Damn....it's quiet in here again.

Okay, so here is another question for you guys and gals: Have you ever Friendmanced Fenris with a Hawke who chooses the "aggro" lines (and yes, this can be done....), or Rivalmanced Fenris with a straight up "diplo"?

Reveal all! :D

No to the first, a half yes to the second. Meaning I rivalmanced Fenris without resorting to the aggressive dialogue options. Hawke was mostly sarcastic, and at the appropriate times diplomatic. Can work very well, especially because Fenris give you rivalry points if you show pity for his situation when you first talk to him in his mansion. The nasty response that he complains too much yields more rivalry, and indeed with this "nice" approach it takes a lot longer to max rivalry than when you're aggressive, but I still like the dynamic of this type of rivalmance.

I think it's fairly normal for Hawke to feel empathy for Fenris and even feel sorry for him. Fenris considers this as offensive, but that doesn't make it a bad thing that Hawke feels this way.

Because it's quiet I'm gonna spam Fenris goodness.

So I'm sitting on the floor wit h my computer. This is *not* a position I recommend. However, it did give me time to start a new playthrough. Yep, I made a M!Hawke, meet Drogan Hawke.. I like him, and I'm mixing his dialogue up a bit, as recommended. :)

@Ren - You playing snarky and "poking the bear"......I can definitely see you doing that. :D

@mnomaha - Very handsome Hawke! Pretty eyes.....and I see you gave him Zev's tat....woot!

I almost gave my newest Hawke that same tattoo, but then I decided to make a "strawberry blonde" Hawke (I always make darker haired Hawkes...wanted to do something a bit different.) which meant I really wanted to give him the freckles. Oh hell....just a sec and I will post a pic.

**EDIT**

Here is Abel Hawke....

You're going to hate me maybe (like that is anything new on this thread) but I think Abel Hawke looks like a mix between Anders, Gamlen and Feynriel.  I actually think Gamlen is funny. He pisses me off and makes me laugh. One of the most realistic characters in the whole game.

As for dialogue. I'm boring and always play characters that are friendmancing. Though I'm tempted to do a Merrill rivalmance next.

@Aldy - HAHAHA! I don't hate you....actually I DO sort of see the Ander's thing (and unfortunately, this is NOT the best close up (his freckles and mole do set him apart). Funny thing is, I am trying something completely different with Abel; he is going to romance Anders first, then break it off, and go for Fenris....yes, it will be tricky, but I have a plan (and a story behind it, of course. :D )

You have misunderstood my question. I don't mean whether or not you Friendmance or Rivalmance. What I mean is, if you Friendmance him (successfully romance, max his Friendship meter) have you ever still USED the Aggro options in dialogue even though you ARE Friendmancing him. Opposite is also asked....Rivalmance with Diplo Hawke. Personally, just as @mnomaha is trying out this time, I prefer to mix things up a bit, but even Castor Hawke often chose the Aggro/Direct options with Fenris (only threw in a handful of Diplo with a smidgen of Snarky, when it seemed appropriate). And Castor DID in fact Friendmance Fenris.

Anyway, what say you?? Tried a different approach to the Friendmance (or Rivalmance...what ever turns your fancy. :D ).

I did that with Anders. My Hawke was a complete cow and told him he wasn't great in bed. He was too busy thinking about his manifesto rather than what he was doing.

Honestly, how you people get your Hawke to look different from the original is beyond me. There's not enough sliders yet you make great looking Hawkes.

Yes, at certain times I use aggro with Fenris especially when Hawke finds out he hasn't bothered to learn to read and he acts like he shouldn't try. But it is always interspersed depending on what Fenris is doing. Some times he does need a good spanking.

I'm about to rivalmance Merrill for the first time. She still hasn't grown on me. :/

@aldy - Good god woman! You are glutton for punishment (but then, I read your fanfic...and I think you just might like a bit of "punishment"..HA!). I'll give you serious points for stick-to-itness, when it comes to Merrill. Still haven't gotten Derp Hawke outta the gate yet, to even try and romance her. Just not motivated...LOL.

As for the sliders...I don't know. I think (especially with a few added mods) that there are enough sliders to play around with. Besides, unless I use the toolset in DAO (which I never have cuz I'm scared I'll break something. HA!), I can only seem to make one or two decent looking male wardens. :P But DA2 is much friendlier to the male form...IMO. ;)

So give us a pic of your new Merrill rivalmancer!! DO IT!!! :D

I've still been drawing Fenris near constantly. Unfortunately some of it is just straight up DIRTY. So instead have some Fenris reading!

I'm still twiddling my thumbs while I wait for PDH. LOL! Depends on who is doing the punishing ;)

Have to say that I think Merrill's romance is awful and very uneven. Even though I am not a fan of Anders there were times when it felt like he cared about Hawke or at least he said the right things occasionally That would be between the bouts of crazy. But I liked his line the best when Hawke's mother dies.

