The game itself runs well on my PC, and hasn't been too buggy (though I'm not really enjoying DW Rogue, which has always been my go-to).  The companions I've picked up so far are fine, but the female voice is so bland (and totally wrong for a Qunari).  I just can't connect well enough with Inquisitor to really care what happens.  I am going restart, and maybe switch everything up a bit.  Maybe a new world state, too.

Because this game is redic pretty, and I was so excited for it.  It's just been very average in some ways, and this 'ending' just made me very blah about it.  FWIW, the DA2 characters were my favourites, almost right from the beginning.  That's it's such a sad end for all of them, bugged me a bit.

 

 

 I get what you mean (I liked the fic btw), but I went somewhere different ... Hawke just leaves, without saying where or why (so that Fenris can't follow).  It's selfish, because it becomes all about what Hawke can't deal with (not just loosing him, but watching him die in Hawke's place).  It removes Fenris' own choice from the whole thing and reduces what he says during act 3/gallows, and it's this part I see Fenris taking issue with.  What I think of as 'my Hawke' wouldn't have done this, not without being a lot more broken and guilt-trippy.  Which I could do (since wildly inappropriate sarcastic Hawke is on the sad clown slide a bit), and am getting totally tempted to fic anyway.

 

I just wish we'd either gotten something a little meatier, or if it had to be so short, then maybe not quite so bleak (since Isabella is the only who gets a mention of reconciliation, they all just kind of end with foreveralone!Hawke).  Unless we get crazy lucky with DLC, it's disappointing that after everything it ends with Hawke leaving Fenris behind.

If it helps, I just got a conversation between Varric and Cassandra while I was exploring, which Cassandra asks why he didn't follow Hawke to Weisshaupt.

Varric says they have work to do, but when she asks about Fenris he says "Oh, he'll go. Once he gets my letter and finishes brooding, he'll go."

This, and the poster below you, confirms that Fenris was intended to follow Hawke and that Varric believes that he will.  If it's the "whether Hawke likes it or not" bit that puts you off, that speaks more on the LI than Hawke IMO...basically saying hell or high water wouldn't be able to stop the LI from reuniting with Hawke once they know where he/she is.  And as we already know, Hawke was the one to tell Varric to write the letters - if they wanted to keep their LI away they wouldn't have asked this.

This is leading up to some kind of DLC thing and we haven't seen the last of any of the characters. Weisshaupt going silent was very much a cliffhanger, not a sendoff. Even if you leave Hawke in the Fade, their "death" is ambiguous enough that I wouldn't be surprised to see them pop out again in a year covered in demon blood and smugly asking what they missed. I really don't think they'd give Hawke a "likely" off-screen death if they were seriously-for-reals planning on killing them for good... it's just for the sake of drama with the other characters (hugging Varric ;_; ) and making their eventual return more impactful. "I thought you had sacrificed yourself for the greater good!" is a better note to reunite with Hawke on than "so you've been dicking around in the wilderness for 3 years, huh?"

 

And the dialogue does make it pretty clear that Hawke still loves Fenris and only stays away from him to keep him safe...well, as safe as Fenris can be, anyway. The Aspect of Nightmare also explicitly says that Hawke's biggest fear is losing even more loved ones. That's not Bioware personally victimizing us, it's them handling a character who feels personally responsible for the majority of bull going on and has a track record of family members dropping like flies. You can argue that that's not exactly a healthy relationship, and it isn't, but Hawke has never been the poster child of good ideas either.

 

also concerning Fenris, in that big online QnA Mark said we'd probably see Gideon Emery in the game, yet to my knowledge he hasn't shown up in Inquisition proper as even a bit voice. That sounds an awful lot to me like "there is probably going to be a DLC with the Kirkwall Crew, or at least the LI, in it" I want to believe

....I hate to disappoint you, but Gideon Emery is Samson in DA:I. And I've heard their only plans for DLC are multiplayer maps, unfortunately. It's really not looking good for the Kirkwall crew. I have a nagging suspicion that they're closing the book on them.

