Ren said: Heh, and the romance haters claim that sexually frustrated people use
the game romances to feel loved because they can't get it in real life

Pffffft the people saying that obviously haven't met me and my husband. I think it's the opposite. I think they are uncomfortable with sex and sexuality. There could also be an agenda there as well. I always keep that in mind considering how much controversy there is surrounding BW's romances.

Amirit said: But speaking about romanses I was thinking about Aldien's suggestion about petition for Gideon return.

April said that. The problem is we have no idea if Fenris in DA3 or not, so if we petition for Gideon and he hasn't been called back to voice, then what are petitioning? o_O

Trista said
: @aldy - oooh I dunno. Hehe - both! <3

It wasn't in reference to your artwork. ;)  Is there a Cullen backlash going on? I have nothing against the guy. I might like his romance if it doesn't remind me of Alistair...depends. I daren't go look at the DA3 forum. It's viscious and it is heartbreaking when people just dismiss part of the game that many people love. I did see Gaider telling some of them to chill the hell out the other day. He was positive about the fact that so many people were excited for DA3 adn the romances, as it should be. :D

Flippy said: In my head! Stealing my thoughts! Stop it, you brain fiend! You dun'
wanna mess with me! I'll wallpaper the whole room with tinfoil!

You just need a wire clothes hanger and some foil and you could have a hat that rivals any DA mage. ;)

Flippy the CE romance with Alistair is excellent! It's my second favorite after mage. I only love mage/Ali romance because it feels naughty. But one thing.... when he talks about still being able to use his templar abilities my warden mage raises an eyebrow. It's almost a little tiny threat or a superiority complex. I can't decide. Then again, being dominated by Alistair could never be a bad thing. ;)

Ah, that was the idea... I got it like we are going to demand Gideon's voice for new LI in DA3 :)

Trista - your MS paint is so cute, his little pouty face and bed head. adorable.

Gideon for DA3! I wouldn't mind if he's another LI voice... as Ghost said (and I love this quote) - his voice melts panties. and if I'm the only one. I am okay with that. what can I say... major star struck crush over here for Mr Emery.

ah thank you! :) She's one of my favs and that face was straight import from ME1->ME2->ME3 (although i did tweak her lips to tone down the ducky-ness a bit in ME3)
(here's a vid I uploaded of her scene with Garrus on the Citadel: Miss on Purpose)

You are so right.. my BroSheps.. just... Posted Image
I did try to make one of mine like a cross between Keanu Reeves and Burce Campbell (for the lulz). Of course, he doesn't show available for import into ME3 for some reason.

It's about as tough as creating a FemHawke that doesn't have a round baby face.

hee! Poor neglected g/f (just teasing). One of the many things I enjoy about being single is the ability to play anytime for as long as I want without getting any nasty looks, well, except from my cats.
Thank you for the nice comments on my Warden/Hawkes! I try to make them unique. And I figure it's okay for warden to have purple hair, because you know... magic!

awesome! I will check them out tonight when I get home!
If you can 'machinima*' a Fenris singing Gideon, that would be awesome, then I don't have to try to figure out how to animate one (draw a million fens?).

*I put that term in quotes since I have no idea what it is or how it's used, beyond knowing it's some way you are able to take models from the game and manipulate them to create movies/scenes.

I don't understand all this hate generated toward romances either. :/ Honestly, that's why they're optional. If someone doesn't want to use them, then no one's forcing them to do so. Why try to take the option away from other people, or try to ****-shame people who do want it so they'll back down?

aldien wrote...

Fae now... I never said elf/elf was boring. I would prefer Fenris with an elf but that's not possible so I have my snarky Hawke give him lovin'. Usually it is a mage, though I have issues with that, but snarky Hawke is so funny Fenris can see past her evil magic voodooness.

lol "Fae now," i c wat u did ther. ;)

I don't know, the thread consenus at the time seemed to be that elf/elf or Elven Warden/Zevran wasn't very interesting or fun, so I wanted to advocate for the other side. It's what I do. Sorry if it came across too harsh. =(

The best bit of city elf/Alistair for me was when she invites him in to meet her family and they are all sitting around the table together and she gives him her seat. That was a big awwwwww moment for me, and I could see her family becoming his family too. I think they would accept him eventually.

