Fanon is slang for something that's a commonly accept idea by fans but isn't actually expressed in the source material (it's a mash up of fan + canon).  Like the pain thing - it's not really clear from the game whether he does or not, or how much magic has an effect on it.  There's nothing stopping people from liking it, or writing about it.  It's just about acknowledging where it's come from.

He's dry a lot of the time, which I think people miss.  He's adorable in MotA, though.  And I'll never not lol over this line, or his reaction to Isabela's butt joke.

Exactly so :)

And yes, I think people either miss his very dry sense of humor and maybe they don't bring Varric or Isabela much when they have Fenris with them...especially if they are an Anders and/or Merrill fan and bring them along with Fenris more. YES I love his MotA lines, and the "poopy" line is absolutely unequivocally my favorite line of his, followed closely by his voicing his distaste for fish lol

He have good sense of humour, and not forever grumpy/morose/sad.

Yes! He's just got that deadpan delivery and a dry sense of humor, but he does have one and he is probably funnier than several other companions.

All your examples were perfect btw :)

Thank you, this is some of my favorites. That is, why i like him.  And because he is very hot... (and he evaluate Hawke's sometimes coarse humor...)  ;)

Hehehe yes, his attractiveness is a big plus hehehe :) Personality is what brought him up to obsession, favorite character level...but being pretty is a cherry on top for sure xD

The whole pain thing is rather irksome and I think there is conflicting information in the game itself and from David Gaider.

Fenris's conversation with Bethany, and his official in-game codex entry, seem to suggest that he is in pain all the time, yet we have DG's remark that it's primarily touch-aversion.

Additionally, this is another instance where the difference between the male and female dialogue is annoying. Why replace the gender-specific line with something that any partner would ask? This has the further result of minimizing the markings for the male Hawke, and emphasizing them for the female.

Regarding that line in general though, and his response, "It's not that," -- I've gotten the impression that he was expecting some unpleasantness, but sexual pleasure, the emotions that come along with being intimate with someone you care about, and also the shock of the memories overrode any sort of pain or discomfort he might have felt along those lines. And you know... orgasm is a good temporary pain reliever + post-sex endorphins ;).

Speaking of fanon, one idea that I like is him feeling a difference in his markings between a mage versus a non-mage Hawke. I think that would have been quite interesting to have portrayed in the game, particularly with the whole mage/templar issues that are throughout the story.

Oof yeah the difference between the male/female dialogue is so bizarre and arbitrary sometimes...especially because male Hawke's line is odd in of itself...why would Fenris mind that he's a guy at that point? It makes much more sense to be concerned about the markings because that's always going to be a thing regardless.

And yeah I agree about his response as well...I mean that whole bit can start off with him being pretty adverse to being grabbed, but then getting into it...shows that his emotions etc. override the aversion to touch at least somewhat.

In general I wish the game paid more attention to if your Hawke is a mage...I thought it would be tougher to romance him as a mage, but it's really not...at least it's not any tougher than romancing him as a mage supporter of any class. It would have been nice if they included something like you suggested, at least.

(Friendship romance)
"H: I might be able to help with your problems... or give you a few more
F: Only a few?
H: It depends if I really work at it.
F: Tempting"
(Rivalry romance)
"H: I might be able to help with your problems... or give you a few more
F: More problems, than you normally do, I assume"

"H: I thought Danarius considered you valuable.
F: He wasn't given a choice. The look on his face as the ship pulled out was priceless!"

"It's good, I can still take pleasure in the small things." (After he threw a glass to the wall)

Some banters with him (I deliberately skipped Isabela, we've already mentioned):

Sebastian: I saw you at the Chantry last week, Fenris, but I haven't seen you back since.
Fenris: I was only delivering something: you needn't concern yourself.
Sebastian: But you were praying. Or was that part of the delivery?
Fenris: I was... trying to blend in.
Sebastian: (Laughs) Oh, yes! You wouldn't want to ruin your reputation.
Fenris: Don't you have a city to re-conquer?

Varric: So what do you do in that gigantic house all day?
Fenris: Dance, of course.
Varric: Really?
Fenris: I run from room to room, choreographing routines.
Varric: You're actually joking. Alert the Chantry! They need to put this on the calendar!
Fenris: And you thought I was always serious.

Fenris: How is it you get into these situations so often?
Hawke: What do you mean?
Fenris: Hmm. Attacked by dwarves, approached by strangers, stumbling upon ancient riddles... madness.
Hawke: It's a gift.
Fenris: (laughs) Well I think you should return it.

