I object to this statement. I look nothing like an elf.

Imo Nordic people resemble elves...you are so pale and have something mystical going on. Not to mention the blue eyes and blond hair. <3

K, srsly guize.

If you want me to view something you say srsly, that's not the best opener.

If you want to talk about deeper aspects of Fenris' character, nobody's stopping you.

Nor is anything stopping you from being as frivolous and fluffy as your heart desires. In fact, the vast majority of people on this thread will happily join you. That one person feels differently and another is sympathetic shouldn't bother you if you're content with what you're doing.

trickybunny wrote...

This this and THIS, seriously what is this higher than thou additude here? And this jumping on the bandwagon to dismiss the thread, nvm that the friggin discussion already started off with fangirlish behavior and artwork, like I already told Dave all of the serious topics have been covered  and exhausted  to death at this point. I mean how many times are we gonna talk about Fenris's potential voice, his not so painful markings, speculating his connections with the other party members, whether he'll be a love interest (gay/straight or otherwise) or not, or how his name means he's a friggin werewolf or something. Granted like  Poison said nobody is stopping anyone from having a "serious discussion"  but all we've got is a blurb of information about the guy.  How much more speculating can we do here?

Like lets be real for a second it's almost like your not allowed to casually kid around or have fun on this thread without someone coming around acting like your some deluded scary fangirl just because your not talking about the same things that have already been discussed ad nauseam. If you want to contribute to the Fenris thread  then by all means do so, but don't assert yourself above everyone else or act like you can't post here because of "the scary fangirls"  who are really just trying to have fun and keep themselves occupied until we get more information and get closer to launch. Yeesh people, such stiff upper lips around here chill out.

Oh dear. Someone said something more than 'squee!' and '*nosebleed*' Time to rage. How dare they post on your Fengirl thread?

Nowhere in that did I declare this my Fengirl thread, nor am I raging. I'm actually just trying to tell the likes of you and others who think they can't have a serious discussion here that you can without being a douche.

You could look like a particular elf if you bleached your hair and got blacklight tattoos.

I agree with what you said on your post trickbunny but i also think you should have been a little more diplomatic...

What makes me mad is that nobody comes in the Isabela/Varric thread to say why are you talking about that, why are you drawing that...Everyone is free to draw the characters the way they want, shirtless, with a beanie, or with a clown nose...and the other ones shouldn't really feel offended or something like that, it's ART. The ancient greeks had naked statues all over the place.

We had serious convos about his voice actor, his past, relationship with the other chars/Hawke and so on. How many times could we bring that up and speculate? Now we are at the point of imagining how he would be in game thanks to the snippets Ser Gaider threw us. And we are drawing things to make time go by quicker.

I originally had a really nasty reply for someone as I was going through and catching up. I read this (even though it was for tricky) and realized I should just trash it and not feed the (temporary) troll. :D

I, personally, wasn't pissed off at you. I was pissed off at the people that took that comment and then went completely out of hand, making nasty comments. If there was any dislike for you at that moment, it was because that you gave the fuel to a very nasty fire. I felt really bad for laughing at it after people made these comments and took your one, crazy, rabid fangirl statement that was intended to be funny into madness.

I used memespeak because I didn't want you to view it too seriously. Ranting/raging/making drama was the last thing on my mind when I posted.

I don't want a thread that's made up of solely frivolity and fluffiness either, and it doesn't bother me if anyone felt differently. I just think that kind of thing is to be expected, especially with the lack of information Fenris has compared to other characters across the boards. What irked me was the thought that fluffiness and discussion couldn't co-exist.

Back to Fenris, since he has an aversion to people touching him, do you think that you could have the option to hug him or give him a reassuring shoulder pat or the like, and if your approval isn't high he will back away or stop you, while if high enough he will tolerate it or even initiate some such gesture in a conversation? I have a friend that hates physical contact, and I remember the day I knew she considered me a good friend because she usually will stop you or back away if you try one of the above mentioned things, but that day I was upset about something and she initiated a hug. It's pretty cool that because of her attitude towards contact that simple gesture meant a lot when most now don't even think twice about it.

Speaking of fluff, here is my favourite fluffy quote from Peter Gethers which does a good job of summing up how I feel about the Fenris Thread:

"Life is basically a sad thing, with an even sadder ending, so anything that brightens up a moment along the way is okay. Especially if it's funny."

