Wow, you guys have due dates? I thought you were just going to have a week full of prompts and simply, at various times during the week, post something along the lines of the prompt?
Would love that!!!Ninjacat513 wrote...

I realized today that Fenris shares a number of attributes with Geralt of Rivia.
- White hair
- Two-handed swordsman
- Had magical experiments done on him
- 'Stoic' and 'brooding'
- Amnesia
- Name derived from 'wolf'
I wonder if that's deliberate.

Of course it is deliberate! David Gaider just ran out of imagination and thought "Hmmm...let me take Geralt and Biowareize him!"

Of course, if you remove the "name derived from 'wolf'" part, then you've got something of a stock character in fantasy and anime. Especially if you change "amnesia" to "amnesia or altered memories".

Do you think Fenris was influenced by anime? I haven't seen many of them. I read fantasy but haven't seen much of the above.
What characters are you referring to?

i think he's more influenced by comics actually, namely wolverine's.
i can see it now:
fenris: i'm very good at what i do, and what i do isn't very nice
fenris battlecry: want a piece of me? well come and get it bub.

That's possible, in a certain degree. Lots of anime characters have amnesia, white hair and use two handed swords. I'd like to point that white-haired characters, if not the protagonist, are usually "the pretty boy".
*go back to Varric's thread*

I bet Fenris was at one point just a
normal slave purchased by the Magister at some point in his life. For a
time the Magister used Fen for his intended purpose (a servant/worker)
until he started to experiment with lyrium. Those brands had to do
something to Fenris and allowed him to escape.
Also until I see otherwise I have this guy pictured as the Magister in my head:

Nevermind about killing the poor sod, I'll need a slave to serve my every whim. Oh the possibilities.

You know what? I had another acid response for you guys but i will restrain myself. Tank is right, we shouldn't cause drama here.
What i really really want tho is for Varric And Fenris to be friends in game and make all the Varric fans that come in here and throw all sorts of "interesting" ideas feel bad. Cause they can be friends and we can't.

This.
I really would've hoped that so far 'removed' from the Final Fantasy/Anime world as Bioware tends to be, that people would lay off the Sephiroth/misc. other anime comparisons. It's not even funny in the JRPG world anymore. It really isn't amusing here. At best it makes the people using it come off somewhat prejudiced and elitist. Two things that drive me up the wall. (MMO player = knee-jerk reaction to stab any elitists I come across in the eye with toothpicks.)
White-haired and/or broody characters have been around quite a while. Good ol' Sephy was not the first. He will not be the last. Oh, and yeah, there is the whole psychotic, god-complex, alien-DNA-imbued bit about Sephiroth (and his various 'Remnants' as someone brought them up, too) that very likely sets him/them *far* apart from Fenris. Unless he suddenly sticks a knife in Hawke's back or something, I suppose. And summons some massive hulk of rock to destroy all of Thedas.
If any 'white haired anime pretty boy' rises to mind looking at Fenris for me, it's Tsume from Wolf's Rain. He was broody and gruff, and I rather liked him. But the resemblance is superficial, at best, especially with how little we know of Fenris. Hardly enough for me to care, or swear to the heavens that anime/JRPGs are 'infiltrating' Bioware's style.
Since I never got to play NWN1, and missed out on Valen (much to my dismay), I look forward to seeing the general idea explored again through Fenris.
