What??? Wait.... and I am being serious here. You guys don't get the cutscene where the city elf gives his/her seat to Alistair while the father and Soris (I probably spelled that wrong) are talking? The father laughs, Alistair is listening to his every word and the warden has her hand possessively on Alistair's neck???? Did I inadvertently have a mod that did that? I thought it was part of the vanilla game o_O
O.O
No, I've never seen or heard of this scene before in my life! If it was, I'd be all over like stink on dogs! Shianni invites you to stay over for dinner and offers to grab some wine when you accept, then Father tells you need to eat something because you're too skinny, and yet trying and trying to get some sort of cutscene to trigger just never worked! If there's a mod for this, I'll download it myself! I really want this scene!!
What mods are you using? Tell all!

Anyway. Fae, I don't hate elf/elf pairings. I understand their appeal, the whole "birds of a feather flock together" kind of thing. In real life, I would go for that. But DA isn't real life, and in fiction, I prefer opposites attract for story reasons. But, the biggest reason for my love of Zevran/F!Cousland, F!Amell/Alistair, F!Surana/Alistair, Hawke/Fenris stems from my desire to see a social change in Thedas. If you notice, one of every one of my pairings is either an elf or a mage with a normal human. Ideally, they are forbidden form one another. From a fictional storytelling point of view, I prefer them.
Ideally, I can see where you're coming from, and social change is a noble goal. Unfortunately, I can see why it's taboo among elves to be with humans, since all offspring and descendents from all elven/human unions are human. Even with the taboo in effect, many elves are leaving their clans and alienages, getting together with humans, having human babies, and the elven population and culture is dwindling despite their best efforts. I fear that social change that involved elves being able to freely intermarry with humans would result in elves becoming seriously endangered and possibly going extinct; swallowed up by the human population that vastly outnumbers and outranks them.
With all of that said, I'm not against elf/human relationships on principle, and I'm happy for some couples that are genuinely happy together, but understand the elders worrying about the social ramifications if it started happening on a large scale. I kind of cheat with the Elven Warden in that I write her off as being sterile thanks to the taint, so she couldn't have children if she got together with an elven man anyway, so there's no technical harm in being with a human man. (Same with Fenris and his possible sterility from the lyrium.)

And honestly, I don't lump mages in the same category as humans. It's not because I think they 'aren't people (and I don't think that at all. I'm very pro-mage). It's because in the game, they aren't considered people, and are just as discriminated against as elves.
So yeah. Whenever I hear about a an elf/human getting together in DA, it makes me happy.
I agree about the mages being equally discriminated against as elves, and I agree that it's nice for mages and nonmages to cross social boundaries by getting together. Especially since it's pretty clearn the taboo was created essentially for the purpose of containing the magic gene with the hope that they'll eventually go extinct. :/ (Mages are discouraged from having children in the Circles, after all.)
But again, to be fair to the elves, mage/nonmage unions don't always result in children of a separate race for one partner or even all children being uniformly magic. Ideally, I would love for elves and humans to get together more often too, but times being what they are for elves... I can understand their trepidation. (At least on the elven end. Humans having a problem can stfu as far as I'm concerned.)