Fenris: Thank you for asking me to come along again, Hawke.
Hawke: Why wouldn't I? More the merrier.
Fenris: I just... am pleased. To see you. That's all.

Fenris: Why are the Wardens always up to mischief?
Carver: (laughs) I know right? You'd think they have nothing better to do.
Hawke: It's in their blood I suppose.
Fenris: They've no Blight to combat now. This keeps them busy?

Fenris: Now this is unexpected. I thought all dwarves did was drink.
Varric: Hey now!
Fenris: And lie. Pardon the omission.
Varric: That's better.
(If Varric is not in the party)
Fenris: Now this is unexpected. I thought all dwarves did was drink.
Hawke: And Varric not here to respond, tsk tsk tsk.
Fenris: He's probably drinking.

Anders: Maybe you should join the Qun, Fenris.
Fenris: We could go together. I'd be happy to sew your mouth shut.

(There's more, this is only picked up suddenly.)

He's rather annoyed in half of those. Sarcasm doesn't always involve humor. Sometimes it's another way to tell someone to **** off.

Yes, probably in most cases. But what's the problem whit sarcasm? This is a good, funny and civilezed way for tell someone f*ck off. I love this way.

I still think, Fenris have good sense of humour. Perhaps rather bitter humour, but it's no wonder.

That last one, in particular, is a giant f*** you (and it's a pretty well deserved one).  He's got a definite sarcastic streak.  I just don't much like fandom's tendency as portraying as hating every dumb joke that gets made, when he responds to Varric, Isabela and purple!Hawke pretty well.

I think Fenris is pretty funny. A lot of his comments get overridden by other party members I think? But he has some humorous lines...I think his delivery is just much more dry or cynical. And that can sound intimidating.

Fenris definitely has a sense of humor though and can lightly joke around with companions. It's only mostly limited to Varric and Isabela. His joke about Varric's beard falling onto his chest is still my favorite.

His sarcastic commentary can be fun too. When starting Anders' Act 2 quest: "With any luck, we'll just be mistaken for thieves and not conspirators."

Or this one (I think I still need to actually get this one in my game. Probably need to kick other companions out of the party for it to trigger):

Fenris: So, on the word of a drunk, we intend to accuse the grand cleric of funding zealots?

Hawke: It's a careful chat about missing Qunari.

Fenris: Freedom was interesting while it lasted.

^ Hah! Yes... His humor is very dry, bit it's certainly there. It's all in the voice acting, really. Gideon Emery did such a masterful job of pulling that off.

That one's my favorite. The first time I heard it I actually barked out a laugh, I was so surprised!

Also love it when he's schmoozing up to Aveline. He sounds so chipper, lol.

Fenris: It feels good to be captain of the guard, yes?
Aveline: No, I will not change the patrols around your mansion again. There's already been too many questions.
Fenris: You wound my pride with such accusations.
Aveline: But you were going to ask.
Fenris: Eventually. :bandit:
Aveline: (Laughs) I'll look at the roster and see what I can do.

Do you all think Fenris would call Hawke "amatus," as Dorian does with his guy? He does swear in Tevene, after all... lol. I can't really recall that he uses any sort of endearment at all, but they're not really together for very long in terms of game time and the structure of the cinematics doesn't really allow for him starting to use one.

I can not really imagine. Fenris never say that "love" (or probably very rare – nowhere to be seen in game, but I can not be completely exlude, because not all happens before our eyes). If he want to say to Hawke: "I love you", he probably will not use the tevene for it. But if Fenris' native language the tevene (I don't know what his native language), then he not only swear in tevene, I think.

I do not like so much, that the fandom is used frequently this, Fenris certainly not.

I could see it slipping out in the heat of the moment, but I don't see him using it in the same way that Dorian uses "amatus" (that is, frequently). Or how Bull uses kadan, Zevran uses amor, Sera uses honey tongue/tadwinks/teetness, etc. Like, some couples use pet names all the time, calling each other baby, and while I can definitely see my Hawke using sweetheart or love to refer to Fenris...

...I feel like, to Fenris, "Hawke" is enough. "Hawke" says it all. He says it with such fondness (and exasperation ) by the end of the game that your surname almost feels like an endearment in and of itself. Gaider wrote them both, and I feel like if he wanted Fenris to use amatus, he would have.

Keep in mind these are just my thoughts.

Here is a person who REALLY hates the idea. I wouldn't go nearly that far, but to each their own. I just like the idea that he likes saying Hawke's name more, lol.
