Fenris strikes me as a very strong introvert who needs, like, five days to himself for every one he spends with other people. It would be difficult for him to be surrounded by others with no mansion to retreat in (the way he does in DA2) and would probably be more irritable as a result. :/
I just had a thought though. Do you think Hawke and co. tend to indulge Fenris' extreme introversion? I know the game FORCES you do to this, but I think most of us agree (maybe??) that if we had been given the chance, a persistant Hawke COULD eventually convince him to come and live with him/her. OR if that were too much for Fenris, Hawke could propose selling the "mansion" and buying a more modest home for the two to live in (and setting up Bodahn and Sandal, too, of course).
We do have that discussion between Fenris, Varric, and Aveline, so it shows his friends are concerned about him. It makes sense if Hawke is only Fenris' friend, but if they are lovers... I mean, once they make up, (and Fenris is seems VERY SINCERE when he admits he wants to be with Hawke and Hawke only after "Alone"), I think a caring and persistant Hawke could/should convince him to leave his house.
I mean even when he plays cards, Donnic comes to his place.