LOL I understand your lack of motivation all too well. Merrill... gah! My Hawke feels very unappreciated in that romance. I don't know if it is that she is below average intelligence and that is why she makes inane remarks and bad decisions or if she is spoiled. It's one of the impressions I think Fenris has of Merrill. To him, the woman had everything he always wanted sans magic. She gives it up to mess with a mirror that has killed people. The whole premise of the mirror is flawed. It was a communication device, so if there is not another mirror to communicate with or no one using it then...? And it's tainted! I know Morrigan goes through it but we don't know what she did to accomplish it or maybe she modified it. Merrill is no Morrigan. So it's kind of pointless and it feels so at the end. My Hawke then turned and looked longingly at Isabela and wondered why he had made such a stupid mistake. Plus Isabela has better breasts and she doesn't change into some weirdo clothing after getting it on with Hawke. I don't get Merrill's change in clothing. Why? What's it mean?

FemHawke... bah! No matter what I do or download she always looks the same. There's always a resemblance to the original. I agree. Male form rules in DA2. Making sexy wardens is easier IMO. My Hawes are doomed to always be... Hawkey.

Same Hawke. I love him and refuse to change his looks. So sad o_O

Make sure you post your picture Oki! Aimo is a great artist. I'm very jealous :D

I hate Merril's romance like a thousand suns. I can't even be her friend unless it's rivalship. It's like, gurl, look at your life. Look at your choices!

Lol! I will! XD she's more attention grabbing than me anyway. And I love my Fem!Hawke, I find her very attractive. I dunno, just not a fan of Male Hawke's voice so it throws me out of the game.

Nooooo! That's sacriledge. Take it back! ;) It's eargasmic. Well... to be perfectly honest I wasn't that keen on it in the beginning. It wasn't until I figured out it was Malcolm Hawke's voice then I was hooked.

Perv? Moi? *throws down glove* How dare you madam. We shall fight to the death.

Have you ever done the Merrill romance Coldy?

Merrill look pretty for Hawke? Did you see her outfit? It has this weird opalescent effect when she walks in the sun. She looks like a clam, an alien clam with big green eyeballs. Maybe Hawke likes the taste and smell of mussels. ;)

His blue ghost is sexy. It's the voice, all dark and masculine mmmmmmmm. Seriously, I fancied Malcolm before Hawke and then when I saw the Destiny trailer I decided that is what Malcolm looks like not Hawke. Yes, go wrap your head around that one.
Malcolm is in my story having possessed sex with one of my main characters. So asking me if the blue light in a guy turns me on, I'd say there is a pretty good chance it would. Fenris has that going on too don't forget. Feel sorry for Coldy. She read it and yet she calls me the perv!!!!!! ;)

Did you do the Merrill romance Ren? Is the rivalry worth it?

When you play the game do you put yourself in Hawke's shoes? What's the correct terminology? Project yourself on to Hawke? As in you are Hawke? I don't do that, which I think negates the point of an RPG, but that's how my brain floats. So I don't get the weird dad thoughts thankfully! Shut up Ren. ;)

I was mesmerized by your Hawke. You managed to make her not look Hawkey like most of the other FemHawkes I see. So you are a throw-you-against-the-wall Fen fan? I prefer the other kiss but I'm a softy unlike Ren who likes to be mean and pick on poor innocent people. Wall slamming is her favorite pasttime. Thank you for sharing your video. It was a nice take on their relationship and brought back some good moments. Haven't played the romance in ages. :/

Your imagination sure is effective at bending things to suit its needs.

Fenris glows?:o Really? I had never noticed. LOL, that's why I said it. I'm spotting a pattern here in your taste for men.

Did you do the Merrill romance Ren? Is the rivalry worth it?

Nope, have never romanced Merrill. Only done friend Isabela, friend and rival Fenris, and a failed attempt at friend Sebastian, haha. I played an archer myself in the last scenario, so I didn't bring Seb with me often enough to get his approval max. So that Hawke ended up forever alone.:( Oh, and I did a half friend romance with Anders, but... brrrrr.

I bet that was one of the arguments the people who wanted to romance Bethany used as well... :P

You're fantasizing about daddy Hawke having possessed sex. Don't claim innocence, lady.

Wall slamming is her favorite pasttime.

LMAO. Unfortunately I lack a slamming partner (wait... that doesn't sound right xD) at the moment, so not much excitement going on in my pasttime.

I don't! Not after the horror that was my realization I did it TOO much in DA:O. To put it mildly the PC in DAO and I share everything in looks, so I had to make her DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT in personality or feel weird. And no, it's more like I view Dehlian (my hawke) as this beautiful independent girl who loved her father more than anyone else? Like I always felt Hawke was a little distant when Bethany and Carver died, impending doom or not, so I justify it differently every route, and with my f!Hawke it is because she has grown especially detached since her father died.

