Ha. I assume no-one much cares, but this has been bugging me and playing on my mind. I was sure I'd heard the name Fenris before in a videogame, esp an RPG.
<gently snipped>
OK. I'm assuming that this is co-incidence. Writers, if you are referencing Fenrus, that would be AMAZING.
Yes, it would be!
My very first thought, was of Fenrir, or more closely
Fenrisúlfr which in old Norse meant "Fenris wolf". According to the mythology relevant to the tale, Fenrir was a wolf, the monster of the river Ván, but also supposed to be the son of Loki (the trickster and apparently crappy father, sorry Loki) . Loki actually had three sons and is said to have beaten them.A Norse saying when the fire crackles is: Loki is beating his children (one of whom was Fenrir), and the skin of the milk was thrown into the fire as a dole. The gods also, according to Norse myth, considered Fenrir a threat, too powerful and so had him bound. Beaten and bound. Poor Fenris (err Fenrir) Of course, Loki too ended up bound in the underworld I think...
Anyway, I didn't read through every page here before work (and before first coffee!!!!!

), but that was my first thought when I heard the name. (But admittedly I have a thing for myth so it would always be the first thing to come to mind. ) Plus, the names are cool and I used to have a thing for Freyja whose brother Freyr (hotty, phallic fertility god) rode around on a dwarven made boar named Gullinbursti and was given Alfheimr, the realm of the Elves, by the gods when he started to cut his first tooth (I think I got a dollar in quarters! hmmph!)

Of course, he also had a foldable boat that always had good wind and he could fold up and carry in a little pack when he didn't need it. Those phallic gods had all the luck...well, sorta. Usually they died poorly.
((Note: Tolkien fans may recognise some of the myth of Alfheimr.... he anglicized
Álfheim as
Elvenhome, or Eldamar.
Sorry modern mmorpg elf lore people, fair and dark elves have been around a loooong time

))
Ok, need coffee, then may read this thread with that. Now I am intrigued.
