Speaking of time frames, I probably missed it somewhere but when is ours due?

I think it's a week. Due next Thursday when the new prompt is out.

Wow, you guys have due dates? I thought you were just going to have a week full of prompts and simply, at various times during the week, post something along the lines of the prompt?

lol A week isn't so bad, I guess if you give people dates it'll instill discipline? Reminds people to get done on time? I dunno, I am done with my sketch for "The Spirits" though and was wondering if I was gonna have enough time to color it, a week is doable.

Yes, that's what we will do in a week. Then when Thursday comes we have different topic to work on.

Humph...perhaps we should pick some good one on Thursday and announce it on Friday?

Who'll announce the prompts, some chosen people or are we just going to announce our own ideas when it's prompt-announcement-day in our respective timezones?

I realized today that Fenris shares a number of attributes with Geralt of Rivia.

  • White hair
  • Two-handed swordsman
  • Had magical experiments done on him
  • 'Stoic' and 'brooding'
  • Amnesia
  • Name derived from 'wolf'

I wonder if that's deliberate.

Of course it is deliberate! David Gaider just ran out of imagination and thought "Hmmm...let me take Geralt and Biowareize him!".

I don't want to offend you but this TW vs DA rivalry has gone on for too long. And comparisons between Fenris and Jack, Fenris and Geralt, Fenris and Sephiroth, Fenris and watever are getting boring. Ser Gaider said that he is not like Zevran or any other character, but he is loosely based on Valen Shadowbreath. He wanted to create a stoic character and to explore more than he did with Valen.

Of course, if you remove the "name derived from 'wolf'" part, then you've got something of a stock character in fantasy and anime. Especially if you change "amnesia" to "amnesia or altered memories".

Do you think Fenris was influenced by anime? I haven't seen many of them. I read fantasy but haven't seen much of the above.

What characters are you referring to?

i think he's more influenced by comics actually, namely wolverine's.

i can see it now:

fenris: i'm very good at what i do, and what i do isn't very nice

fenris battlecry: want a piece of me? well come and get it bub.

That's possible, in a certain degree. Lots of anime characters have amnesia, white hair and use two handed swords. I'd like to point that white-haired characters, if not the protagonist, are usually "the pretty boy".

So, you think Fenris is based on some anime 'pretty-boy' trope?

What i really really want is for Varric And Fenris to be friends in game and make all the Varric fans that come in here and throw all sorts of "interesting" ideas feel bad. Cause they can be friends and we can't.

I bet Fenris was at one point just a
normal slave purchased by the Magister at some point in his life. For a
time the Magister used Fen for his intended purpose (a servant/worker)
until he started to experiment with lyrium. Those brands had to do
something to Fenris and allowed him to escape.

Also until I see otherwise I have this guy pictured as the Magister in my head:

It's probable Fen was originally just some slave, possibly with the addition he might have been stronger then others, or perhaps he had once had a rebelious streak and then sort of given up and was loyal to the magister. It could've been he was always blindly loyal to the magister (I highly doubt it, but it's BioWare. You never know what you're gonna get) and possibly chose to even let this happen to him until the memory loss.

And nice magister-- can't help but hope it's a ugly old guy.

Fixed for my hopes. We agree on a lot of stuff here, Ninjacat! (Edit: Oopsies. You didn't see my mistake.)

The only thing is, I can't think of a male (Irish/can pull off Irish accent) VA that's done a major RPG off the top of my head. I would ask Ser Gaider if the guy voicing Fenris has done a BioWare game before, but that would give away possibly too much if he responded to it, so we'd never get an answer to that.

Sorry, I can't think of any other way to respond to this other then:

LOL, whut?

=Edit=

@Everyone that has already responded to the prompt-- You guys are awesome, and the responses are wonderful. I love the "Faith" spirit picture Margaret, and I have stolen it and it is currently one of a few pictures I have cycling as my desktop background.

Im just playing with the whole elf-dwarf rivalry thing :)  Of course, now with Fenris, I just can't help thinking of him and other elves as the jocks of the DA Universe :)

That being said, it sounds like Darth Gaider is writing a combination of an Anime and Twilight character for Fenny (from what I've gathered about him :)

Ah. So Finnris' tattoos aid in the stealing of princesses? No wonder he teams up with Hawke. He gets to follow some gritty warrior instead of the delicate damsels he's used to pursuing.

This.

I really would've hoped that so far 'removed' from the Final Fantasy/Anime world as Bioware tends to be, that people would lay off the Sephiroth/misc. other anime comparisons. It's not even funny in the JRPG world anymore. It really isn't amusing here. At best it makes the people using it come off somewhat prejudiced and elitist. Two things that drive me up the wall. (MMO player = knee-jerk reaction to stab any elitists I come across in the eye with toothpicks.)

White-haired and/or broody characters have been around quite a while. Good ol' Sephy was not the first. He will not be the last. Oh, and yeah, there is the whole psychotic, god-complex, alien-DNA-imbued bit about Sephiroth (and his various 'Remnants' as someone brought them up, too) that very likely sets him/them *far* apart from Fenris. Unless he suddenly sticks a knife in Hawke's back or something, I suppose. And summons some massive hulk of rock to destroy all of Thedas.

If any 'white haired anime pretty boy' rises to mind looking at Fenris for me, it's Tsume from Wolf's Rain. He was broody and gruff, and I rather liked him. But the resemblance is superficial, at best, especially with how little we know of Fenris. Hardly enough for me to care, or swear to the heavens that anime/JRPGs are 'infiltrating' Bioware's style.

Since I never got to play NWN1, and missed out on Valen (much to my dismay), I look forward to seeing the general idea explored again through Fenris.

Oh this. This a million times over, just from a JRPG player instead of MMO player. I always have to bite my tongue on the BSN lest I get accused of being a weeabo/crazy brainless anime fangurl, but the point remains, I've played many JRPGs in my life and Fenris' white hair is a really, really superficial resemblance to Sephiroth (I mean, Sephiroth had awesome hair, how many of you are willing to shill out that much money for shampoo in a year).

On to nicer, fluffier and happier things, those prompt fills ARE AWESOME.

Dr. Doctor's, yours made my little heart clench, I love the idea of Fenris wandering into the alienage, and I like the little note about how Fenris finds it beautiful when many see it as a dump. Perspective is everything.

And Margret, that picture and explination are lovely, I wanted to pat their little heads.

Arayerie: kitty! I'm a cat person so that's sweet, thanks for drawing it and thanks to ankuu for posting.
