Well, I've played JRPGs and MMOs. It's just that MMOs (namely FF11) gave me a very low tolerance threshold for elitism of any kind. Listened to it enough in that game about gear and set ups and what classes were 'lollame'.



Having people start tossing around equivalent commentary on a character we know next to nothing about is equally agitating as someone going "Wut? No Scorpion Harness? *kick from party*" True story. Happened to a friend of mine. Those things used to be quite pricey and getting the gil up was a month long ordeal if you weren't lucky.



We know very little about Fenris. A few pictures, a blurb, and some quotes. Why people are jumping to negative conclusions about him so quickly baffles me. I said this earlier in this thread: I jumped to conclusions about Alistair based on just his little video and the snippet things when he was unveiled in Origins. I thought he'd be too jokey for me to tolerate. Turns out I was dead wrong, and I adore him. The exact same thing could happen with Fenris for any one of them going on about anime and JRPGs.

EDIT*  While I'm here who ever is in charge of changing the artwork on page one? Can you change all the ones that say Heavy-Inamorato to trickybunnie? That's gonna be my new fantasy/Dragon Age account anyway,  so when I go posting more stuff someone won't come running to me saying some chick stole your art on the BSN!

Hey guys I have an incredibly original idea! Lets all go troll the varric thread! Wait... trolling another character's thread? Nevermind they thought of it first.  
Seriously guys grow up. I obviously have no say over what other people post, but if you are just here to post "LOL Fernis thread sux, goin bak 2 Varik thred." Really? This is a discussion thread about Fenris so you have every right to voice your opinion, but if you aren't going to put your thoughts together into a complete post (which several people HAVE done, and this post isn't about those comments) then please think about what you are about to say. I personal find an extremely short and extremely hairy little man revolting, but out of respect for the Varric fans I'm not going to go post "lul I Elfs, Varric = Ew" all over their thread. (By the way this isn't a rage post and I am just putting my thoughts down in the politest way possible. Cause this is a discussion board where people discuss things.) It's not like Varric is a completely original idea either.

A discussion does involve both points of view and if there wasn't any negative Fenris posts then we would be missing out on some very good topics. So this isn't a hate post to anyone who has/will post in this way, but if all you are going to say is "Varric forever, Fenris sucks" without any hint of actual thought as to why then please keep it in the Varric thread.

Great work on the prompts so far. Hopefully I can get something together. Keep up the good work

Fenris: ... What are you talking about?

Zevran: Now now now, enough frivolous questions. Answer me this. Now. You have many lyrium addled markings that accentuate you finely. The curves across the forms of your biceps, the long thin vines over your chin that draw down the cool, statuesque figure of your fine neck.

Fenris: ... Do you have a point?

Zevran: ... I mean to say. Just where do they.... go?

Fenris: I fail to understand.

Zevran: Truly you are not so blind to the question.

Fenris: They brand my body.

I don't remember saying anything about Sephiroth or JRPGs, I'm not some crazed anime fan, and I'm certainly not calling Fenris "wapanese" or anything like that. I was merely pointing out that there have been other characters than Geralt that shared many, if not all, of the traits that Maria Caliban listed.

If anything, I was trying to say that I DON'T think Fenris is a rip-off. If he is, then Geralt is too.

Yeah, but... this works both ways.  Honestly I peek in here and see "prompt fills" and it makes me  when we know next to nothing about this character.  In fact I decided early on I should stay away from the fan threads because the rampant giddiness was dampening my actual interest in the character.

Just sayin'.  Who am I to kill another person's squee buzz.

I do get an anime impression from the characters, but it's more because of the art style being more cartoony than any one feature.  White or silver hair, that's pretty much a staple of fantasy so DA's just catching up.

I can't wait to see what Fenris is actually like in the game. For all we know, half of us could end up hating his personality. Because we know so little we are all just filling in his empty shell with what we hope he is. It will be interesting to see if we are anywhere close. I have no doubt there will be dissapointment and there will be suprises when we find out more.

I completley understand your "stay away from the fan threads" perspective, for at the moment this thread is about the "fan's Fenris" and not "David Gaider's Fenris". We've pretty much written this character ourselves with a basic guideline from the actual writer. I don't blame you in a way. I'm a little worried about how he will actually turn out. A little unrelated, but I thought I would love Jack from ME2 when I first heard of her but in the actual game I just wanted to punch her in the face every time she opened her mouth.

Just responding a bit because it feels like this has been directed to me (if not, I guess it's just my paranoia taking over and Im sorry for bringing this back to the top).  Now, I just want to make it clear that Im not doing any trolling at all.  If I were, I would have taking a lot more time to come up with something more effective than "Varric Forever!"   Any posts that I do make comparing V and Fenny are entirely meant good naturedly and Im trying to play in with the old trope of the Elven-Dwarven rivalry thing...There are times when I pop into the thread and I do voice my opinion on some of the ideas -- for instance, I do think that some of the "wants" for Fenny seem to be heavily twilight influenced.  Im interested in seeing how things turn out with this character and a large large large part of me wants the characterization (particularly the interaction between a certain tall, skinny mostly hairless man with the stylized hair and the extremely short, extremely hairy little man) that Dr. Dr. has been posting to be the characterization of Fenny.  As I said a while back, Fenny just doesn't have that bro vibe coming out (if he did, that would be great and I would keep him and V along just to see what sort of Party Banter goes on), so he doesn't initially appeal to me, but if he has a dry sense of humour and can effectively play the straight man to V -- or even have V play the straight man to Fenny (think more Abbott and Costello than Laurel and Hardy - while I really like slapstick, I think that the verbal dynamics of A & C would work better), then I would be more than happy...

Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition!  Im really interested in seeing the responses to the prompts...As for the jock thing, I started it in this thread with the thought that Elves get all the girls compared to the other fantasy races.

Somewhat on the same topic, is anyone around here good at drawing weapons?  I'd love to see a good fan-pic of Bianca

But we do have Christmas art with Fen! And even New Year's Eve...





What we do lack is him+FHawke art.

I felt a little bit weird when i went on the Varric thread to read BSB's post too. And someone else said that she prefers the Varric thread because it has a different "vibe" than Fenris'.

I've also mentioned it on this thread before, but I just want to say that I really appreciate how they've inverted the traditional weapon styles of Fenny and V -- Fenny being more up close and personal with his 2 handed weapon (rather than ranged w/bow) and V being more reach out and touch someone with Bianca (rather than up close and personal w/axe)
