(Gasps) Someone . . . else . . . who likes Cousland and Zevran . . .? YUS! (Throws a party) I thought I was the only one! XD
But yes, I love the "ironic" pairings. It's one of the reasons why I actually don't like Cousland and Alistair or even Hawke and Anders - especially if the former is a mage. They're too similar. And from a story point of view, there is no dynamic between them. The Mage/Bastard prince-Ex-Templar, Dalish-City Elf/bastard prince, Noble/Ex-elven slave, noble/elven assassin make far more interesting pairings because they are a stark contrast to what is expected in their society. They are defying it, and I think I speak for everyone when I say those kinds of stories are ones we all love to watch or read ;-)
Which, to be perfectly honest (and this is just my personal opinon! Fae, please don't bite my head off), if why I find the City Elf/Zevran, and Dalish Elf/Zevran pairings to be . . . well . . . boring. In my head cannon, my FHN presents herself at the end with Zevran, announcing that she and him are an item, and that she doesn't give a nug's ass what they think. She and him love each other and that's all that matters.
You know, I kinda wish Bioware had written in more reactions to the romances. Especiallywith the ones I pursued.

As for Hawke/Fenris: To be fair, I don't hate human/elf relationships on principle, but I don't want to be the human.

lol. I might continue with my goofy MSPaint fenris art for you guys. Just so I can, every so often, throw in a crappy likeness of him, coupled by scribbles of forced wit.

dude, I'm gonna come clean here. I'm gonna be honest...
I think most of the people who hate the romance in the BW games have intimacy issues. (Because, you know, it's just a game. The npc's aren't going to get you pregnant or anything...) There I said it. (And I hope I didn't offend anyone...)

-City Elf and Zevran just kind clicks for me. Two non-magic elves living under the heels of humans their entire lives and now out and showing the world what they're made of. (Double points if the CE is a duel-wielding rogue who can gush with Zev about daggers, poisons and leather, and triple points if the CE developed a quirky sense of humour because of his/her upbringing.) I feel like it also has a subtle "sheltered versus experienced" vibe as the CE is implied to have never left the alienage his/her entire life, while Zevran most certainly has seen a lot of the human world. Zevran was also raised to make his heart cold to love while the CE comes from a loving community, which would be an interesting dynamic.
