Fenris: I see.

Varric: What? They don't have jokes where you come from? And here I thought I was being charming.

Fenris: No, I've just heard it before. My master told it to his guests once, while using me as a footstool.

Varric: I, uh... he did? Really?

Fenris: No, not really.

Carver: Ha! Burn! He got you that time, Varric!

Oh dear. That last line makes Carver sound like one of the jocky cool kids that I used to loathe in high school. ...I wonder how close these imaginary character conversations are for the character's personalities.

I have a feeling Fenris is going to be a bit dry like Valygar.

I can't imagine given the things he went through for him to be the happy go lucky type.

Would be kinda scary if he was.

Not very. I don't think Carver would ever say "Burn!", for example.

Well you have to remember this was before the time "Burn" was doucheified so I certainly hope nobody is going around yelling that as an insult...unless of course their a pyrokentic mage or some otherkin then that's completely acceptable to yell in battle..or while their actually you know burning someone

Wait, you mean we won't get to hear the characters say things like "dude" and "sup?" all the time? Shame.

I know right? But who knows what those pesky creators will do. 'Awesome' got thrown around quite a few times in Origins

*Scratch that awesome is actually an old word

Irish, Scottish, and British guys are a turn on.

Because I saw someone else in another thread talk about "Ireland, Scotland, and Britain" (such an odd way to list/group them, in my mind); Northern Irish and Scottish guys are British. Northern Ireland and Scotland are part of Britain. Americans sometimes seem to use "British" and "Britain" when they mean "English/England". Wales also seems to be routinely forgotten. xD There isn't really such a thing as one "British accent". :'D

On the subject of prompts (I think this is a great idea!),

- I can see Fenris and Anders discussing escape? So Anders and Fenris discuss escape. :)

Haha  I thought it was ignored.

I wish we could update the OP...i am sure many people miss all the art piccies because my post is so low on the first page...Maybe we could ask Chris to copy-paste my post code? Or to let us have another topic?

PS: I have an idea for an art piccie! :wizard:How bout young Fenris in a corner, all alone and crying? After he has been taken away from his mother and thrown into a chamber next to the laboratory.

Ha. I assume no-one much cares, but this has been bugging me and playing on my mind. I was sure I'd heard the name Fenris before in a videogame, esp an RPG. This is copied from wikipedia's article titled "List of Quest for Glory Characters".

"Fenrus or Fenris is the rat familiar of the Wizard Erasmus in the Quest for Glory universe. He is a known member of RABID (Rodents Against Boring Idiosyncratic Discrimination). Being the familiar to such a powerful wizard, Fenrus himself possesses formidable magical prowess (he often jokes that Erasmus is really his Familiar)."

OK. I'm assuming that this is co-incidence. Writers, if you are referencing Fenrus, that would be AMAZING.

Wow. This afternoon I was really annoyed with this forum for being so picky and wanted to leave forever. Then I was researching QFG for a totally unrelated reason and just HAD to come back and put this in the Fenris thread.

Then you posted this, Russalka, and now I want to stay forever. (My husband is Bulgarian and russalkas have actually been dinner conversation on more than one occasion, over the years.)

It's either a sign to continue my unhealthy relationship with the DAII forum or throw my PC out the window.

One way or another, Fenris is now my favourite follower.

K, srsly guize. If you want to talk about deeper aspects of Fenris' character, nobody's stopping you. Quite the opposite, in fact. I haven't seen a character thread on these boards (or any other, for that matter) that didn't 'degenerate' into posts about art work and prompts, but you can still encourage coversation about the character by posting it. I've done it before in the Alistair thread, which is one of the most picture/screenshot intensive threads, as far as I can tell, and have seen others do it too.

Besides, while it says 'Fenris Discussion', it's still, at least in part, a fan thread, since it's the only thread about all things Fenris is general that we're allowed to have. All fan threads go through stages of artwork, discussion and craziness, and fans are going to post when they find someone who took the time to draw a picture of one of their favourite characters.

What
do you think Fenris' friendship path would be like? From what you know
about Fenris, do you envision him as someone who doesn't "get"
humor?