I can understand where you find it frustrating that all of a sudden Hawke seems to, outside our control, place Fenris in this safety bubble...but as I said before - I know this is just a game mechanic reason & don't take it too personally towards my Hawke's intentions.  They needed the LIs to not be with Hawke and came up with a super vanilla excuse that succeeds in 1) not killing off the characters, 2) not breaking them up, and 3) leaving it open for player headcanoning to not invalidate game decisions.  They could have gone the DAO: Awakenings route and said "Oh, he's not here because he's off on his own mission" thing, but then it would open up the same conversation insofar as "well, then why didn't my Hawke go with him?".  /shrug  I find it blandly non-offensive.

  That's mostly where my issue lies ... it came across as lazy writing that stomps all over DA2 dialogue/character growth.

 

I wouldn't say I'm overly depressed about it (tho no one has ever accused me of being subtle ),  but since I'm not exactly ecstatic about the rest of the game either ...  Call it a sad cherry on a disappointment sundae.

The Hawke in question was my mage LadyHawke that romanced Fenris and I will admit that I felt pretty sad when I heard her last words

 

"Sorry, Fenris,"

 

So after getting back to Skyhold I talk to Varric and he ends with mentioning having to write letters, the first being Fenris. Which is where my mind started imagining the scene where Fenris recieves the news that the love of his life is dead. I ended up writing a small one-shot only 399 words long, but I wanted to share it. Even if this group does not seem to be very active any longer.

 

 

Fenris opens the letter Varric sent to him, he doesn't know what it says, but somehow he can feel that it only bears ill news. He takes his time reading each word, Hawke taught him to read, but he still struggles with a few of them.

 

He only gets through half of the first line before it becomes nearly too hard to continue, not because of the difficulty of the words, but their content. He forces himself to read on, despite his fear growing with each letter.

 

And then he reads the words he dreaded the most. Words he never thought he would hear, never wanted to see. Tears fall down on the letter, mixing with the dried ink on the page. The letter falls gently to the ground as his grips loosen on it as he feel his body weaken and as the silence of the room breaks to his sobs. He stumbles towards the wall in search of something, anything, to stop him from collapsing. He leans in towards the wall.

 

But sorrow quickly turns to rage and the dimly lit room is now lightened in a furious blue. He spins around and lashes out, punching into the wooden pillar behind him, nearly breaking it, as he screams out in anger.

 

What does magic touch that it does not spoil? What does it not destroy? Once he spoke such words until she showed him otherwise, once he thought all mages vipers until she taught him differently.

 

But she was wrong.

 

Magic spoiled all that it touched; it destroyed its kindest wielders and empowered its cruelest masters. Those few who would use it for good were as the distant stars in the night, surrounded by utter darkness.

 

He tries to regain his composure, but it won’t come. He sees his knuckles bleeding, but he does not care. All he feels is fury.

 

There is only one thing to do now.

 

His eyes turn toward his sword resting on the bed; he walks toward it, each step hammering into the floor. He grabs the sheathed weapon. He will not rest any longer; he will not stop until each Tevinter mage that lives lies dead at his feet.

 

He will not wait; he will seek out death, theirs and his.

 

He leaves through the door, but does not close it behind him, for he knows that he will not return.

On the topic of Fenris(Or any love interest really) not being with Hawke. Here's my thing.

 

I don't see why you couldn't say that Hawke and Varric are still completely lying about everything for the sake of protecting people. We have the conflicting details that Varric said Hawke and Fenris disappeared together at the end of DA2. Now Hawke is saying they left Kirkwall alone. It could be a writers oversight, very likely a writer changed things suddenly for Inquisition plot drama, or you could play with some fan fiction ideas and say someone is lying to hide things somewhere.

 

What ever it is exactly can be up to you.

I'm stupidly hoping there'll be some sort of DA2 DLC for Inquisition or something.  Slim to none, I know.  Still, a girl a dream, right?

I was so dissapointed.

 

I felt so connectet, almost obsessed with my Hawke (same with Shepard for that matter...) I could never play female Hawke for that reason (same with I could never play male Shepard) But the Inquisitioner felt like had less personality. I loved Dorian, but even he could not make me connect properly with my Inqusitioner. Hence I was not as personally invested in Inquisition and the replay value dropped. I was SO excited when we met Hawke, and I was almost praying (although I am an atheis) to God for Fenris to be with him. But nooo... *rambling*

 

They even had the voice actor there. It shouldn´t be to much work to act som lines and animate Fenris to be with Hawke? Although I understand if Fenris is there, the other LI for Hawke also needs to be there.

 

I am hoping for a DLC.