Aww. Was that a mod? Where did you get it?

April, ha, I think she wished I had neglected her XDD I bugged her everyday about how cool the games are and tried to get her to play through at least an origin story. No luck.

Egh, BroSheps. I can't make one to save my life. I have four BroSheps all with different specs and backgrounds and all of them have the same face - Sheploo =__= I just can't play otherwise. My own all come out looking like generic action flick stars or escape convicts. I just stick with the underwear model face and work really hard on characterisation.

Fae, for what it's worth, I kinda got the same vibe too from the thread, that's why backed you up on the elf love. Oh well, misunderstandings are a part of life.

Also, Aldy, do share with us what that Alistair mod was. I think I know, but I wanna make sure.

Fae, mage elf/Zevran high-five! That was my very first DAO run and I love it to all the bits. Although, I went with "more sex than a brothel" Circle background for him. But I did love the romance for that same second part you described - emotional background. And I love that you can choose the "I don't remember anything before the Circle" lines to really hammer home how absolutely sheltered that particular Warden is. Suffice it to say, that particular romance was one of the best dynamics I've written to date. I don't care what people say, Circle Mage origin is awesome[/s].

Woo! Another Mage Elf/Zevran fan! :D

I don't know, I know every Warden/LI pairing has its fans, but Surana/Zevran doesn't seem like one of the more popular ones, which I personally think is kind of a shame. Then again, I didn't really think about it until I initiated the romance in the first place, so I'm not one to talk. :P

I actually made a Surana who did remember a little of life among other elves, but it was so fuzzy and vague that it seemed like a distant life. For this reason, I think Zevran seemed to be at the same time nostalgic and exotic. He was the first non-magic elf living in the open world that Surana got to spend time with, which brought on long-burried feelings of familiarity and nostalgia from her days before the Circle. At the same time, he seemed so foreign, exotic and exciting. And, of course, they're birds of a feather anyway since they both deviate from the roles any society might place on them.

Anyway, it's a sweet dish no matter how you serve it. =)

Arghh, I always wanted to try CE/Alistair! You can do so much with that dynamic! But it's in the same group as HN/Zev. I just don't have the time to write more than one character for each origin and romance that I've already played through. The only exception was made for the mage origin, which should tell how much I love it.

Hm? How is the CE/Alistair in the same group as HN/Zev? If you don't mind me asking?

Fae, ah, it's something I talked about yesterday with MissRedZelda. She brought up the topic of romances where the partners come from two very disparate backgrounds, bringing up Cousland/Zev as an example of one such pairing that she loves. I then proceeded to wax poetic about how much I adore the potential of such a dynamic and really want to explore it, but can't afford the time to write one more character for a background and romance I already played through. The CE/Ali pairing is the same for me in that regard - I really love the potential for development it has, but I don't posses the leisure time to write one more character for DAO, CE origin or the Ali-mance. Maybe, someday...

Yeah, I noticed Surana/Zev is not exactly hot cakes, but it does have it's fans in the Zev thread, like Klidi. I think the most popular Zev pairing is with Tabris... I actually had one drafted too, but then my DE love kicked in and that character had a more interesting relationship with Zevran, so the CE was scrapped.

And I always think developers in most of the games hate women and it's much easier to create a hot guy then acceptably looking girl. In ME I try to not look at my FemShep at all or use helmets.

Mb it has something to do with gender :)

I am super glad people can appreciate my fly-by-night art. There will be more in the future - like stocking stuffers for your eyeballs.

So, to just kind of jump back into things, I replayed DAO, romanced both Alistair and Zevran, and made it so that Alistair 1. doesn't die (thanks to Morrigan's vagina), 2. doesn't become king (thanks to Anora's buttface), and 3. doesn't run away like a whiner (thanks to Logain being turned into hamburger meat).

I've never done any of that before, btw.

So with all that, I'm hoping to start a new DA2 game, and hoping to run into Alistair as the leader of the grey wardens (I mean, who is Stroud anyway, right? Alistair should run that game and I want Hawke's sibling right up there with him - I've never SEEN that before!)

My question is... I'm probably going to romance Fenris (again) but should I be so bold, how does one rivalmance him? Do you have to be mean to him constantly? lol. If he's 100% rivaled, he sticks with you to the end, right? And sticks around in the epilogue, right? I've never been bold enough to rivalmance. (trista - always playing it safe...) Any advice would be greatly accepted.