My completely imagined personality for him has him being sort of wary of a close friendship in the beginning, but loyal in the quiet way that Zev was. (Like his default tactics to attack anyone who attacked the Warden). I think he would 'get' humour, and warm up to it after a while since it's something he probably didn't have with the magister. As time went on, he might talk a little about his experiences, but never go into real detail or allow that conversation to go on too long. I think, eventually, he and Hawke could have a very close bond - romantic or not - since it's (probably) the first real relationship he's had since then.

And if you got a chance to betray him in-game? He'd be crushed inside and try to kill you.

Just my impression, of course

Yes, it would be!

My very first thought, was of Fenrir, or more closely Fenrisúlfr which in old Norse meant "Fenris wolf".    According to the mythology relevant to the tale, Fenrir was a wolf, the monster of the river  Ván, but also supposed to be the son of Loki (the trickster and apparently crappy father, sorry Loki) .  Loki actually had three sons and is said to have beaten them.A Norse saying when the fire crackles is: Loki is beating his children (one of whom was Fenrir), and the skin of the milk was thrown into the fire as a dole.  The gods also, according to Norse myth, considered Fenrir a threat, too powerful and so had him bound.  Beaten and bound.  Poor Fenris (err Fenrir)  Of course, Loki too ended up bound in the underworld I think...

Anyway, I didn't read through every page here before work (and before first coffee!!!!!  :pinched:), but that was my first thought when I heard the name.  (But admittedly I have a thing for myth so it would always be the first thing to come to mind. ) Plus, the names are cool and I used to have a thing for Freyja whose brother Freyr (hotty, phallic fertility god) rode around on a dwarven made boar named Gullinbursti and was given Alfheimr, the realm of the Elves, by the gods when he started to cut his first tooth (I think I got a dollar in quarters! hmmph!) :)  Of course, he also had a foldable boat that always had good wind and he could fold up and carry in a little pack when he didn't need it. Those phallic gods had all the luck...well, sorta.  Usually they died poorly.

((Note:  Tolkien fans may recognise some of the myth of Alfheimr....  he anglicized Álfheim as Elvenhome, or Eldamar.  :)

Sorry modern mmorpg elf lore people, fair and dark elves have been around a loooong time :P  ))

Ok, need coffee, then may read this thread with that.  Now I am intrigued. :)

Don't forget that Freyr was also the ancestor of the Swedish royal house of Yngling and, according to some myths, all Swedish people (Alfheimr was an actual geographical area in western Sweden).
... and that is why the Swedish people is so good looking. We're descended from elves.

Seriously though, the character looks cool. And 226 pages thus far show pretty well that the writers know darn-well what a good percentage of their vocal fan-base want to see :)

This this and THIS, seriously what is this higher than thou additude here? And this jumping on the bandwagon to dismiss the thread, nvm that the friggin discussion already started off with fangirlish behavior and artwork, like I already told Dave all of the serious topics have been covered  and exhausted  to death at this point. I mean how many times are we gonna talk about Fenris's potential voice, his not so painful markings, speculating his connections with the other party members, whether he'll be a love interest (gay/straight or otherwise) or not, or how his name means he's a friggin werewolf or something. Granted like  Poison said nobody is stopping anyone from having a "serious discussion"  but all we've got is a blurb of information about the guy.  How much more speculating can we do here?

Like lets be real for a second it's almost like your not allowed to casually kid around or have fun on this thread without someone coming around acting like your some deluded scary fangirl just because your not talking about the same things that have already been discussed ad nauseam. If you want to contribute to the Fenris thread  then by all means do so, but don't assert yourself above everyone else or act like you can't post here because of "the scary fangirls"  who are really just trying to have fun and keep themselves occupied until we get more information and get closer to launch. Yeesh people, such stiff upper lips around here chill out.

Just ignore. If you attack posts like that, things can degenerate very quickly. A quick PM is better than a frustrating post.

If you want me to view something you say srsly, that's not the best opener.

If you want to talk about deeper aspects of Fenris' character, nobody's stopping you.

Nor is anything stopping you from being as frivolous and fluffy as your heart desires. In fact, the vast majority of people on this thread will happily join you. That one person feels differently and another is sympathetic shouldn't bother you if you're content with what you're doing.
