair goes, it did take me awhile to warm up to him. I tend to go for the broody serious type. The first couple of conversations made me debate whether I liked him or not but then I think it's when he starts talking about his life that I found him interesting. Everything together he is adorable. Next playthrough will be Zevran. Right now, I can't picture myself liking him over Alistair. Don't worry Fenbear you're still my favorite ;) Strangely, I think Fenris might scare Alistair more than Darkspawn. I wish they would make a party in DA3 mixed with characters from DAO and DA2. Morrigan and Fenris would just lurve each other. ;)

Thank you - you have saved my sanity! I wasn't sure why it didn't come up with I looked at the Sebastian tag but realise it's 'Sebastian Vael' I have tagged. Meh.

Knew I saw it though.

My only problem with Zev is that it's so scary serious. You can break up with Alistair with no approval drop but with Zev it's like you are killing man's last hope for happiness and he will never trust anyone anymore in his life.
Maybe it's only my imagination but I do not toy with Zev in my playthrough :)

Just figured something out five minute ago.

Alistair = Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Spike = Fenris

Gaider said Xander was his inspiration for Alistair and when I thought about it, I realized Spike, with his white hair, broodiness, drinking, troubled past has to be the inspiration for Fenris. Well, it makes sense in my mind. There's just too much similarity and I think Fenris looks a bit like Spike too.

Okay will go hide while I get things thrown at me. But you have to admit getting inspiration for a character from Buffy could easily lead to inspiration for another.

Welcome to team DAO, aldien!:D I knew you'd come around, haha. You probably already knew this, but don't forget to press the TAB button wherever you are in DAO. In DA2 you have to option to automatically highlight all interactable objects, but in DAO only the TAB key will reveal them. My first Warden missed SO MUCH because I did not know about that. I msised codex entries (= XP), quests and even class specializations. Oh, and there is dialogue with a lot of NPC's, so it's worth it to click on pretty much everyone you see. On my seventh time in Ostagar I found out you could actually talk to Loghain if you talked to his guard. =] Not that it's important or anything, but it's just fun.

On my first playthrough I also preferred Alistair to Zevran. I thought Zevran was funny (his banter with Wynne is hilarious), but didn't think I would want him as a romance. But once I did romance him with my second Warden, he immediately became my favourite. Underneath it all he's a real sweetheart. :P

Don't you think Fenris is too much of Wolverine to be anyone else? :) Not saing it for trolling or anything just too many things are completely identical. Not that there is anything bad in it - you can not have too many bdoods with tragic past :)

I went for Alistair because he reminds me so much of my own boyfriend XD

But for Zevran . . . he's most of the time paired with my Female Cousland. All of my other characters go with Alistair (Most of the time she's the Amell Mage. In fact, I consider my female Amell my canon playthrough).

I chose Fenris because he's voiced by Gideon Emery, and for the longest time after playing FFXII six years ago, I had a huge fangirl crush on his voice. Plus, I just didn't like Anders one bit.

There's just too many similarities and since Gaider borrowed once from Buffy the vampire slayer, it wouldn't surprise me if he did it again. I would never have made that connection if it had not been for the Dragon Age wiki. Once I saw Xander was the inspiration for Alistair all I could think is that Spike was the inspiration for Fenris, because their personalities are very very similar. The whole broody dressed in black bad attitude drinking vampire hopelessly in love with the heroine/ hero depending on how you look at it) vampire slayer chosen one (whose family is hard up for money), and whose mother is almost risen in zombie state and has helpless sister that people want to take away is just too much of a coincidence. Well for me it is. Did I forget to mention Spike's tortured past and the fact he changes his ways in the end? Who also lives in run down crypt and has Buffy's friends around visiting occasionally? And doesn't think he is worthy of love?

So... can you play as a human mage that is not a noble? I made a human character tonight but I only got the choice of noble and I don't want to be bloody noble!

Well, technically no. A human mage is always an Amell who are nobles. But the fact they're a noble family doesn't come into it at all - they're a mage first and foremost and depending on how you write their backstory, they might not even remember who they are really....

If you were offered the option of a noble are you sure you didn't choose rogue/warrior? What's the character's last name?

When you enter the Circle you loose everything you previously had/were, so I think the human mage is not really nobility anymore.
When you choose human you can become a human noble if you want to be a rogue or warrior. When you choose a human mage you get the circle tower origin, which is the same for an elven mage.

Actually, Aldien, Zevran was inspired by Spike. You can see that down in the trivia section here. I doubt Gaider recycled the inspiration for a second elven LI. ;)

Also, if you choose the mage class, the only origin available to you should be Circle Mage. Noble only comes up as an option for human rogues and warriors. Make sure you have the right class selected!

Have you guys seen the rumour about the Dragon Age 3 plotline? A new survey from EA suggests they've sent the plotline/some possible companions to people and are asking for their feedback...I have no idea whether it's true or not but wasn't surprised to see the 3rd possible companion there. ;)

I should say I have NO idea how accurate any of this is but it sounds like a fairly likely storyline from what we've heard.

Article and more information here BUT THERE BE SPOILERS so no whining to me if you want to stay spoiler free!!

LOL! I think you enjoyed telling me that a little too much. Suspects smug face ;)

I see more Fenris in Spike or should that be more Spike in Fenris? o_O It's just not sounding right no matter how I word it. ;) It's the white hair, lack of humor, always picking on Xander, and I swear Spike throws a wine bottle against the wall in one episode, plus he's rough with Buffy. Doesn't he slam her against a wall? I'm leaning towards borrowing twice.

So... I went to the character creator thingy and I selected human but it would not allow me to select mage. o_O I could only choose between warrior and rogue and then I ended up being a Cousland which is so very no. Why does anyone ever want to play as a noble? Mage noble I can handle since they are treated like every person in the circle. Noble with nickname pup makes me want to hurt someone. *bangs head* What am I doing wrong? I swear some days I burn water when I boil it.

Staarbux, that rumor looks very plausible. It has all the elemnets that were hinted at in DA2. I really don't want to play as a glorified detective though. :/

..I have no idea whether it's true or not but wasn't surprised to see the 3rd possible companion there.

Huh? I only noticed two character possibilities listed. Where is the other one? I feel dumb today. :crying:

That must be a bug, not being able to select mage for humans. :/ Only dwarfes can't be mages. Possibly a mod conflict. Have you download any mods that add classes or something like that? I know adding a new class made me unable to choose the Orlesian Warden in Awakening. Instead I got all the Origins, which can't be right.