It probably wasn't intended that way, but it came off like that with Dave's 'degenerated into nothing but half-naked art/it was fun while it lasted' comment, implying that the thread had reached its discussion quota and would only feature silliness and art. Which is probably why some people took offence to it.

*noncommital shrug*

@Ankuu - thanks. :) Fenris is fun to practice hair-shading techniques on.

Edit -

I think little things like that could play out
interestingly in-game. Like I mentioned earlier, he might place value in
someone who has a good sense of humour, since humour is something he
probably wasn't exposed to for a long time. It's the same thing with
little things we take for granted, like enjoying a really good meal or
being able to leave the house whenever we want. Kind of like one of
Anders' lines in Awakening  - he made a comment along the lines of how
great it felt to just walk around a city after being stuck in the Circle
Tower/on the run from Templars.

@ankuu: Yeah I guess once again my voice translates to "raeg" when I type, the internet unfortunately hardens you to a zero tolerance mindset when you have people trying to derail or goad you into a fight with them. It's unfortunate that characters that cater to your average female get all these folks sippin haterade and drive them to go on the attack just for having fun. Kinda sad really.

@Rose: I'll just send you a PM about how I feel about this, though for the record there was nothing crazy or rabid about what I said, it was actually pretty vague like I've repeated a thousands times now it was just a joke. I'm sorry you and a few others can't get that sense of humor, or do but feel bad once Gaider pretends to be grossed out.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate that offense being aimed at me.

Dave is a nice guy. He's been in the Fenris and Varric threads since the beginning. If he doesn't enjoy himself here, I think that's unfortunate. I assumed that, like myself, others might try to make him feel a bit better or at least say 'sorry to see you go.' I am sure we've all had times when, for whatever reason, we've no longer connected with a group we had fun in.

Personally, I've enjoyed interacting with him here. I thought a hug might be better than a kick in the *** for not liking the thread anymore.

Yeah, that was a good Anders conversation. Wonder if it will be reflected in his gifts, or if he will remark on the group, and how it is nice to travel even with those he doesn't get along with, and be able to feel a degree of safety and community. I really hope they expand on the little things like this with him. It will give his character more depth. That being said, they tend to do a great job with characters regardless of the direction they take them. I don't like Zev all that much, but I can't say he wasn't a well developed character, or that his dialogue wasn't interesting.

Alrighty, I have the prompts divided up (three options per Thursday) so all that's left is one question, do we want to give them out on Thursday and have all week (IE until next Thursday) (in which case I'll try for 12am my time which is GMT - 3 standard time) OR, I could post on Wed. (so, today) and have them all due Thursday. Any preferences?

What do you think Fenris' friendship path would be like? From what you know about Fenris, do you envision him as someone who doesn't "get" humor?

I have intense conflict aversion issues, so I'm hoping he's not going to be a rival. I sort think he'll be hesitant to trust and quick to assume, but that the more you get to know him the more he'll mellow out.

And as for humour, I hope it's ambiguous and he replies to everything in deadpan so that no one is ever quite sure whether he gets the joke/sarcasm or if he's being sarcastic himself.

Eh? My earlier comment wasn't intended to offend (like I said, the last thing I want is forum drama) and I apologize if it came off that way.

As for Dave, I know he's a nice guy - I remember thinking that when I saw some of his posts way back when I first joined here. That's why I said his comment probably wasn't intended to be directly insulting to the Fenris thread and its contributors. That is how at least a few people interpreted it however, which is probably why defensive mode automatically came up instead of sympathy. Either way, it is unfortunate that anybody would become disillusioned with a thread, especially a notable forum contributor.

@tank - thanks! I wasn't sure if it could be posted here, side-boob and all.

@Dunedien - I agree, I've always appreciated the little things in writing, especially with Bioware's characters. They're really good at adding unique little details to their writing, I'm sure they won't disappoint us in DA2. :)

@Tricky - definitely, as long as I remember. ^_^

In terms of prompts, I would suggest Release on thurs, then people can post all week, then the next thurs a new one comes out. (So your first scenario) That way if someone doesn't come in until friday they still have a chance to participate. And some people may take more than a day to create their work.

And I would love if Fen had purley sarcastic humor ^^

@Posion: Do I have to harass you on DA to remind you? lol Don't make me do it. I would really like this prompt thing to go smoothly honestly, that's part of the reason I even joined here in the first place, to pick people's brains and see others artists come together and have a good time. Aimo seems to get quite a few inspirations from the Varric thread so half the time I'm like why can't the Fenris thread be like that? Who wants to be bothered with all this silly whack *** drama?