Thankfully you don't have to be mean to him. =) (I don't think. Actually, I think you can gain rivalry by being too nice to him. Fenris hates being pitied.) I think an easy way to do it is to bring him along to quests and locations where you know mages are going to be involved and then side with the mages. Easier still if you are a mage (which will net you rivalry right off the bat) and when you refuse to cow to him. Hell, being nice to Merrill can gain rivalry. xD

Actually, here's a really nice friendship/rivalry guide, if you want to look it up. =)

EDIT: 100% rivalry is like 100% friendship in that once companions hit it, they're locked into permanent loyalty. =)

Amirit, really? I have a much easier time with FemSheps. Granted, I still need to work a lot, sometimes employing the help of masseffectfaces, but it's because I just suck at CC in general. DAO was a real trial, but in the end I created enough decent looking people of all races and genders. Except male dwarfs. I just can't do it. It's like licking the sky.
Eh, I dunno, maybe sometimes. I doubt it's the case now, since you're female too, right? But then, standarts for what constitutes attractivness vary wildly between people. Some Sheps that everyone raves about being knockouts are downright ugly to me and think the reverse is true. Never tested it though XDD

Oh piffle, Fae ;) Harsh is but a flesh wound. You are a gentle massage.

What??? Wait.... and I am being serious here. You guys don't get the cutscene where the city elf gives his/her seat to Alistair while the father and Soris (I probably spelled that wrong) are talking? The father laughs, Alistair is listening to his every word and the warden has her hand possessively on Alistair's neck???? Did I inadvertently have a mod that did that? I thought it was part of the vanilla game o_O

April you are a technical person aren't you? (shoot me if that sounds assy. It's not meant to be... I didn't know how else to word it. Aldy=inept with words) I've gathered whiffs of it here and there through the posts. I am not trying to be patronizing. It's hard to get to know people on here through snippets. I have been talking to Ren for over a year and I still guess at her likes and dislikes. Mostly, I gather the dislikes ;) I have Fenris in the half-life 2 engine/game so I can do the machinima. I just... well it's a lot of work so... only if there is interest. But yes, I can lip synch him in any language and any song. You guys interested? You have to be in for the long haul. Funny thing is... if I pop HL2 on the machinima tag it will get more hits. But... hmmmmm that's cheating. Maybe it's just one for the thread?

My Femsheps always end up looking the same: dark hair with blue eyes. Although, I have made a few dark skinned ones with dark hair and blue eyes. But the only one I've managed to do a mega, full on playthrough all three games was a shameless idealised self-insert Femshep. She had pale skin (Not as bad as me though. Seriously, I look like a corpse in winter sometimes), green eyes and dark hair. Romanced Garrus and saved Ashley.

Anyway. Fae, I don't hate elf/elf pairings. I understand their appeal, the whole "birds of a feather flock together" kind of thing. In real life, I would go for that. But DA isn't real life, and in fiction, I prefer opposites attract for story reasons. But, the biggest reason for my love of Zevran/F!Cousland, F!Amell/Alistair, F!Surana/Alistair, Hawke/Fenris stems from my desire to see a social change in Thedas. If you notice, one of every one of my pairings is either an elf or a mage with a normal human. Ideally, they are forbidden form one another. From a fictional storytelling point of view, I prefer them.

And honestly, I don't lump mages in the same category as humans. It's not because I think they 'aren't people (and I don't think that at all. I'm very pro-mage). It's because in the game, they aren't considered people, and are just as discriminated against as elves.

So yeah. Whenever I hear about a an elf/human getting together in DA, it makes me happy. Oh, and Fae, I hate Anders. I will never in a million years romance him. Fenris all the way.

Kinda sorta... I know general things, I've built websites, tiny bit of generic video editing for my youtube vids and some photoshop. I try to learn trial by fire and got a wonderul dad that I can bug for help (he used to do IT work, knows tons more than I). So I'm willing to learn how to do it and generally pick up things quickly. I also used to do CAD work making digital maps (the ones on mapquest) so.. if you get bad directions in Illinois or New Mexico or West LA/Venture County in CA.. sorry about that. haha

edit #2 I got sidetracked. I'd love to see it if you have time... Is this part of the 'toolset'? That is the next thing I want to tackle and learn. If I can learn it, I'd be willing to try to make it... my hobbies keep me at home, so I've always got plenty of time. I sound pathetic. eesh

You have linkies to your vids? What kind of vids?

