Yeah, I knew you weren't all "BLARG I HATE EVERYTHING YOU LIKE" :P Like David brought up, it is just a way to connect to the player, and it can be overdone. But you are right, it is always nice to find out a character is interested in you while playing the game. I did that for Mass Effect. It did help the experience.

I did that in KotOR, but at this point, knowing what Bioware brings to the table, part of me kind of likes to know in advance. Not to the point that I demand the information. I am ready for it, certainly, but it isn't going to make or break my life if they don't reveal the femaleHawke LIs for a while yet. (Isabella excluded. I'm talking about the *men* femHawke can romance.)

I'm not going to cancel my preorder or any such thing if it turns out Fenris is not a LI, but it will detract somewhat from my anticipation. That is, really, the only reason I'd like to know now, so I know on what grounds I stand going into the game. I guess that's a silly thing to get bothered about, but there it is.

I must say that whoever is doing  Male Hawke's VO is now my new favorite player character voice after seeing that video.

As such:

Hawke: She fills her days making poisons...and cake. Please tell me that you didn't try the cake.

Fenris: (mouth full of cake, noticing that the party is staring at him) What? It's perfectly good cake.

You know, they should just make "Bioware: the dating sim" and start telling people if they want a romance simulator, play that game...if they want a good game that may (or may not) have romances, then play game X (be it ME or DA or whatever :) and be surprised with any and all relationships :)

In my opinion, romances don't have a lot of impact unless they occur in a context. That's why almost every action movie ever made has the hero getting the girl. Fantasy is fantasy, and romance being a part of adventure is a part of that. As I once said in an interview, we throw out many hooks on the off chance that one of them will stick and make the player care about something... rromances work for some, not for others. If you don't care about something, then we've failed. If we segregate out things to care about simply because others claim not to buy into it, then all we're really doing is reducing the number of hooks in our toolbox.

So, no, I don't think that's a good idea. Even if I could get behind the idea of doing a game where romances did take center stage. Considering the massive sales that "casual" games like the Sims get, wouldn't it be a shock to the self-proclaimed "elite RPG" demographic to find themselves taking third place behind not only the "console action" crowd but the so-called "gamer girls" as well?

I don't think any demographic can be summed up quite so neatly, but can you imagine? Perish the thought. Posted Image

Oh, don't get me wrong...I've enjoyed almost all the relationships/romances in Bioware games, so it wasn't the "anti-romance" thing that people make it out to be (or at least it wasn't intended to be).  My point, however oblique I made it, was that it's nice to be surprised at what you guys are going to come up with next with respect to interparty relationships rather than the whole "see new character, immediately wonder if we could bonk said character" thing that normally comes up.  In fact, although it's (probably) more difficult to do than normal relationships, I would love to see a greater relationship dynamic between members of the party than between individuals and the PC (a recent example, for myself, was my surprise when, playing BG2 for the first time, Minsc took Aerie as his new witch)

^ That's always going to happen whether one likes it or not. My advice? Move on and accept fans as fans.

=Edit=

Hmm... I have a random wonder now...

Can all that lyrium burn off things such as poison... or alcohol... or fat (this last is really random)?

Also: (Not completely related but it relates to my post a while ago about height)

I'm assuming that Merrill is a very small elf, and is potentially a head shorter than male
Hawke. But in the video she is "walking up" to Hawke. Literally. So she
could even be on a hill.

I think it might actually be the party that's standing on a hill, I'm not sure.

But, for those who were wondering, yes-- all elves do look different. They all have a very slender build, and their ears are more prominent. Their eyes and noses are also fairly different. Like most races, however, there's a fair amount of variation between the individuals. With any like, you'll get some looks at other elves to criticize examine. :)

@MRC: Are you suggesting Fanris was 300lbs before the branding? ;)
Lol jk. But if people can drink lyrium (lyrium potions for your party) I'm assuming that it wouldn't be that corrosive.

That's why it was just a random wonder... Although I'd never suggest Fenris was fat! But it'd be a really good way to stay fit if it worked.

I would love if he trapped Lady Hawke against him and the wall without it being all lust-ful, just his way of coping with the serious business of confessing his feelings..(I'll weep if he isn't an LI).

I think Dr. Doctor could definately write a better dialogue by a million miles that has much more meaning but...

Hawke: (Puts hand on Fenris' shoulder as he turns his back to her. He winces, but lets her keep it there) You know you can talk to me, don't you?

Fenris: You've told me. (He pulls Hawke's hand off his shoulder and begins to walk away)

Hawke: Then... please tell me what's wrong.

Fenris: Hawke... (Turns and looks at her.) It's something you don't need to worry about.

Hawke: Yet if you keep acting this way, I will.

Fenris: I can't explain it... I don't know how to explain it unless... (Places hand on wall beside Hawke, and then kisses her before quickly breaking off)

Hawke(Slightly shocked) I didn't think that--.

Fenris: Now you know.

*Crawls back into corner of lurk*

NUUUUUUUU!!! COME BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!! More dialog, preciousss. Yes, we needs it, precioussss..... *cough noises that sounds like Margaret*

So the little clip of Fenris that we got in the video gives me a little more insight to his personality. He looks angry and he looks to be standing up to Aveline, who to be honest appears to be a very formidable woman. Someone said or did something that pushed Fenris to the edge.

The Isabela romance snippet makes me happy. She sounded a bit flustered when Hawke appears to suggest that he actually cares about her rather than wanting her for just the usual reason. This sort of reinforces my theory that while she's still going to look and act like the flamboyant pirate queen she is to everyone on the outside she and Hawke have a soft spot for each other.

Merril strikes me as being DA2's equivalent to Tali. Which means that at first she's going to be a walking encyclopedia of Dalish history:

Merill: ...and that's how the Dalish ended up living in caravans.

Fenris: (deadpan) Facinating. (mouthing to Hawke) Kill me now. (Hawke shrugs her her shoulders)

Merill:
Say that's an interesting dagger you've got there Fenris, it looks like its made out of ironbark. Did you know that ironbark....(continues on speech on the nature and uses of ironbark.)

Fenris: (rolls eyes and continues walking)

3 years later:

Fenris: Merill do you ever miss those talks we had when we were walking along the streets of Kirkwall all thoses years ago?

Merill: (sighs) No, Fenris I don't

Fenris: (smiling) Remember how you used to tell us all about your life with the Dalish? That experience was truly enlightening.

Merill:
Fenris, I swear that if you keep this up, I will light you on fire.

Fenris: Sorry Merill, been there, done that.

(Merill facepalms)
