I wonder about that, too. The only thing I can think of is maybe it keeps pressure from fans off of those actors, who may not be as tight-lipped as BioWare employees? But that seems pretty weak. I'm sure an NDA would be enough to satisfy those concerns.

Actually, that seems a bit valid. I mean, I can think of quite a few reveals that seem to come from fans pestering actors, almost always unintentional. For all we know, we weren't supposed to find out Steve Valentine was doing voice over work for Alistair in DAII--the devs hadn't confirmed his appearance, after all.

He hinted it himself in his twitter account.

He's the only VA didn't even hide his working schedule in 2011.  I saw that before BioWare released any info about DAII

You know, part of me doesn't know why the devs withhold VA information. It doesn't really give that much away (other then what they sound like, of course) does it?

It depends on how famous the VA is. ME 2 actually had a little video about how it had a bunch of well-known VAs.

Mmkay, can we just stop manufacturing rivalries between this thread and the others? It's completely ridiculous. And we know more about Varric because he's been announced for months, not because of imagined dev favoritism.

Seriously things like this are why I said I prefer the Varric thread's atmosphere.

I like Varric. I like Fen. I like Sebastian, and all the other characters we know about. I don't feel I'm on any side of a fandom war and I'd like to post in any or all of their threads but drama completely turns me off.

But to be frank with you I've seen more "manfacturing of rvialry " in the Varric thread. First when BSB said she didn't want the elf jocks taking over Varric thursdays , and then someone else talking about how Varric fans will have to contend with  Fenris fans, and Sebastian fans.  Granted I'm sure that was all in jest and not to be taken seriously but to anyone who has no sense of humor  it just looks like everyone over there is trying to create a compettion between the other characters. If you prefer the Varric thread that's fine but it's not like we're over here  constantly going on about how we need  to contend with other fans or anything of that nature, up until recently all we were really talking about was Fenris' past so pfft the atmosphere here is just as friendly.

Hint: the Varric thread is tongue-in-cheek. The entire thread. All of it. Do not take anything in there seriously, ever.

There is no conspiracy brewing there against other threads.

In a (perhaps misguided) effort to see this thread be more approachable, not really.

Despite this being a discussion thread, wouldn't you say there's not really a whole lot of traffic from the whole site? Just the people who decided they liked him. It's just not an easy place to come and chat.

Believe me, please, when I say this kindly and with good intentions. I'd like to talk about the character--but sometimes I wish fanboying/girling was limited to groups and not threads. It's harmless, really, but very niche and cliquey and sort of alienates other folks.

Nobody here thinks there is lol. I personally get that it's not to be taken seriously over there, but not everyone does or gets that sense of humor. (pretty sure I said that)  so it just looks weird for you to say that you prefer the Varric  thread when I've seen more examples of the drama your accusing this thread of over there . You guys get to play it for laughs but if we do it's drama? lol

Also sorry BSB I'm SORRYYYY please forgive me!

Also, being called a douche and a loser for giving another poster a hug is somewhat and saying you sympathize with them is somewhat alienating.

Hmmm...

(Fangirls break into BioWare offices while Gaider is checking script)

Fangirls: There he is! (They latch onto Fenris, their sheer numbers overwhelming the shiny elf)

Fenris: (Rips fangirl off face) Dave! HELP!

Gaider: (Not paying attention) Mmmhmmm...

(Fangirls drag Fenris out of offices. Gaider finishes checking script.)

Gaider: (Bewildered) Fenris? (Looking around office) Where did he go?

Sorry you feel that way bro, like I said the last time and  I'm sure Steam Punk said it too nobody is stopping you from talking about serious buisness, like I said in my  last post we were just alking about Fenris seriously like 2 pages ago. Also can you really limit the niche and cliqiueness to just this thread? Don't the same group of people keep the Varric thread up and about?

*sigh* Some people here obviously think there is and they've said as much in this thread. And I don't get why you and others are complaining about my stated preference for the Varric thread's atmosphere. It's a preference and therefore inherently both subjective and personal.

It's drama if it's not "played for laughs", yeah.

Gaider:  Guess Fenris decided to go out for some air.  Better be careful because it's about -20 out.

(hours pass)

Gaider:  Alright, guess we lost Fenris for this game.  This Sebastian...

(Seb Hanlon pokes his head in the writer's pit):  Yeah Dave?

Gaider:  Wrong Sebastian Seb.  Anyways, this guy seems popular, I'll give him a big sword and take away his bow and make him take Fenris' place

(an audible gasp and cries of "no!" come from a nearby closet)

(Fenris gets pushed out of closet, hair dissheveled, clothes half-torn, gasping for breath)

Fenris: Thank the maker!

Gaider: No problem dude.

I have girl parts.

Anyhow. Yes, we can, you're right. ^_^ That's why I said "cliquey". You try talking to people who are grouped together and conversing about the same things with the same likes and dislikes, and you feel a bit left out and, again, alienated. Cliques aren't necessarily a bad thing, but definitely not a welcoming thing.

Occasionally you are serious, that's true, but almost every time I step in, I don't see it. I suppose I don't feel quite the same way about the Varric thread because it doesn't say "Official Fenris Discussion" posted by a developer and instead "Varric & his chest hair" and is posted in by a fan. Still, that doesn't change my personal belief that fanboy/girling should be done mostly in a group.

We have not been stopped nor asked to stop. We will not start a second thread because we have all chances to be closed because of the presence of this one. We do have a group-- no one posts in it.

...No, I'm not saying you should be, I'm saying it would be nice if you held back a little on it. I'm not saying there should be a separate thread, either. But it's possible the only way to sort of get people to come back is for there to be another thread. Not saying that should happen, but maybe it wouldn't even matter if you did make everything srs bsns.

And I'm sure you do--I'm just saying I wish you would use it.

Back to Fenris, shall we?

Any more lovely prompts? I've seen some superb ones and they all seemed stop over the last three pages or so...