Hey. now... you don't sound pathetic. Stop that! I wubbles you and all the people I have had the privaledge to get to know on this thread(even Ren), whether a little bit or more. I love your artwork and your passion for the game and all the wonderful tidbits you share with us. Sometimes I don't comment because I already talk too much, but I always read and take notes for blackmailing later. :D So shushies.

My husband used to be a mechanical engineer so I'm somewhat familiar with looking at CAD. But working with it? Takes a genius, I swear. I can't visualize it, so my hat is off to you dearie. :D Oh it's okay. Since my husband won't follow directions and demands to drive, I'm going to have to deal with bad directions no matter what ;) You worked for mapquest?

No, it's not part of DA at all. I know nothing about the DA toolset. It's outside of the DA game completely. I ummmm have an intimate relationship with Half-Life and errrr things to do with it. ;) I took the Fenris model, put him in XSI (modelling program) rigged him and placed him in the Half-Life 2 game. I use Faceposer to animate his expressions. Gordon Freeman ring a bell? If you don't know Gordon Freeman I shall spank you. ;) Totally different game. Fenris can shoot people and pal around with Barney Calhoun atm.

No, I've never seen or heard of this scene before in my life! If it was, I'd be all over like stink on dogs! Shianni invites you to stay over for dinner and offers to grab some wine when you accept, then Father tells you need to eat something because you're too skinny, and yet trying and trying to get some sort of cutscene to trigger just never worked! Ideally, I can see where you're coming from, and social change is a noble goal. Unfortunately, I can see why it's taboo among elves to be with humans, since all offspring and descendents from all elven/human unions are human. Even with the taboo in effect, many elves are leaving their clans and alienages, getting together with humans, having human babies, and the elven population and culture is dwindling despite their best efforts. I fear that social change that involved elves being able to freely intermarry with humans would result in elves becoming seriously endangered and possibly going extinct; swallowed up by the human population that vastly outnumbers and outranks them.

With all of that said, I'm not against elf/human relationships on principle, and I'm happy for some couples that are genuinely happy together, but understand the elders worrying about the social ramifications if it started happening on a large scale. I kind of cheat with the Elven Warden in that I write her off as being sterile thanks to the taint, so she couldn't have children if she got together with an elven man anyway, so there's no technical harm in being with a human man. (Same with Fenris and his possible sterility from the lyrium.)

So yeah. Whenever I hear about a an elf/human getting together in DA, it makes me happy.

I agree about the mages being equally discriminated against as elves, and I agree that it's nice for mages and nonmages to cross social boundaries by getting together. Especially since it's pretty clearn the taboo was created essentially for the purpose of containing the magic gene with the hope that they'll eventually go extinct. :/ (Mages are discouraged from having children in the Circles, after all.)

But again, to be fair to the elves, mage/nonmage unions don't always result in children of a separate race for one partner or even all children being uniformly magic. Ideally, I would love for elves and humans to get together more often too, but times being what they are for elves... I can understand their trepidation. (At least on the elven end. Humans having a problem can stfu as far as I'm concerned.)

Let's see... Fae I am not sure which one of these mods makes this cut scene happen. But here is what I have that seems relevant:

As I'm looking through this long list, only one seems likely. Improved Romance Scene for Alistair. It has to be that because everything else is either sex scenes, hair or armour mods ;) I'm too honest some times ;)

This is what it says in the read me for that mod: City Elf Origin- This scene will only be available if you did not take the bribe in the origin. After you free your father from the slavers, head to your old home. He will give you your mother's dagger. Talk to him again and if the criteria is met you will see the CE scene.

I remember he offers to feed the warden and if you accept the cutscene happens. Of course, Alistair has to be with you ;) He also makes that comment about the warden being married. Is that vanilla or this mod?