I just looked up the Rivalmance kiss and I'm like THE CONFLICTION! I do deeply enjoy the, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO THINK OF LITTLE ELSE oh hey Fenris. But I just- I can't not be nice to him! I need. . . his friendship! And. . . love! And. . . trust! Not to mention I like GET REALLY INTO CHARACTER DESIGNS so I'm like, oh no she's this way forever. Like I want the achievement for the Templar route but I cant bring myself to change Hawke's character and make her switch against her only surviving family member.

Thanks for the comment on her looks! Actually it's funny, I find that morphing Hawke's chargen makes for. . . .less Hawke looking Fem!C's. Isn't that ironic? But I just went for darker looks all around, and more elegant hair, and I think one of the trademarks of Hawke is she really does just seem like a genderbent Garrett.

I really like the other kiss but again, I really like the softer romance. I don't think this Hawke, or her player sobs, has the heart to say FENRIS YOU SUCK. I should start another playthrough to try it but yeah. I also feel like in that playthrough he RESPECTS Hawke more thus frustration, restraint, and fear. In this one he's like, WELP THERE WENT MY CAUTION let me love you

Don't get me started on Fenris in any form, I swear. I HAVE THEORIES I WRITE ESSAYS FOR FUN

and renjility:
Wall slamming = A+, and thank you again! I love her so it's like, yesss now she can join all the pretty M!Hawke's in the pretty people club

Just a little bit of fun information; that line and kiss can be done with EITHER Friendmance or Rivalmance.Image IPB It is not exclusive to a Rivalmance.  If you are interesting on how to make it happen, just follow the instructions under the "spoiler" warningImage IPB.  Or you can "experiment" yourself, and see if you can get it to trigger.  Until you learn the trigger, it can be a little tricky, but it is actually my preferred first kiss with Fenris.

***SPOILERS***

After you are finished with Hadrianna during the Bitter Pill quest, head to your Estate.  When you speak to Fenris, feel free to choose as you please (flirt line, or other....so long as it's not the breakup line. LOL). Then when he acts as though he is going to leave, DON'T choose the "Don't go" dialogue option.  Instead, use the dialogue option about following up on the information Hadrianna gave him regarding his sister.  He will say a little something, and leave.  Don't be alarmed.  Leave the Estate, then come back.  To make the transition a bit more natural role playing wise, I usually go to the Hanged Man and either click on Issy or Varric, then I leave, choosing to return to my Estate at night, and viola!!  Fenris has come back. Image IPB You get that line you quoted and the "other" kiss.  If you are worried about messing it up (which I doubt you will), just make sure to keep a save right after Fenris kills Hadrianna in the Slaver's Den.  This will ensure that you can do any of the Fenris dialogue at the Estate over if needed.  Have fun!!Image IPB

Forgive me if I'm late to the discussion. I admit I have just skimmed this thread for parts which may be relevant to my post and couldn't find anything. Also this is my first post, and I appologize for its lengthiness. I've highlighted main points below.

But has anyone ever considered Fenris' story to be an allegory for being a woman in a mostly man-controlled world?

There are points in his story were he speaks about himself and his experiences in the same way that any opressed person, be it by race or gender, may speak of themselves.

Given Fenris also exhibits agressive behavior at his former master, and is very belligerent at times, but he still seems to be controlled by his situation until the conclusion of his story. Even then it seems he is not sure that he will ever truly be free of his past.
He questionis himself constantly, choosing inaction over action as a result of his fear of failure/submission.

To the way in which Fenris tries to make Hawke understand what it is like being a slave, at which Hawke can only guess - i.e. Hawke can never understand what it is like to be a slave because he has always been free - in the same way a man can never truly understand what it is like to be a woman, this was probably the strongest message to me personally, to realize that I will likewise never truly understand, but at least I will have an idea of what social chains women are bound by compared to the freedoms that are offered to men.

You win with that line, it's so true. In fact, here, have an AMV:

Yeah I made another one sssh

I have to disagree that Fenris'. . . experience is in any way indicative of a woman in a man's world. Fenris is a man no matter the gender of Hawke, and his tales are as well. He tells them the same to a man as he would a woman- and any woman can understand the plights of being a woman. However, no woman can understand the concept of SLAVERY unless she has been a slave. Fenris is a slave, that's why it rings true. To be a slave you are less than human, in many ways similar to the way a woman in our world might be considered 'less' than a man, but that is the only similarity.

Wow. I love this. I am used to thinking of Fenris as representing the oppressed Other, someone we / the player / Hawke / the privileged can never fully understand and can only sympathize (not empathize) with.

Fenris could represent Woman existing under Patriarchy, definitely. (I agree).

But like you said, he could represent any oppressed Other, I think. Any social minority.

What position does that put us, the player, in? Do we always see Fenris as Other? No one here has been a slave. But everyone has been disenfranchised at some point in his/her life, surely. But the game does put Fenris in that particular position, and the player is opposite him....