Did ya know that Ali's mommy was a Grey Warden elf mage? Awwwww now I think he should fall in love with an elf ;)

*spanks* April. Alright you must buy HL2 or I will disown you. ;) It's not your typical FPS by any means. There's a rocket launcher and crowbar and a robotic dog.... 'nough said ;)

Aldien, nooo, not the Alistair's mother topic! You've breached the darkness! Said the words that must not be said! Drama aside (that was my idea of being funny), people can get really heated about that subject sometimes.

April, young lady, you go and play HL2! Right now!

Also, guys, guess what? It's a national holiday here, so I get a whole week off uni! Woohoo, finally gonna get that Kas playthrough started! You better be ready for extra FlippyFloppiness next week.
If it's not obvious, I'm just in a very chipper and chatty mood. I thought this lime drink was non-alchoholic?..

Yep, that would be the one! <3

Aww now I want to download that and use it. (And the toolset so I can actually fix Adaia's dagger for once.) It's actually pretty sad. A few months ago I finally uploaded my canon Warden into Awakening, and then accidentally deleted her entire DA game (thought it was the one next to it). Since I'd played four times at that point, I thought "No way in hell I'm doing another 40hr playthrough with that character."

I feel really bad to Ren and Am since they've been so helpful, but I've been very hesitent to download any and all mods because a) I've been terrified of damaging my laptop, B) I've been terrified of damaging the game, c) I've played DA:O so many times I'm literally getting sick of looking at it, never mind playing it, d) my laptop is temporarily out of commission anyway. :/

At any rate, once my laptop is back, I seriously now want to try these mods. Hair mod, Improved Romance for Alistair, Toolset so I can fix Adaia's dagger, and... oh, that one mod that lets you skip the Sloth Demon dream sequence but still net all the xp and goodies. One of the reasons I don't do new playthroughs is because of that terrible maze. ):

I'm still terrified of my laptop and game being ruined, but now I'm seriously considering overcoming it for that scene. (And starting an entire 35-40hr playthrough with the same character for it... Someone please talk me down.)

I remember he offers to feed the warden and if you accept the cutscene happens. Of course, Alistair has to be with you ;) He also makes that comment about the warden being married. Is that vanilla or this mod?

Dad offering to feed the Warden is part of the game, (I really love it; it's such a fussy, fatherly thing to say! xD) but I don't think accepting was ever an option. Dad mentioning you're married? Definitely the mod. I think the Warden and Alistair only officially marry if you're both nobles who become king and queen.

Fae, if you are at all worried about any small mods, please feel free to ask me. I have almost 200 of them and will keep adding more. I can help you deal with conflict or inform you when mods don't conflict with each other and when they do.
Or I can recommend mods, if you want one, but don't know where to look for it (there are loads of them). For example, there are two great mods that can help you with Adaia's Dagger (Improved Atmosphere and Improved Origin Items)

Did ya know that Ali's mommy was a Grey Warden elf mage? Awwwww now I think he should fall in love with an elf ;)

Personally, I always suspected Alistair's mother was an elf from the very beginning. :) (Yeah, yeah, think what you want about my elf-centered mind, but my first character grew up with Vaughan Kendells. A human is not the first race to come to mind when someone mentions a high-born human man taking advantage of a serving girl.) I mean, really. The way Arl Eamon raised him brought to mind how humans treat their elven dependents... his sister living by the alienage (of all places)...

However, as MrFlipFlops said, whether his official canon mother is or not is kind of a hot issue. So I shall speak no more of it except to say that, if it is true, it's just one more reason to support Alistair with an elf! ^^  (Mage elves might feel pleased knowing they've magic just like her, and city elves might be pleased that they have a similar background - at least as far as having luck among human nobles are concerned - to make it all the more fitting.)

EDIT: Thank you MrFlipFlops, I might ask for your help in the future. I don't know anything about anything mechanical and don't want to mess anything up. I was always bummed that Adaia's PC dagger was always stuck on a low tier, but I was always too afraid to try to fix it. The only thing I could find online to help was very long and complicated tech instructions that involved downloading the toolset, weaving through millions of game files to track down one itty bitty little line that you had to tweak just right lest you ruin a ton of other stuff in your game. *frightened whimper*

Thanks Aldy and Fae - and yes, I am playing DA2 as a mage. Usually I play a rogue, but figured I'd do mage. I still can't get over the hideous mage gear. Blegh. I think it gets better as you level up, though right? Please tell me it does... Lol, but that's off topic.
